Sound is probably the most important part of any type of media. We know that we can listen to something without a visual, but we can't watch something without audio.
Sidney Evans:And while audio has a major impact on our day-to-day experiences, the medium, as well as those who help produce it, are consistently overlooked. And that's why I'm presenting to you my new show Beyond the Threshold. I'm your host, Sidney Evans, an award-winning audio editor and producer, and on this show, I'm interviewing Black men and women working in the audio industry, highlighting the lessons and experiences it takes to achieve success in the field. In this first season, my guests share best practices on what has allowed them to craft their careers.
Melisa D. Monts:Ask for what you want, because I just called up schools and asked if I could work on their student films and they're like we don't really get people asking that, but sure.
Sidney Evans:The power of building and nurturing relationships.
Ashley Hobbs:One thing I can say about networking and building relationships and maintaining them is to develop a natural curiosity about other people. I'm genuinely interested in you as a person.
Sidney Evans:Developing multiple skill sets to increase your demand.
Jahi Whitehead:If you can only do one thing, you're not that useful. You have to be able to do multiple things to be useful, because I can find someone to do one thing and I don't have to pay them that much.
Sidney Evans:And how you stand out from the crowd, where you discover your unique perspective.
Kacie Luaders:I believe that everyone's individual perspective is so important. If you find a subject or a topic that, like everybody's already talking about, you just have to kind of like carve that space for yourself within a given topic or genre.
Sidney Evans:The goal is to build a platform that connects and supports those establishing audio by inspiring those looking to break into the industry. You can listen to season one, beginning August 18th, wherever you listen to podcasts or soundbysid. com forward slash podcast.
