Welcome And Sports Warmup

SPEAKER_00

And welcome, welcome, welcome, everybody, to another episode of Real Talk Doc. You doing all right today?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I uh we're truly blessed to have a special guest too, brother.

SPEAKER_00

You've probably seen him on uh TV, you know, all over social media, you know, preparing some meals and and going crazy about his uh Yankees. And right now he's New York News.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, it's a pleasure to see it's moving on. Absolutely, absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, so before we break down and the next are going to the NBA finals for the first time on the leaving uh a very long time uh still. Uh yeah, yeah, so before we dive into that, you know, it's a lot of history that goes on to the next next curve. You know, when you think of the next to think of, you know, the laker would think of some of the best franchise that uh in

All-Time Knicks Starting Five

SPEAKER_00

the in the middle of the year. If you have a lot of great players that run through New York, so if you were to put together before we dive into the actual gameplay uh of the playoffs, if we could put together a start of five of all time, next players. Uh one through five, who would it be? And I'll even throw in a six-man for you two as well. Go ahead, Jeff.

SPEAKER_01

Oh okay, so I I like to do this by stand. So I I did the team. I went with the complete team, point guard, shooting guard, small forward. Um, criteria is really simple. Uh I I try not to be so biased on this. I want you to go with the history of the Knicks, what you did for the franchise, what you meant for the city, and also what you meant for the franchise after you your playing days was over. And I think I can pile the excellent list here. So for my point guard, I don't think there's an argument with this. We got to go walk Clyde Frazier. I mean, we're talking about champ 70, 73, 7 all-defensive first team, all NBA six times, four first, two second, seventh time all-star, 75 all-star game MVP jersey retired. I mean, career assist leader, it's not even an argument of who the best point guard in Knicks history is. Now, I say that with an asterisk because right now we are witnessing some great basketball. Jalen Bronson is making his way to that point guard uh guard podium right now. So as as uh what Steven A say is it's it's fluid, it's fluidity, it's fluid. This list is fluid. It all depends on how the championship goes. And like I said, two championships to the city. Um, you you gotta put him there. You gotta put Frasier there. And two shooting guards, I gotta go with my man Vernon, Earl to Pearl Monroe. I'm not that old, but I know what I know what Black Jesus did for the Knicks. I know what he tried for the Knicks. I'm talking about four-time, uh, four-time All-Star. Played on that 73 championship team, rookie of the year, all NBA, jersey retired by two different teams. This is the I'm talking about these are two cornerstones of what every Knicks player and what every Knicks fan looks up to and says, hey, these are our guys. So I I had no argument. Those were two easy picks. For my small four, it's so hard because I went between Bernard King and Mello. And the only thing that separated them was Mello played a little bit longer for the Knicks. And I think that Mello was so needed at a time because he came when we we we was really, we, we were, it was dark, gloomy time for the Knicks. So I gotta give it up to him. Scoring title, you know, 10-time NBA All-Star, uh, ninth in point, uh, scored in the NBA. Uh, I I didn't know that, you know, Mello leaves the the Olympic teams, you know, and rebounds and total point score. So that that did it for me with uh putting Mellow at the small forward spot over Bernard, even though Bernard was, I mean, a beast, but four years, a little injury plague with the rest of his career. So that's what got Mello in that spot. Um, for my power four, I don't I this was another thing that came down to really close because Oakley, I grew up watching him. I'm out of my game after Charles Oakley, the toughness, the grip, the grind. I'm talking about playing with some of those Hall of Fame big men and held his own and was kind of undersized, but was still banging there with Alonzo and Kikembe, and you know, Lajon. So he really held up. But I had to give it to Dave DeBusher because he he was the prototypical power forward. I mean, defense, rebound, um, and I mean, you gotta put him there when bringing a championship was an instrumental part of uh one of the um on the championship teams on both 70 and the 73 teams. So I had to put him there. That that brings, it means something to me. So I had to put him at power forward. And at the center spot, uh Patrick Ewing, you know what I'm saying? I had to go, my boy. You talking about just what 13 consecutive playoff appearances, two final burps, uh 86 rookie of the year, 11 all-star games, uh, seven-time R-NBA, three-time all-defensive NBA, and also a member of the 75 uh anniversary team. So Pat was there uh at the center spot with me with no problem, no issues at all. And coming off the bench as my sixth man, and like I said, this is a fluid list. I got Jalen Brunson because of the magic that he is doing right now, and he is helping me bring my son over to being a Knicks fan. My son is an NBA fan, he likes players, but my son is watching the Knicks with me. And Jalen Brunson has been instrumental on me and my son catching up with the Knicks. So, like I said, he brings this championship to New York this season. He gets a starting spot.

