Off The Hook
We are a group of private investigators, bounty hunters / fugitive recovery agents, and bail bondsmen that have been in this line of work for over twenty five years and have many stories to tell. We have traveled all over the country catching fugitives and bringing them back to have their day in court. With our years of experience we are trying to educate the public about bail and why it is a needed part of our judicial system.

Tickets secured, date locked, and the lineup everyone asked for. We finally pinned down our April 19 live event in downtown Wilmington with a VIP podcast, meet and greet, and plenty of time for photos, merch, and real conversation with Dog and Leland. After months of double bookings and scheduling chaos, it’s go time—and we’re breaking down exactly what to expect, how to get VIP access, and why seating is limited.
From there, we shift gears into a candid look at real life on the job. When your work involves heavy equipment, a tougher truck isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. But the dealership numbers were brutal: towering sticker prices, “approved” payments that rival a mortgage, and a decade of debt that makes no sense for a small operation. We talk through the decision to skip the shiny new rig and grab an older, fixable diesel that actually fits the business. It’s honest, unfiltered talk about cash flow, risk, and refusing to get trapped by financing hype.
The backbone of the episode is a field story with Leland Chapman that shows how smart planning beats brute force. We set up on an apartment complex in Columbia, kept a low profile, and used a simple, time-tested ruse—“I think I hit your car”—to draw the skip into the open. One block. One quick move. No injuries. No drama. Just good comms and clean execution. We share the little choices that make big differences: blending in with an unremarkable car, reading the parking lot, and moving only when the opening is real. If you’re curious about how real fugitive recovery works, you’ll get the play-by-play.
We also touch on the headlines shaping everyday costs. Global tensions push fuel prices up, and regular people feel it first. We talk about strength, restraint, and the reality that stability matters when you’re filling a tank, booking a flight, or keeping the lights on. It’s not a think tank crash course; it’s the view from the cab, the bench seat, and the kitchen table.
Want in on April 19? VIP gets you early entry, the live taping, light bites, and time with the crew before GA opens up. Seats are limited and moving fast—grab your spot, subscribe for updates, and leave a review to help more folks find the show. Then tell us: are you going VIP or rolling GA?

There is gonna be a free general admission to where you can come through, get some merch, and have them sign it.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Well that good stuff. Yeah, yeah. Yep. So anyway, we've been waiting, but just about, you know, figure we weren't gonna have this event.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I know it's been a pain.
SPEAKER_02So yesterday I get a text from Rob, talk to Leland. Leland said, Hey, text my dad, and uh I text him, and then him and uh his wife, Francie, called us and we had a good conversation. They were super stoked about coming to this. Uh, they just hated that they they double booked something, you know, previously. It happens, yeah, it happens, but we got it all. Um, everything's lined up, they got all info. We're gonna start advertising on social media. And uh anyway, um, it was cool though. I was in my car and I had it on speaker, you know, and I was taking my son to go work, and uh I was like, you know, that's dog I'm talking to here, and he's like, he's like, I don't care, I don't know who this is, you know. But what I said is I said, you know, Ozzie Osborne with Zach Wilde wrote a theme song to Dog the Bounty Hunter.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Specifically for him. Oh yeah. And you're gonna get to meet him.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, that's gonna be.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, word? Yeah, you know, that struck a that struck a uh key with him, you know, when I when I said Zach Wilde and Ozzie Osborne.

SPEAKER_04So get your tickets while the getting's good because they're gonna be gone is limited seating. Yep. Not a bit. Limited seating, yeah. Let me limit the seating. So, all right, Chad. Dude, I was at, you know, I've been busy.
