This podcast contains graphic details which may be disturbing to some listeners. Listener discretion is advised. I'm Chantel B and welcome back to the show. Now this week's case is absolutely horrifying in every sense of the word. This episode discusses domestic violence and murder suicide. But there are some cases that are hard to tell because they feel too public and too private at the same time. Or the pain was hidden behind closed doors. There is some information that should stay behind closed doors. And this case is one of them. This case centers on two people who were in a toxic relationship that progressed into a toxic marriage. But when the ending came, everybody wanted to know the same question. How did it get this far? Sometimes the harder question is how many people saw the warning signs before it got there? What begins as a domestic disturbance call in a quiet Georgia neighborhood quickly turn into a murder suicide investigation that leaves more questions than answers. Before Zarya Carr was found unconscious in her home, before police began searching for her husband Shamarka's car, before her car was located miles away, before two families were left planning funerals. Before two children were left without their mother and father. There was a woman online saying she needed help. There was a woman trying to explain the weight of what she had been carrying. There was a woman who seemed tired in the way women get tired when love starts to feel like survival. There was a public argument, not a handled privately, but a Facebook Live and an audience that saw a domestic dispute unfolding in real time and people could hear the anger, the accusations, the humiliation, and the unraveling. But what makes this case so painful is that by the time it became a tragedy, it was more than a toxic relationship playing out on social media. It was a warning. And for Zarya Kar, that warning became her ending. This is the story of Zarya Khadijakar, a young mother, a social media TikTok creator known online as Duchess Dior. Zarya was also a woman whose final words online now read like a cry from someone who knew that danger was close. But this is also the story of the man who police say assaulted her, shot her, and then fled in her vehicle. And the most tragic part of this case is Shamarkiscar who died by suicide when law enforcement tried to stop him. This is not a love story. This is not a relationship drama. This is not content. This is what can happen when control, rage, public humiliation, public exposure, and violence collide. The last words of Zarya Kar are haunting. And you will hear some of that footage today. And the final moments of this couple's life were far more complicated than what first appeared. What investigators would later uncover was a pattern of allegations, conflict, and escalating tensions that played out not just in private, but in front of thousands watching online. When law enforcement pieced together the final timeline, they weren't just investigating a death. They had the task of reconstructing a relationship broadcast into public view where accusations of infidelity, threats, and control were openly displayed before the final moments off camera. But before we get into the gruesome details of this case, we must first honor the victim. Zaria Khadija Car was born in 1998. She was 27 years old. She was known publicly as a social media influencer under the name Duchess Dior. There is little to know publicly regarding her early life. Much of her background prior to her online identity remains unknown to the public. What we do know is that Zarya Carr was the mother of two children, and her and her husband, Shamarcus Carr, lived in Twin City, Georgia. Her role as a mother was a consistent part of her identity, both privately and within the content she often shared online. Zarya balanced her family life with her activities as a content creator. Now her content was centered around motherhood, lifestyle, and her relationship with her husband, Shamarcus. Zarya had accumulated more than 30,000 followers, and now her audience engaged with her content regularly. Her platform grew through consistent posting and personal updates. Her influence was built with visibility and direct engagement with her followers. This allowed her to maintain a stable online community because she presented aspects of their daily life in a way that connected with her audience and her openness contributed to the engagement that she received from her followers. Many of her followers viewed her as relatable and authentic in the way that she expressed her personal experiences. Shamarcus Carr was born in November 1988. His relationship with Zarya Carr was publicly acknowledged through her online content, and he was a part of the personal life that she occasionally shared with her audience. Shamarcus would often show up on some of the videos that she posted on social media. Now Shamarcus had a lengthy criminal history that began in early 2012. He was already connected to a mugshot from that period that shows him at age 23. But in that mugshot, he appears to have noticeably longer hair compared to his more recent photographs of him on social media. Now this early stage marked the beginning of a long pattern of repeated arrests and convictions that would follow him for years. Back on July 29th, 2012, at around 2 30 a.m., shots rang out at a club in Baxley where Shamarkis was attending. The sheriff's deputies and the Baxley police responded quickly to the scene after reports of gunfire. They discovered three individuals who had been shot, including Shamarkiscar. Now all three victims were then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment for their gunshot wounds. Following the hospital visit and the investigation, the police eventually arrested Shamarkiscar in connection with the incident. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, reckless conduct, and theft by receiving stolen property. He was also charged with discharging a firearm on or near a public road. Years later on January 10th, 2018, Shamarkus Car was again arrested. Now his criminal record continued to expand. And on September 13, 2020, he was arrested once again. This time he faced charges of possession with intent to distribute the marijuana and a possession with intent to distribute the math, which resulted in another conviction. Although the full sentencing details for each conviction are not clearly documented, his repeated serious charges suggest significant periods of incarceration. But it is widely presumable that Shamarkis spent a large portion of his years between 2012 and 2023 in and out of prison due to the nature of his arrest and his subsequent convictions. Some of those convictions were of domestic violence. On September 13, 2023, Shamarkis Carr was released from a halfway house. Now this release was tied to a prior conviction for aggravated assault. However, less than four months after returning home, he was arrested again. According to Georgia Law, this refers to a battery offense that involves a family or household member, and it can carry legal consequences. That includes protective orders. Now in this case, his wife was identified as the victim. His last recorded arrest occurred on February 2nd, 2025, when he was taken into custody and held in the Hancock County Jail. At this point in the timeline, Zarya Carr was unaware of the danger that would soon unfold in her life. On Saturday, june fourteenth, two thousand twenty five, Shamarcus Carr went live on Facebook. And in this Facebook live stream, Shamarkis tells his followers, who were all tuned in, that Zarya had allegedly contracted an STD. And he is telling the live audience how she contracted this STD. This exchange between Shamarkis and Zarya went on for more than two hours. And I am going to play the audio from that exchange. I do have to warn you, what you are about to hear is extremely graphic. Let's take a listen.

Zarya is talking to her followers regarding Shamarcus' claims, and she addresses cheating allegations. Now there's one name that comes up in this case. When Zarya brings up someone by the name of Uti, this sets Shamarkis off. And you can hear him in this live stream saying, You will die behind this. Then Zarya repeats what he says, but she asks, Why do I have to die behind this? And then the social media live stream goes blank. Let's take a listen.
SPEAKER_04You better go on with your live. I need to take a booty. That's what you're done. I got to die by that. You got a I got the dye by telling me. Give me a phone. That is crazy, y'all. I didn't want to die by this time.

SPEAKER_03Martin got cloud. Well, he at he right here, he getting mad because he don't like the truth coming out.
SPEAKER_01At around 9 30 p.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to the 100th block of Fifth Avenue in Twin City following a report of a domestic disturbance. The nature of the call prompted an urgent response, with officers treating the situation as a potentially dangerous situation. Officers from the Twin City Police Department and the Sheriff's Office and also EMS all responded to the scene. When they arrived, they found Zarya Carr inside the resident, said she was unconscious and in critical condition. The scene immediately shifted from a disturbance call to a life-threatening emergency. While EMTs attempted to assess and provide aid, Zarya Carr was later pronounced dead at the scene. The confirmation of her death marked the beginning of a major criminal investigation, with authorities securing the area beginning their initial investigation. Zarya Car died from a single gunshot wound to the head. What officers discovered was that Zarya's 2021 Dodge Challenger was missing from the residence. Now the absence of her vehicle raised immediate concern that the person who was involved in the incident fled to the scene. But at the same time, her husband Shamarka's car was also not present at the residence. Law enforcement quickly issued an alert for the missing vehicle, treating this as a key piece of evidence in the case. The search had expanded beyond Twin City. The police were on the hunt to track down the vehicle and to determine the connection to the incident. Less than two hours after Zarya was pronounced dead, her 2021 Dodge Challenger was located in Wayne County. Now the recovery of the vehicle became one of the earliest significant breakthroughs in the investigation. Now this provided police with a clearer direction. They worked to determine what happened inside the home. When deputies attempted to approach the Dodge Challenger, they discovered Shamarkiscar inside the vehicle and he was unresponsive at the scene. Shamarkis was then transported to a nearby hospital, but he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With both Zarya and Shamarkiscar deceased, the case was officially opened as a dual