SPEAKER_02

That's a great, great list, man, uh, for the New York Knicks, your hometown team. I'm a little different than you. I'm a lot older than you. And I I like Earl LaPiro Monroe, and I like Clyde Frazier as my one and two. But uh at my three spot, brother, I'm I'm gonna go with uh Bernard King, man. You know, he lit up Detroit in the playoffs with 60 in the Silverdome. Bernard King is a true Knick where people forget how prolific he was, if you will, you know, Chef Yaku. And I and I love uh Mello, but I I gotta go with Bernard King. At my four, I'm going to Oakley, man. Oakley protected Ewing and those Knicks, man. You can make an argument with X-Men or Xavier McDaniel or Dave the Busher, but I'm going with Oakley at the four. And at the five, you know, I love Ewing, man, but I can't go against Willis Reed. You know that chapter two ring, the number 19 Hall of Famer. He came out and you guys won game seven when he had played on one leg and he scored the first four points. Yeah, I gotta go there, man. And I love Ewing. You know, I love him at Georgetown, you know. But I I I gotta go with uh Willis Reed, you know, at the center. So I mean, like you coming off the bench, you can't you'd be wrong if you don't pick Jalen Brunson. Although I was a big Anthony Mason guy, you know. I gotta put that in there too, but I gotta go with Bronson. So there you go, Marla, right there at Chef Yaku. I love your list, though. Yeah, good job.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. So uh yeah, so uh standing with the Knicks and

Knicks Sweep And Finals Hype

SPEAKER_00

looking at the Eastern Conference Finals. I mean, I don't know that, you know, Jeff, you can you can answer the question of this. I don't think that you thought it was gonna be a sweep in the way they were winning uh in the faction that they did. Um, but just your thoughts over on this playoff series and uh thoughts on uh the sweep going into the finals.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, I take this back to what we're starting to see in the NCAA tournament. And you're starting to see a lot of those senior and junior-led teams, whether they're uh Cinderellas or whether they're, you know, these transfer portal guys who are a little bit older, you know, things like that. And I feel like that that camaraderie, that brotherhood that the Knicks have with all those guys being from a quarter of the team play that villainopa. They they've been through the fire together, they've been on the road together, they they they they've been through the triumphs, the ebbs and flows of the season. They work so well out there on the court together. It's it's it's it's magical. It's almost like music watching them play and how they trust each other. And that only comes with spending time and knowing the guys that you're in that locker room with. And I think that's one of the things that this team, this this nucleus just, they just they they grind it through and and just shown that that that camaraderie is leading them. They've never, I mean, when they they got down there when they were down in the Atlantic, I mean, a lot of those, that that post-game, a lot of the pregame stuff was just the same. You can tell they were just like, okay, we we have some issues, but let's get back to it. You watch how they they hold each other accountable on the court. That's all a coach can ask for. He asked for extensions of himself out there on that court, and that's what each one of those guys commit to each other, and that's what they bring. Um, and and each of them have their own little leadership points. You talking about four or five guys who are all scoring double figures uh in the in the NBA in the Eastern Conference Finals. And you look back to last year where Tibbs had we we ran we ran five guys. We had no rotation last year, nothing coming off the bench. Guys retired, and we just we lost it. Uh I I think a lot of it had to do we got outplayed, but then our motors ran out. This year, we got fresh legs. I mean, from dudes coming off the bench. I mean, we we we we have so many things working, and the guys get along. It's family out there. And I think that's what's going to push them over what people see as a more talented team in OKC or with a uh more of a uh um this young firing squad that you see down there uh in San Antonio. I think both of those teams are very good, but I think what you got going on with this Knicks team and you got history on their side, and the fact that they just every time they step out on the court, they're they're making some kind of history. I see them going to this finals, and I see them just coming out and showing everybody continuing to play with a chip on your shoulder. When you're playing great ball, but people are still hating, you keep that chip on the shoulder. It's the size of a boulder. These guys got all of New York, the whole tri-state area, I mean, oh, that aren't hate. It's crazy. It's pandemonium. I'm telling you. I'm expecting to see once the NBA finals is done and we're victorious, I'm expecting to see people riding tigers, lions, and bears out of the Bronx zoo. It's gonna be crazy, and and and the city needs it. So no matter who we play, whether it's the alien in Wimby or whether it's uh my man, the flop con artist in OKC. That's right.

SPEAKER_02

Well, congratulations on that, Chef Yaku. But even you have to be

How Coaching Flipped The Switch

SPEAKER_02

amazed at the proficiency and the efficiency, if you will. You're not just beating teams, you're bludgeoning them. You're routing them, you're putting up historic numbers, a plus 271, you know, point differential. That's stunning. It seemed like you just turned on the switch after the coaching staff, including Mike Brown, you know, after game three of the Atlanta series, just turned it up and kicked the ball out of Brunson's ass. We're going to the big fellas, big cat. I'm shocked that Big Cat on a consistent basis. It wasn't consistent all year, but you haven't lost literally in a month, Chef IQ. So I'm trying to add you, man. Not only are you putting up historic numbers, I don't I don't want to hear that the Easter's weak. You still have to go out there and perform, and that's what you're doing. But Mike Brown, your take right now, uh, because I I I I criticize the move. Um I criticize buying difficult, but as you referenced the bench, the Shaman, and some of these other caps, your take on the coach's staff and the and the job they did of turning this thing around in the postseason on the fly.

