Mind of the Crochet Designer podcast

Ep 29: Instantly elevate your crochet designs to the next level by doing less

Christina Hadderingh

Hi crochet design friends!

How are you? I hope you are well. I am simply swamped, but in a good way.

Busy with a new pattern release + creating all of the audios, videos, assignments and workbooks for The Immersive. My new program that will give you all the tools you need to create a design that's so great, it does the selling for you! (Social media fatique anyone?)

I actually did not plan this episode, but as I was going over an audio for The Immersive, I thought to myself, this is so amazing, I really need to share it with you guys!

When we want to create our best design yet, we think we need to do more:

* Cram 20 techniques into one design in order for it to be valuable

* Make it really complicated for ourselves and others

* Make sure it is original and intricate, because simple isn't worth paying for (which is a myth btw)

But here's the thing, we actually want to do less. And I know that sounds very counterintuitive. But in this episode I go over why doing less is one of the key things that helps you create your best design yet.

Love

Christina

PS: The Immersive is currently closed so I can create it together with the awesome designers that already enrolled, but if you are on the waitlist, you will be the first to know when it opens again.

Hello, creative and beautiful soul. Welcome to a new episode for the Mind of the Crochet Designer podcast. I actually did not plan this episode at all because I am simply swamped but in a very good way. I mean, I am collaborating with Playful, which is a pattern subscription site for my new pattern release, the Migration show. Which also involves an interview and doing a masterclass, so I've been very busy with that, but also with creating audios, workbooks, videos, assignments for the immersive and oh my God, this has been so magical and I felt a bit guilty to say the least, because as you might know, I am only working a few hours every day because I'm also a mother, but I'm also trying to run two businesses. So I'm trying to run a spoonful of yarn and I'm trying to run Christina Crochet coach. So being so busy, I felt a bit guilty towards you guys, the listeners of the Mind of the Crochet Designer podcast, and I was actually going over an audio for the immersive. Which is, as you might know, the program that will really help you tap into your creative genius and create your best design. Yet, because we are crochet designers first and foremost, so why not spend 90% of our time creating that amazing, magical design so that it will sell it for us? I mean, we can do so much better than we are. Probably currently creating and I have created the immersive simply to help you tap into that. And I've been loving creating this for the students that already enrolled. And we are just having so much fun conversations around the struggles of a crochet designer and how the immersive can help them. They manage those struggles. So I was going over an audio because I was creating a workbook and I was re-listening to the audio and I was like, okay, this is so powerful. I really want to share it with you guys. It's all about how to. Elevate your crochety signs to the next level, not by doing more, but by doing less. Let's roll the tape.

Microfoon (YXC usb audio)-1:

Hello, creative and beautiful soul to a new audio for module one. Like I said in the last audio, I actually have two assignments to create more creative flow and also be open for ideas. And initially I actually made it into one audio, but I actually want to spend more time talking about what it means to be open in your day. Because when we go back to taking children as an example, they are so, so open. They take up. Everything and anything like sponges, and we really want to be able to tap back into that again. I mean, it is so easy to live a life. Always go, go, go, always onto the next, onto the next, and then we actually don't regard our surroundings anymore. And if we are talking about receiving ideas, receiving inspiration for our creative work, we really want to keep our senses open. We really want to see, we want to notice our surroundings, the small details of a leaf there might be a tree you ride past every single day, but you never notice it. But how magical that such a big thing is actually existing in this world. You know, inspiration can be anything, but we really want to be open to receive inspiration and ideas are something not to chase. Not to force but for us to receive and we can only receive something when we are open. Look you can feel it like. Receiving a gift, you cannot receive a gift when you have your hands full. You really want to have empty, open hands so you can receive that gift of inspiration. So that's what assignment two is. Before I go into the assignment I want to address, I want to give a very powerful analogy. And this might sound really woo woo. And if you're like, well, I am way too grounded for this way too down to earth, then by all means just ignore what I'm saying or just disregard this idea, this analogy. But I really feel inspiration and receiving ideas as magic. It's like. The universe is this big cloud hovering in the sky. It's the all It can even be said that it is God, and I'm not even talking about a Christian God, but the all knowing, like all of the energy and all of the intellect of the universe hovering. In a cloud above you, and we can actually tap into that because we are all part of that. We are all creators of the universe. We are the universe, and the universe is us. So few, the universe as. Like a super brain, like a super computer we can tap into because, and this is so funny, a lot of the times when you see something very new, very original come to life any idea like I don't have an example right now. But it often happens that new and innovative ideas come at exactly the same time or almost at the same time. And this is for me, I don't believe in coincidences. I feel like the supercomputer of the universe I feel like. A few people at the same time tapped into that supercomputer that is the universe, and both got the same idea at the same time. And this is how it works with inspiration. we really want to tap into that soup, that cloud, that magic that is the universe. And we already are part of it, so it's actually quite easy to tap into that. And I am going to, with this assignment, show you exactly how, and it's easy, it's simple, but it might not be easy, especially when your day is filled with so many things. But assignments two. It is simply to make space in your day to receive ideas.

