THINNING OF THE VEIL
Thinning of the Veil is a podcast by Tia Smith about how heaven communicates with us — personal revelation, dreams and visions, the ministering of angels, temple worship, and connection with loved ones on the other side of the veil. Each episode explores the doctrines, patterns, and real experiences of the thinning of the veil that comes as we engage in the gathering of Israel, so the heavens can be opened to you in greater degrees. New episodes every Tuesday.

How do angels communicate with us — and why do we say it's through the Holy Ghost, even when we sense a specific ancestor? In this LDS (Latter-day Saint) episode, Tia Smith answers a listener's question by teaching that angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost (2 Nephi 32:3), so their messages reach us spirit-to-spirit through that same medium — whether we hear a name, feel peace, or see with the eyes of our understanding. She walks through Moroni 7:29–32 (angels have not ceased to minister), Elder Dallin H. Oaks on how the Aaronic Priesthood and the sacrament open the door to angelic ministration (October 1998 General Conference), the Guide to the Scriptures on the two kinds of angels, and Parley P. Pratt's testimony at the laying of the Salt Lake Temple cornerstone that Elijah's keys opened communication between worlds. Woven throughout are real listener testimonies of ancestors prompting temple and family history work from the other side of the veil.
Q: How do angels communicate with us, according to LDS doctrine?
A: Latter-day Saint doctrine teaches that angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, so their words are the words of Christ delivered spirit-to-spirit through that medium (2 Nephi 32:3). This is why an experience can feel like a specific ancestor is present while still coming "through the Holy Ghost" — the Spirit is the channel by which angelic ministration reaches us.
Q: If I sense a deceased loved one giving me a name or a prompting, is it really them or the Holy Ghost?
A: In this episode Tia Smith explains it can be both: a real ancestor may be ministering, but the message is carried by the Holy Ghost, which is why we perceive it as feelings, words to the mind, or impressions rather than a face-to-face conversation. An Ensign article ("Angels We Have Heard," 2014) notes that what we perceive as the voice of the Spirit may itself be the result of angelic ministration.
Q: Have angels stopped ministering to people today?
A: No. Moroni teaches that angels have not ceased to minister and are subject to Christ, showing themselves to those of strong faith and a firm mind (Moroni 7:29–32). Tia adds that the main thing holding us back from recognizing them is unbelief, and that living our covenants opens the way for their ministry.
Q: What do the temple and the sacrament have to do with the ministering of angels?
A: Elder Dallin H. Oaks taught that through the Aaronic Priesthood ordinances of baptism and the sacrament we are cleansed and promised His Spirit — a promise that includes the ministering of angels, since angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost (October 1998 General Conference). Weekly, worthy partaking of the sacrament renews access to both the companionship of the Spirit and angelic ministration.

Now, some of the things that I take from that are first, that angels do speak, right? That is the introductory statement in this. Um, and the chapter before this, 2 Nephi 31, is also going through all of the principles and doctrines associated with the doctrine of Christ, but also included in that that we forget as individuals and collectively is that angels, first of all, do speak. We must remember and understand that it is by the power of the Holy Ghost that they speak to us. And it is because of our Savior Jesus Christ. So part of the doctrine of Christ is that angels can and should be speaking to us. That's clear in these verses. And that if it's not happening, one of the reasons why it's not happening is because of unbelief. Someone in the comment section. Now, I know I get a lot of comments and questions, but I felt like this might be one that people generally are wondering about. And so I thought that I would address it today. And that is if we have our ancestors coming to us, giving us names or asking to help them in many different ways, and we're visually seeing the person or experiencing the person and we know who it is. Why do we say that it's the Holy Ghost communicating that to us and not necessarily our ancestors personally? I know I've kind of wondered about it, but as I as I've studied the doctrine, it's become very, very clear how this mode of communication actually happens. And it was, and it's a good reminder for all of us when we're having these experiences to kind of know the processes of what's happening and through what power that we are having these very, very tender thinning of the villa experiences. I'm also going to add a couple stories in throughout the as I teach the doctrine today to point you to a, not only people are having experiences, different kinds of experiences with the Holy Ghost, with their ancestors, where I'm also going to let you know that these are coming from my Facebook Gathering of the Gatherers group. There are some wonderful stories and wonderful experiences that are happening in there. And what that generally is, is it's a community for everyone who has struggled with feeling odd or not sure about these experiences or whispering about them. This is a community and a safe space for you to share your experiences and have them celebrated and really have people put their input in on what they have also experienced. It is so remarkable to me what is actually happening behind the scenes. And I can't possibly physically get to every single story on the podcast. So this is another avenue for you to go and kind of explore how other people are experiencing revelatory uh thinning of the veil experiences from the other side. And then also it kind of gives you a little bit of encouragement that what you're experiencing is real. So I'm going to leave the link for that Facebook group in the description. And it's Facebook, it's a Facebook group, Gathering of the Gathers. And anyone and everyone can join. We just have to approve before they go in. That's how we kind of keep it a safe community. Um, and just please join us. It is such a wonderful place to hear about and experience the thinning of the veil in many different ways as we gather. Now you may notice it's fairly obvious that this is, you know, a day later than usual, but I gave forewarning ahead of time that I was going to have Rip meniscus tear reattachment surgery, which that happened about three weeks ago. Uh, it has been so interesting to me to, because I'm on crutches, have limited use of my hands, as that's my mode of transportation, and then no use of one of my legs. So you should see me going up and down the stairs uh to do laundry. Anyways, so everything just takes a lot longer, and I actually have to think about getting up out of a chair versus before I just didn't even think about it. So I was telling my husband today, I'm actually a little bit nervous about getting back on and doing a podcast because um it's just been such a mountain to climb