SPEAKER_01

Go. Well, well, Mike, Mike Brown has always been one of the most underrated coaches for me, and I feel I feel like he's always gotten uh uh kind of a raw end of the deal, uh, both Spence and Cleveland. Um, so I feel like he he came into the series uh ready to make an example of of the Cavaliers and kind of show them like, hey, you guys made mistakes on two different occasions with me. Um I feel like he's kind of gotten a raw. And so, and then you you look at that coaching staff. When you can get in the, when you can get in the coach's play, how how are your players being coached? Are they accepting of the fire that comes with that playoff coaching? I mean, we saw that with Bronson and his pops uh in the Atlanta Hawks series. The second they got on it and they got that thing worked out, this is where we are now, 11 games later. Um and it's and it's on both ends on the court. Uh it's defensive and offensive, and them fresh legs has a lot to do with it. When you're able to can control the lead and keep a lead going, when you're sitting your stars down and those, you know what I'm saying, in those times, third quarter, beginning of the fourth quarter, you're still able to keep them legs fresh. Your team is always gonna do well on both ends of the court. I'm talking about fast break points. They just bludgeon Cleveland with the fast break. I mean, every time every time you looked up, they were sprint down. Even after made basket, they were sprinting down the court and getting and and and getting outlet passes like it was a fast break. So uh this this team, they're hitting on all cylinders. And a lot of times in sports you hear, hey, it's it's about when the team is operating and going at the right time. And I think right now the Knicks are operating and going at the right time. And we're gonna see something in this seven-game series because the West is going seven games. And I feel like it's almost gonna be like those big East time, that Big East tournament where you got four or five teams in the regular season looking great in the big East. They done beat each other so up so much in Madison Square Garden that they didn't bludgeon each other and they they one of them leak out the tournament and then they get knocked off. So I really feel like seven games, you already see gas, guys are banged up, uh limping, ankles, those little high ankle sprains, those little nagging injuries, they're gonna pile up and and we're gonna be there.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I tell you, uh and Marlon, excuse me, I'm sorry, but Chef Jackson, you played the game at a collegiate level. You know about these soft tissue injuries and all that. And the Knicks, to their credit, have stayed relatively healthy, with the exception of OJ Ann and Obi. And I want to get on him because I I want to talk about, not get on, I want to talk about him because he's a key piece when he's on uh when he's on fire. You know, and and going back to the 76ers uh, you know, series, gentlemen, you know, the 76ers and B were coming off a seven-game bashing of uh the Celtics. I thought they was red hot, I was ready to be entertained, and you went through him like tissue paper, Chef Yachtou. You know, so you know in that tri-state area, I think they need to blow the thing up, including in B. But go back to that series, man, where you're in any way, shape, or form going into game one against the Sixers, where you're concerned given what they did to the Celtics.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe not. Oh, absolutely. I mean, one of the things that people are saying, and you kind of touched on it briefly, was the fact that people were saying, oh, who we playing? But you're talking about a 76ers team that came back being down what 3-1 to Boston? Yeah, and came back and smacked them boys. And I'm talking about a Boston team that was loaded. They could they got Tatum back. He had some and Brown, I mean, Jalen Brown had a uh uh he got snubbed uh this year with the RBA team. But this guy had an amazing season. So, like, yeah, it was worrisome to seeing them. And then you're talking about rivalries, you're talking about sports rivalry where records get thrown out the window when you're talking about two teams that's just, you know what I'm saying, a short trip, a train ride away from each other, they in each other's backyard. So I knew it was gonna be a uh a knockdown dragon. I thought it was gonna be a war, but it was it was the breaking of the wheel. It just seems like when when when you're not able to put a team away and they just creep back in and they kind of sit up like the Undertaker used to do, it breaks the will of the other team. I think we did that with the 76ers, and then we were able to go on and do the exact same thing with the Cavaliers, who just showed that they're a tough team because they knocked off the number one team. I don't I don't get with people the this whole story about, hey, oh, you played a soft calf team. This team just went and manhandled Detroit, which was a, I mean, Detroit was a powerhouse. They were looking like some of them old school Ben Wallace teams. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. So for for us to guard and do what we did, we beat who was in front of us. That's what you're supposed to do. You're gonna have an opponent, you go out there, you step on your opponent's neck. That's exactly what the Knicks did, and that's

Defense Pressure And Mitchell Robinson

SPEAKER_01

exactly what they're gonna continue to do.

