Today I wanted to speak about the topic of fear, something that typically is thought of as something to avoid, but today I am going to reframe fear and how fear can actually serve you, and I want to reframe it in a way that you actually look forward to opportunities that are somewhat fearful, that you actually seek out opportunities and situations that are a little bit scary. So fear is nothing more than a state of mind. It's an imagined state of mind, one that we create, one that we make up essentially, mind, one that we create, one that we make up essentially, and one state of mind is subject to control and redirection. So when you think of fear, I want you to think of fear as a potential opportunity, when faced, to grow, to move to the next level, to create a new result. Because, remember, if you keep doing the same thing that you've always done, you're going to get the same result that you've always got. So if nothing ever changes, then nothing ever changes. So when you find yourself in a situation or with an opportunity or something you want to do that scares you, you have two choices. One is you can retreat back and stay in a comfort zone and stay right where you are, or you can face that fear head on and do the thing that is actually scary and come out on the other side, because on the other side of fear is passive growth, potentially your greatest gift. On the other side of fear, fear is nothing more than a barrier to something great. So when you face a situation and you have to make a choice whether or not to do something, make a decision right then and there that I'm going to do the thing that scares me. Fear stops progress and we are meant for more. That's the whole purpose of this podcast is to remind you that there's a greater version within you that's just dying to come out. So don't let fear hold you back from doing things that are great.

Karen Sarmento:

Doing things that are scary gives you power. Teach yourself to show up and do hard things and do it with the utmost faith and trust in the process. Teach yourself that it's okay to be afraid, but do it anyway. Do it anyway because you'll come out on the other side. Whether you do it perfectly, whether everything goes wrong. You come out on the other side and say I did it. And then you do it again and you do it again, I did it. And then you do it again and you do it again, and each time it gets easier. And the more you do those things, the more you create a different reality, the more your life changes and when you live that way, create a whole different life. So can you see why fear is actually good.

Karen Sarmento:

4:43

But you've got to make a decision that you're going to face it head on, because it's very easy, when faced with a fearful situation, to talk ourselves out of it. It's very easy to reason with ourselves all the reasons why we shouldn't do a certain thing. But what if we talked ourselves into doing the thing that we're afraid of? What if we came up with every reason why we should do something and we don't even entertain the reasons why we shouldn't. We truly have absolute control over our thoughts and, as you recall, thoughts create our reality. Everything begins in the form of a thought. Everything begins in the form of a thought.

Karen Sarmento:

5:38

Living in a place of uncertainty actually adds an element of excitement and passion in our lives. So, although our lives have a need for certainty, they also have a need for uncertainty. And that's where fear comes in, because there's a little, there's a little uncertainty, and say, well, if I do this, I'm not quite sure how it's going to turn out, but that's okay, we don't necessarily need to know how it's going to turn out, it's all happening for you. So do the thing that you're afraid of and that will give you power. The fear, when faced, will give you power.

Karen Sarmento:

6:25

So, when faced with fear, the important thing is that you make a decision, a concrete, committed decision that I will do this. I am going to do the thing that I'm afraid of right now, or the thing that scares me, because it partially scares you but it partially kind of lights you up, and even if it just scares you, make the decision to do it anyway. This I will do, and when you make a concrete, committed decision, you begin to bring that into your reality. You begin to bring form to that thought. It's got to be a decision, though that's where it all begins Make a decision that I'm going to do this because indecision, so lack of a decision, being wishy-washy, being indecisive leads to doubt, which then leads to no action. When doubt is internalized, it just reinforces the fear and then it reinforces that fear on a subconscious level. So it becomes even more fearful and it becomes more ingrained in us and we start to not even be aware of why we even are afraid of something, and we create a story behind it.

Karen Sarmento:

7:57

Much of what is fearful is imagined. Much of the things we worry about are imagined. There's no reason for it. We've created a story and we've attached the story to it. What fears have attached themselves to you? What fears have attached themselves to you? Ask yourself that question and then ask yourself is there any basis for it or did I create a story around it? Have I created a story and told myself that story over and over again? And now it's registering at a conscious level and a subconscious level, and now it feels even scarier. And then we just somewhat become paralyzed by it, and then we don't do the thing.

Karen Sarmento:

8:49

When that happens, our fears begin to control us. Therefore, holding us back back. Fear can stop your progress when we let it. It can only stop the progress when we let it. So make a decision. This I will do, and do it. Remember, if nothing changes, then nothing changes, and on the other side of fear is a greater version of yourself. So when you make a decision to do the thing anyway, and you do it, whether you do it messy, whether you do it perfectly, doesn't matter, you just do it.

Karen Sarmento:

9:40

So the next time you are encountered with a situation that you find fearful and it doesn't matter what it is, whether it's taking a new class, having a conversation, walking into a room, starting a podcast, starting a new career, going out on a night you might have stayed home pursuing your dream, pursuing your goals, it doesn't matter what it is. The next time you're faced with a fear, make a decision that you are going to do it anyway. You owe that to yourself. You deserve that, and that is how you create a new reality. The more you do these things, the easier they become, and pretty soon you raise the thermostat on your life and your new normal becomes a greater version of yourself and as that thermostat raises, you start to attract better to your life. You start to attract better relationships. You start to attract better to your life. You start to attract better relationships. You start to attract better opportunities. You start to attract better, just better, and you'll no longer settle for mediocrity. It won't even be on your radar because you'll be vibrating at a different level. So that's what I will leave you with.

Karen Sarmento:

11:06

Fear can halt progress if you let it. So the next time you're faced with something that scares, you pay close attention, because this may be a turning point for you. And this is an opportunity to step into the next level of your life, because on the other side of doing something scary is massive growth. It's the greatest version of yourself. Remember, whatever challenges you're facing or have faced in the past, they don't define you. You are worthy, capable and destined for greatness. Let's embrace the whispers of possibility together, because together we rise and we are meant for more.
