The Healthier Home Studio Podcast

Find your next breakthrough in a lucid dream.

• Chris Graham • Season 1 • Episode 13

Chris:

this is an episode about the most important skill. That I have ever mastered. And that is the skill of lucid dreaming lucid dreaming is when you're in a dream. And you become aware that you are having a dream, you are, as they say, lucid in the dream. When I'm lucid dreaming, I have never experienced more raw creativity, more emotional intelligence. More piece, My motto is do the next scary thing. And for some reason for me right now, the next scary thing is making this episode I don't really know why it doesn't seem like it should be a very hard episode to make, but I'm struggling over here Now just because you're aware that you're dreaming doesn't mean that you can control the dream and change it, bend it to your will. Sometimes it does, but often what happens when you begin to have a lucid dream is the dream will begin to destabilize. sometimes it gets really weird and sometimes you just wake up. Out of all of the excitement and emotion that's involved in having complete control of a dream. It is a type of wild freedom and one that I am really grateful for. Lucid dreaming has been so important to me because I. I didn't use to have lucid dreams. I used to have the scariest nightmares. I can possibly imagine every single night. lucid dreaming. Was something that I began to pursue. as a solution to my nightmare problem, I had read stories about Vietnam vets with PTSD. Who had reoccurring nightmares And some of them taught themselves how to lucid dream and would wake up in the dream and confront the nightmare. And for some reason that broke the cycle and the reoccurring nightmares disappeared after that. and so I began to pursue this. With just every ounce of who I was back during COVID back in, in 2020, when things first started to get locked down. And I did it because I understood. That unless I could learn how to rest. I was never going to be able to actually be my best, let alone my truest self. And so for me to be healthy, I needed to not have the same nightmare all night long, every night. there were a couple things that I did that were helpful for me. And I'm gonna try to make this episode quick, concise. Bite-size if you will. When I first started on my lucid dream journey, when I first started trying to explore to see if I could break into this world and. And have some controlled fix what was wrong with me? I read a couple books and I watched a bunch of videos. Listen to some podcast episodes. And a lot of them all said basically the same thing. The weirdest part about dreaming. Is that you almost always will forget your dreams if you start to move once you wake up in the morning. So I'm sure a lot of us have had this experience of you wake up and you're like, oh, that was a weird dream. And you start to roll over and you're like, I don't. What was the dream again? Oh, weird. There's this weird mechanism that when you move after waking up it wipes, the slate clean it's like amnesia kicks in and the dreams just Fu flutter away. So one of the most important things that you can possibly do. Is to wake up, hold, still try to remember the dream as you're coming out of the, out of sleep. Keep a dream journal next to your bed, and immediately grabbed the journal and write down everything you can remember. And if you can improve your dream recall for some reason. That will improve your ability to lose the dream. At least that's been most people's experience. The caveat, the thing that makes this so interesting and bizarre Is, you might already be lucid dreaming all night, every night. And not remembering it because you don't have very good dream recall. And so the first thing you want to invest in the first lucid dreaming skill is dream recall when you wake up tomorrow morning. Try to get in the habit of lane perfectly still, and remembering your dreams. If you want extra credit and you want this to happen super fast, grab your dream journal and write some stuff down. That's the first step. One of the things for me that was even more helpful than keeping a dream journal to improve my dream recall. Was a practice that I call snooze prayer. And what snooze prayer is. It's just this weird thing I made up. At the time I was living at my brother's house. My ex wife had kicked me out. I wasn't able to see my kids COVID was in full swing. I'm. So fucking depressed. At this point in my life. I was working on lucid dreaming. I had absolutely nothing to do on a Saturday. It, wasn't gonna be able to see my kids that day. And so I set my alarm early and when it woke me up, I hit the snooze button, put my face down on the bed and I started to pray. And eventually I fell asleep. And then this news woke me up at nine minute alarm. Hit the snooze button. Again, started to pray, fell asleep. Alarm woke me up, hit the snooze button again. I would do that on purpose. I'd sleep until like two in the afternoon having woken up at six. Just snooze button, snooze button, snooze button, snooze button. And the reason I did that. Was I began to understand that an awful lot of sleep is how you fall asleep. And when you do the snooze prayer thing, just for one day, You can get an additional month of practice falling asleep. You only fall asleep at probably one time per day, right? Maybe two times per day. So you're getting what. 30 to 60 reps per month of falling asleep. And getting better at relaxing yourself. Controlling your breath, releasing tension in your body, doing these things that just make sleep that much better. If you intentionally relax as you go into it. When I started doing the snooze prayer thing. Falling asleep. Got so much easier for me. And in the type of yoga that I practice yoga nidra. The purpose of yoga, nidra the goal, the end goal, at least in my opinion, in my practice. Is to be able to fall asleep right into a lucid dream. Now, I know that sounds hokey pokey and oh boy, Chris is going to bust out the crystals here in just a minute, guys. behind me in the loft, in the cabin, there is a