Microfoon (YXC usb audio):

And I already talked about this during the challenge, but I want to address it once again because it is so important. You really want to treat your brain as the magical and creative thing. It actually is. You need to treat it with respect and don't just go pour anything in it. You can feel your brain and feel your body as a cup, and you can fill it with. Good things and you can fill it with bad things. So you really want to fill it with things that inspire and make you feel expansive that make, the world around you feel magical. I mean, you are literally made of stardust. You are magical. So we really don't want to fill that cup with things that don't serve you. We want to cut down on things that make us feel overwhelmed, stressed, or shrunk down. So we really want to limit the things that make us feel that way, such as maybe for you that certain social media posts or accounts or the news, I mean. I make it no secret. I don't follow the news any longer because it made me feel so stressed, so overwhelmed, and so powerless, and I really want to feel powerful. So make sure that you feel your day with things that make you feel expansive and light and fun and I think so many of us are forgetting that we can feel guilty when we have it better than others. When we watch the news and we see all those things going. On around us. So many horrible things we can do nothing about. But what we can do is create, we can create art because art is the thing that no AI bot will ever grant us. It is the thing that. Humanity has given us for so long, no matter whether there was war or famine, people create. And so this is your gift to the world. The world already is so hard and so heavy as it is. I feel. As creatives, it is our duty and our gifts to give to the world to create more playfulness, more lightness, and more beautiful things. That's our gift to give. So what I want for you is, as assignment two, is to create space in your day by doing nothing. Or filling it with the things that give you joy, but in the doing nothing, if only for five minutes, just treat it as an experiment because a lot of us, we are not accustomed to doing nothing. We always have to do something, go work towards something. So it might feel really awkward. But this is my invitation to, as an experiment, just do nothing for five minutes. Just stare at the clouds, stare at a wall, or whatever. You need to be open and let your mind wander because again, our creativity, our brain is like a cup. And when we cram it full. There's no space anymore to receive. And the best ideas, they come at the nighttime when you are doing nothing, they come in the shower, you know, and there's a reason for that is it's because you are not cramming your brain full with. Thanks. Your cup is empty, so allow it to be filled. Allow your mind to be open and let it wander. It is such a powerful process to be open, to receive ideas. That's where the real magic happens. I hope you can Experiment with this. Let your mind wander. and if you are really strap for time, I mean, seriously, everyone has five minutes. And if you don't really, you have other problems to solve first. But if you're like, struggling to create that space in your day by doing nothing, treat your shower session as your creative hub. During brushing your teeth. Treat that as your creative. Hub treated as the space to receive. So that's it. In the next audio I will talk about what do I do now that, that flow is coming in full force. Holy so very fun. Because this is what will happen if you honor that creative process, that creative flow ideas will come in full force and we want to know what to do with them. So talk to you on the next audio. Bye bye.