SPEAKER_02

Well, possession by possession, before Marlon Turks over, he's an excellent host. Defensively, talk about your Knicks and what they're doing to shut down the other people's teams. You know, I mean, Mitchell had his moments and Maxie had his moments in the 76th series, as well as McCullum in Atlanta. But the team defense as a whole is nobody talks about that. You know the proficiency on offense, Chuck Chef Yaquel. You know your team, but talk about defensively what your team has done to these teams in the playoffs. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Well, what they're doing is they're they're they're making your offense become extended. You're not able to just go down and set up your offense like any other team that you've been able to do that against. And what they're doing is they're pressuring. I mean, even later in the fourth quarter uh in the game yesterday, they were still pressuring, throwing Cleveland's offense totally out of sync, out of whack. And that's huge because we all know that offense, offense is about momentum, that motion. How you getting into it? And that's what they're able to do. I mean, switching, you got bigs that can cover pretty much one through five. So you know what I'm saying? It wasn't an issue there. They're able to keep everything compact there. So you're going up against a team that wasn't really great shooting the three-ball. I mean, you hardness, uh, he gets on sometime. Struce is one of those guys where he when he's hot, he's hot, but he's not. And then Spider, I don't know if he's hurt or not of what's going on with him, but they just didn't shoot the three-ball well. And that defense that that deterrence attributed to it. And what one of the things that I really noticed was every time Cleveland scored, whether it was in unless it was a one-on-one from one of their guards, it took an amazing pass, a really good pass to get that shot off, whether it was big to big, or whether it was from the outside down low to the big, they had to make really excellent, like strategically perfect passes in order to even get shots. Whereas the Knicks are coming out one, two passes, and it was open.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's good, man. Mitchell Robinson is my guy. I was a defensive rebound office around my career high was only 17, you know. But it's one of those things where defense rebound was my thing. I love Mitchell Robinson, man. You know, I'm older than he reminds me of him. I pattered my game for the record, Shaq Alcool off of Lonnie Shelton and Maurice Lucas and West Sunfell in the late 70s, early 80s. But talk about Mitchell Robinson and his offense and keeping possessions alive, you know, doing that. I think he's a key. When he was hurt, you felt it. But he felt it. So talk about him.

SPEAKER_01

Well, what did well on both sides of the core? I mean, you're able to play a little bit more aggressively, play a little bit more in the passing lanes. When you got a guy like Mitchell Robinson back there to, even if he doesn't block the shot, he's able to get it uh redirected, get it out. He's gonna read rebound everything on the defensive end. And that's the same thing on the offensive end. Um, when you get a big man who can score, get the points without necessarily demanding the ball. I'm talking about getting it off the pick and rolls, uh, getting them pullbacks off the offensive rebound. He just makes that offense flow. He's the perfect big man for that offense. You know what I'm saying? Free up space. How can we get Kyle Anthony Towns and, you know what I'm saying? Get big cat the space. We need the spacing. Having him down there setting them big body picks and rolls beautifully. He's looking for that. Oh, it's high percentage for him. And then coming down, like I said, one through five. Whether if he gets switched off on the guard, it's really no issue or no problem there because he can move his feet, he gets his hand up, he redirects shots, and then he's able to switch back. He talks beautifully. I don't know if I piss he talks. You constantly see him talking in his mouth moving back down there. He's the quarterback of that defense. And I I love what he's doing on both ends of the court.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I got the Knicks for the record winning throw Adam today. But go ahead, Marlon. Uh, you got to go. Let's

Who The Knicks Want In Finals

SPEAKER_02

do it.

SPEAKER_00

And and as we're looking at the other side of that, Doc, I'll go ahead and start with you on this one. I mean, uh okay three is around this game five. They look like they're trying to pull away a little bit. They're up by 18. 10 minutes left in the third, so of course everybody would love to go to five, for the game wanted to see more of a mock-up for the cards. Uh, you know, we got a mark up on the five. So on the first team on the final team, and uh who do you think uh ultimately is gonna end up in the next uh in the final of the twenty?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I tell you, OKC is one of those teams. They are the defending champs and they have death. They got depth just like the Knicks. But by the same token, that the Spurs with this Cadillac at center, or BMW, if you will, you know, Wimbayama, you know, and then they got Vassell and they got uh uh your boy um uh Stefan uh Cotton, I think his name from some from Yukon Castle, yeah. Now it's one of those things where they're gonna win in San Antonio because I believe in that coach. And he you're talking about a coach that's underrated, Chef Yaqu. I know the Boston guy won the coach of the year, but you're talking about with an unknown uh because last year, you know, the f the alien as you call him this excellent, you know, he was hurt with a blood, blood uh uh blood thing, blood disorder, whatever. So you really didn't know how the Spurs would come out. They and they beat OKC four out of five. So yes, to ask you a question more, I think it's scoring seven games because I know the Spurs are gonna bounce back at the crib. I think OKC being a champion they are at home, they're gonna win this game. But by the same token, I am pulling for the Spurs because I want to see the alien if you're going against um uh Kat and and and Mitchell Robinson we discussed I like the guard play they don't have a true point guard because Fox has been out of the lineup and he's been in and out but it's one of those things where you know uh if you ask me I think the Spurs can get it in seven if they got their mind right but bear in mind Chef Yaku OKC is is the champs you know and your boy won SGA won MVP twice in a row now and there's but I just feel like it flops. So to answer your question I'm pulling for the Spurs but I would not be surprised OKC takes care of business you know the team up with the Knicks I don't know I hope that answers your question. Go ahead Chef Yaku.

