This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Regina Lee.
Speaker 2:Hi everyone and welcome to another episode of the Good Neighbor Podcast. I am recording here in the South Charlotte area and my favorite thing to do is to talk to local business owners, and today I have with me Justin Adams. He is president of Structure North Carolina. Welcome, justin.
Speaker 3:Thank you Appreciate it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, tell us what Structure North Carolina is.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so Structure North Carolina is a brand. Structure itself is a brand of Louvre Pergola Systems and so we represent that brand structure here in north carolina. Essentially these are motorized, elegant looking motorized pergola systems that open and close, really allowing customers to be able to operate their patios in the heat. If it starts to rain, they can control the rain. So that's our main focus would be the structure brand, but we also do motorized screens, other ancillary products that kind of really well round the whole outdoor living area for the customers.
Speaker 2:Yeah, there's a restaurant here in Ballantyne In fact I believe you guys did it and it's called the Office and they have this covered patio. That is incredible. I mean it's just stunning. And the options. You know, we've got such great weather here and you can now spend pouring down rain. You can be outside on your deck.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, that office. They have heaters out there. They have motorized vinyl, so during the summertime they can raise everything up, let the air come through, be real refreshing to have fans out there. But when it gets cold, even like today, they drop those screens down, they turn on the heaters. They have a fireplace out there as well and they can use that area year round. They can even do event spaces out there. So it's a great product both for residential and for commercial.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so you do residential as well. That is, I have been to one home where I saw it and I was just mesmerized. I'd never seen it before, I didn't know it even existed, and you know it makes a lot of sense. How did you get into this business?
Speaker 3:Good question. So I had a renovation business in Lake Norman for many years and I was doing kitchens and bathrooms, outdoor living areas, and I had one client that had a very tricky house where we couldn't build a roof system for her outdoor deck area, and so we were trying to look at different options and I offered regular pergolas as an option, and she made a comment that you know, those are kind of pointless. You know things. They let the sunlight through, they let rain come through. So she actually found this product for me, and so I became a dealer for the product and then, as time went on, I recognized that this was really a great niche market to be in. Not really anybody was doing it or even letting people know this existed out there. So in 2007, we focused our, we turned our business from doing renovations and building work just to doing these pergola systems and really getting these pergolas out there. So people knew that they're an option. So that really took us, you know, to creating this, you know structure brand here in North Carolina.
Speaker 2:That's amazing. So I know you are based out of Denver on Lake Norman, but how far? What is your territory or area that you cover?
Speaker 3:Yeah, so for our direct dealership we cover all of Charlotte, so all the surrounding areas, you know, even down into South Carolina Fort Mill, tega K, those areas up to Lake Norman. But we also are the distributor for the product for the whole state of North Carolina. So we have some other dealers that we've set up in the major markets of North Carolina that can buy the product as well. I mean, we service some of the little outlying areas like Pinehurst, some of those other areas where there's no dealers, so we'll handle those areas as well.
Speaker 2:So if a person just has no idea what we're talking about, what would be the best way for them to get a visual of this? Do you have a showroom or is it more online?
Speaker 3:Yeah, good question. I would say the showroom is one of the best ways to see it and really know what it looks like in person. Another way is going to visit different restaurants, different breweries, quite a few of those around Charlotte, around South Charlotte area as well, you know. So that's a good way to see it as well. But we do have a showroom in Uptown Charlotte that we've teamed up with the furniture company you know, very close to Bank of America Stadium, so we can schedule a visit there. And we also are building a new showroom here in Lake Norman, which is going to be a larger showroom showing many different styles and models as well.
Speaker 2:That's wonderful. Can you share yet where that showroom will be?
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's going to be here in Denver, north Carolina, very close to Lake Norman, right near the dam. It's going to be very close, right on. Highway 73 as you cross over from Huntersville into Denver.
Speaker 2:Huntersville into Denver. Yeah, so name some restaurants in the Charlotte, maybe South End and down here towards Valentine, other than the office at Stonecrest.
Speaker 3:Okay, yeah, yeah, there's, so there's a lot, so that I'm gonna have to remember, but I would say yeah.
Speaker 3:So Luce Italian restaurant in the Truist Plaza in Uptown Charlotte is one of them and many people are familiar with the brand called Hoppin. It's a Hoppin Charlotte. It's a Of poor beer, beer and wine place in South End area. We have one of our systems there. Many of the breweries I'm trying to think of the different ones. We have a cheesecake factory up here in Lake Norman and Berkdale. We have a couple of big ones coming as well to that Berkdale area coming soon as well. So there's quite a few all over Charlotte in Lake Norman.
