Okay, all right, cool. Thank you. Good morning, Kate Pasell. Welcome to Yellow Shelf, Kate. Thank you for having me. Thank you. Oh, congratulations. Your book is out now. I know it's your second book. Your book is entitled Tell Your Eating Disorder to Fuck Off. Tell us all about it.
SPEAKER_01Okay, where do I begin? So I've uh experienced a lot of eating disorder stuff in my life. So when I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. So I was quite unwell with that for a few years and then did recover from that quite well. I won't go into the story around it. It's basically in my first book if you're interested. But yeah, so I had that experience and then recovered and then almost sort of had some issues with body image and things like that. But specifically over the last few years, I was actually diagnosed, I wasn't actually diagnosed until last September, but um I was experiencing atypical anorexia, which is basically like an obsession with weight loss and uh intense fear of weight gain. Um so that that's been happening over the last few years, and I've just been on my recovery journey with that since September. So I'm actually in a much better place now than I've I've been. Um I've kicked its bum, like I've kicked its ass and told it to fuck off. And it's it basically almost almost to the point of having it completely fucked off. So excuse my French, but um yeah, so I actually have an I have an incredibly extensive lived experience when it comes to eating disorders. So I understand eating disorders and I understand eating disorder recovery. Um, so that's why I wrote the book. And I started writing the book a couple of years ago while I was sort of experiencing some of this stuff. Um, and I was like, okay, this is gonna not only help me, but it's gonna help other people as well, because I'm I'm learning and growing, and I'm gonna put all of that into this book.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well done. I think you know, when I think about individuals or families and friends supporting and going through this journey, it is obviously incredibly complex, but you feel like you're alone. You feel like you know you're the only person going through it. It's and and what I like about you as a it's extraordinarily isolating. Yeah. Uh what I and what I was gonna say, what I like about you writing this book is you've got lived experience in this space. I mean, people can find books from academics and doctors, but here are you sharing, you know, uh what's been your journey in all your books. Do you want to tell us about your sorry? What was the question? Sorry, yeah. No, I was just gonna say, do you want to tell us about your first book? It was more like a memoir you mentioned to me off camera. Uh whereas this book is Yes, yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_01It's self-help. This book is specifically self-help. So my first book, which is Hoping, that was a memoir. It was basically my story of illness and my extensive experience of recovery. And it's a very hopeful, lovely story to read. So that's more of a memoir. But this book is specifically um hands-on tools and concepts that will help someone move forward from an eating disorder. So it's a self-help book more than anything else.
SPEAKER_00And Kate, do you want to tell us? I was looking at your website. Do you want to point us in the direction if we're curious about this book, your previous book, and I know there's one coming out next year. Is the website the best resource to go to? There is. Yeah. I'm gonna put a link in the show notes.
SPEAKER_01The website really has yeah, yeah, definitely KatePasel.com. It's got all of it's basically I've I started the website because it's a blog site. So I write blogs quite regularly, and more than anything else, they're around eating disorder recovery. So um, yeah, that's that's a a good way of getting in touch with some of my writing. Yes. Um, but in terms of buying buying this book, tell your eating disorder to F off, just Google it on, put it in Google with my name and and the title, and it'll come up with a bunch of different retailers. So fabulous. Um, you know, at the end of the day, if people really want to get in touch with me personally, I can send I can send a signed copy to them by a post.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_01But really, I think the best way of doing that would be to email me. So that's definitely an option for people as well. I've done that for a few people already.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wonderful, Kate. And Kate, I know a lot of your information and resources is on your webpage. I'll also put a link into the work you've uh done with your publisher. You're um and also just I might make it easy for anyone watching anywhere in the world, some links to where they can get the book. Kate, will you come back next year and share your thoughts? That would be amazing. Yeah, Kate, will you come back next year? Oh, absolutely. I'll just quickly share your next book. I'd love to have you back.
SPEAKER_01That'd be amazing. I'll just touch base quick on the third book. So it's a recovery book as well, but it's more about spirituality because I'm a very spiritual person and it's helped me in my recovery. So um I I talk about how spirituality can help people move forward. Well, Kate. In ways that they probably didn't even expect.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, beautiful. Okay, enjoy this book. I know it's such an accomplishment each time you write a book and you get it out there. Um, thank you so much for joining us and all the best.
SPEAKER_01No worries. I'll just leave you with a quote that I quoted on another podcast. This to everyone, and I say it to myself at times when the eating disorder is arcing up. Really, do not let the eating disorder dull your sparkle because that's literally what an eating disorder does. It makes you so isolated and feeling so low about life. So, really, you have to remember to not let eating disorder dull who you are, all your positive qualities, all the things that make you sparkle. Do that. So, because that literally tells the eating disorder to f off. So, yeah, I'll leave you with that.
SPEAKER_00Okay, what a beautiful way to end this chat with such a positive reinforcement. Kate, all the best. Thank you. Cheers.