SPEAKER_01

Oh I I agree with you on that um one of the one of the things that I've I'm seeing from OKC is um even when Shay isn't having his best game they're still able to win games uh he doesn't have to have his best shooting performance in order for them to uh to to get a big win um but I mean seeing that Jalen Williams is out I don't I don't know if he's playing tonight I just turned the game on so I don't know if he's playing tonight but I know they've been having some injury issues um I know Chet had injured his finger last game I know those is little hankering injuries and things like that.

SPEAKER_00

And then you look across it talking about uh the point guard play I mean uh the the Spurs with with having Fox back uh and you know he's nursing that those ankle injuries um and then Castle's

Yankees Checkup And Rotation Health

SPEAKER_00

just been playing like a man uh uh way above his years you know with him being so young I think that they got a better back uh better backcourt situation I think with this going seven games with some of the injuries that's going on OKC I think the Spurs can definitely pull this out but they're gonna have to uh uh really show improve because to beat the champ you really got to beat the champs and you talk about a team that's already been there um you're not gonna be able to just push them around you see that they're gonna play whimsy tough so uh if the Spurs can overcome that uh get some scorn get get uh some baskets from that get some bench scorn I definitely think that in seven games uh San Antonio can can take it well who do you prefer playing your call right now or does it really matter because the Knicks it don't matter it don't matter we can play hey we can play season disciples I got Knicks and six that's all I'm saying right on brother I love it I love it okay so uh now on on to your Yankees uh we've we've definitely been through a a period uh over the course of the years where the Yanks have been uh very up and down so um right now uh 32 and and 22 not not too bad how you feeling about the Yanks so far this year um I mean five and five in the last ten the Yanks are typically uh I I'm I'm I'm doing what I normally tell myself it's a long season it's a long season um we're right where I want to be I mean we're right there with the Rays what three games out I think we're gonna be two and a half after the ninth game this is finished up so I really feel like we're gonna be uh right where we need to be um one of the things to me is these Raids they're just so damn pesky we they've been spanking us all year and you look at that lineup and it's nothing special when you look at it on paper but these dudes just play together start from Yandy Diaz I mean Yandy just has been a thorn in our side for years.

SPEAKER_01

So um we we I'm not really worried about the Blue Jays we've been handling them uh the rest of our schedule coming up for the next I want to say two to three series is really looking good. I think we got uh Cleveland coming up we got the A's who even though the A's are uh I think in first place in the ALS we pretty much handled them and I'm not really tripping about that so I think that we're coming back we just got Cole back we got Rondon back um Max Freeze should be back in uh probably maybe later on in the month so we'll we'll we're starting to get healthy at the right time you never know what happens around All-Star break um with free agency who who's gonna be buyers and sellers around that time I've been hearing some grumbling um I'm kind of mad the Phillies picked their season up because I sure would have loved to uh go after Bryce Harper uh this year this was some of the rum that was some of my uh Christmas things like that but hey I I I'll take it as it comes with the game because it's a long season um three games back two and a half like I said at the end of the night we're where I want to be yeah well I'm glad you brought up Jarrett Cole or Garrett Cole because he's a superstar to the end degree and you pair him up with uh my ex-Bray's pitcher who I'm still Max Free.

SPEAKER_02

I mean you know there's no salary cap in baseball I'm mad at Anthropolis for letting him walk out of Atlanta but that's another another topic for another day but you bring up a good point Chef Yaku relative to the Yankees man you know you can't sell Tampa Bay short but by the same token you guys are a second half team and you got Judge I don't know when Stanton's gonna play you got the roster you just got to stay healthy man you know and Judge is going through a rough stretch but my guy was Stanton if you got him in the lineup with Judge there's no stopping you and plus you're getting Garrett Cole back man.

SPEAKER_01

Comment on that real quick oh it's amazing um even it's his first start I mean he said he went six scoreless innings uh bullpen kind of messed that up but I mean he looked good coming out I mean Rendon did too he uh he got two losses but they look good coming back and that's something to get excited for and you know with it being such a long season these guys are gonna get four five six starts before we get into that heat of when you know when everything really really starts to matter so I'm I'm not worried we got 110 games left and Marlon I want to weigh in on your Padres too because you're battling the Dodgers and the Dodgers have been messing around but you know it's a good answer for your Yankees brother baseball is better when the Yankees are prevalent.

