Can we talk about the very expensive elephant in the online business room right now? Paid ads. Because I cannot tell you how many coaches and online business owners I see quietly asking themselves, should I be running ads? Am I behind because I'm not? Or even worse, why did I spend all that money and basically get nothing back? And listen, despite everything I say about teaching organic strategies, I am not anti-ads, but I am very pro-return on investment because in 2026, a lot of business owners are chasing faster visibility instead of building sustainable visibility. They're paying to be seen, but not building the kind of trust relationships and audience growth that keeps working after the money stops. So this episode today is about paid ads versus organic visibility, what actually works for you right now, and why one of these things can build your email list, bring in leads, and create clients long after you log off. I'm your host, Tracy Beavers, and this show is all about practical strategies, creative ideas, and sanity saving solutions that you can use right now. Let's crank up the dial on your business growth and make it fun. Let's create your online business success. So let's break this down. Now, the conversation is not about me telling you paid ads are evil and organic is the only answer. That's not what this is. This is about helping you understand where your return on investment is actually coming from as a coach or online service provider because there's a very big difference between paying for attention and building visibility that keeps working for you. So our audiences are experiencing a lot of things right now. Tell me if you can relate to this. Visibility feels harder than it used to because the online space is so crowded. Social media reach feels very inconsistent because what is the algorithm doing and who is even in charge of it anyway? I like to joke and say, I think the people that are in charge of the algorithm still don't know what the algorithm's doing, right? Also, everyone online is shouting, just run ads, just run ads. And paid ads can end up looking like the shortcut. So naturally, a lot of you start thinking maybe ads are the missing piece. Maybe I should just throw some money at this. Maybe this is how I finally speed things up. And sometimes ads can get you eyeballs and conversions faster. Uh uh, people subscribing to your list, I mean. Uh, but faster eyeballs and better business growth are not always the same thing because visibility is not the same as conversion. And what I mean by conversion is somebody buying what you've got, buying what you're selling. So I want you to write that down. I want you to let that sink in. Visibility is not the same as conversion. So let's talk about the paid ads versus organic visibility argument that has been going on since the dawn of time. Let's break it down. What do paid paid ads? You pay to interrupt someone's scroll. Literally, you pay to be right in front of them. You pay for immediate traffic. That immediate traffic is possible, but the trust, this is a cold audience. And so the trust factor is low, and those people still need to be warmed up. And you're spending money over and over and over again. So you've got to be prepared to outlay that money before you ever see the results. So you're outlaying money without even really knowing what your end return on investment is going to be. In other words, are these people going to buy? Because, in my experience, just because they join your list doesn't mean they're going to stick around. And so, yes, paid ads have their place and can be impactful, but I want you to remember this is still a cold audience that has to be warmed up. Organic visibility, let's talk about that. Compare and contrast paid ads and organic visibility. Organic visibility gives you strategic content. You guys know that I teach in business visibility made easy. That's my eight-week group coaching accelerator. That we do not create content just for content's sake because that is a waste of time and that is adding more noise to the online space. I want you creating strategic content that actually works for you to build your list and bring in the leads. Organic visibility lets you have conversations with people, either in the inbox or in the DMs, especially, and build those relationships. Organic visibility gives you repeat exposure, trust builds over time, and audience growth, list growth, leads, they start to churn on themselves and compound over time, very naturally. You see hear me say this stuff all the time. Paid ads are like renting a billboard. That you have heard that before. It's like building your business on rented land. You may be seen for a moment in that ad, but organic visibility is like buying the land. Every post, every conversation, every email subscriber, every relationship, you're building an asset that increases in value. So let's talk about paid ads. What's the biggest thing that I see people, coaches, online service providers getting wrong about ads? So, what are we getting wrong about ads? Most coaches think that they need traffic, but in reality, we need a better trust-building system. Because if the messaging is not clear, the offer path is not clear, there's no email nurture, there's no warm-up, and there's no conversations happening, then ads simply pour more cold people into a weak system. And that is a waste of not only money, but precious time. Because what a paid ad does for you is ads are like a great big magnifying glass. They come in and they shine the light, they shine the spotlight on what already exists. They amplify what you already are doing. So they're not gonna fix what's broken. A lot of people think that throwing money at an offer or a lead magnet to get it to convert in a paid ad is gonna fix a broken funnel. It's not true. They think it's a magic bullet. It's not true. So just throwing money at it isn't going to fix what is broken in your funnel, whether it's a free opt-in, sign up for your masterclass, a paid offer, no matter what it is. The magnifying, it magnifies what's happening, shines that big old spotlight on everything. So if organic visibility is not current, currently converting for you, ads don't magically solve that. They're not that magic bullet. I wish we had a magic bullet. I wish we had a magic pill that would make all of our businesses grow without effort, right? That'd be amazing. What organic visibility does better, especially this year in 2026. Let's talk about that. Organic visibility this year, in my opinion, does so much more for us. Also, it's free. Let's exhaust all the free strategies before we throw a bunch of money at paid ads that we're not sure are gonna work. It this year in 2026, my opinion, buyers, our buyers need they need repeated trust touches. You have heard we're in a trust recession, trust deficit, whatever you whatever people are calling it. But it's been going on since mid-2024. That's what I've seen in my audience. And