death homicide. Law enforcement agencies began working to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident, focusing on the timeline between the domestic disturbance and the discovery of the vehicle. As their investigation progressed, officers began examining the nature of the couple's relationship. Now evidence and statements reviewed during the early stages of the case suggested that their relationship was tumultuous, marked by repeated conflict, domestic violence, and an ongoing dispute. When investigators reviewed both the couple's social media activity, the Facebook live session that involved Zarya and Shamarkis. Now during the live broadcast, Shamarkis Carr made accusations that Zarya was unfaithful, while also claiming that she had placed a spell on him that negatively affected his finances. But in the same live broadcast, he also admitted that he had previously been unfaithful to her. During the live exchange, both Zarya and Shamarkis accused each other of cheating. The discussion reportedly escalated, with tensions increasing as the argument progressed in real time before both of their followers got to watch. Shemarkis stated that the behavior displayed was the kind that could result in someone being beat while he was seen holding a knife. He also made a statement saying, quote, if I get off this live, you ain't gonna make it out the door. This would indicate a further escalation in the conflict. When investigators later reviewed this footage as part of their effort to try to understand the final moments leading up to the incident and the dynamics of the relationship between Zarya and Shamarkiscar. Let's take a listen.
SPEAKER_02Security camera footage shows a vehicle leaving this house just minutes before authorities arrived. The food mart that I'm at currently, they say that vehicle was a Dodge Challenger. That's the same vehicle the GBI says Shamarcus Ross shot and killed himself in. An hour and a half after his wife, Zaria, had been found dead in their home. This security camera footage from Singh Food Mart across the street from the home shows a dark-colored Dodge Challenger leaving around 9 27 p.m. Authorities dispatched there three minutes after that. Nearly an hour and a half later, and over 60 miles away, Wayne County Sheriff's Office found Shamarcus' vehicle. The GBI saying he shot himself as authorities tried to pull him over, later dying from his injuries. Zaria was 27, Shamarcus was 36. Both lived in Twin City. Wayne County Sheriff Chuck Mosley confirming to me that Shamarcus's death was a suicide. While they investigated further, the GBI medical examiner is working on an autopsy for Zaria. In Twin City, AJ Sisson. WJCL 22 News.
SPEAKER_01Shamarcus Carr's death remain under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office as authorities work to officially determine the circumstances surrounding his final moments. But at the same time, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Medical Examiner's Office was assigned to complete a full autopsy on Zaryakar to establish the official cause of death. But as evident that continued to be processed, what investigators did was compile a witness statement, digital records and forensic findings to build a clearer timeline of events. The case was treated as an active case with both the deaths being reviewed together to understand how the situation escalated to this tragic point. On June 25th, 2025, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations released an official update in the case. And in that update, what investigators stated was that the findings showed that Zarya Carr had been physically assaulted prior to being shot and killed by her husband, Shamarcus. Now this development confirmed that the incident involved prior violence before the fatal shooting occurred. Following these findings, the police continued gathering additional evidence to complete the full case file. And once all those findings were compiled, the case was prepared to be forwarded to the district attorney's office for final review and for any potential legal determinations related to the case. But as the news of tragedy became public, it prompted an outpouring of grief from Zarya Kar's followers, friends, and loved ones. The case also sparked widespread discussion about recognizing warning signs of domestic abuse. Many conversations focus on the importance of identifying patterns of controlling behavior and escalating conflict and relationships, and especially those visible in public or online spaces. But in addition to this tragedy, renewed broader conversations about the risk of abusive relationships and how social media can sometimes document or reveal warning signs that might otherwise go unnoticed. The case was widely referenced in discussions about digital footprints and relationship dynamics that play out in public view. It was not only Zarya Carr and Shamar Marcus's death, but they left behind two young children without both parents following this incident. Members of the public expressed deep concern for the children's future and shared condolences across social media platforms. However, officials did not publicly disclose details regarding the children's long-term care in order to protect their privacy. This case has sparked difficult conversations nationwide regarding intimate partner violence, online transparency, and the reality that not everything shown publicly actually reflects the full danger