SPEAKER_02

Now you're not in first but like you referenced you got 110 games left so I ain't getting

Padres Pressure And Star Expectations

SPEAKER_02

it twisted. My Braves were I think we beat the Red Sox tonight with nine and a half games up you know in the east and let Barring a total collapse I'm shocked Chef Ya Kuni and Marlon you guys know baseball. Walt Weiss put the hit factor and a fresher breath air from uh the previous coaching staff even though Snicker did want to ring for us but comment I want Marlon to comment on his Padres man because I live out here I got to hear all this dodgy mess. I'm pulling for the Padres.

SPEAKER_00

Go ahead Marlon I I think that that's that's that's a struggle you know um where sometimes we do end up getting the better of them in the midseason but you know they they just want to get to the playoffs and once they get to the playoffs they go ahead and do what they do. But you know we just got to just think of the thought season uh even if we don't end up being number one of the division of we just got to think about and then from there once the playoffs contact one we can do our best to keep up with them but that's all about it for they can have all of their their if you go back and forth uh with with some of the players during during the regular season but once playoffs con that's that's when the game starts with them so we just got to play right so we don't have to get ready to come playoff time. Are you disappointing uh in in uh tattoo from any tattoos and Machado's uh output so far this year so far so yeah you know thus far I mean you know these are stars and you need the stars to play we we dealt with the same thing a year ago with um with with Juan Soto you know you need him to play need him stay healthy and deliver so uh it's definitely been a disappointment thus far for sure well it's Jeff Ya too for the wreck and I'm picking the praise Yankees uh World Series I think we need to get back to you guys because we flew it up I forget what year 96 or whatever

Giants Draft Optimism And Concerns

SPEAKER_00

so I I want to get your ass back yeah but go ahead barley for that yeah all right so uh the the Giants they they of course they are in the news with with a little bit of uh uh presidential stuff with with the quarterback but uh other than that you know they had a really decent draft um you know the the Giants are always a team that they they have the money they they spend the money uh it's it's really about putting it all together you're gonna have Scott to go back you got the dart uh the neighbors was gonna be ready I thought they were gonna sign Odell I guess they would they passed on that and and of course you got Carter you got the defensive weapons as well so Steph what do what are your thoughts Morse on the draft and and how are you feeling this year um about your Giants um I'm I'm extremely uh positive going into uh this next season with the Giants I mean anytime you got a brand new coaching staff coming in um that is somewhat uh competent you always have a little bit of excitement there so I'm really happy to see what Harbaugh and he I mean the second he came in he started kind of putting his imprint um and his identity on the team so I love that you know what I'm saying him and his brother those are football dudes football just football dudes I feel like they talk about at the dinner table they talk about X and O's that's how they are so I'm not um I'm I'm I'm really feeling positive about that with Jackson Dark the Jackson Dark situation let me tell you I've been to this presidential stuff with him I was really excited to have Jackson Dark's trying and I know this doesn't take away from him and football and what he uh does on the football field but it's still to see you know to to to see somebody to be uh so dense in in thinking and reasoning right there it's a little dark you know I think that's that's that's about as far as I want to give uh you know the attention to that situation you know what I'm saying um yeah I feel like uh with our running running game running back by committee uh is one of the things the NFL's been on that I mean how many how many how many uh super bowl teams in the last year have had a thousand yard 1100 yard 1200 yard rusher it's been uh it's been running back by committee and I feel like this is a really good committee of running backs talking about third stringer and Devin Singletary uh Tyrone Tracy Jr.

SPEAKER_01

and Cam Scattable so that's looking good the receiving core to me is is one of those questionable things we can be one of the top receiving cores in the in in in the NFL or we can be one of the worst receiving cores in the NFL and that all hinges on the least neighbors um his injury I want to see a little bit more from Jalen Hyatt I mean he was a speedster that was supposed to be able to take the Tennessee yeah from Tennessee and I I've just been so disappointed with that because I saw so much promise with him but I mean Darnell Mooney was a huge I think I think out of all the free agents I'm most excited to see Darnell Mooney just I mean exceptional I think one of the most underrated route runners in the league but also the things that he's going to be able to help and instill with Malik neighbors and kind of uh take him under lead and say hey this is some bad stuff and kind of get him ready I love the Isaiah likely pickup he can stretch the field a little bit catch it over the middle you know like that Patrick Rashad I mean we got I it it's that Baltimore that Baltimore identity all over the you know what I'm saying and I'm loving it. Andrew Thomas listen Doc a couple years ago I don't even know if you remember this a couple years ago you talked me off the edge with um Andrew Thomas and you said listen chef he's a good guy he's a workout don't you worry he's gonna and I and and I was a little heartbroken and doc I I thank you so much for that because you were the one voice of reason in my head and I watched him bloom and blossom and I can honestly sit here in front of you today and say that's my left side. So I I thank you for that um and and let me tell you Francis our our draft hit uh from Miami um I he's gonna be moved to one of those tackle positions if not by midseason I mean the start of next season he'll be back he'll be on uh one of those bookends I definitely see that so I'm excited that defense is going to get after the quarterback it's gonna be disguised they're gonna be able to disguise blitzes Arvell Reese is like this now listen I wanted Sonny Styles Jr. I'm not even gonna lie I think it's gonna be a Swiss army now but learning what they got planned for Arvell Reese and and the way they want to work him in there and you know Burns is going to have I think going to have a great year I'm looking for Thibodeau to bounce back and really have a good year. And I I just really feel like it's gonna be a a great chance and a great testament to see what Harbaugh's able to do with this team and I'm excited about it.

