You are at home with Kelly and Tiffany. I am Kelly. I'm Tiffany. And you are metaphorically speaking at home with us. Yeah. I mean, you're at home in your heart. You're at home in your body. You're at home. Maybe you're actually in your house. Yeah, maybe you are at home. We are in Tiffany's home. Here we are. That's where we are. And we are chatting about one of my favorite. Little habits for health today. All about red light therapy for, we're going to talk about women's health. It's great for men too, but we're a women's health podcast. I mean, we get, we get messages sometimes where ladies are like, can husbands do this as well? And we're like, yeah, probably. I don't know. I don't know stuff about man. No. I'm sure it's fine. I can Google it or something. Yeah, right there. They're Hardy creatures. They're fine. But we're going to chat about all the things, what it is, how it can benefit your lady life and all that good stuff. But first. I have a news story. Well, I want to, it's not like breaking news. It's a story on the internet, I guess. That a follower on Instagram sent me and was like, I want to hear your feedback on it. So then I was like, oh, this is really good. I want to bring it up on the podcast to get Tiffany's feedback on it. Okay. So. I don't know exactly when it happened, but it was at some point towards the end of last year and the 20, 23, this guy gets on an airplane. Right. He's walking up and then the flight attendants are like, oh, Actually you've been chosen for like an upgrade, right? So you get the bulkhead seats, like in an exit row. More space. They're flying to Asia. So it's like hours and hours of a flight. Right. So he gets out and he's like, this is the jam. Right. Cause you get more. You get more room. So he sits down. This guy sitting next to him, like has a big smile on his face. And, you know, he's like just getting into a seat, whatever, and the guy like leans over and he's like, Hey, so I'm flying with my pregnant wife. Who's a few aisles back and she's just really uncomfortable. Cause she's in, you know, like a regular seat. And she's just feeling like really cramped. Would you mind swapping with her so that I can sit with my wife who's pregnant. And he was like, no. No, I won't. And so he put it on Reddit, which is like a threat. I don't really understand what Reddit exactly is, but it's like a forum kind of thing where people can like respond to things. So he puts it on and he's like, am I a jerk for saying no? To this guy and everybody on there supported him. Everybody was like, you are not a jerk. And I thought it was like just such a fun. She was like, was he a jerk or was he not a jerk? And his response to it was super fascinating because he's well, so first jerk or not jerk so far. Well, this is complicated, right? He's not required to give up his seat. No, it's perfectly fine that the husband asked. Yes. But he's not required to give up his seat. It would've been nice if he did, like, that's just a common courtesy, like to have some compassion. The thing is, this was not this man seat to begin with. It was given to him. And he want a selfish little dude to be like, I'm holding onto this little gift that I've given, but you know, what could be easily missed here? Is that the husband was up in the nicer seat. Okay. Thank you. And sure they might want to sit together. That's cute. But the husband can give up his own freaking seat. Yes. So then he says no, and the guy asks him again, like at some point, Hey, she really would like to change. And he goes, Then you swap with her. I don't want to sit in that seat. If sh if you're so concerned about her change seats, and so the guy like shut up. And then the, you know, the guy who got the free upgrade falls asleep, wakes up pregnant woman next to him, and they say nothing to each other and the entire rest of the fight. It's pretty funny. But everybody on there was like, no, you're right. You shouldn't have given up that seat, you know, whatever. And so the, the person who sent it to me was like, oh, I think he was a jerk. Like I, in that moment I would have. You know, swap seats. And I was like, I don't, yeah, that's that's the good and right answer. But dang, that's like a 12 hour flight or something. And I don't know, man. Oh. So if I paid for that, see, I'd be like, I'm sorry, actually, like I intentionally used my resources to try to make this the most comfortable thing for me. And you didn't do that. Obviously the seat was available or I wouldn't have been able to upgrade into it. And you and you chose. The seating situation for yourself to choose this. Yeah, so we're, so we're the jerk is really the husband. In the whole, in the whole picture, if we have to say, if we have to label someone in jerk, you know? Yup. But both of them should be working together along with the entire plane in trying to support the underdog and the, the, the pregnant woman is always the underdog. Yep. She does not have all of her resources about her in order to. Yep. Good. Every, you know, like we should be taking care of people who. I don't want to S I don't want to sound like pregnant. People are disabled. But like, But they're added they're at somewhat of a disadvantage, just because of. Yes. Depending