The busiest month of the year is also the most open for Evangelism, as the lights go up and schedules tighten in our Christianity journey. As we walk through Titus to find a resilient way of living that feels both ancient and fresh—truth that anchors, grace that trains, and good works that shine in ordinary places—we explore how ministry can transform quiet moments. We start with a personal story of surrender on a Christmas Day detour, along with biblical encouragement that beauty can bloom where plans fall apart. From there, we shift to Paul’s vision of leadership as character—faithfulness, self-control, hospitality, and integrity—because influence in God’s kingdom flows from who we are, not the titles we hold.

We dig into the “Life Together” heartbeat of chapter two: older men and women setting the pace, younger women and men finding sturdy footing, and Titus modeling a life worth imitating. The noise of modern life makes this countercultural: instead of hot takes (opinions without facts), we practice warm tables and lived mentorship through devotions and journal prompts that keep us grounded. Then we turn to the hinge of the letter—grace, not just forgiveness, but power that appears, saves, and tutors us to say no to what corrodes and yes to what makes us whole. That inner training turns into a visible witness: calm in long lines, perhaps enhanced by simple aromatherapy with essential oils, gentleness in tense rooms, and generosity in hidden moments.

Finally, we clear the fog around good works—they don’t purchase salvation; they express it through courtesy, honesty, and kindness as the natural fruit of a heart remade by mercy, especially in December when small acts speak loud for Evangelism. Along the way, we offer simple rhythms to stay grounded in Scripture, cultivate self-control, and live as people whose ordinary days preach a beautiful gospel without a stage or spotlight, drawing on biblical encouragement for your devotions.

Paula Behrens:

December is a unique month for Christians. It's beautiful and holy, yes, but it can also be rushed, stretched, distracted, and emotionally heavy. It's a time when people around us are more open to the gospel than usual, and at the same time, our hearts are often pulled in 20 different directions. So as we walk through Titus, keep in mind that this letter gives believers, including you and me, a blueprint for how to live beautifully, wisely, and purposefully in a world that desperately needs Jesus. By the time we're done, my hope is that you'll feel freshly equipped, freshly encouraged, and freshly aware that God can use you right in the middle of your everyday life to make a profound impact for His kingdom. And hey, I want you to stay with me all the way to the end because I've got a special invitation for you to come hang out with us in our Bible study circle. But first, let me take you back to a time when life taught me a profound lesson about finding beauty in the unexpected.

Paula Behrens:

You know, life can sometimes take unexpected turns, leading us to places we never imagined. In my very first appointment as a pastor, I faced such a moment when my two boys needed surgery. My youngest son was stepping up to give a kidney to his older brother. This unexpected event led me to ask that my appointment be shortened so that I could be by their side to support them. I planned to lead the Christmas Eve candlelight service, but on Christmas Day, I found myself undecorating the tree and loading the moving van with my parents. On our journey back to Houston, we encountered an unexpected twist. All the restaurants were closed. What we envisioned as an abundant Christmas celebration transformed into a simple stop at Jack in the Box for tacos. Yet, in this humble meal shared with family, God tenderly reminded me of the beauty of surrender, showing how joy and gratitude can be discovered even in the simplest of moments.

Paula Behrens:

Are you finding it difficult to figure out where God is leading you through the whirlwind of daily life? Perhaps, like me, you had moments of doubt, surprise encounters, and maybe even a bit of overwhelm along the way. Well, if that resonates with you and you're yearning for clarity, peace, and faith-focused encouragement, this podcast is for you.

Paula Behrens:

If you're listening today and you've been wondering how you can reach others for Christ, especially if you work from home or feel that your life is mostly quiet, tucked away behind the scenes, Titus is the book for you. You don't need a big stage, you don't need a special title, you don't need to be a polished speaker or a Bible expert. You just need grace flowing through your everyday life. Paul teaches Titus that the gospel spreads best through the beauty of a transformed heart. When you respond differently than the world expects, people notice. When you walk in peace, purity, humility, and love, people are drawn to Jesus who lives in you. You carry Christ with you to the grocery store, into your living room, onto your Zoom calls, and even into your holiday gatherings where dynamics might be, well, a little interesting. Titus shows us that ministry is not something you step into, it's something you live.

Paula Behrens:

Paul opens his letter with clarity and purpose, skipping the small talk. His focus is on a mission that's all about two things. First, the faith of God's people, and second, the Truth that leads to living a godly life. Paul highlights that truth and godliness go hand in hand. The truth of Jesus changes hearts, and the changed hearts lead to transformed lives. He urges Titus to appoint elders in every town on the island of Crete. The reason? These believers need strong godly leadership to navigate the cultural haze and spiritual uncertainty of their day. You see, in God's kingdom, leadership isn't about power or status, it's about character, steady, humble, and Christ-like.

Paula Behrens:

Paul paints a vivid picture of what leaders should embody, faithfulness, self-control, hospitality, patience, discipline, sound teaching, and freedom from greed. And here's the surprising thing. This isn't just about official church leadership. This is about you. Because whether or not you ever hold a title in the church, you lead someone. You influence someone. Someone is watching how you carry yourself. Someone is looking to you as an example of what Christ looks like in real time, real life, real stress. If you're a mom, you're leading. If you're married, you're leading. If you're single, you're still leading. If you work from home, you're still leading. If you volunteer, serve, encourage, pray, or simply show up consistently, you're leading. Paul is telling Titus and us that God is calling his people to live lives grounded in Truth so that others can see the beauty of the gospel shining through us.