SPEAKER_02

Well I'm excited too many though I'm not a Giants fan I'm a draft geek and I love RBR Reeves. You can put him in space put him on the edge and you can even play him an inside man Ohio State had him anyway now he's really the young and it's up to your coach Harbaugh to uh mold him but I want to hit on something that you talked about with your quarterback Jackson Darn his second year. I'm glad you brought it up we need to talk about I don't want him to lose the locker room in his second year because if it's foolishness you need to keep his mouth shut he's the leader of the team you got a lot of black players on the team that are highly sensitive and and all that and he is just shut I know he went to O miss not one of the most racial I mean the one of the most racially charged states in history but by the same token you're in a big city now where everything gets blown up and you're the quarterback. So I just wish he would shut up and keep it to himself. You saw what happened in San Francisco Marlon and Chef Yaaku with Bosa you know uh exploded and said some things and that locker wasn't the same but this is a quarterback we're talking about Chef Yaaku and I'm I'm I'm glad I'm glad that you brought that up man now relative to your defense I think as you referenced you need to have an upticking uh uh Thibodeau and I think you will Burns is a star and then I think R L Reese is going to be and your capital young what happened to the Alabama guy you're gonna slide him inside he's been a disappointing at tackle I forget his name uh in his third year at the big tackle on offense uh I want to get his name Evan Neal yeah yeah Evan Neal what happened to him Neil Neil I think I Neil is like the third guard right now he's the third right guard that's and I feel like if you fly down that far you shouldn't even be on the roster but on my number one pick. Yeah I I I love you running back. That's that yeah I always wonder what happened to him good answer. Scatterboo's the key though you know and and he's he's gotta stay healthy this is the league you can't run over everybody like he did at Arizona State. Same with Jackson Dark you gotta be smart he got what three or four concussions marling a chef in the rookie year you got to be smarter than that but other than that man I think you can challenge for the division I really do I don't I don't want to I don't want to I don't want to be one of those delirious Giants fans and but I and and and please take this lightly please take this as light as possible.

SPEAKER_01

I think back on my Giants championship team and I think about what we had right we had a quarterback from old miss if if it was anything you know I'm saying in that yeah we had a running back by commission we had a power guy Cam Scatterbook fits that we got uh Tyrone Tracy who can give you that third down back catch the ball and he can break one good receiving core and then a defense that's able to get out the quarterback so that we're not necessarily leaving our cornerbacks on islands for too long of a time I I'm I'm I'm excited and I think that we kick it off the best way and that's against the Cowboys. We want I want to see I want to throw us right into the hot water throwing there I want to see what we're really made of I don't want to start off in Cincinnati I don't want to do nothing Miami I'll make this Dallas Cowboys game that's what I want the measures to start the season.

SPEAKER_02

Well that's a good response starting in the division is that game at home or on a road I forgot I gotta look at the it's in New York it's in New York oh it's in New York I thought it was in Dallas in New York nope it's in New York Sunday night football.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah so that'll be a good they're always end up playing each other the first month not first game and Monday night if not opening up the season uh the Cowboys do. But yeah it's definitely gonna be a good season for you I'm uh I'm always at least rooting for the Giants the first way to beat the Cowboys and everything but the last thing I don't think people are worried about them necessarily too much this for but looks like we're starting with the defense we're gonna get out of with those guys and then the offense we got so you got the star power you got the weapons you got to have some more for the longest dark you gotta keep dark healthy you have to learn how to fly learn how to get out of bounds on the stuff you're gone and you're fast and and all that stuff but you you gotta don't don't gotta be like RG30 and some of the Lamar had to learn about it too. And Lamar was the one that was you know taking on the three hooks and everything so once he does that after extra guarding works yeah and and Harbaugh's gonna help him too as well he's gonna uh he's worked with a lot of especially just with Lamar but uh he's worked with some good quarterbacks in the past and he's gonna make sure that excuse me that he um yeah uh protect he learns how to protect himself for sure it's it's a tough schedule I'm look I'm looking at the schedule it's a tough schedule but it's it's it's it's very doable.

SPEAKER_01

I mean with the right with the right system if we hit the if we hit the ground running I mean I I can easily see our first seven games we can go five and two that's fair yeah are you more concerned with Dallas and what they did in the draft overall I think Dak's overrated in a 10th year or are you concerned with the Eagles who has a chip the last three years either or what are you concerned I I really I really think Dallas I think Dallas made some really good moves at free agency as well as the draft so uh I really think they closed that gap um that you know that minute gap that it could have been uh between them and Philadelphia I think Philadelphia is gonna be who they are um they're they're always gonna get in their own way so I'm not really I'm not really tripping on Philadelphia I really see Dallas is taking some strides this year that's why I want them first what about the commanders rounding out the division they picked Sonic Styles your guy and you know the quarterback has to stay healthy in Carter but he's dynamic.