on so many different factors, right. But we should look upon a pregnant person the way we look upon other people that could use a little bit of extra support, a little bit of accommodation, a little bit of compassion. Yes, a hundred percent. But then I was thinking too, like, so this guy gets the upgrade. It wouldn't have like a, a flight attendants, seen the pregnant woman and been like, He looked like you need to look like why she didn't get the upgrade. I think there's a system to it. So it's not like I'm just looking around and like, you. I'm choosing, you know, I think it's either random or it's a point system or it's. Alphabetical or who knows? I'm sure there's a system for choosing who can, who gets upgraded. In fact, you can actually, I mean, buying plane tickets right now is, is the most confusing thing on the planet, especially international flights, because they all do it a little bit differently. And I would only know because I fly international sometimes. But you can actually pay extra money for a greater chance of getting upgraded. Gotcha. It's really, really crazy. Here's the question though. Well, I mean, I guess she moved up, so it is okay. Are pregnant women. Oh, I don't want to say aloud, but like the exit row you're supposed to like be in charge of the whole plane, if like I'm going to sure. Not. Pretty sure. They don't want elderly people. They don't want anyone. Who's handicapped children. Can't sit in an exit row. Yeah. So she probably wasn't even supposed to be up there in the first place, which maybe is why she, it wasn't offered to her. I don't know. Oh, interesting. Yeah. I'm pretty sure. I mean, you have to be, you have to extremely able bodied. You have to verbally agree during takeoff instructions that you will be responsible for helping people exit the plane. Yeah. And I'd be like, I can barely be responsible for myself. I'm not going to help other people jump off the plane. On this little floaty. Okay. Okay. Well, somebody is a jerk. Fascinating though. I don't know who it was. I just really enjoyed reading some of the feedback that he got and some of it was so negative against. Pregnant women where I was like, this society is just gone downhill. Fast. But I agree with your assessment. We are on the same page. Isn't that crazy? You don't have to listen or you don't have to agree, but you do have to listen to the rest of the episode. Yes, you do. And we can move along now. So before we start chatting about red light therapy, I wanted to throw a little nod to another like detox and lymph support. Option today, which is queen of Thrones. So they kind of take that idea of detox and limp support to the next level with these really cool castor oil packs. And so they were a huge part of this recent heavy metal detox that I did. Over use, like over my liver that I would put it almost nightly just because of what I was working through. But it's going to continue to be part of my rhythm. Now I used to. Make castor oil packs for my shoulder, shoulder surgery. I have a lot of scar tissue there. It helps break up some scar tissue as well, but I mean, I was using flannel and like saran wrap and it was messy and whatever. And so, jumped into queen of Thrones. They make it so. Stinking easy to do castor oil packs. They have all different. Pack options like you can, the liver one that I'm talking about, but there's also one specific for your thyroid for your pelvis, for your back, even over your breasts. They make a small one for kiddos as well. Which is super great for things like constipation and just supporting their system too. So. Yeah, we're all about making things like this. Like habit stacking and supportive. Things for your body just easy so that you actually do it instead of just think about it. So queen of Thrones has something really, honestly, I think for everyone's needs everyone's health issues. But if you go to shop dot queen of thrones.com/beautiful one midwifery, you can use the code beautiful one midwifery 10, and you get 10% off your orders of$59 or more. So there's a. Lincoln the show notes below to go there, but it's a. KU shop dot queen of thrones.com/beautiful and midwifery. Yeah. One of the things that we recommend routinely, besides just like the idea of detox and limp support with liver packs is doing some kind of pelvic pack for especially scar tissue remediation of a Syrian birth can be super helpful, especially as you prepare to be pregnant again or just dealing with some aspect of the recovery from a Syrian that you want a little bit of extra support in that area for so highly recommend. Yeah, it can help decrease like adhesions and things like that as well for that area and others as well. Like I said, I use it for my shoulder to get rid of some scar tissue. So if you have, you know, all. Surgery's wounds, discomforts, whatever they're great for focused support. I didn't realize that they had a thyroid one until I was looking through recently and buying something else from them. And I was like, oh, this is just so brilliant. Like such a great holistic part of. Supporting, whatever it is you have going on. Yeah. And it really, the, the variety that is offered there is just about the shape of the pack and it being able to fit