happening behind closed doors. But it also raises questions about how early intervention awareness and support systems might change outcomes in situations like this. The public fallout over this case was that you have two people who are married and who are airing out their personal conflicts on social media. The case went viral and people started focusing on the video, the final argument, the last post, the relationship drama. People wanted to know what did she say? What did he say? Who cheated? Who embarrassed who? Who had the STD? But none of that would ever become the bigger truth. When people say toxic love, it can almost sound romantic, like passion, like intensity, like two people who just love too hard. Toxic love is not love that is too deep. Toxic love is love mixed with harm. Toxic love is love mixed with humiliation, love mixed with threats, love mixed with fear, love mixed with emotional exhaustion, and at some point we have to stop calling that love. This case has several elements that I want to talk about. But first, I want to talk about how someone can be in danger and people will still watch and people will still record. And I think we have become too comfortable with watching people unravel online. We've become too comfortable consuming crisis. We have become too comfortable treating domestic conflict like entertainment. And the truth is by the time a woman is publicly pleading, publicly arguing, publicly trying to be hurt, she may already be in a level of danger that most people don't even understand. Zarya's case forces us to ask, when does watching become participating? When does sharing become exploitation? When does I saw it online change to I should have called someone for help? And what do we do when a woman's cry for help is posted for viewers to see in plain sight? Zarya did not just disappear quietly. She left words. She said, Why do I have to die about this? And while the both of them were antagonizing each other, no one deserved to lose their life in this situation. And I say this with everything in me. If you know someone who is in this kind of dynamic, or if you are in this dynamic yourself, make a decision to walk away, call for help before it is too late. At the moment you grab your phone and you press record and you post all of your business on social media and your arguments and your fallouts may be the moment that it could be too late. Zarya Car and Shamarka should both be here raising their two children, but escalating tensions, social media presence, proving something to a social media. Audience, and what did it get them? You have a 27-year-old woman who is not here to raise her children, and then you have a father who took his own life because he realized he had gone too far. When I personally saw these videos, I was disgusted. And it hurt me to my heart to see two people who claim to love each other, who took a vow to love each other, press record and go back and forth on social media. And if you look at that video and you look at the comments, people are laughing and they're sending laughing emojis, and there was nothing funny about this situation. Someone should have called. Someone should have called for help. Toxic love is not love. And I don't care how much you love that person. If it gets to this point, someone has to have the wherewithal to say, I can't do this. This is not healthy for us. It's not healthy for the children. This is not a healthy environment. Now I can't speak to what was personally going on in their marriage with talks of infidelity, spells, and STDs, but what I clearly see is two people who have reached their limit. Zarya did not understand the danger she was in. And it's really sad that her husband, with their two children inside that home, drew a firearm and shot her dead. And then fled that home, leaving those children in that home with their dead mother. Fleeing in her vehicle. And when the vehicle is found, he has taken his own life. What a tragedy. There's nothing funny about what happened that day. There's nothing funny about it. Because when we look at the people that it impacts, you have two children who will grow up with neither a mother or a father. There will be no trial, no victim impact statements. All that is left is grief from two families and two children who have to carry the weight of what happened in that house. Those are the people who are left behind. Those are the lives that have been destroyed. When those children are adults, this case will still be engraved in their memory for the rest of their lives. Generations have been changed. Families have been changed. Holidays will never be the same. Birthdays will never be the same. Because the two most important people in these children's lives are gone. And that is the final verdict. My heart breaks for these children and the families. This should have never happened. I wish it would have never been broadcast for the world to see. Domestic violence is a huge issue. And it's not an issue of the past. It is a present-day epidemic that still happens. It happens to women and it happens to men. And we cannot stay silent when we see things like this. When you see fighting and people pull out their phone, call for help. People are quick to record, but never quick to call for help. My heart goes out to Zarya Kar's family and to Shamarkis' family, whose lives have forever been changed. Zarya Kar, may your sweet and beautiful soul forever rest in peace.
