Today, I wanted to share some thoughts with you that I believe are truly life-changing, something I've been thinking a lot about lately and I really feel called to talk about it, and I can truly relate to it. So what I wanted to talk about is that oftentimes, we feel that we need to be perfect in order to make a difference, or we need to be perfect in order to help somebody else, or that our imperfections somehow disqualify us from doing something great. Well, I believe it is exactly the opposite of that. So listen to what I'm about to say and really let it sink in. We are most qualified to help the person that we used to be. We are most qualified to help the person that we used to be. I can't take credit for this line I actually heard it through Ed Milet, but boy did it stick with me because it is true. You are truly an expert on what you've gone through and come out on the other side.

Karen Sarmento:

So when you think about your past experiences that might be painful or embarrassing, things you wish you could change, what if it is those exact experiences that now allow you to help somebody else? I believe we all have periods of time in our life where we felt broken. I know I had a period of time in my life where I felt very broken and small and at that time I couldn't possibly imagine helping anybody else. I couldn't even help myself. Imagine helping anybody else. I couldn't even help myself. So when you actually persevere and move through those painful experiences, you come out on the other side different. You come out stronger. You come out of it with lessons, you come out of it with wisdom and you come out of it with wisdom and you come out of it with a strength that did not previously exist. So when you think about experiences in your life that were perhaps painful or embarrassing or made you feel less than what if that was actually meant to be your superpower? What if what once made you feel less than is actually your superpower? Someone needs what you have and because you've already come through it, gone through it and came out on the other side, you are qualified to help somebody else. We feel that our brokenness is somehow a flaw or something to be hidden or something to be ashamed of. But when you actually embrace that and you hold yourself accountable for periods of time in your life, you actually come from a point of power versus weakness and it allows you to grow and it allows you to help somebody else grow.

I don't know if anybody's heard of the term kintsugi, but kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form and it involves repairing broken objects like pottery or glass using a lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. The process encourages people to fix broken objects instead of discarding them, and then it actually adds value to them, so their brokenness actually becomes a source of value. So think about this they treat the breakage in the repair that follows as a part of the object's history, rather than something to be hidden. So what if you applied that concept to your life? What if you embraced imperfection and if you saw the healing that takes place as an essential part of the human experience? What if you embraced your imperfections and saw them as something to empower you? What if you derived strength from those imperfections, rather than seeing it as something to hide, which suggests that you're ashamed of it, or something to be embarrassed about? What if you saw that as your superpower?

Karen Sarmento:

So oftentimes, clients that I work with struggle with finding their purpose, and oftentimes our purpose actually comes out of our most painful experiences in life. So when you really sit down and you're trying to think about you know geez, am I meant for something more? I kind of feel like I am, but I don't know what. I would actually encourage you to take a peek at some of those painful experiences in your life and ask yourself if there isn't something there that's leading you to your purpose. Ask yourself if there isn't something there that you know. Maybe I could help somebody else with that, because I've already been through it and I came out on the other side and it doesn't matter what it is.

Karen Sarmento:

7:13

I do believe we all have experienced that feeling of brokenness in our life, and what if the Japanese art form of repairing that broken pottery with powdered gold could remind you that even in your brokenness you are so valuable. And it's in the brokenness that you are even more valuable. So don't shy away from it. Don't try to cover it under the rug. Don't be ashamed of anything in your life. Use it as lessons. Use it as lessons, use it as tools to move forward. Use it as a means to a greater version of yourself, Because everything we go through is meant to take us to the next level. So embrace every challenge, embrace every fear and welcome the potential opportunities for growth and the potential opportunities for more, and welcome the possibility that those times in your life were qualifying you to help somebody else.

Karen Sarmento:

8:32

And then I also say let go of the old story if it's holding you back, because you can rewrite that story at any time. So don't let old memories hold you back. Oftentimes we let our memory do a disservice to us. Use your memory to recall the times in your life that you did something amazing. Don't use your memory to remind you constantly of mistakes or your shortcomings or the times that you wish you could change. Use your memory to remind you of the time that you were incredibly powerful. Use your memory to remind you of all that you made it through.

Karen Sarmento:

9:27

You've been that powerful person before and you can be that person all the time. She doesn't have to just come out once in a while. She can come out all the time because she doesn't have to just come out once in a while. She can come out all the time because she's always in there. It's just our thoughts sometimes get away from us and remember our results always reflect the story that's going on in our mind. So take a good look at that inner dialogue and what you're telling yourself, what thoughts you're remembering and getting stuck on.

Karen Sarmento:

10:10

And if I leave you with nothing else, I want to remind you that you are not broken. You're perfect just the way you are, and everything you've been through you had to go through to get to right where you are now, and anything you've gone through that was difficult, painful, embarrassing. In some way shape or form, taught you something and with that something you are a greater version than you were. So I leave you with that. Embrace your imperfections and know that you are perfect just the way you are, perfectly imperfect, thank you. And just the way you are, perfectly imperfect, thank you, and I'll see you next time If you feel like there's anybody that would benefit from this message.

Karen Sarmento:

Let's embrace the whispers of possibility together, because together we rise and we are meant for more.