it's what it's warranted because there were a lot of people selling a lot of things, making a lot of promises and not delivering. And so those repeated trust touches are necessary. The conversation, the relationships, making a connection, that is what's going to set us apart in 2026. We need to give these people proof that they can trust us. And there are longer decision windows again, as I mentioned, because they want to trust us. They want to know that we're their best solution, but it's taking them longer to decide. People are no longer buying from one random ad click. I mean, okay, let me back up. Let me rephrase. If you're a big name, a big big name in the influencer space and you know who those people are, those people can run an ad to something and people will buy. But I'm not that person. And um, you know, if if you're that person, that's amazing. But if you don't have that big name and you're not speaking on stages and on everybody's podcasts and, you know, all the all the stuff that influencers do, and people don't really know who you are yet, they're not gonna buy from a random ad. They're gonna buy when they feel familiar with you. They see that you are like them, that you can lead them, and you have the solution that they're wanting. Organic visibility gives people the chance to watch you, learn from you, hear your stories, see your expertise, join your email list, enter conversations with you. And that relationship building piece is the golden goose. It is key this year. So organic visibility builds those lists, uh, email list subscribers, helps us um have more DM conversations, brings in more referrals because we're collaborating with people, more podcast listeners, repeat content consumers, warmer leads, not just one-time traffic. And that is business equity. That is what I mean by organic visibility, it can be the cornerstone, foundation, equity asset of your business. But here's the thing about organic visibility, and you've heard me say this a million times. It only works if you stop doing it randomly. Organic strategies only work if you do them consistently and you have patience. And I know you are so sick of me saying that, but it is the truth. Our job is to do the work, to keep doing the work and keep doing the work and being consistent. Because if you're random in your social media content, in your emails to your list, in your podcast, in your YouTube channel, in your blog, in your whatever, and you're inconsistent in that and you're not remembering your strategy behind what you're doing, that's when your organic growth stops working. That's when your audience gets really confused. They're like, is Tracy Beavers really the professional and uh legit CEO that she says she is? I'm not sure because she keeps stopping and starting. Well, that's why you don't see me stopping and starting. Because I want to make sure my audience knows I'm here for the long haul and they can trust me. And you want that system that helps you keep consistent and be consistent week in, week out. And that's exactly what I teach in my eight-week group coaching accelerator, business visibility made easy. And it's also what I help my elite one-to-one clients do. So here's an example of one of the organic visibility systems that I teach, just to give you an example. I help my students and clients establish one regular piece of weekly content. I like to call it the anchor piece, whether that's a live training, a podcast, or a blog. Now, I'm not a real big fan of blogs. Um, I think you have to have your SEO dialed in and you still have to promote it, but I don't know anybody that's reading blogs. I personally am not reading them, so maybe that's why I think they're not the best. Video or audio, those are king and queen. Those are your best choices for your regular piece of weekly content. Then you take that piece that you wrote. If you wrote out your podcast script, if you wrote out your script for your YouTube channel for the training you wanted to do, um, or for your live training, maybe you go live on Facebook every week like I did for years. Then you take what you wrote and you have your favorite AI tool help you repurpose it into smaller social proof posts. So you could get two to three social media posts out of what you just presented and consistent CTAs. Those are super important. Uh, calls to action leading directly to your email list. Calls to action are super simple to use. They're also super simple to forget. So don't forget to have a call to action that leads to email list growth or engagement. Sometimes we want our calls to action to lead to engagement. Then you want to have those ongoing conversations with people in their inbox, in the DMs, in Facebook groups, in the comments of communities that you're in. This is how your visibility keeps moving without you needing to be online 24-7. And that's the structure, the main foundational structure that I teach in BVME. There's all kinds of other strategies that I teach you in that program, but that's one of the foundational pieces because it helps you be consistent week in, week out, even when you don't feel like it, at least getting your content out there, content that has strategy behind it that will grow your list and bring in more leads. So I'm gonna switch gears and go back to paid ads because you may be thinking, well, who should use ads then, Tracy? Who should be running them? Should I be running them? Can paid ads work? Absolutely. Absolutely they can. And I have clients that have great success with paid ads. Some of them can get leads for 25 cents. I'm like, what in the world? That's crazy pants. But my audience is very expensive with regard to paid ads. So that's why I choose not to run them because they also don't convert for me. They only work, though, when you already have something that's working organically. That's why I love starting with all these foundational organic strategies that I teach, because you get those rocking and rolling and humming and converting. Your list is growing, you have more leads, people are buying your offer. Then you can think about ads. So you need to already know your messaging converts. You need to already have an audience response pattern. You already have an offer that is selling, you already have nurture in place. Those things help drive paid ads and that should scale like a working machine. Um, they should be, they they should not be the magic bullet that um you want to make something work that's not already working, like we talked about, because the paid ads just gonna be that magnifying glass. All right. So the honest truth is this most coaches do not need ads as their first move. They need a stronger visibility system, they need a stronger list growth system, they need more conversations, they need more trust touches, they need consistency and patience. Because paying for strangers to look at your business is very different than building a business strangers start trusting on their own.