for me the last three weeks. So it will continue to be, but as I get better, I think things might and might and should level out. So let's address, I want to kind of first talk about the question that was on YouTube. And this is what it said. I love this wonderful conversation, yet I am so curious about your statement that it isn't the person communicating with you directly, it's through the Holy Ghost. Is it not true, Heavenly Father can and frequently does send ancestors as angels with messages to help us, especially as angels to help us do their work? I am so confused why recently it seems the rhetoric is all this comes only through the Holy Ghost. When Scripture and Joseph Smith and Latter-day Prophets specifically tell of receiving messages from angelic beings, I would love to hear your thoughts, truly desires to understand, understand. So that's basically the question. Now, and that's a fair question. I think that when we describe our experiences, um we say the name of the person, like my father came to me, and this was the message that he brought. But something that we have have to understand when we're when we're talking about spirit-to-spirit communication, um, and is that the Holy Ghost is the medium by which all of these experiences happen. Uh, in 2 Nephi 32, verse 3 through 7, I'm going to read this really quickly, and I want you to think about kind of what it's saying. Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, wherefore they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ. For behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do. Verse 4. Whether now after I've spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them, it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock. Wherefore you are thought you are brought into the light, not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark. For behold, again I say unto you that if you will enter in by the way and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what you should do. Behold, this is interesting too, because we're talking about the power by which angels speak, we're talking about that it's through the Holy Ghost, and that those words are spoken through the power of Christ, through the medium of the Holy Ghost. And then in Second Nephi, Nephi says this: Behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and there will be no more doctrine given until after he shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh. And when he shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh, the things which he shall say unto you shall ye observe to do. And now I, Nephi, cannot say more, the spirit stoppeth mine utterance, and I am left to mourn because of the unbelief and the wickedness and the ignorance and the stiff-neckedness of men, for they will not search knowledge, nor understand great knowledge, when it is given unto them in plainness, even as plain as word can be. Now, some of the things that I take from that are first, that angels do speak, right? That is the introductory statement in this um, and the chapter before this, 2 Nephi 31, is also going through all of the principles and doctrines associated with the doctrine of Christ, but also included in that that we forget as individuals and collectively is that angels, first of all, do speak. We must remember and understand that it is by the power of the Holy Ghost that they speak to us, and it is because of our Savior Jesus Christ. So part of the doctrine of Christ is that angels can and should be speaking to us. That's clear in these verses. And that if it's not happening, one of the reasons why it's not happening is because of unbelief. We are ripe collectively in our ability to not believe that angels can speak to us and that they should be speaking to us. And I've talked about this many times before. Our levels of unbelief, where is it at? Sure, Nephi had an angel come to him. It's easy for him to testify of these things. Well, President Nelson, of course, he had angels come to him, him. He testified that they did. Two little girls on the other side of the Vell, right? And this happened to him over and over and over again. And then it starts, our unbelief level starts going down a little bit by little bit by little bit. And when it gets to us, we believe that we can't have those same experiences that everyone else does, and that others should not be having them as well. And we get uncomfortable if someone is having these experiences and testifying of them. And so we tend to shut them down or say that's not a part of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is ludicrous to me because it's everywhere in the scriptures and God is no respecter of persons. It's been encouraged to have these experiences, but we must remember the power by which we have them. Now, I'm going to read this quote by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland because I think it's a good reminder to kind of implement and understand the doctrine of how angels speak to us. He says, please know that your father in heaven loves you, and so does his only begotten son. When they speak to you, and they will, it will not be in the wind, nor in the earthquake, nor in the fire, but it will be with a voice still and small, a voice tender and kind. It will be with the tongue of angels. We talk about the tongue of angels all the time. And Jeffrey R. Holland is explaining here that it is not just the way that we hear angels through the Holy Ghost, but we also, that's how we experience the love of our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. And we talk about this all the time. I had this feeling, or I feel peace. Well, that's not Heavenly Father and the Savior coming to you in person, generally, speaking to you face to face. They are also using the Holy Ghost as the medium to let you know that you are loved, that you are seen, and that you are heard. And we accept that generally within our community. Of course, that's the way that it happens. And think about the way that we describe those interactions with the Holy Ghost. We hear things, we feel things, we have words come to our minds, we have all different kinds of experiences with the Spirit. So if that is the same way that our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ speak to us, then most assuredly it is the same way that angels communicate. And that's the cool thing, is that because the medium is the spirit, we can experience messages in many different ways and means versus talking to someone face to face. When I'm having a conversation with someone, a friend of mine, I may be able to um ascertain her feelings by the way that her body language is coming off. I may be able to understand what she's feeling because of the words that she's saying. But when you're talking about communication with the medium of the Holy Ghost through the power of our Savior Jesus Christ, those revelatory experiences become so much more than just a face-to-face. It becomes so much more than just a seeing and trying to understand what they're saying. It is an all-encompassing spiritual experience because they are speaking from their spirit to our spirit through the medium of the Holy Ghost. In an article in the Insign in 2014 called Angels We Have Heard, it says, because angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, it's possible that when we perceive the voice of the Spirit in our lives, it may be the result of angelic ministration. I thought that was so interesting. That when we are thinking we are feeling the spirit, maybe we are having this angelic ministration happening and we don't know it. He goes on, of course the Holy Ghost can and does speak directly to us and can dwell in our hearts. But it seems that angels always deliver their messages through the medium of the Spirit, whether they are unseen and speaking in a still small voice, or standing before our eyes and speaking with a voice of thunder. In fact, even the actual beholding of angels is a spiritual gift. How are we given spiritual gifts? It's through the mode and way of the Holy Ghost. So even that spiritual gift that's in the scriptures, so if it's in the scriptures, we should be experiencing it in our lives. The beholding of angels, it is because of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the Holy Ghost also has to be given to us in the form that we feel it through the medium of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is such an integral part of our revelatory experience. And I think we skip over that sometimes and just say, Well, my mother came to me, which is totally true. But it's through the Holy Ghost that all of this happens. And that there can be no greater gift that our Heavenly Father, with the exception of the Son, for sure, his say his Son Jesus Christ. But there could be no greater gift than the gift of the Holy Ghost, because then we can be taken out of our mortality in many different instances and experiences in our life and be given this heavenly communication with the eyes of our understanding and the opening of our ears through a spiritual way and communication that could not have happened otherwise had we not been given the gift of the Holy Ghost. Now, in October 1998 General Conference, Elder Oaks said this In general, the blessings of spiritual companionship and communication are only available to those who are clean. Through the Aaronic priesthood ordinances of baptism and the sacrament, we are cleansed of our sins and promised that if we keep our covenants, we will always have his spirit to be with us. I believe that promise not only refers to the Holy Ghost, but also to the ministering of angels. For angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, wherefore they speak the words of Christ. So it is that those who hold the Aaronic priesthood open the door for all church members who worthily partake of the sacrament to enjoy the companionship of the Spirit of the Lord and the ministering of angels. Every week, think about that. Every week we go to church and we partake of that holy ordinance, the sacrament. The Lord is actually giving us this gift where we can become clean, that the Spirit can be with us, that not only can we feel promptings from our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ, but that we can also feel more effectively those angelic ministrations that we are promised in our lifetime. And it is given to us by those sweet little boys that pass the sacrament and bless the sacrament. It's quite extraordinary that we that if they hold the keys of the ministering of angels, what does that look like, my friends? Should we not then experiencing that in real time in our lives? And it is not just for us to experience it and not be aware of it. The Holy Ghost can bring anything into our minds, including knowing when angels are ministering to us and our families in real time, or when they need us, or when we need protection. We do not have to be blind to those heavenly ministrations. And as we pray for eyes to see and ears to hear, and keep ourselves worthy, that we may have the companionship of the Holy Ghost in our lives, those ministrations will become more evident, more real, and we will understand more through that kind of communication than we ever have mortal to mortal here. Now I wanted to share one of the stories that was shared, and again, this is uh a sharing of different kinds and ways that the Holy Ghost helped to bring about this miracle and communicated from the other side of the veil what needed to happen. And this was given by Jenny Talcott. We are on a summer road trip and we are attending three temples during our travels. I had printed family name cards for the work we will be doing during our temple time. This morning, I woke up with the name Franklin distinctly in my mind. I opened my family search to see what I could find. Last week I had reserved the husband of my fourth cousin, John Franklin, um, of my fourth cousin, John Franklin, but I didn't print it out because I had other names that I felt needed to be done first. After some thought, I decided I was receiving the message, so the Holy Ghost is prompting, that he was ready and waiting for his work to be done. So I arrived with plenty of time to make sure I could print his name at the temple for my husband to do his endowment. While waiting for the session to begin and while waiting for the veil, I prayed that I would know if this was the quote Franklin I was supposed to look for. I was near the back of the room and was able to see my husband at the veil. Even though I was near the back of the room, it was a small temple, I could hear him say, John Franklin, at the appropriate time. As he said his name, the spirit manifested to me that this was indeed the Franklin that was requesting his work to be done. It was a reassuring experience that the veil is thin and our ancestors are eager for their work to be done. So in this scenario, Jenny had pulled out some cards that she was going to take. But the spirit prompted her about an ancestor, Franklin. And what I love about this experience is that she continually asked for clarification. Is this the Franklin that you were referring to that needs my help? And she was given that reassurance through the Holy Ghost for that member of her family on the other side of the veil needed and wanted their work done. And I think this wasn't a grand experience, right? Where all of these things happened, but it was a significant thing for John Franklin to be experiencing that day. Jenny listened and she shifted based on what she was told through the Holy Ghost for the ancestor that was desperately wanting it done that day. And the Lord allowed the medium of the Holy Ghost, as Jenny was worthy to hold that worthy to receive the Holy Ghost, she was able to receive those spiritual promptings that led her to helping fulfill the work of the Father in this particular instance. Now I kind of wanted to talk about angels. I've talked about these several times before, but I wanted to kind of revisit who these angelic ministrations can be coming from. Because I think sometimes we put them all in the same category, which they are, but there are several different types of angels, and it's good to remember and revisit those different kinds of angels. And this is in Guide to the Scriptures. There are two kinds of beings in heaven who are called angels, those who are spirits and those who have bodies of flesh and bone. Angels who are spirits have not yet obtained a body of flesh and bone, or they are spirits who once had a