Speaker 2:Well, one thing I noticed on your website you can control the motorized pergola with your smartphone.
Speaker 3:That is amazing. Yeah, yeah, so you can use an app to be able to control the louver pergola. It has a rain sensor, so if it starts to rain, the pergola can actually close itself down, even when you're not home, to keep your furniture and your patio dry.
Speaker 2:OK, that's. That's living large right there and you have retractable screens. Is there anything else you guys do?
Speaker 3:So we just took on a new brand that is going to be motorized glass or sliding glass systems. So even if a customer has, let's say, they don't have one of our pergolas, but they have a regular conventional porch and they want to add motorized screens or glass systems to that porch, we can do that as well.
Speaker 2:That is so cool. What sets you guys apart?
Speaker 3:Good question One we only take on the best brands. When I did get into this business at first, I took on a brand at first of motorized pergolas that I didn't realize. I thought it was the only brand that existed and I realized quickly that it wasn't a very good product. So when I took on the structure pergola system, it's the best in the market, the fastest growing, louvered pergola company in the United States, and we do that with all of our products. So we make sure that we have just the best products and not not really. Uh, we try not to have a lower value option because we believe that, you know, having the best is is makes us the best. Um, I would also say our customer service is next level. Um, our customers are constantly saying this was the best experience I've ever had with any contractor. They're, you know, from beginning of signing contract all the way to the completion. Everyone they work with in our company really makes them feel like they're getting a five-star treatment.
Speaker 2:That's amazing. So how long, you know, do you book out, like if someone were to think of this today, and then how long does it take to actually construct it?
Speaker 3:That's a good question. It usually is a few months. The product from the manufacturer. These are custom ordered systems and so from the time that we place the order to the time that we receive it is anywhere between four to eight weeks. Generally speaking, we can get to the installing quite soon. This is the time of year where everyone is signing contracts and buying, so we do get booked out a little further in the spring and the summertime, but our typical lead time is usually two to three months.
Speaker 2:And what kind of warranty do you offer?
Speaker 3:Good question as well the system itself, so all the components, the structural components, the louvers, have a 15 year warranty on them. The motorized components have a seven year warranty on all the more. Anything that you know that that operates the system, the remotes or the motors, have a seven-year warranty.
Speaker 2:Gotcha. Well, that sounds amazing. Are there any misconceptions that you find when speaking with people calling about it?
Speaker 3:Yeah, the name Pergola. It's called the Pergola X. It's structures, the brand and one of the models is the Pergola X. People think, oh, pergolas, they're stagnant, they're're not really usable. Um, you know, you still get wet, you still get sun coming through. Um, so just the fact that it's called a pergola, it's actually a roof and a pergola all in one and you can kind of go from one, you know, open, you can open it up a little bit more to let some sunlight in, but when it gets really hot you can close it down, block that sun, but still be able to enjoy sitting outside. So I would say the misconception is the fact that it's called a pergola, which really it's. It's a roof and a pergola all in one.
Speaker 2:So can you put that on? Let's say, an upstairs deck Is there is. Does the weight? Is it OK for an upstairs?
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's so. Our systems are very lightweight even though they're heavy duty in construction. So they're. The aluminum is a structure grade aluminum, so it can hold snow loads, it can handle hurricane winds, but because it's a lightweight material itself aluminum being the you know what it's made of it it can go on top of existing decks, existing patios, and it really doesn't add a whole lot of extra overweight to the system, to the home or to the business.
Speaker 2:That's amazing. So tell us what the steps would be if someone listening is interested in learning more.
Speaker 3:So I would say going to our website would be the first thing, and filling out the form. When you fill out that form, uh, our office manager will then reach out to schedule a consultation with one of our design consultants. Um, that's one of the best ways to to to, you know, for somebody to figure out how to get a price for their home yeah, and I see you even offer financing yes, we do.
Speaker 3:Yep, uh, we offer green sky financing. Um, so we can. Typically we can figure out right there, when the consultant is with the customer, if they're approved or not.
Speaker 2:You got it. Well, this is so neat, justin. I'm jealous. I would love one of these. I can see how, at the lake, with all the upstairs decks and the amount of sun, how just amazing this would be. So, as we wrap up, tell our listeners how to find you.
Speaker 3:So you can go to structureNCcom. I'm going to spell that because it's not standard. It's S-T-R-U-X-U-R-E-N-C for North Carolina. com. Or you can call our office as well 704-644-7100.
Speaker 2:Well, I love your product and your passion. Justin Very excited and happy for you, Thank you.