SPEAKER_02I haven't been in the office lately because I've been, you know, dealing with Yeah, you've been busy working on the yard and getting stuff ready.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for my grandma, you know, she moved out. We're putting a little tiny house in, right? All right, so you know, of course I started this this uh heavy equipment business with a you know track front end loader, tractors, mini excavators, stuff like that, right? And uh I've been looking for a vehicle, like a bigger truck, because I got a 1500, but I need a little something with a more more more ass to it, like a diesel or 2500, 3500, whatever. Man, I so I kept I've been getting these things in the mail from a certain Chevrolet dealership. I'm not gonna say which one it is, but I go up there, I call first. They're like, yeah, yeah, we got this, this, and this, and this is what we got going on. I said, all right, let me go take a look. I come take a look, bro. They're not asking like they used to for these trucks. Brand new, brand new, diesel now, $2,500. $90,000. I was like, no, I ain't doing that. Sorry. I can't I can't afford that. Who can afford that? Who's paying this shit? So, all right, so we I said, alright, so we go through a list of trucks that I like. I said, let me know. I'm not staying around here. I don't like this. I ain't got time for this. I got shit to do. So, and I stopped by while I was up there. When I got back to the house, they had called me and said, Hey, we got you approved, man.
unknownOf course.
SPEAKER_04We got you approved. $2,500 gas, though. This was gasoline because diesel's way out the price. He goes, Well, we got you approved for that $2,500, brand new. I said, How much? He said, $13.50 a month. I said, who in the hell is paying y'all $13.50 a month? Because that ain't me.
SPEAKER_02I ain't doing that. House payment, not car payment. I'm not doing that, bro. Only for 10 years we got you.
SPEAKER_04I'm not right for 10 years. I was like, nah, not happening, bro. And so they're like, come on, man. I'm like, there people do it all the time. I'm like, yeah, if they jump if they if they jump off a cliff, I ain't jumping with them. I'm like, I'm not doing it, bro. Like, find me something cheaper. So they they were like, all right, we're gonna go to used. So we went to some used stuff. The lowest they can get me was $950 a month. I said, y'all are smoking crack. I will not spend that much on a vehicle. And I left.
SPEAKER_02Good for you, man.
SPEAKER_04I ain't doing it, man. I ain't doing it. I that's just that's going like truck broke. Might as well live in the truck. That's horrible. I don't how how are you people paying for this stuff? I I want to know. So anyway, that was my rant. Uh, them people, man, they they piss me off. I hate car I hate car shopping.
SPEAKER_02Me too. I got my truck. I got my car. I'm done.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Good while.
SPEAKER_04I've been looking at I I think I'm gonna I think I'm gonna get a uh a used used diesel truck or work, you know, farm truck uh for the equipment. It's not bad looking. It's uh it's an older Ford, but uh I can get it for like a few thousand dollars, and if it breaks down a well, I can fix it and it's paid for.
Financing Madness And Walking Away
SPEAKER_04So, anyway, moving on, uh we've got to talk about the the world events now. Well, what's uh like we're bombing the shit out of Iran.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean I see you know the gas prices going up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm a little upset with that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a lot of people are. Um I can see two points of view on that.
SPEAKER_04Right. Um but here's my here's my take. Here's my take on this shed. These gas companies are making trillions of dollars. Trillions. And because the higher ups are just padding their pockets more and more dude it's okay not to jack the gas prices up. They need to stop it, needs to stop, bro. Like like you're like we're all bleeding over here. That's that's how I kind of see it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I don't I mean I don't I don't I don't think this was uh say this administration or the previous. I mean it's been going on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's always been but we gotta but well I mean Trump ran on tra changes, so I think we need to have some changes.
SPEAKER_02Trump did say, you know, drill baby drill, you know, that's domestically, so I was thinking, you know, gas prices gonna get better because it's you know in the right within the United States. We're not we're not worried, we're not really relying on Iran or uh or uh oil. Right. Like China is.
SPEAKER_04Well, I you know, just think about it. I mean, Venezuela's gone, Cuba's gone coming right behind it, now you got Iran, and then everybody else. I mean, that's where all Russia and China get their oil from. Yeah. I mean, just think about it. I mean, if we cut them off like that, that's gonna hurt them. I think that's a plan. I think so too. Right. So, I mean, it's gonna be interesting to see. But it's kind of I mean, I'm I'm glad we don't have boots on the ground.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I don't want to see that. Yeah. I mean, because you're going to the belly of the beast in Iran. Them people are crazy, man. Right. They they hollering a la Okbar on the damn planes and go boom and stuff here in the US. Like, what the hell's going on? You see the guy in New York City?