mortal body and are awaiting resurrection. Okay. So when we're talking about angels, there are there are angels that have spirits. And I thought that this isn't this is interesting. Let me read this again. There are angels who are spirits who have not yet obtained a body of flesh and bone. So when we're talking about the ministering of angels, it can be from those who have not even been born on the earth yet. Or there are people who have died that we have known personally here on this side of the veil, but haven't yet been resurrected. Those are the types of spiritual spirit beings or angels. Then you also have angels who have bodies of flesh and bone who have either been resurrected from the dead or translated. Okay, so again, the difference between those kinds of angels are that if they have flesh and bones, either they've been resurrected or they're in the state of translation. And remember, my friends, the importance of translation, especially angelic translation, is because they are still mortal. They have not yet passed that barrier, gone through the doors of death. Why is that important in the gathering of Israel? Because only those who are mortal can continue to do the work of the Lord in the temple on this side of the veil. After you're resurrected, you cannot do that anymore. That's the important importance of translation. I've talked about this a little bit, well, a lot about Enoch and the importance of his city and what's coming. I'm actually going to be talking about the millennium in the next couple things, trying to rearrange my schedule to figure out how to make that work. But I'm going to be talking about the work of the millennium, who's going to be helping us in the millennium, what each section of people are going to be in charge of. And those who are translated, remember, again, are angels who can still visit you. So are the resurrected beings. But those angels who are translated are mortals. So those are the different kinds of angels who can come and minister to you. And I think it's wonderful. How do they minister and through what power? Through the power of Christ and the medium of the Holy Ghost. So we should be having these kinds of experiences from beyond the veil with different spirit angels and angels who are embodied. Joseph Smith said this: if you live up to your privileges, the angels cannot be restrained. Now that's basically kept under control from being your associates. So you literally, if you are keeping your covenants and living up to those principles and doctrines that we have been taught, walking firmly, holding on to the iron rod on that covenant path, the angels can literally not be restrained. It's like the brother of Jared, the veil could not not part from him. Angels cannot be not be in your sphere of influence if you're on the covenant path. You say, well, that's all fine and dandy. I believe that. But how do you know? This isn't just a guesswork doctrine. Well, I believe angels are around me. I'm sure they are. Well, I want to know when they're around me. If the Lord will allow me to see that, then I want to be in a position where I can have the veil parted in parts and pieces and actually have my eyes opened and my ears opened, because that is the gift of the Spirit, the beholding of angels that anyone can qualify for. And what is holding us back? Our unbelief. Period. I wanted to talk a little bit about what an associate actually means, remember? Because they cannot be restrained from being, listen, as the transitive verb for associate, it's to join as a partner, friend, or companion, to join or connect together or combine. So literally, the angels cannot be withheld from from connecting with us, from combining with us in the work of the Father, and being our partner and friend and companion. It also says an associate is to bring together or into relationship any one of various intangible ways, as in memory or imagination. So your mind single to the glory of God forms the relationship. As an intransitive verb, associate or associate means to combine or join with other parts, unite. Sounds just a little bit like Zion to me. And all we have to do is have our feet firmly planted on the covenant path. Attending the temple, doing family history work. It's in the uniting of priesthood power on both sides of the valve that you will feel their influence in your life more than at any other time. For that is the work of angels. If we participate in the work of angels, then we also then qualify for angels to be ministering to us to help us get that work done. As a noun, associate means partner, colleague, companion, or comrade. We think not just about our friends and family on this side of the veil as our companions and colleagues and partners, but we have generations, untold generations on the other side of the veil that are our partners and our colleagues and our companions. And as an adjective, associate means closely connected, as in function or office with another, sharing in responsibility or authority, and closely related, especially in the mind. I love those. Because when you think about the angels not being able to be restrained from being closely connected to us in our function, which is bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man, we share in those responsibilities and we share the same authority. The promise is that should be evident in your life, and you should be having experiences that also point you to that you are actually being given that gift because we are closely related. I love those definitions. Now I'm going to read another story given by Nate Sizemore. And I love the way he writes. Take a notion and the name under the moss. He writes, I'm visiting mom in Kentucky, Cumberland Gap, Virginia sits a few miles away. The same gap Uncle Daniel strolled through when the Shawnee still called this their hunting ground, but that's a story for another time. Mom's in a wheelchair now, and leaving the house is a rare privilege. She suddenly, quote, took a notion, unquote, to go to Iola, Kentucky to see old friends. I drove mom and my sister 33 plus miles, getting lost along the way, passing through hauler after hauler. GPS doesn't serve us well these parts, just ask Daniel Boone, until we got to her friend's place. We stayed a short spell and set off for the house. On the way back, I quote, took a notion, unquote. I hope you're understanding that these are promptings, to stop at a cemetery on the way back. Paul and Birdie Hodges have been on my mind these past few days. Paul ordained me a priest, and he and Birdie nourished my testimony through every milestone of my youth. I wanted so much to see their graves. I can't see them, so why not? I passed the cemetery, turned around, and drove in. Something, however, did not look right. These names were from Eastern Europe. I knew many such people worked in the coal mines here. By the way, I'm if you're not if you're only listening right now, I am posting pictures that kind of show what he saw in the cemetery. So if you if you want to see, go to YouTube so that you can see them. So let me start again. I passed the cemetery, turned around, and drove in. Something, however, did not look right. These names were from Eastern Europe. I knew many such people worked in the coal mines