nicely over whatever it is that you're treating. Some relatively simple, I mean, extremely simple, but they've just taken all of the brain work out of it and just made it really easy to pour castor oil on some cloth and tie it to your body and go to bed. Yeah, they like I was saying, I would make a huge mess when I was making them before. Just myself and I've been stunned at how easy it was just to keep it up as a rhythm because of how easy they make it. So that's my little plug. As we get into chatting about red light therapy. So. Red light non-invasive. I think sometimes when we talk about light kind of therapy, some people are thinking laser stuff, which is a bit more intense. And we'll kind of chat a little bit about that, but it can be used just simply the light frequency can be used for healing. Restoration on a bunch of different levels in our bodies. So. It involves having really low power red light wavelengths. Put directly through your skin. And it's not that you can, you can't feel that, right? Like it's not painful laser stuff going into your skin. It goes about eight to 10 millimeters into the skin, and then it's absorbed. Like from there. So it's low power because that energy density is low in comparison to all the other laser therapies, but there's a ton of really great peer reviewed research on it. That really shows a ton of benefits and supportive things. Of course like anything natural and holistic and whatever. I know that it is controversial in some circles, right? Yeah. I mean, if a pharmaceutical company developed a red light product, Then it wouldn't be controversial. It wouldn't be controversial. It would be perfectly normal and fine, and everyone would have one and insurance would cover it and yeah, but they won't know just a heads up. Sorry. But you recently got one as well. Yeah, it was on my list of, I mean, there's just a, there's just a, there's a long list of medical devices that you would like to have in your home one day in a fortunately you can't purchase them all at once. It turns out. Nope. No. And so over the past few years, I've just tried to sort through priorities and such. And so this one finally came up the nice thing about knowing kind of like what you're looking for and what you want. Is that allows you to take more time researching, talk to other people who have these products and then watch the really good. You know, manufacturers of these products for when they have sales and stuff. And so I finally grabbed one on red Friday, which this, this light company, black Friday, what I call it retro. Well, you know what I mean? Yeah. It wasn't, it was red. Friday for me. Let me tell you. They don't usually put their stuff on sale. And so they did. And I mean, I've been, I've been just thinking, I'm just going to have to pay full price for this sucker, but then they did, and I wasn't quite ready to buy it. But then when it was like$200 off, I was like, I want this. And I got it for my birthday, from my husband. You know, in a really roundabout way of me saying this is. I'm buying this right now for my birthday, from you. Happy birthday to me. I appreciate it. But it's actually been incredibly amazing. I mean, what I'm using it for right now is a little bit of skin and stuff that I'm dealing with. And as soon as I started using it is exactly the time that all of that started improving. I mean, I was doing, you know, I started doing some other stuff too. But I have. A routine in place that I am just completely in love with, to the fact like that. If I don't do red light during the day it feels. Like something's missing. That's a good place to feel like I use it all the time. So, I mean, I was kind of wondering like, am I going to set this light up somewhere and turn it on and just sit in front of it. The answer is yes, the answer's yes, I've used it. I've used it almost every single day since I got it back in. You know, at the beginning of December or something like that. Yeah. So you're using it for skin stuff. The reason that I bought mine, this was a few years ago was for mood support stuff. That was going on in our house. And I had just, I was not really like, Oh, my gosh, this is the one thing that I really wanted to buy, but I sort of was like what I was trying to grab onto something that like, what can I do from home that would support this situation and purchased it for that reason only really to discover after using it, how many more benefits it actually had. So we'll talk about mood stuff in a moment. But I use it. I use it nightly, just. Like for the vibe of right before I go to sleep and melatonin production, but I'll use it as well on my shoulder because sometimes it gets really tense or tight. And when I sit there and really focus the red light on my shoulder, I a hundred percent notice a difference. And so we'll chat about why that exactly is in a moment, but it's just so versatile. Yeah. And the benefits are astounding. So anybody who feels like, oh, it's kind of controversial, has not looked at the research because there has been. Hundreds of studies done on all of the ways that you can implement this in your life. And. You can get it for one thing, you know, kinda like I did, but I know that I'm going to use it for a hundred