The Learning curve Part 4

The prodigal son, the Big Burke says, learned the hard way. His learning curve led him from a good home into a riotous lifestyle. He ran from home, his pockets bulging with money, but found himself empty and starving in a pig pen. The Big Burke says he came to himself. In other words, he caught himself on and remembered home. He remembered his father's love and remembered his own arrogance and pride, wedded up, leapt over the pig pen wall, and shuffled home. He left home on horseback, filled with pride. Now he crept home, bent over, emptied, and on foot. I'm sure he thought to himself, I'm not worthy to be received home again, after the way that I treated my dad, but sure even his servants are better off than I am. The big book the Bible tells us that his dad saw him shuffling over the horizon, and ran to him, grabbed him, hugged him, smell or no smell, sin or no sin. The father recognized him, even though he was dirty, smelly, stooped and emptied. You see, no father can ever really deny his son or daughter. Acceptance was the key to this young person's freedom. Restoration of all that he had lost was a bonus that he never earned. He left a pig pen and gained a mansion. He left poverty and gained riches that we can never imagine. This young man learned the hard way that love covers a multitude of sins, just in the same way that you and I today can learn that Jesus Christ is a great Savior for every great sinner. Perhaps like me you've learnt many things in your journey of life. It's part of living. But one thing we all need to learn is that if we are lost, as lost as a prodigal son, our Father in heaven is simply waiting for us to come home. Forgiveness is God's nature. Freedom from sin is just a prayer away. So why not leave the pig pen and gain an eternal mansion? Why not leave poverty and gain heaven's riches? Why not learn from the big book and let God's son lead you into forgiveness and liberty? The choice is yours today. Jesus said, Come on to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Folks, that's an invitation you really can't afford to miss. Makes you think, doesn't it?