here. This is an old coal camp cemetery, I said. I doubt Paul and Bertie are buried here. I randomly snapped a few pictures with my phone. One is for Edward Kolosa and his mother, Antonia Slowik. Edward died at 22. I'm guessing in a mining accident, all too common. I easily found them in family search. The software doesn't allow me to see or know anything about their work due to a lack of relationship. However, Edward's sister, Juanita, married John Daly, my sixth cousin, three times removed. None of her work has been done. I have a couple female names to baptize, so I reserved Juanita and will take it with me. I also feel like I should continue searching on this Kolosa Slovak line from Osijek, Poland. Isn't it amazing how we just quote, well, he didn't say quote, but I'm quoting, happen, to stumble across names to take to the house of the Lord. I drove up and down these hills and haulers, lost as can be, and find stuff all over the place. I mean, really, they are just there for the picking, like the blackberries on mom's bushes. Sister Tia continues to preach. There are no coincidences. I'm not sure anyone else's involves dirt roads, haulers, and cemeteries next to the poor fork river, but today mine did. Let's all thank our Heavenly Father for the privilege of helping in his work. So that was another story related to in the group of The Gathering of the Gathers by my dear friend Nate Sizemore. And I thought it was interesting that it began with this pressing upon his mind with his two friends that he had grown up with that had influenced his life, Paul and Birdie Hodges. Who knows? Maybe they were the ones on the other side of the veil teaching this particular couple that needed to be found in this particular cemetery that he just happened to drive into and just happened to take a couple pictures of headstones that actually turned out to be an eventual uh relation to him and needing their work done. All of this was orchestrated through the medium of the Holy Ghost by the power of Jesus Christ from the angelic ministrations on those on the other side of the veil. It's truly remarkable, and we will see that evident, that angelic ministration over and over and over again in the work of the gathering. Now let's look at Moroni 7:29. It says, And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased. Behold, I say unto you, nay, neither have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men. For behold, they are subject unto him. That is crucial. Have angels ceased? Moroni answers the question, No, they have not. For they are subject unto the Savior Jesus Christ. For what reason? To minister according to the word of his command, showing themselves, okay, so that is literally possible, unto them of strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness, again, walking that covenant path with the belief that angels can be commanded to show themselves to us and minister to us. Now, why in verse 31, and the office of their ministry, so this is their calling, this is the literal calling of every angel that chooses on the other side of the veil, is to call men unto repentance and to fulfill and to do the work of the covenants of the Father, which he hath made into the children of men. So that's that's the office, that's the calling of angels, to call men into repentance and to fulfill the work of the covenants of the Father. How do you do that? By finding them and taking them to the temple, either on this side of the veil or the other side of the veil. And when you think about the angels who are on the other side of the veil, you it's Joseph Smith, it's Nephi, it's all of those angels in whatever form, whether it's spirit or fully embodied, what is their the office of their calling on that side of the veil? To call men into repentance. So they go on missions on that side of the veil to call men, teach them the gospel, and to fulfill the work of the covenants. But that's where things get stuck. Let's say Joseph Smith has taught someone the gospel of Jesus Christ and they have accepted and they want to move on. How do they move on when only a mortal can do it? It is because of the grace of our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ that he allows these ministering angels to show themselves in and prompt us in many different ways, feelings, showing, hearing for what? That that person may be able to move on along the covenant path. Let's see, which he hath made unto the children of men to prepare the way among the children of men by declaring the word of Christ unto the children vessels, chosen vessels of the Lord, that they may be bear testimony of him. 32. And by so doing the Lord prepareth the way that the residue of men, who's the residue of men? All of those who have not heard the gospel on both sides of the veil. This is part of the preparing the way that was set forth in the beginning, that angels would minister from the other side of the veil and from this side of the veil, to make sure that men would have faith in Christ, and that the Holy Ghost may have place in their hearts according to the power thereof. And after this manner bringeth to pass the Father the covenants which he hath made unto the children of men. There it is again the covenants that he hath made unto them. Think about what is happening. As we go to the temple in the baptistry, and they get baptized, and then get given the gift of the Holy Ghost, suddenly they have the ability and power to be able to communicate through that way to those of us yet living. That is quite extraordinary to think about that every time that you go into the baptistry and you see these 11 plus plus plus plus years go into there, they are literally given that gift to that person on the other side of the veil that they may also experience the ministering of angels. That they too may possibly become an angel that can also minister to us on this side of the veil. Now, in thus, let's look in 31 again. The office of their ministry is to call men into repentance and to fulfill and to do the work of the covenants of the Father, which he hath made unto the children of men, to prepare the way among the children of men. What is the work of the Father? There is a hint. Moses 1 39. For this is my work and my glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. What are covenants for? Because keeping our covenants is essential to our happiness now and to eventually receiving eternal life. See that tie into Moses 31, Moses 1.39. It is important to understand that we have promised our Heavenly Father. So that's the importance of the covenant is that if we do not covenant, we do not attain to eternal life. Therefore, we do not end up living with our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. Our heavenly parents are watching and waiting and urging us and preparing the way through angelic ministrations that we can receive not only for ourselves, but all of our ancestors can have that. And it's through these spiritual gifts, through the Holy Ghost, the medium that allows us to hear from them, to know how to move the work of the covenants of the fathers through our own generations. Now I'm going to read another story that was in the gathering of the gatherers, and this is from Shannon Allred Cox. She writes, Yesterday I had one