other things. Yeah, absolutely. And one of the articles I was reading about it though, was talking about how athletes use it a ton. Like it's a huge part of, you know, Major. I mean sports, whatever stuff. And there was talk for a while of banning it because it was so beneficial in terms of muscle recovery and all that kind of stuff.'cause they're like, oh, that's like an unfair advantage. And I'm like, that is so fascinating that it is, it's not obvious. Right? So clinical. So we mentioned you, it's literally the easiest thing. You're actually just sitting in front of it. There are different size panels. You've may seen like different ones and you can sit at certain distances as well, depending on what you're working on, what you're trying to like what exact benefit you're working on, but you just allow the light to do its job. And so. Because of the increased blood flow that, that red light causes it's going to benefit the entire system. Even if you're not necessarily doing like a point in treatment. Right, right. At my shoulder. Right. That's beneficial for that, but it's, it is absorbing and it is going around your body. So. It's going to bring oxygen nutrients around the cells. And that's just, that's basically the idea that it's going to heal so many systems in your body because it's basically energizing. What is going on. Underneath. So some benefits for your lady life. I mentioned. The mood stuff, right. It's been shown to help alleviate some symptoms of depression and anxiety, which is wild. So red light targets the mitochondria of the cells. And if we remember one thing from high school, That's the powerhouse. The cell, right. So it's going to stimulate some energy in the cell basically, and then that cell's going to be so amped up, Ray. That's like, I have so much energy and the outcome is basically that the system just revitalizes and then blood flow starts going to the brain in particular for this, you know, benefit or why it makes sense for this benefit. A ton more blood flow to the brain. And because of that, now your brain neuro-transmitters right. Dopamine serotonin. Are firing on all cysts, like, Firing on all cylinders. Yeah, that's it. Yeah, sure. Which in turn is then going to give you some improvement in mood of your mental focus of your mental energy in general motivation in general as well. And so. It's pretty incredible. They don't say like it is going to cure the thing. But it will. Absolutely support that system. Okay. So I know that you can use red light before bed to help you prepare for about time and sleep. And so that's how I started using it mostly just because that's your routine and rhythm. And so I'm like, I'm going to be like Kelly. But what I was noticing is is that it was a huge part of relaxation for me and sitting in front of it was making me very sleepy and calm. But as soon as it turns off it, I wake up. And sometimes I have a hard time getting back into that sleepy, sleepy space. Because you're like, cause your systems like that was nice. Yes. So the way that, and also I'm sitting really close to it because I'm trying to. He'll stuff on my skin. So, I started using it in the middle of the day. And I laid down in my bed. I prop it up, so it's really close to me. And within minutes I am in this dreamy. Little cat nap space. And so I set it for I'm like, I've worked up to like 30 minutes now. And for 30 minutes I'm like completely gone to this world, but I know I'm not fully asleep. I'm just, I don't even know what to call it. I think I, maybe I am, because I feel like I'm having dreams and stuff on. Laying there. And then it turns off and I wake up because it just turns off. And then I am like ready to go. It is like the greatest mid day break ever. Because you get to that point after lunch where you're like, oh, I'm just like, I need coffee or something. And then I go have my little red light nap and then I wake up and I'm ready to tackle the whole rest of the day. And it has been the greatest rhythm for that alone, which is not the reason I started using it. Yes. But that's the reason I keep using it is because it feels so good in the middle of the afternoon. Yeah. I feel like that's similar to, like, when we talk about our sauna bags, like, oh, that's just like. You get addicted to that feeling? Yeah, I wouldn't, I'll talk about sleep and just a little bit and how I use it for sleep, but we can keep going. Okay. So another benefit is pain. Red light therapy is great for pain relief because it's working underneath that pain to encourage healing and reduce inflammation. And so anybody who has ever had any kind of chronic pain, you know, that it is really difficult to like get to, to the root cause of it. And it seems like it's such a trial and error between doing things that might help it versus doing things that need to. You know, heal it. How much rest, how much work to give it, et cetera. But research shows that a decrease in muscle soreness after workouts with red light therapy, and there's even some research that people can work out longer before reaching muscle fatigue. If they're regularly using red light therapy, just because of how much more efficient your body becomes at that cell turnover and that cell recovery. So it