The Toastmaster's Experience

EP 31 - Fursey’s Story: From Principal to Speaking Coach Because Every Great Speech Deserves a Supporting Chair

Evelyn Calaunan

I had the pleasure of interviewing the fabulous Fursey Gotuaco.

Fursey joined Toastmasters in 2017 by accident after being invited to a meeting while in Shanghai, China. Since then, it has been a transformative experience for him. He is currently a member of two online advanced clubs and is dedicated to supporting Toastmasters clubs worldwide.

Toastmasters has provided Fursey with a global community and a platform to develop his speaking and leadership skills. He has competed in Toastmasters contests and made it to the finals at the World Championship of Public Speaking in Anaheim, where his memorable "Who’s in the Chair" speech left a strong impression. He emphasizes that speaking is about transitioning from “me to we,” connecting with the audience, and helping others grow.

His advice to aspiring Toastmasters? “The best time to join was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.”