of those family history experiences where you stop and think, Wait, what? Are you serious right now? There is no way. I have had many of those, my friends, and I'm sure many of you listening have had many of those. She writes, on Wednesday, July 29th, just a couple days ago, we visited several churches in York where my ancestors were christened, married, or worshipped. I've had opportunities to visit ancestral places before, and this time I paid close attention to how I felt. Everything was interesting and enjoyable, but I didn't feel much in my soul until we arrived at St. Olave's Church. My fourth great-grandfather, John Ruler, was christened there in 1766 and grew up attending that little church. It wasn't an overwhelming feeling, but something quietly stirred inside me. I remember thinking, there's something here. So Shannon is being prompted through the Holy Ghost that there is more here in this cemetery that needs to be looked at. That there are going to be certain experiences that she needs to have there. And this is all happening through the feelings of the Holy Ghost, through angelic ministrations coming from the other side of the veil. She writes, afterward, we wandered through the old cemetery behind the church. Most of the gravestones were weathered, broken, or impossible to read. I wasn't researching. I was just slowly walking and taking in the history. Jason, who had been incredibly patient all day, smiled and asked, somewhat impatient, are you going to spend much more time taking pictures of random graves? I laughed and said, Well, maybe not completely random. The stone I was photographing at that moment belonged to Richard Nicholson and his wife Sarah. Again, there's pictures for these, my friends. So if you want to see them, join me on YouTube. My fourth great-grandmother, married to John Ruler, was a Nicholson. And although I didn't recognize their names, I hadn't done much research on that branch of the family. If my family member who attended this church married a Nicholson, and there are Nicholsons in the cemetery, maybe we were connected. I snapped a photo and we moved on. Two days later, while we were on a long train ride up to Scotland, I decided to look more closely at that photograph. I then found Richard Nicholson on family search almost immediately. His work and his wife's work had already been completed. Well, that's nice, I thought. I uploaded the photo to their memories. I was about to put my phone away when I felt impressed to keep looking. Richard's parents weren't listed. Maybe I should try to find them and see if there really is a connection. So again, the spirit is quietly moving her, prompting her to the next thing and the next thing, because angels are literally on the other side of the well, wanting this particular moment in eternity to happen. And she is um the worker that God has asked to participate in this through help from the Holy Ghost and those on the other side of the veil. She writes, I spent the next good while researching and did indeed discover that Richard is my fourth great-grandma's cousin or great-grandpa's cousin. Sarah's maiden name wasn't listed, so I searched for their marriage record. There it was, Sarah Kempley. Then I searched for her christening record. When I found it, my heart nearly stopped. The record listed her birth date, July 31st, 1770. It was July 31st. It was her birthday. I just sat there thinking, okay, that be can't be a coincidence. Then another thought came. If today is her birthday, what would a mother want? Over the past few years, I've come to recognize a pattern in the experiences Heavenly Father has given me. I jokingly think of it as belonging to the unofficial club of. Mothers helping mothers find their lost babies on both sides of the veil. Many of us, as mothers, feel that pull to find those lost babies. She continues, so I started looking. When I located the original handwritten birth record, I discovered something that wasn't in Family Search. Henry was a twin. His twin brother, Thomas, also died the day after his christening. Henry had been sealed to his parents. Thomas had not. The following year, another little boy, was born and named Thomas. He only lived six months. He had not been sealed either. Then I found John, born in 1806. He lived, grew up, and had been sealed to his parents. But in 1807, another baby boy was born, and once again they named him Thomas. He too died in infancy. He too had never been sealed. Sarah had ten children, seven had been sealed, three little boys, all named Thomas, each loved, each mourned, each lost in infancy, were still waiting. Now I can take all three of them to the temple and to be sealed to their parents. By then I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Finding these little ones always fills me with joy, but it was more than that. There is power in this work, there is connection in this work. About 18 months ago, I was having one of those mornings when my heart ached for some of my own children who seemed to be quite lost. I woke early and preparing to go to the temple to do ceilings before my shift, but I was fighting back tears. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and saying, Don't cry. Just focus on the mothers you're going to help today. Then I heard a voice I recognized as belonging to my dear ancestor and friend, Anna. She said so clearly, Do you think for one second that we will not all unite our power to bring your babies back to you? That moment changed me. It didn't erase every worry, but it filled me with hope, peace, and patience that have stayed with me ever since. I don't help find ancestors missing children because I expect something in return. But every time I do, I'm reminded that this work is never one-sided. There is a sisterhood that spans the veil. I'm going to repeat that again. There is a sisterhood that spans the veil. As I fight for them, they are fighting for me. So as I promised Sarah Kempley that I would take her three little Thomases to the temple as soon as I return home from Scotland, I again felt that familiar peace. I felt certain that Sarah would be helping my own children in ways I cannot. And the most tender thing about all of this, the day I discovered all of this, July 31st, Sarah Kempley's birthday was also my birthday. That evening, as we arrived in St. Andrews, a brilliant rainbow stretched across the sky. To me, it felt like a quiet gift from heaven. I hope that in this story, you're understanding that as we are angels and minister to those who need our help on the other side of the veil, that they in return also minister back to us in ways that we cannot help ourselves on this side of the veil and our families. We are helping them do things that they cannot do here, and they will help us do things that we cannot do here ourselves. And that angelic ministration from her dear friend Anna on the other side of the veil reminded her of that work that spans the veil. Priesthood power has no veil, my friends. And because of the promptings of the Holy Ghost leading her into this church, taking a picture of a headstone that she wasn't even sure was connected to her. This mother, Sarah, found her three little boys. What joy filled their hearts, and what joy can fill our hearts as we help to make