can help with general body inflammation, arthritis, chronic pain, and it's not blocking pain. That's the way that we treat pain and our society in general. General as we're just trying to get rid of it or try to dull the sensation of it. But again, it's like actually improving the cell functionality that encourages the cell recovery. So it's actually repairing tissue. It's actually helping. To heal and break up and move that inflammation out. And it just takes a little bit of patience and time to kind of tweak that a little bit and figure out like how much time to spend and how close to have it. And You know, just, just a little bit of trial and error there, but a hundred percent recommend it for somebody who is having some kind of musculoskeletal skeletal inflammation on a regular basis. Yeah, we actually gotten my father-in-law to get this his Parkinson's and there's just a lot of like body muscle tensing and stuff like that that happens. And sometimes that's painful, but you know, starting to implement that now as a supportive piece. So it's, I mean, it's crazy. The options and offerings that what you can do to support your system in doing something so simple as literally sitting in front of a light, like that's just wild. Yeah. And I think maybe that's part of the controversy too, is people are like, come on. Another part of the controversy can become people really taking advantage of the market and trying to say that they have, you know, therapeutic grade lights when they actually don't. Yeah, for sure. So we mentioned sleep. So red light therapy can actually really improve the amount and just depth and quality of sleep. It's going to help reset your circadian rhythm a bit and just encourage that melatonin production, which is great for sleep like Tiffany was talking about. Right. That like idea of like, oh man, like this, the light itself is calming me. Usually in other spaces, it is very invigorating, right? Like same thing with that mood and all of that good stuff. So. Our bodies require exposure to natural light in order to regulate various biological systems. Right. We've talked about that in other podcasts episodes, but red light is a researched back way to like actually do so just from home. Right. So actually I nightlights, like for kids, I've seen a bunch of them coming on with red lights in them now, simply because they're not necessarily therapeutic red lights, but that is a very calming wavelength in general. So before bed, what, how I'm using my red light is simply turning it on, but not sitting close to it. So it's on sort of like a Like a background light. It would be like, that's what I read my book to and that sort of thing. So it's on and it's calming. And now even my ten-year-old will like want to climb in bed and it's like, this is just really nice to like sit in it, even though it's kind of a. The first time you put it on like that, you're kind of like, this is a little. Terrifying. But. If you're using it just for sleep, right. If you're just like, oh, I just want a nice little vibe before I go to sleep, you can swap out just light bulbs, right? Little bedside lamp kind of things. But for the part of healing underneath it. All right. Why are you not sleeping? Well, what's going on with your system? A red light panel would be the best option and you can utilize it somewhat similar to what Tiffany was talking about. Another point in the day. All of this is going to do is just help your system. Foundationally W perk up, wake up so that then it can start the rhythm of your circadian rhythm, your daily rhythm of being awake. Having energy supporting that piece so that when it comes time to sleep, you can fall asleep. Well, sleep deeply. Yes, absolutely. And then I'll talk a little bit more about some of the reasons that I bought the light, which is the benefit of hair and skin. And this comes down really to the collagen production that it promotes. And many women in particular notice a decrease in wrinkles and firmer skin. So you can even get red light that is like just for your face. And you just strap this weird little mask thing on your face. And. Glow on your face. I'm really tempted by those well, it's like, it's very convenient. Yes, because you don't have to like, really don't have to do anything. You just strap that thing on. Yep. And. Okay. I'll tell you the only reason I don't want to buy it. It's because I'm trying to be cool about how my face is aging. Yay. Yeah. Yes. So I feel like I got to think about that one a little bit. How much. It's not wrong. It's definitely not wrong. I just have a confliction about the energy that I'm going to spend. Trying to. Wind the clock back on some things. Yeah, a hundred percent, I suppose. That's like the heart of most of the things, right. Got to figure out what am I trying? Am I trying to support my body? Or am I trying to. Wipe some years off. Yep. Not bad. No, but like, can we do both? Can we have. What's the difference between me sitting as close as getting my face as close to this panel as possible. Even, even though I'm like working on a rash versus wrinkles, we're not, it's not. I don't know. I don't know. I have to, I have to spend some more time sitting with that. But if you get it, I will be