Jeff Helzner is a decision scientist. He began his career as a philosophy professor at Columbia University, where he taught and researched decision theory, formal epistemology, and logic, before leaving academia in 2014 to apply those ideas to real-world decision making in the insurance industry. His current work focuses on building tools to improve underwriting decisions in insurance lines where human judgment is an important source of information. He holds a Ph.D. in Logic, Computation, and Methodology from Carnegie Mellon University.