every covenant available to our father's children. Now I wanted to read one last um story by Sariah Harrison. She writes, This past Sunday morning, someone from the other side of the veil woke me shortly before 6 a.m. I could sense their presence. Believing that they came because they needed help, I asked them what their name was. The name that came to my mind was Grace Birmingham. Her name kept repeating in my mind until I got out of bed and wrote it down. I looked her up in family search and found a Grace Birmingham, I was related to, who had not yet had the opportunity to be offered power in the house of the Lord. She had four siblings in the same boat. Looking at the birth dates of her siblings, I had the thought that someone could be missing because there was a gap between the birth year of one sibling and the next. So I started searching census records and found one of her sisters that was not yet in family search. I added her in and reserved all of the siblings to take to the house of the Lord. On my way over to the temple to be baptized for the Birmingham siblings today, I realized that because there were a few Birmingham boys, I could be baptized for more females than I currently had. So I asked while driving to the temple who else needed me? Who else was ready to be baptized? The name Paul Anderson came to mind. I looked him up when I got to the temple and found a few more boys and one more girl who needed to be baptized. I now had four females to be baptized for. On my way into the temple, I noticed a temple prayer roll slip in my bag with the name James Walker on it. I had received his name a few weeks ago while serving in the house of the Lord and was reminded of that experience. While I was walking up to my ceiling session, I literally felt stopped in my tracks and was told to turn around and go record some names on the prayer roll. I thought, well, that was interesting. I usually do that on my way out of the temple. But that's not a problem. I can do it right now. So I turned around and grabbed a slip to record some names. As I was recording names of people I was praying for on this side of the veil, the name James Walker came to my mind to write next. I thought, I don't know a James Walker. And then in response, the thought came. That's right. It's the name of someone on the other side of the veil who needs your help. I had recorded it and put it in my temple bow to look up when I got home. Seeing that slip of paper on my way in to do baptisms today, I stopped to look up James Walker and found a James Walker who I was related to, whose wife needed to be baptized. I reserved her to bring along. I was so incredibly full of joy the entire time I was serving these people in the house of the Lord today. I felt their immense joy and gratitude. I couldn't stop smiling as I marveled at the stream of revelation I had received that led me to the five women I was able to be baptized for. I couldn't help but share these experiences in Tia's podcast with multiple people I came in contact within the temple. It seemed my soul was literally jumping for joy. These are real people in need of real-time help, and we have the opportunity to offer them real power in the house of the Lord. I really believe that. So grateful to Tia for teaching me the reality of those on the other side of the veil and their present awareness of and need to communicate with me. Sariah has, and I'm gonna have her on as a guest in a few weeks. Um, she has consistently, she's a young single adult, has consistently lived in revelation, specifically on behalf of those who are on the other side of the veil. Yes, she receives many kinds of revelation, but as she experiences these things now on a regular basis, she becomes the conduit, the avenue, the vessel that the Lord chooses because she's listening and her belief is that she can have these experiences. And in one day, in many different whether she heard it or she felt them, or she was impressed, she had the prompting, all of those particular revelatory experiences led to um five different women that day being led to begin to take hold upon the word of Christ, to participate in the doctrine of Christ, and living through those covenants that had been made to their fathers. Can angels communicate with us? Yes. Can we have that special spiritual gift? Yes. As they communicate through the power and gift of the Holy Ghost because of our Savior Jesus Christ, we will be given the power, and we cannot be restrained by having them involved in our lives and being made aware that they are there. I add my testimony to all of these stories that I have read today. That when you involve yourself in the gathering, the ministering of angels is ever present and that you will see, feel, hear, know that they are around you and that they are involved in your life. I'm gonna read one last statement from Moroni 10. Pratt. Moroni 10. And ye may know that he is by the power of the Holy Ghost. Wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God, for he worketh by power according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow and forever. You see, my friends, he is not a respecter of persons. It is the same exact way that the ancients experienced angelic ministrations that we can as well. Verse 8. And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for there are many, and they came, and they come from the same God, and there are different ways that these gifts are administered, but it is the same God who worketh all in all, and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men to profit them. Now, verse 14, and again to another the beholding of angels and ministering spirits. We are encouraged by Moroni to seek after these gifts, to have faith that we can have these gifts, and that it's the same gifts that were had by our foremothers and our forefathers, everyone we read about in the scriptures. They are attributes and gifts of our Savior Jesus Christ. And we can have the gift of the beholding of angels and ministering spirits. Not just to have it, though. We ask for that gift so that we can be more effective in doing his work of bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of all of his children. That is why that gift particularly is given. And just because it doesn't spell it out in your patriarchal blessing, doesn't mean that you can't have access to that same gift. You're not just given one gift. In fact, we're asked to pray for many. Now, this is from Parley P. Pratt, Spiritual Communications and Journal of Discourses 1:16. So I'm gonna I'm gonna end with this, but I want you to listen to his testimony of what he is particularly testifying about. In relation to what we've talked about today, the experiences that we've had today, again, go to Gathering of Gatherers Facebook group and start participating and start realizing that you're not the only one, that there are many, quote, as it says in the scriptures, they're experiencing these things. He writes, Who then is prepared among the spirits in the spirit world to communicate the truth on the subject of salvation, to guide the people, to give advice, to confer consolation, to heal the sick, to administer joy and gladness and hope of immortality and eternal life founded on manifest truth? Then he answers, All