Paula Behrens:

But Paul also warns Titus that some people will try to distort the gospel. Some will teach things that look spiritual but are actually destructive. Some will try to add rules to grace. Some will stir up division or lead others astray. Does that sound like anything happening today? Friends, we live in a world filled with noise, voices everywhere, influencers, experts, reels, opinions, arguments, trends, and claims of new revelations. And Paul's message to Titus echoes across centuries. Stay anchored to sound doctrine. Don't be swayed by every voice that sounds spiritual, but lacks the Truth found in God's Word. We cannot reach the world for Christ if we ourselves are drifting. Titus teaches us that spiritual stability is the foundation for spiritual influence.

Paula Behrens:

In chapter two, Paul gets very practical. He talks about older men, older women, younger women, younger men, and Titus himself. This is the "Life Together" chapter, the chapter that shows us what the church is supposed to look like when grace is working through an entire community. Paul instructs older men to be temperate, dignified, and sound in faith. He encourages older women to live reverently and to teach younger women not by scolding, but by mentoring, modeling, nurturing, and guiding. Oh, how we need this in today's church. Younger women are drowning in noise, social media pressure, comparison, busyness, mixed messages about womanhood, marriage, motherhood, identity, and calling. We need older women who will walk beside younger women and say, Let me show you what it looks like to follow Jesus in the middle of a busy, complicated life.

Paula Behrens:

Then Paul tells Titus to teach younger men to be self-controlled. That's it. One instruction. And if you've ever raised sons or taught young adults, you know why. Self-control is the gateway to every form of spiritual maturity. Then Paul speaks to servants, people working under authority. He tells them to work with integrity, honesty, and faithfulness so that their lives make the gospel attractive. Did you catch that? When you show up at work, whether you're working from home, caring for family, or serving in your job , with integrity and joy, your life becomes an invitation to Jesus. You may never preach a sermon, but every time you choose kindness, patience, honesty, and responsibility in your work, you are preaching a gospel that people can see. Paul says all of this so that the world will look at believers and say, There is something different about them, something beautiful, and that something is Christ.

Paula Behrens:

Now, before chapter two closes, we get one of the most important statements in the entire New Testament. Paul writes, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people. The Greek word Paul uses here for grace is charis (χάρις). It's a powerful word. Charis (χάρις), it describes God's unearned and undeserved kindness poured out freely because of his love. Charis (χάρις), grace, means even more than forgiveness. It means training. The grace of God doesn't just save us, it tutors us. It teaches us to say no to ungodliness and to say yes to the beauty of holiness.

Paula Behrens:

Charis (χάρις) is not passive, it is active, shaping, strengthening, guiding, and empowering. Grace is God's power working within you, helping you live differently than the world around you. When charis (χάρις) is at work in your life, people don't just hear about Jesus, they see him. And that is exactly what the book of Titus is all about. Grace appearing, grace transforming, grace empowering, grace radiating through your ordinary daily life until others are drawn to Christ through you.

Paula Behrens:

Now we turn to chapter three, where Paul addresses one of the most misunderstood topics in Christianity: good works. Paul is crystal clear. We are not saved by works. Salvation is entirely because of God's mercy, not our efforts. But once we are saved, good works become the natural overflow of grace, not forced, not pressured, not guilt driven, just the natural fruit of a heart changed by Jesus. Paul tells Titus to remind the believers to be ready for every good work, to show courtesy, to avoid slander, to live with gentleness, to treat everyone with kindness. Why? Because we once were lost, too, and grace saved us. Therefore, grace should shape how we treat others.

Paula Behrens:

One of the most powerful lines in Titus is when Paul says believers should devote themselves to good works because these things are excellent and profitable for people. In other words, good works bless everyone, the giver and the receiver. Think about your own life. You may think your efforts are small, a text message to encourage someone, a meal delivered, a prayer whispered, a note written, a smile offered, a scripture shared, a diffuser filling your home with a beautiful aroma while whispering a prayer asking God to fill the room with peace. You may think these are small things, but in in God's hand, small works done with a heart full of grace become powerful instruments in his kingdom. And this is especially true in December. The world is watching Christians more closely this month than any other. People are wondering if the Jesus we celebrate at Christmas is real, and whether he changes lives today or not. Your simple acts of grace, your patience in a long line, your kindness to someone who is stressed, your gentleness in a tense moment, your generosity to someone who's hurting, these things shine like Christmas lights in a dark world. Titus reminds us that our lives preach the gospel long before our words do.

Paula Behrens:

This month, as lights twinkle on houses and Christmas music fills the air, I want you to remember that you are not just preparing for a holiday. You are carrying the presence of Jesus into a world longing for hope. Titus gives you a simple rhythm of living. Stay grounded in the Truth, walk in grace, let your life shine through good works, model Christ in your character. Remember that you were saved by mercy and live as one who is transformed. This is how you reach others. This is how you influence people. This is how you live on purpose in Christ.
