22 verse 6 train up a child in the way he should go. Look at me. Most of us train up our children by telling them what not to do, and that has a place. The problem is we don't really tell them what to do. You know, there's an old song that says, Don't, don't send those kids to Sunday school. Get out of bed and take them. There's something about example. Do it and let them copy. In Ireland, they tell the story of a lawyer who lived near, it wasn't too far away from a bar. He would work late and then leave late in the morning before he'd go. He would stop at the bar and have some drink and then go on his way. This day it was snowing. And uh he simply decided to walk. It wasn't too far to the bar, had his drink, was coming back to get into his car, and he couldn't believe it. His little four-year-old had got out of the house and with his little legs, he was putting his foot in the footprints of Daddy. And the father said, What are you doing out here in this snow? Oh, he said, I'm putting my feet in daddy's tracks. I'm stepping in daddy's tracks. I ask you, Daddy, if your child steps in your tracks, where is he headed? Train up a child in the way he should go. Don't tell him to love God without you loving God. Don't tell him to be honest if you yourself are a crook. Do what's right and do what's honest and do what's proper and let him see you as an example. Train up a child in the way that he should go. He should go to church, he should praise the Lord, he should be faithful, he should give his tithes and offerings. My mother used to sing a little song. I don't know if some of you remember it. It's a sin to tell a lie. That's the atmosphere I was raised in. We weren't perfect. I'm not perfect. But I was raised to believe, friends, that you told the truth and you didn't steal anything from anybody. That's the kind of house that you have to have, starting off with, if you're going to make sure that your Gideon is not turned over to the mob. And the mob's coming. The mob, I wish I didn't have to say that. That beautiful little baby of yours, he's getting a little bigger, isn't he? Getting a little bigger. He's so beautiful, he's so wonderful. He delights yourself. The mob is coming. I'll leave this scripture after reading it one more time. Train up a child in the way he should go. He should go. You set that example. When he is old, what a promise. Do you like that? Proverbs.