judging you for sure. Yeah, of course. As, as you should. Yup. And you, and you will. Okay. So, most other laser type treatments for skin damage are meant to like send a message to your body to repair it. But red light therapy skips the damage part and only focuses on the repair. And so scars stretch marks, acne psoriasis. Rosie HSA. Those can all be treated with red light therapy. Red light is really stimulating to the system. So this encourages hair growth as well. There's masks, there's helmets specifically for these things, but even the panel can be beneficial and you can just find a way to set it up on your floor next to your bed or wherever we can just lay in front of it. I've been trying to do that with like some of the thinner spots at my temples. I'm like apparently still growing my hair back from postpartum 12 years ago. And knowing the benefits of hair read growth is awesome because I can use it for that too. And this is great for wound healing, tissue healing, burns injuries that are just solo to heal. I'm thinking of like, Anybody with like diabetic complications and circulation and stuff like that would be absolutely perfect. Yeah, there's a place. There's a good research on this. My brother-in-law works for a company that sells some like continuous glucose monitors and he was in town and we were just talking about health things anyway, but I was sharing. I was like, oh, have you seen this? And he was like, actually like our company has, like, we were talking about this recently and I was like, that's amazing. Cause it's like a pharmaceutical company, but I'm like, oh, you're recognizing, or at least seeing that your particular population, this diabetic population that you work with that there's real research showing how beneficial it is. Everybody can benefit from relay therapy. I'm believing in it. And we even have a story of Kelly coming to one of our client's houses postpartum once with, you know, her vagina out in front of the. Red light therapy as she came in, because she was letting that work on her laceration. Yes, she wanted to, she didn't need suturing after birth, but she did have a little bit of splitting happening and she was happily just errands and things out with that red light all up close. And it actually does help with hemorrhoids as well. And that similar kind of position, just getting close to it. Is sort of the the funny part of trying to sort that out, but. Yeah. I was like, oh, hi. I know that we've been through this before. I know. I know you and I know. Very very intimately, but it was a little. It just was a little shocking. When I came in the room, I was like, oh, We're doing this. Okay. Yeah. And just in general. Good funny stuff. Yup. Keeping it. Keeping it real. And then immune boosting as well. So red light therapy is going to stimulate that cell growth, energy proliferation of the cells. It's going to activate the lymph system, encourage liver healing. Like all of that, just revitalization that's happening underneath is only going to support all this like kind of multifaceted space. So all of that is going to help you fight infections while recover more quickly. And it's now actually being used in like some support for. For cancer treatments, like a lot of side effects that come along with certain treatments. The those side effects are decreased when undergoing a red light therapy along with kind of those harsh treatments. I was reading some research on like fibroids and tumors and all kinds of stuff. And so it makes sense when we understand. How much the red light really does like invigorate the cells. And then you can see. Oh, man, of course it's not just one targeted thing because nothing happens in our bodies in a vacuum. Right. It's all interconnected. So when you're doing something like this, it can only serve to a. You know, Support. Yes. And that's what we want. So hopefully we have shed a little light. For ya. Got it. That's red Friday for ya. And hopefully you just feel like you have maybe a little bit more of a grid for what red light really is. We really see just so many benefits for this kind of therapy. We see the impact on every single system, endocrine system, our hormones, our digestive system, immune system, all of it. And so, hopefully that just feels encouraging. So we know though, we kind of mentioned a little bit that choosing red lights can be a little confusing. That idea of like, there are a lot of options you don't want to get swindled, you don't, you know, whatever. So we actually have. A shop link in our bio or not in our bio, in our. Show notes, which are like a. Bio. Not really. That's fine. They're in our show notes. But you can click on that link. It's going to take you to not only some of our favorite red lights that are available right now. But also some of our favorites for like detox and lip support as well. We're going to chat more about that and like a few weeks and one of our episodes, but those will be there as well, just simply because that is. A huge support. For our systems. And we want that support for you ladies to yes. So there you go. Yay. I hope you bask in the. Glory of the red light information you just soaked up. And I want that for you as well. Great. Okay. See you next week. Bye.
