Welcome to Mighty Line Minute, your go-to podcast for workplace innovation, safety, and a touch of music! We’re here today continuing our series on music in the workplace. Today’s podcast is titled, Escaping Office Noise — because open work environments can get loud very fast!

With over 70% of workplaces embracing open layouts, and employees spending half their day collaborating, noise is a constant challenge. Add exposed ceilings or the hum of machinery in production environments, and forklifts and motorized conveyor lines in warehouses with hard surfaces, and what happens? Sound bounces everywhere, leading to stress and distraction, while heightening risk of injuries due to noise distraction that can affect concentration.

Studies show 38% of workers crave private spaces for acoustic and visual calm. So, how do you find peace when a quiet corner isn’t an option? Here are several ways to improve acoustics in the office environment.

Modular pods are freestanding, sound-dampening rooms perfect for calls, focused tasks, or small meetings. Brands like Orangebox or Officebricks offer compact, stylish options that fit any space. In warehouses, place pods near break areas or offices to create quiet zones away from equipment noise.

Steelcase manufactures Flex Acoustic Boundaries. These mobile, sound-absorbing panels are game-changers. Mounted on wheels, they let you create instant acoustic zones.

Divisio Acoustic Screens are designed for flexibility, and attach to desks or stand alone. They boast a 0.7 sound absorption rating and customizable fabrics. Use them to partition workstations or isolate noisy machinery, blending function with style.

To build a full acoustic strategy, consider layering solutions. Here’s how:
