Thinning of the Veil is a podcast by Tia Smith about how heaven communicates with us — personal revelation, dreams and visions, the ministering of angels, temple worship, and connection with loved ones on the other side of the veil. Each episode explores the doctrines, patterns, and real experiences of the thinning of the veil that comes as we engage in the gathering of Israel, so the heavens can be opened to you in greater degrees. New episodes every Tuesday.
What is the Thinning of the Veil podcast, and why did Tia Smith start it? In this very first episode, host Tia Smith introduces herself and the mission behind the show — a Latter-day Saint (LDS) podcast about the "thinning of the veil," the idea that the separation between us and the spirit world can grow thin as we take part in the gathering of Israel through temple and family history work. Tia shares who she is (a wife, a mother of six — four on this side of the veil and two on the other, a grandma called "Mimi," and a self-described private person with no formal degrees), and testifies that thinning-of-the-veil experiences are not reserved for general authorities, stake presidents, or bishops — because God is "no respecter of persons." She describes the prompting she received while praying in her garden — that the Lord needed her voice to testify of the gathering, and that modern technology would carry that testimony across the world — and how, like Nephi asked to build a boat, she stepped forward in faith to build this podcast. If you've ever wondered whether personal revelation and the ministering of those beyond the veil are available to ordinary members, this is where the journey begins.
Q: What is the Thinning of the Veil podcast about? A: It's a Latter-day Saint (LDS) podcast hosted by Tia Smith about the "thinning of the veil" — the truth that the separation between us and the spirit world can grow thin as we engage in the gathering of Israel through temple and family history work. Each episode teaches sourced doctrine and shares personal testimonies of revelation, angels, and experiences with loved ones on the other side of the veil.
Q: Do you need a special calling or a lot of education to have thinning-of-the-veil experiences? A: No — Tia testifies that God is "no respecter of persons," and that these experiences aren't limited to general authorities, stake presidents, or bishops. She shares that she has no formal degrees and considers herself an ordinary person, hoping listeners will see that revelation and the ministering of those beyond the veil are available to everyone.
Q: Why did Tia Smith start this podcast? A: Tia describes receiving a clear prompting while praying in her garden that the Lord needed her voice to testify of the gathering, and that modern technology would let that testimony reach people across the world. Though she calls herself private and not naturally comfortable with technology, she began in faith — comparing herself to Nephi being asked to build a boat.
Q: What topics does the podcast cover? A: Alongside personal thinning-of-the-veil testimonies, Tia teaches sourced doctrine on personal revelation, calling and election, the Millennium, the Resurrection, the Second Coming, and degrees of glory — all connected to the gathering of Israel and preparing for the Savior's return.▶️ WATCH & LISTEN 🎬 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thinningoftheveil 🌐 Website: https://www.thinningoftheveil.com 🎧 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thinning-of-the-veil/id1753511394 🟢 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6jWCfMHkZXwnSwy2b98J4M 🎵 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/a0a45561-d4c2-46d3-af8d-a1e967a21a25

Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Thinning of the Veil podcast. My name is Tia Smith, and I am your host for this podcast. Surprisingly, everyone that knows me is probably surprised that this is even happening. In general, I'm a pretty private person. I am super not good at technology. So being a private person and not good at technology, I have no idea why this is happening. So welcome to the ride that is this crazy ride that I'm on. I grew up in the 80s, just to help you understand where I'm at, I grew up in the 80s. And the hardest technology that we had to deal with was learning how to push play and record on a cassette tape player, especially if you're making a mixtape, right? Because if you're waiting for a song to play off the radio and that song comes on and you don't push them right at the same time, then you either have to wait a full 24 hours or you gotta call the radio station in to play it again. I mean, it was just kind of a nightmare. So here I am podcasting with all this equipment, and it has been a miracle that I am even remotely figuring out all the apps, all the programs, all the podcasting tools, all the mixers, like all of the things that are so foreign to me. And I would not be doing this uh for any other reason than the Lord has asked me. Um there is no production crew. It's just me, myself, and I. And my husband has been so great at trying to help me get all this stuff stuff set up, but I think he's getting exhausted because I'm just feeling like I was feeling like everything just needed to be perfect before I started. And I just realized that they're not gonna be, things will not be perfect, and I will get better as I go. So I've dis decided and realized that I just needed to start. So this is my first um episode, and what I wanted to do is tell you a little bit about myself. I want to be real. I hope that by being real with you, you can understand that I am not any kind of special person or uh like I don't, I am not one of those maybe people that you would assume would be having the Thinning of the Vale experiences because I think the assumption is this is just for general authorities or state presidents or bishops or relief society presidents. Um, so I hope by being real, you can understand that this is also available to you. So a little bit about myself. The most important thing for me is that I'm married to a really cool guy, and I am the mother of six children. Um four reside on this side of the veil, and two are on the other side of the veil. And I believe that kind of traumatic experience has opened up opportunities for me to have experiences from the other side of the veil with them and from them and with other people. Uh, I have three grandchildren and one on the way, and this little girl is going to even. I've got two boys, and then it will be two girls. And my grandma name, just so you all know, is Mimi. Uh, I felt like I was 45 at the time when I was made a when I was got to be a grandma. And I felt like because I was 45, granny was not suitable. So I changed. I asked specifically my daughter-in-law, um, that and told her, hey, can you can my can your kids call me Mimi? And graciously she uh agreed. So I am Mimi, and that is my most favoritist thing on this whole planet. They are just amazing, and it is such a special thing to be a grandma. And I uh am so grateful that I am able to have that experience. Uh, another fun fact about me is that I love the 80s. I think that it was the best day decade ever. Uh, some of you, in fact, probably a lot of you will disagree, but for me, I just love the 80s, and I love most of the music that comes from the 80s. Uh, it just is kind of brings joy to me when I'm uh, especially when I'm playing pickleball. I am a dabbler in pickleball, by the way. And it is a great exercise, but it's also great because I hang out with some fantastic people and they just accept me for who I am and all of the funny words that I say when I'm when I'm playing pickleball. Um a quick, interesting, maybe help for you, maybe I'm because I'm just trying to keep it real. If you're ever angry or struggling, uh what I do is I listen to separate ways by journey, and I get in my car and I go fast, and I may or may not go over the speed limit. I don't know, I'm not encouraging that, but I'm just saying if you're having a bad day and you want to feel better, listen to separate ways by journey, get in a car and just drive, and you'll be amazed at what it does. So that's another thing about me that most people don't know. Uh, another thing about me is that I love the color black. I mean, you can tell everything is black, my car is black, everything's black. I especially love black motorcycles. My favorite thing to do is to ride on a motorcycle. I mean, you're automatically in the coolest club ever, I believe. And my favorite place to go is through Yellowstone. It has uh deep meaning for me and holds a lot of memories. And so for me, just going through the park, you can smell it and feel it, and it's just an amazing experience. I live in northern Utah on an acre and a half. We originally moved here to be self-sufficient. We oh realized real quick that being self-sufficient is hard and it's a lot of it's a huge learning curve. We've got a huge garden, a root cellar, we've got chickens. My favorite chicken is Bernice, and she's my favorite because she's fun size like me, and she's uh she's black. She's got a color, all of her feathers are just jet black, and um, and she eats out of my hand. I'm her favorite human. So um we've got 40 fruit trees, and yes, generally that job falls to me to prune them, and some years I get to it, and some years I don't. Uh and we've got a little miniature black horse named Little Sebastian, and he is a little two and a half, but uh, and he's fun size, because everything has to be fun size on my hobby farm, I guess that's what you'd say, because I am fun size, and um animals that are bigger than me are just that's not cool. I don't want to get my face eaten off by a big goat. So everything at my farm is basically dwarf for a little. Um I also am an author, which is so weird to say. I don't even know how that happened. It's one of those you I will go and do it the things that the Lord has commanded me. I have no business writing a book. I don't have any degrees that qualify for me for writing or for doing a podcast. Um, I don't, I'm not educated, you would say. I mean, I'm educated in a lot of things, but I mean, I don't have any degrees hanging on my wall. And hopefully that will encourage you to understand that you can also have experiences with the thinning of the veil. You don't have to be um someone with a lot of education to be able to learn how to do these things. And I I've I've decided to start taking the Lord at his word when he says he's no respecter of persons. Uh, that is a true doctrine, and that means that everyone, regardless of their educational status, regardless of where they live, what their calling is, um, all of the things, that they can also have these experiences with the thinning of the veil. Um, this started in about 2010 for me. It was a crazy experience that kind of threw me into it at the time. I was not involved with temple work, I was not involved in the gathering, and I was not getting revelation. I didn't understand it. It was, it was like this weird, I just didn't get it. I wanted to get it, but I just didn't get it. And uh the Lord kind of put into my path an alma the younger experience, and I'm not kidding, and I will I'll I'll we'll talk about that in later podcasts, that really thrust me into this understanding of the thinning of the veil. And it is something that I hold sacred because uh I fear had that not happened, uh, it took repentance, it was there was a repentance process, and for which I'm eternally grateful for the savior um for allowing me to be able to come to this place and and have experiences in my life and um gain that knowledge and be able to be where I'm at. Um I'm just super, super grateful for the savior. I've had several callings in my life. Um, my favorite has been in a YSA stake. And uh for the last three years, that's what my husband and I have been doing. We were the stake family history specialists. He was the war, he was the stake leader, and I was the family history specialist. So we were working together. It was kind of a really cool experience because it felt like we were on a mission together because we were in the same boat at the same time, I guess you'd say. Um, and then I also got asked to teach Institute. Uh, the first semester was at the Utah State University Institute building, and then they're tearing that down and building a brand new one, which is going to be awesome. And so the last three semesters I taught at a local state center. Um, the class that I taught um in both the stake and the institute was the gathering of Israel class. And I mean, if you look that up technically, it's the introduction to family history, and I asked to change that because it conjures up like almost dead people, you know, doing the work and it's boring and it's just for people with gray hair, which I have. But um there's it's actually, I believe, more effective when when younger kids are doing it because they're just better at technology. Uh, and it was just an amazing experience to to experience it through their lens. Because before that, I'd been teaching for uh in various different callings and places, but this was just eye-opening to me about the ability of these young kids. Um I loved every second of it. It was just, it's seriously been the most awesomest calling in my life. And I grew and learned so much from it. Um in the beginning, when I was started to teach, I was a little bit nervous because um I felt like maybe I needed to start sharing some of these thinning of the bell experiences with my class members and my students. And I was in fear and I kind of wrestled with the Lord on for that for a while. Because I thought they're gonna think that I'm crazy. This, I don't, this is not gonna be received well, like all of the things, right? You catastrophize everything. And he told me very clearly to open your mouth. And there were three exclamation points behind that. And so I did, and the rest is history. And the amazing thing that happened was all the fears that I was worried about didn't actually happen. The opposite of that happened is that as I testified, my class members started immediately having revelatory experiences with the other side of the bell. And it was just a really cool opportunity for me to see the power of testimony. Um, there in my state, there's the State Relief Society president. She's a good friend. Her name is Jackie Freeman. She's just an amazing human. She was having to get together uh with um relief society presidents in the stake. And she invited me to come, and we were all sitting there, and she's like, let everyone know what's something about you that people don't know. And it was my turn, and I was kind of pondering because again, I'm a pretty, pretty private person. I didn't really know what to say. And she just got so excited. I was taking probably too long, and she blurts out, She sees dead people. And I was just like, Oh, this isn't gonna go over very well. They're gonna think that I'm crazy. The cool thing is that they kind of looked at me, looked at her, looked at me, and then they started smiling and they asked for more information. So I was able to testify in that scenario about the thinning of the veil. And it was um so cool to have people receive it the way that they received it instead of the opposite of that. And so it's stuck. Uh and I know since now that's not a correct thing to say that I see dead people. So now I say, um, I see people on the other side of the veil. Um, I guess that's more appropriate because I they're clearly not dead. Um, but it's just stuck, and it's I guess the stake joke. Unfortunately, we were released a couple weeks ago. Um, but I want to give a huge shout out to the Logan YSA Fourth Stake and all of the amazing human beings that I got to make friends with and I that I got to know, and also um the other leaders and the in the wards and the bishopricks and stuff. It was just so cool. But I need to brag on them a little bit. Um, and this will tell you the power of the spirit of Elijah. Um, we had several goals in the stake last year, and they killed it, and so we had to like re-up the goal, and eventually they ended up finding over 22,000 names and doing 9,000 ordinances in one year. And and a YSA year is truncated. They're coming and going all the time, they're on vacation, or they're just going places, and