JJ's Clinical Connections

Stop the Scare: Debunking Behavioral Health Myths

Dr. Jennifer Jancsin, Zepf Center Season 1 Episode 5

Welcome to JJ's Clinical Connections! Connecting you to clinical topics.

As the weather cools and leaves change, autumn is in full swing in Northwest Ohio! With Halloween around the corner, spooky attractions and costumes can be fun, but this season can also bring up harmful stereotypes about those living with mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

This month, we’re joined by Zepf Center’s Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) team to help debunk these myths and misconceptions. These talented clinicians help train Zepf Center staff to support clients in crisis and deescalate situations in a non-violent and non-physical way.

In this episode, we’ll learn more about Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques, how they are utilized at Zepf Center, and how they positively impact clients and staff. We’ll also explore the truth behind these myths and discuss how stigma can stand in the way of healing.

Thanks to our CPI team of Kara Olligschlager, Andrea Murdock, Bruce Stevens, and Madeline Verchio for joining us!