SPEAKER_02

Are you uh concern at all about that division especially on the road in Washington? Absolutely that division is back I mean uh I when I was a kid growing up the NFC East was I mean NFC that's right you know so it it it was uh it was it was one of those not at any given Sunday you you might lose a player you might lose a quarterback it was tough like that you know so I really feel like it's just back I mean from from top to bottom um they're right up there with any other division in football and I mean we'll see how it plays out and like you said Daniels has a problem with itself with trying to you know is it worth going that extra yard or getting those extra two yards and getting your head knocked off so we'll see how he retores and and takes that but I mean they they scary Terry Terry McLaurin's always been one of the most underrated uh receivers of me dude's been nasty been there been nasty so we'll definitely see man but any one of those teams like I I I I could not right now tell you how the division is going to line up and stack up I just say hey let the best team win and make that team be the Giants yeah yeah I hear you brother what's it like up there in the Bay Area during this time A's are battling for first place what are they gonna do with the uh Golden State Warriors across

Bay Area Sports Reality Check

SPEAKER_02

the bridge you know and and all that they bring in Draymond Green give us a uh a uh you know a sit rep if you will in the Bay Area sports scene up there especially the A's so so right now the uh what the A's is doing is they're doing their best thing to kind of save face and give value we got a lot of people that were heartbroken about the situation with the A's and the ownership and so with them actually doing good now I'm seeing a lot of the people that was telling me I'll never support them or go out there.

SPEAKER_01

They're thinking about it now they're going to check it out they're still not buying the jerseys nobody's buying the jerseys with the Sacramento on there the hats with the Sacramento on it but they're they're they're starting to come around to and say hey those are still our boys while they're here um in uh in the Greater Bay Area I'll call it up there in Sacramento. And then I mean with the Giants Giants are the Giants they're they're one of the teams that plays in one of the most beautiful ballparks in all the sports and they just can't find a team to make it work since those championship teams that they had in what 2012 1416 but yeah they're just reeling now and it's you know you go there and check games and they just can't hit on any of the prospects they get uh John Foley was supposed to be like the next great height um and he's just kind of been a dud and I mean you look up and down their roster and it's just guys of of yesterday on that team Harrison Vaders and things like that. So I mean the Giants are the Giants they're they're who we thought they were going to be um the situation with the Warriors man like uh I I don't know I I think everything that's going on with Draymond Green with the what what he had to say about uh Kerr hindering his career possibility and then the Warriors going out and re-signing Kerr and getting him locked in I think that's supposed to hit the day for Draymond Green for myself personally but what happens there who wants to take that on wow that's a good point yeah go ahead Martin good analysis a good answer on that brother absolutely was true other than that that's that's really oh uh I guess some some chargers news uh Derwin James is now the the highest paid safety uh yet again so which is well deserved

Chargers Notes And AFC West Gauntlet

SPEAKER_00

We definitely had to make sure we locked him up. But he again. Wow, he is.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. During James.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Just got to stay healthy. You know, he'll fly around. He he loves the guard, the fastest players, the biggest players, and it's all good. And he's a hard hitter, but you're no good to us if you can't stay on the field. So definitely glad he got his money. Khalil Mack is back for uh another year. Uh we have a lot of young talent around. We got to teach these rookies a game and and you know, make some noise in the AFT West because you know Mahomes is gonna come and be ready. Uh week one, the Raiders spent a ton of money. Uh, and the Broncos are, you got to think they'll pick up where they left off last year. So it's gonna be a tough division. Uh, we we got Herbert some help uh with some tackles. Our tackles are back and they're healthy. I wish it would have got a solid number one receiver, uh, either via trade or potentially in the draft. But um, you know, we got Hampton uh back at running back. So yeah, I mean I'm ready for the season two as well. And and uh we we we'll be uh we'll be ready for uh we got the Cardinals week one, which I'm not too crazy about. Then we got the Raiders, and then that's when the schedule gets tough with uh uh at Buffalo, at Seattle, home against the Broncos, at the Chiefs, and then we get a buy. So that's gonna be a tough stretch after those two easy games, but definitely ready for this season.

SPEAKER_02

Well, my wife and Raider S will beg the defensive by week two, even though it's a so five stadium, the Raiders. I want to see the kid quarterback, Chef Yaku, take snaps. I don't want to see Kirk Cousins, man. You draft the number one overall for a reason. Now you got two running backs. The rookie from Arkansas ran a 4-3-3 at the combine, and you got Ashley Jensee. So just throw him in there, man, you know, and take it

Final Thoughts And Farewell
