Lori Lee:

Welcome. Thank you for joining me for the very first podcast of Conversation at Sunrise. I really appreciate you spending your time. It's not lost on me that time is one of our most precious resources. So I'm sure there are a lot of other things you can be doing right now. So thank you for that. And if you're interested in knowing why I named my podcast the way I did stick around until the end and I'll explain. So let me ask you, if you could, if there was a genie right now that could grant you for one of your dreams to come true, a dream that has been on your heart for a very long time, off and on, If you can, close your eyes and just think about those feelings, if that dream was to happen, and take away all the excuses, money, fear, anxiety, supportive of your family, whatever it may be, take all that away. You have everything you need to make this dream come true. What are some of the feelings that you would feel if that was to happen? Immense joy, excitement inspiration, just gratitude. And I ask you to feel those emotions because whatever you're feeling right now, that is a tip of what I'm feeling because my dream is this podcast. And I'll explain. So first, welcome. My name is Lori Lee, and I am a wife of 22 years, a mother of four children, I have one grandchild, I have two fur babies, I have chickens, I have many grand doggies. So my life is quite full and I am truly blessed. So When I say this podcast is my dream, I certainly didn't envision my dream to be me sitting behind a microphone recording, talking to all of you. But This dream goes back four decades. Yeah, four decades ago when I was filling out my college application which was a lot simpler back then than when my kids were going off to college. But anyways, it was a simple, perforated application from the back of the book. We had to write an essay and it had your typical questions on the essay. One was, what obstacle have you have you had to overcome in your life thus far? And how did you do it? Another one was what do you envision? What's a dream of yours for the future that you would like to accomplish? And for that part of my essay, My dream was specifically to open up a community center for underprivileged children for a place to teenage, a place for teenagers to go to help them feel that they were enough. And lastly, for young adults to help them figure out their purpose why they're here. I don't think I went beyond the young adults. If I talked about adults at all I don't recall that. I guess at 17 you think 50 is forever away. That was not in the scope of my essay anyways. So obviously I did not I did not open a community center, but I was approached a couple years ago, specifically the end of 2021, and asked to start a podcast. And at the time I was in corporate America, I've been in corporate America for 30 years. And it, there was a lot going on and it just wasn't the right time. It wasn't the right time for me, but it's something that has stayed with me. And it has since, I have since realized that. By having a podcast, I can help fulfill some of that dream that I had all those years ago, by sharing my stories some of my challenges, my obstacles and just. The, and just share the wisdom. My children have always said, mom, you're so wise, so much. And I tell them all the time, I'm not really any wiser than you. It's simply because I'm older than you. I've been through more. I have had more failures in life. I've got, I've just gone through a lot more and, I think one of the things we don't spend enough time doing is teaching our children how to fail. I think, and I am guilty of it myself, that I have always wanted to swoop in and prevent any discomfort for them. And I've since learned that we really need to rebrand failure and failure needs to be part of every child growing up. We need to teach our kids to take risk. And, I've heard recently from a podcast I listen that, sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. So instead of saying sometimes you lose, I like that saying sometimes you learn because that's what a failure is. It's through your failures that you actually propel to the next level. So through this podcast, It is my humble attempt to meet you in whatever season you're in and whatever challenges good or, Oh, I guess challenges are good, but whether things are really good for you or, you have challenges right now I think by sharing stories with each other, I think that is how we can be there to support each other. journey. And so what can you expect from my podcast? I will be doing weekly shows. And to start I will be doing several solo episodes where I will share some of my stories and again, things that I have learned in the hopes that you can pick nuggets of wisdom from them that may help you in, in your own space. And I will also be inviting guests on the show, just ordinary people like, like you and me. One of the things, I guess one of the things about life is there's a lot of ups and downs, right? I guess it's like a rollercoaster. There's some exhilarating highs, but then there's some gut wrenching lows, too. And, but I think one thing that remains steadfast through all of it, is that you really are the hero of your own story. You do really have whatever it, what it takes to get through whatever season you're in. And I can imagine some of you are saying, yeah, but Laurie, you don't know what I'm going through. Laurie, you don't know what I've been through. Laurie, you don't have the challenges, that I'm facing right now. Maybe not, but I have hit gold. I have hit quite a few and there's been one, one constant through it all, which we will talk about. So I am looking forward to our time together and though this seems to be a one way conversation, I am hoping that you will leave comments below and I will respond to everybody. So I will be having guests on and, we'll be talking about. their successes as well as some of their challenges and dissecting some of those challenges they've had and how they've overcome it. So I think that's where I'm at. So before closing, this was a very short podcast. I understand it was mainly to introduce myself and to let you know what to expect from this podcast and kind of set the foundation. But I did tell you that I would explain how I came up with the name. Cause I think it's important. And. For a while now, say since my thirties, maybe even longer, and I'm sure most of you do this as well, that when you wake up in the morning and I have always been an early riser sometimes long before sunrise, but sunrise represents the beginning of the day. When you wake, when I wake up, I just, I have this conversation with myself, whether it was a to do list, whether it was, projects for work, maybe an argument I had the night before, a challenge with a teenager in the house at the time, whatever it may have been. And this would be every day. The mind, as soon as you wake up starts talking, but I don't think I grasped the significance. of that conversation, that first conversation of the day until maybe five years ago. Just as you can go to your closet and pick out an outfit for the day, you can actually go pick out the feelings that you want to feel that day. And I'm not talking about toxic positivity. I am talking about, I'm legitimately get in your mind in a good spot to start your day, talking about the things you're grateful for, talking about, thinking about some of the good stuff that has gone on and even more recently, I have invited the divine to this conversation and, You're probably saying, Lori, that's just praying, right? Aren't you just praying? Maybe. But I guess the best way to explain it is one of my greatest mentors, Wayne Dyer, and hopefully I don't butcher this, but he used to say it. The music is not made by the notes. The music is the silence in between the notes. And it's within that silence that. You would hear your intuition and he would say it's that intuition that it's actually God, talking to you. So I do, I start my morning having a conversation with God and I do pause and I try and listen for the silence. So to me, that conversation is the most important conversation of your day. You can start your day off right, you can be there to support everybody else in the family. So that's how I came up with the name. Anyways I guess that's it. And again, I really appreciate your time. Thank you so much. I look forward to our next conversation at sunrise. But until we talk again, just please know deep in your heart, you are enough just the way you are. And you really are the hero of your own story. I love you, and I'll talk with you soon.