so it's never like a like a full year where you have all of them there. But I mean, I was just amazed at their ability to be able to do that and their excitement. You think about that, that is that is several stakes, more than several stakes on the other side of the bell in within one year that these kids were that they set out to do and that they created on the other side of the bell. And it was just such a cool experience um to be a part of that. Now I knew that the end was coming. Uh, and as I knew that it was coming, I thought, okay, and I'm the type of person that wants to know like what's next. I like to kind of be prepared. And I was kind of pondering and asking the Lord, praying and fasting about, you know, what's coming next, what should I do? I'd been presented with a couple choices and a few several choices that might be possibilities. And so I just kind of did the work, right? I studied it out and I was trying to figure it out. Uh, and I remember I was out in my garden. That seems to be a place that is revelation for me, and I immediately got a prompting to kneel down and pray. And that's not abnormal, but I always get worried about it because I have, you know, neighboring uh houses that back up to mine. And I think, well, they know me by now, so it is what it is. So I just knelt down and prayed, and I knew that revelation was coming. I felt like it was coming, and that's why I was asked to get down on my knees and start praying. And um, and this has to do the reason why I'm telling you this is because it has to do with why I'm sitting here today. Um, and the revelation that I heard from him, part, I'm just gonna relay part of it, is, and this is what he said to me. I need your voice to testify of the gathering. More of my sons and daughters need to hear your testimony of the savior's power and love for his children on the other side of the veil. Technology, which okay, up to that point it wasn't a big deal, right? Because that's what I've been doing for three years. I've been, I have been using my voice and testifying of the gathering to anyone and everyone that the Lord put in into my path. And and I'd been doing that actually for 10 years. So that to me, I was like, okay, that's manageable. I can do that. Um, and then he said this technology has been given that boundaries are not an issue for receiving testimony on the other side of the globe. And I immediately like I freaked out. I was like, technology, like that's not part of the deal. I just barely like figured out how to do Google Slides for my institute class. Like, this is kind of major. When you say technology, that's a problem. Um, and I immediately texted my friend, and this is what I texted quote just out in nature getting my yard done because she asked me what I was doing, just out in nature getting my yard under control, and received a terrifying injunction from the Lord that I really don't want to do. And honestly, um, you can tell that I was fit to be tied because I used the word injunction. Like, who uses that word? I don't even know. I don't even know if I used it correctly, but I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't want to do this. And I was in denial. And I thought, okay, well, maybe it means this. Or maybe like I was just trying to make it something else. Um, a couple weeks later, I went to my final institute class and we had decided to do a field trip for the last class. And we went to the Logan Temple and did an endowment session. And at the end, Darren felt prompted, um, very, very prompted, to um go to the prayer circle, which is not normal for him. Usually that's not a thing. It's not a really a regular occurrence for him. Um, and so we got up and I just thought, this is really cool because the session had been cool. I'm sitting there with a bunch of amazing people that I have been close to for the last two or three years teaching and testifying. And they've been teaching and testifying to me. And they're just, they were special people. And so it made the endowment session uh really, really uh poignant. And so when we got up in the prayer circle, I'm standing there with kids from my class, and uh the the brethren who says the prayer begins and he and he asks for the normal things he asks for um to help the youth, which is not a normal uh an abnormal thing when you're praying. I mean, clearly the youth need help, right? And so that's something common, and I thought, oh, that's kind of cool. But then he got choked up and he couldn't talk after he said that. And you the spirit was really, really strong, and you can tell that he was really, really feeling it, that this was a special ask for him, and then he followed that with their burden of the gathering of Israel, and I immediately like the spirit just shocked, it was just a shock, and I was crying because he didn't know that I was standing in a prayer circle with the youth that I had been helping with their burden of the gathering of Israel, and I knew that I wasn't done yet. It was like lightning striking me, and God made it very clear to me um that I was just gonna have to suck up suck it up and have faith in his word. And so I was trying to decide whether to write my book. Um, I was commanded a few years ago to write two books. The first one was Patterns of Revelation, which I which which I did. The second one was the thinning of the veil, and I'd kind of been working on it. Um, but this institute calling and YSA calling was keeping me so busy that it I wasn't uh writing consistently. Um and I thought, okay, well, maybe that's what he means, like technology, and um I again I was trying to make it something that uh that it wasn't. Um and so I started asking some of my YSA friends, the young single adults, uh how is how would it be most effective for you to learn about the gathering of Israel and 100% they said podcasts? And so here I am literally like Nephi, having no idea. How to do a podcast or how to build a boat. I guess the boat is the podcast in my life. I don't even know exactly what it's for. Um, I don't know how to do it, but I've learned in my life by now that revelation is rarely what I want to do. Generally, it's the opposite of that, and that I just need to move forward with faith. And that's what I've been doing. I've been trying to learn all of these things. My hope and prayer um is that this podcast will be a space where people can feel like they can share their experiences with the they'll being thin. Because I know it's scary. It's scary because you think people are gonna think you're crazy. Um, and now I just tell people when they have an experience, welcome to the crazy club. Um and I hope that by listening and learning together, that these doctrines and principles and and the testimonies that you feel will encourage you to seek your own thinning of the veil, the parting of the veil, opening of the heavens. Uh everything that I teach is sourced. All the doctrines and principles that we talk about, it's all sourced because that's important to me. I don't want to get off in the weeds, and that's sometimes an easy thing to do, with the exception of the personal testimonies that will be shared. Um, I hope to have guests on who I know of their personal experiences that will be willing to come and share because it's in the sharing that the experiences are multiplied and the faith is stronger in numbers, in the testifying of the numbers. I know that by doing this, it opens me up to the opinions of others. Um and I know that some people will disagree. And I, and I've been that's actually been one of my biggest worries is that I am pretty private and I'm going to be opening some special sacred experiences up for people to um disagree with. But in that same day in the garden where the Lord said, kneel down, and he gave me a revelation. Another part of the revelation he addressed for me was with my fear. And he said, Do not be afraid of the philosophies of men or their opinions. They do not amount to much in the eternities. So I have to move forward in faith. I have to trust the Lord when he says that. Um I hope that you will be patient with me as I try to navigate this new experience for me. It's not going to be perfect. And I think I'm going to get better. Hopefully, I'm going to get better as I go along. Uh, but most importantly, I hope that you start having a desire to know your family on the other side of the bell. I hope that you have a desire to be able to learn these doctrines and patterns that always work, and that you will have a testimony that God is no respecter of persons. Part of this doctrine, doctrine that we're going to be talking about are topics like personal revelation, calling and election, millennium, the resurrection, the second coming, glory, they're all intertwined with the gathering and with the thinning of the bell. So if you feel like this podcast will help you, please tune in. Um, I'm not sure how long this is gonna last. It's however long the Lord says it's gonna last. Um, but I hope to post uh once a week on that. If you feel like this podcast will help other people, please share it with other people because I on I don't know how to do that either. Um and I guess that's not my problem. That's the Lord's problem. But you out there are probably way better at that than I am. So please feel free to share if you feel like this will help someone that you know. Um and I'm not sure how this works, but if you subscribe or rate and review, like or comment like any of those things, which I've never done before, apparently that's supposed to help um make this podcast more visible. If you feel like you would like to do that, then I would much appreciate it. Uh, I am uh most importantly, I want to open this space up to everyone to share their experiences. So if you have an experience, please email me at T I A, so Tia at thinningveil.com. And thinning is with two ends for those of us who struggled in English. And um please share and know that when you're sharing, I understand how tenuous that might be for you. Um, but I am grateful to have the company of experiences that help move the preparation for the second coming of the savior along. I am grateful and waiting for his return. I'm grateful for his example and patterns in his own thinning of the veil. And I am grateful for the experiences that I've had for the life that I've lived, and I will share my experiences, my experiences, my my upbringing and experiences in my life, health and otherwise, have been abnormal to say the least. But I feel like it's in those extremities that I have found God and that the veil has been thin, and that those on the other side of the veil are keenly aware of me and pray for me all the time and are involved in my life. And that can be a thing for you as well. I testify of that. So please tune in for the next episode. Um, if all goes well, there will be another episode. Uh, until next time, my friends, we'll see ya.