framed picture of the Scout's honor law. It got full justice for boy Scouts in Ohio, Alabama, and Indiana. And there's a governor's pen in the frame. I got to make a fucking law guys and make real meaningful change the plan to make the law. The thing that I did that made this possible when everybody else said it was impossible, except for. Senator Antonio chatter. Senator Antonio. The thing that made it possible was I had a lucid dream and in the lucid dream, a plan came to me. When I'm lucid dreaming, I have never experienced more raw creativity, more emotional intelligence. More piece, when you get in there and the purpose of the lucid dream. Is to grow. It's a freaking G code When I started having these lucid dreams, it wasn't that long after I had been doing this news prayer thing. After I had been focusing on dream recall on never forget the first time it happened. And so guys, the reason for this episode, It is I'm grasping how weird it is that the business podcast guy is now preaching lucid dreaming. I know that seems pretty weird, pretty hokey pokey. All of my best business ideas, my best strategy, my best creativity, all of it. All of it. Comes when I'm lucid dreaming now. I'm a fucking idiot when I'm awake. And when I. Have let myself rest. That's really the key when I have let myself rest enough. That I fall into this lucid state. It is one of the most incredible. Fulfilling peaceful, stable. Moments in my day, every day. The most amazing, most miraculous thing that I know how to do. if this episode resonated with you, my contact information is below and the episode, shoot me a line. Let me know if this is helpful. In any way, or if you have any questions. And I'll possibly do some follow-up episodes. But I would say schedule a day and do the snooze prayer thing and, That's today's episode. not a super long one. this was more attempts, more takes to get this episode than any episode I've done so far, period. and I think a lot of it was just difficult for me to talk about this, and avoid talking about what the actual nightmare that I used to have was, and. I don't want to do that on this podcast. It's hard for me to talk about that. And so I'm going to leave that part out of this episode. It looks like I'm going to actually get a full take on this one. Yeah, but guys, I just want you to know, it is my hope. That you guys don't just build these amazing flourishing businesses in and around recording studios. But you feel fulfilled while you're doing it. The thing that's been so interesting and so challenging is hearing back from people that used to listen to the six-figure and studio. And hearing them say, Hey, I did it. I got a six figure home studio. It didn't fulfill me the way I thought it would. Gotcha. It's my hope that when I'm teaching you guys that we can do both. The week that we can grow amazing businesses. But also feel so much more fulfilled than we ever thought was possible. That's the place I'm coming from guys. I have never in my life. Felt this fulfilled before everything before I started to get healthy and I started to go to the state house. It just, it feels like a dream. This is the weird thing. It feels like a dream. It feels like it happened while I was asleep. And now I'm actually awake. And I'm aware and I'm present and I'm myself. and I love every piece of myself that I've ever been. And so your guys is actionable today. What I would encourage you to do, is the two things I talked about, first of all, Get into the practice of staying still. When you wake up and trying to remember what you have dreamed. Second of all. Set aside a morning where you can with no shame, hit that snooze button on unlimited number of times, and you can sleep until two in the afternoon. If you want to. Try that get some practice falling asleep. And just see if that's helpful. if it is please reach out. let me know my contact information, WhatsApp and my Instagram handle. They're all in the show notes of every episode. because for me, this podcast is about conversations about starting conversations with people. And so, uh, if you've been listening and lurking in the background and had been thinking about reaching out, please do. you can shoot me a text on WhatsApp or on Instagram. Would love to hear, how the podcast has been landing with you and yes, stay tuned for many more episodes. from here on out the plan with the podcast. Is to be doing a lot more interviews with people and talking about how they made their first dollar in a recording studio And what that was like and how they transitioned and began to make more money per hour, raise the value of their time. And that's the goal with this show. we're still going to do episodes like this big fields episodes. Holy shit. That's what we're going to call them. Big fields episodes. Okay. So this was a big fields episode. Most of the episodes moving forward from here are going to be business story episodes. I'm going to interview people that work in and around recording studios. And they are going to share their story with us from the first project they took, where they were making money on their own. To the different projects that were transitional, where they, jumped up a league, so to speak broke through a ceiling. And got to that next level where their time became more valuable. That is the goal with episodes moving forward, We've got these business story episodes and we've got these big feelings episodes. Guys. It has been a grind getting this podcast off the ground and I am so excited to dig deeper into it. but yeah, I just want to thank you guys so much for listening and thank you guys for sticking around. Stay tuned. Next Tuesday at some point throughout the day. tune in, you will see me drop a new episode and I can't wait to share Another one of these business stories with you, from somebody in our industry that has found a way to grow against all odds. That they have blazed their own trail. And we're going to talk about how they've increased the value of their time. So thank you guys so much for tuning in. Check back next Tuesday and have a great day.
