Welcome to Temple Bound. She has such an amazing story and we're going to get to hear a unique take on the temple as she tells her journey, of what it was like for her to be exposed to the church from her faith background and then to be a member of the church now and what that means to her Enjoying the show. Monica, thank you so much for being on Temple Bound. Your story I cannot wait to get into. So I've already done the intro, as you know, so let's get right into it.
Speaker 1:What's your story? Tell us your background. I think that's a good starting point. I don't think most people on the podcast are used to hearing that exact word. So you were born in a Jewish family in Texas. Got it in Texas, got it. That's amazing. And so what was that like for you? Growing up in Texas because it is the greatest place on the planet I have a texan flag in my garage as well. Born and raised in el paso, so yeah, I love this like strong cultural way you were raised, because there's this really strong texan kind of thing.
Speaker 1:But then obviously, the jewish community has such a strong pride as well regarding their you know descendants and ancestry. Wow, I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm from Texas. That's the center of the universe. Wow, that's right. That's right. And then, how many siblings did you have growing up? Okay, so very you know powerful way to start your journey.
Speaker 1:And then, um, yeah, tell me about, like, how that developed into becoming a member of the church. Or is there more before that piece? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I can go to a timeshare like dinner, like, yeah, seriously, yeah, well, I can see why. I mean, I grew up so one of my best friends growing up was, was jewish as well robbie bushwald, and it was me, him and another guy named ryan who, uh, was christian scientist, and so we just made fun of each other's religions non-stop. But it was funny because I also got exposed to the jewish faith very, very early and it's it's something that I get. It it's such a you know, in the jewish faith, if I understand it correctly, there's, there is no hell. So, you know, christianity is running around saying do this or you're going to go to hell, and it's just very polar and kind of intense. I could only imagine. I think, whatever you feel like sharing, because I know that my audience right now is going.
Speaker 1:Wait a minute. How did you go from being Jewish to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, especially when Christianity's exposure was this really intense kind of polar piece of it? So maybe get some high level like key things that shifted that mindset for you, like was there one thing in particular that really like like an aha moment for you? Or you know what was that like? Got it? No, no, yes, oh, wow, yeah, yeah. Great advice, oh, no, oh, no, yeah, yes, which is very again, this is very typical of our faith, but not typical outside.
Speaker 1:Like this is a very especially at that age, at college, at the university of Texas, like that's something that is a very distinct like impression that you follow. Wow, their designation Right. Oh, I bet you became the coolest person in school Cause you were their light right home. Yeah, yeah, yeah, wow, wow, because it's a massive campus. Like this is like running into someone in a city. Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, wow, oh, my gosh, hold the babies, or, if you, of people yeah, hundreds of people. Totally no-transcript.
