Welcome, sarai. How are you doing today?

Speaker 3:

I'm doing great. How are you doing?

Speaker 2:

Excellent, I'm doing great. Thank you for joining us today, so we're thrilled to have you here, eager to learn more about you and your business, and if you could tell us about your company.

Speaker 3:

Yes, so I am a hairstylist. I've been in the hairstylist business I guess for 20 years. I've been doing hair throughout New England. I've been in the North Shore for 10 years and I absolutely love what I do. I've branched out a little bit since being in the North Shore. I've grown a lot. I do a lot of session styling. Now I'm signed on with Anchor Artists and I have a local business in Salem, sarai Baidei, where you can visit me and have sessions with me on Derby.

Speaker 2:

Wonderful.

Speaker 3:

That's just one of a few things that I do.

Speaker 2:

There's several of layers okay, can you go into some of those layers? What you you do hair stylist and session stylist. What are those?

Speaker 3:

so that consists of um me being either commercial, doing commercial it could be for Reebok, nike, depending on the client and then I come in and do models, hair and makeup, most likely for companies, and that's through the agency. And then, when I'm in the salon, I do more like services, like haircutting, styling and bridal.

Speaker 2:

Wonderful, and how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

I kind of just been doing it naturally since I was a young girl, just something that just came naturally to me. I'm originally from Boston, Mass. So like I would just literally have everyone in my house just come in do their hair, my mother would have her girlfriends come. It was just kind of something that came to me naturally. And then eventually I came back to it after I went to college for fashion design and decided to do hair.

Speaker 2:

Beautiful. So what are some myths and misconception in your industry?

Speaker 3:

What are the myths? And I've been thinking about this question because I think one of the myths is or what they tend to sell, is that you easily pick up on things and that you get a clientele right away and you just start making money right away. But it's really about relationships and time, a lot of time, which they don't tell you in school.

Speaker 2:

And relationship is key.

Speaker 3:

And relationship is key. So I think one of the myths is that you kind of just get out of school and you start working. That's just actually not how it works at all. You have to learn a lot, there's a big learning process and you get burnt a lot and you upset a lot of people. It's very humbling at first, but then very rewarding.

Speaker 2:

Glad to hear about the rewarding. So outside of work, what do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

That's a good question. These days I've been kind of focusing a lot of work. What do you do for fun? That's a good question. These days I've been kind of focusing a lot on work, but I like to incorporate fun in my work. So lately I've been doing a lot of events, making new relationships so people can get familiar with the brands right by day, and that's what I've been doing for fun, believe it or not. So I've been occupying my time with, you know, just getting to know people in my community, getting to know people in my area, and that's what I've been doing for fun.

Speaker 2:

Well, it's always fun getting to know people. Meeting and learning about someone different is always inspiring. It's always uplifting because it's a great way also to meet friends and make friends.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. So yeah, no, I try to, you know, build relationship as much as I can, and then, when I'm not doing that, I spend time with my two children.

Speaker 2:

Beautiful, beautiful. So let's change gears a little bit, sarai, can you describe one hardship or one of life's challenge that you rose above and can now say because of it you're better and stronger? What comes to your mind?

Speaker 3:

of my career. This wasn't the only career that I had. I had to juggle a lot of other things in order to make this my primary career and in the midst of that I think I had to really build myself up and it's exhausting. So one of the hardships I would say is kind of just juggling. Being a young mom juggling having the career that's bringing in the butter and then having the career that you want as your dream job I think that's one of the things that was one of my hardships.

Speaker 2:

Wow, okay, please tell our listeners one thing that they should remember about Survive by Day.

Speaker 3:

I think one thing they should remember as an advice I would say you know, just never stop going after what you really believe in. Don't let anyone take you out of your journey and just continue moving forward. And Sarai Baidei has had, like, several of trials and tribulations and I'm just happy where it is today.

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, we were grateful. We're so happy to have you on our show. If you can tell our listeners how they can learn more about you, sarai, that would be awesome.