that have been raised from the dead and clothed with immortality, all that have ascended to yonder heavens and been crowned as kings and priests, all such are our fellow servants and of our brethren the prophets, who have the testimony of Jesus. All such are waiting for the work of God among their posterity on the earth. They could declare glad tidings if we were only prepared to commune with them. What else? Peter, James, Joseph, Hiram, Father Smith, and all of those ancient or modern saints, who have departed this life, who are clothed upon with the powers of the eternal apostleship or priesthood, who have gone to the world of spirits not to sorrow, but as joyful messengers, bearing glad tidings of eternal truth to the spirits in prison? Could not these teach us good things? Yes, if they were permitted to do so. If this be the case, what then do we wish in communicating with the eternal world by visions, angels, or ministering spirits? The hearts of the children had become estranged, estranged from the fathers, and the hearts of the fathers from the children, until one came in the power, spirit, and power of Elijah to turn the keys of these things to open communication between worlds. I thought that was awesome, to open communication between worlds and to kindle in our bosoms that glow of eternal affection which lay dormant. I'm going to stop right there. I'll finish reading in just a second, but I want to point out what he just said. That the coming of Elijah not only opened the heavens and brought back the sealing power that families could be sealed. He states Elijah came also to open communication between both worlds. Parley P. Pratt follows. We have no dead. Only think of it. Our fathers are all living, thinking, acting, active agents. We have only been taught that they are dead. Shall I speak my feelings that I had on yesterday while we were laying those cornerstones of the temple? By the way, this was given at the lane of the cornerstone of the Salt Lake Temple. Yes, I will utter them if I can. Now listen to this very, very sacred personal experience that Parley shares. It was not with my eyes, not with the power of actual vision, but my intellect, by the natural faculties inherent in man, by the exercise of my reason upon known principles, or by the power of the spirit, that it appeared to me that Joseph Smith and his associate spirits, the latter-day saints, hovered about us on the brink of that foundation, and with them all the angels and spirits from the other world that might be permitted or that were too not too busy elsewhere. Did you catch that? His eyes were opened, and he saw many of his friends on the other side of the veil attending that lane of the cornerstone. He writes, Why should I think so in the first place? What else on this earth have they to be interested about? Where would their eyes be turned in the wide earth if not centered here? Where would their hearts and affections be if they cast a look or a thought towards the dark speck in the heavens which we inhabit? Unless to the people of these valleys, valleys and mountains. Are there others who have the keys for the redemption of the dead? Is anyone else preparing a sanctuary for the holy conversation and ministrations pertaining to their exaltation? No, verily. No other people have opened their hearts to conceive ideas so grand, no other people have their sympathies drawn out to such an extent towards their fathers. It is here that the spirit world would look with an intense interest. It is here that the nations of the dead, if I may so call them, would concentrate their hopes of ministration on the earth in their behalf. It is here that the countless millions of the spirit world would look for the ordinances of redemption so far as they have been enlightened by the preaching of the gospel since the keys of the former dispensation were taken away from the earth. They wished to see a strong people gathered and united in sufficient power to maintain a spot on earth where a baptismal font might be erected for the baptism for the dead. It was here that all their expectations were centered. Their interests were centered here and thence extended to the work of God among the nations of the earth. The spirit of our holy ordination and anointing will not let us rest. I love that Parley is so adamant. Of course, their their affections are here upon us. Of course, every ounce of ministering that they can muster are focused on us. Because we only believe that we can help those on the other side of the veil and bring them back into the presence of our Father and the Savior Jesus Christ. We can be logical about it. We know that we are the only ones, but honestly, when it comes down to it, of course their affections are here because we are their family. And they are solicitous for our for our welfare. And that through the gift of the Holy Ghost, we can experience our angelic ancestors from the other side of the veil ministering to us on a regular basis, most especially as we enter into the holy house of God, in those temples that are dotting the earth, for and in behalf of those who have yet to become part of that eternal family through covenantal relationship. I hope that you've understood today that angels do communicate by the power of the Holy Ghost, that we can receive and feel and see and know all of the different ways that the work of the Father may continue. You are needed, you most are assuredly seen. And I promise you are being ministered in ways that you and I cannot even comprehend. As we live in these very tumultuous times, they know that and they understand that. They see our sadness for our own families, and they are doing everything that they can as we give more priesthood power and push it to more of those on the other side of the veil. They turn around and use that priesthood power on us. So thank you for joining me, my friends, today. I hope that this has been instrumental in helping you, if you've having experiences, to know that they are real. I encourage you to go share them in the Gathering of the Gatherers if you're prompted to. And know that there are many out there experiencing these wonderful sacred gifts. And that just because someone says that that's not possible, I've just talked for a full hour about Exhibit A, B, C, and D that says that it most assuredly is possible and it should be happening. And if it's not, it's because of unbelief. Thanks for joining me, friends, and being patient with me as again I navigate all of this. And um, I hope you will join me next week. And if you have any stories, email me at Tia at the nameofhevel.com or put them in the Gathering of the Gatherers. And um, I hope that you know that I all I love all of you and appreciate all of your prayers. I know there's a lot of people praying for me all the time. So I told my I told my husband, I feel bad that I'm having to be a person that people pray for all the time, but I'm also grateful for um for that and know that I um I know it and I'm grateful, and I send prayers to heaven and gratitude for who you are and this community that you've given me as I've experienced these things and um have felt alone sometimes because now I don't feel alone anymore. So have a great week, my friends. We'll talk to you soon. Bye.