SPEAKER_02You're talking about the on the plane where they had to tackle the guy in the plane? Yeah, that too. Saying that too, America.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and then and then another one was uh the guy had a like a bomb, like he threw, like and the cops had to get him in in New York City, and now uh the mayor's like, oh, it's white people's problem. White people's the reason why I'm like, what the hell, dude? Like, what kind of racist shit is that? Like it's not a lot uh Islamophobia. It's not that at all. They hate America. Why in the hell are you here if you hate it? I don't get it, man. It's just it just baffles me.
SPEAKER_02Well, in my opinion, you go wherever you go, you love the place that you're at. Right, right.
SPEAKER_04You don't do you don't say the shit.
SPEAKER_02I always wondered that about Puerto Ricans that come here and they all have the little flag hanging from their mirror. Right. You know, and driving around with that and nothing against y'all, but I mean you hear Puerto Rican, you know, like I mean Puerto Rica's kind of like that weird area, you know. We had just went over with Bad Bunny because he's Puerto Rican, and you know, not saying he's not American, it's an American territory. It's right not in the continental US. Right. Um kind of like the redheaded stepchild of the U.S.
SPEAKER_04Well, there's a yes, yes, absolutely. I mean, I don't know. So there's there's a clip though I saw with Bill Bill Mayer uh Meyer Bill Mayer, whatever he said. Uh and I'm I'm gonna play it for everybody here. It's pretty, it's pretty he's siding with Trump on this. And Adam Shift was on the show, right? Shifty shift? Shifty shift. No neck, pencil. That dude, that dude needs to go away. There's a lot of them that need to go away.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04I think, but I think America's tired of it because Bill Maher's even siding, and everybody's like, whoa. Yeah, that's that's that's pretty impressive. Listen to it. Let me play this for you.
SPEAKER_00This statement from the administration. The president had the constitutional authority to direct the use of military force because he could reasonably determine that such use of force was in the national interest. That's too vague for you, totally vague. Okay, because that's from Obama about Libya.
SPEAKER_04Yep, yep.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_02So that's pretty cool. Yeah, yeah. All right, so totally unexpected from that.
SPEAKER_04Catching them, catching them like that off guard is is awesome to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Because it just shows you how
World Events And Rising Gas Prices
SPEAKER_04much of TDS they have.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're just in that lane and gonna stay in it no matter what.
SPEAKER_04And of course, Adam Shift after that came back and said, was like, well, you know, uh, backpedal. Well, we're gonna backpedal a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, whatever, dude. You're so full of shit, it ain't funny. Look, man, just just pick an issue, do the right thing. Don't matter who's right, left, right, whatever. The the right thing needs to happen. Don't right, don't pick a side and say the hell with it. I'm just sticking with this one group, you know, just because.
SPEAKER_04Right. Uh and and on another note though, with all this going on across these, I think it was time to show our people, our viewers, what uh our U.S. military motivational video can do.
SPEAKER_02All right. Are you ready? Yeah, let's have it. We need that.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Hang on, let's turn this up a little bit.
SPEAKER_03No more distractions. No more electric tanks, no more gender confusion, no more climate change worship. We are laser focused on our mission of warfighting.
SPEAKER_05We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end, and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into.
SPEAKER_03It's called peace through strength.
SPEAKER_05Look into the eyes of these young Americans who are giving up the best years of their lives in a uniform to serve their nation, they are powered by leading the world to face our friends who will respect us, our enemies will fear us, and the whole world will admire the unrivaled greatness of the United States military. We will be fighting the fight of our armed forces, and we could find this.
SPEAKER_04I didn't know it was a felt because he's kind of figured it was fighting buffer fine.
SPEAKER_05God bless you, God bless our armed forces, God bless our men and women serving overseas, and God bless the United States of America.
SPEAKER_04How cool is that one.
SPEAKER_02Very motivational.
SPEAKER_04Very motivational. But it you know what it makes me very proud that, you know, it I I I've always heard of this, but it really hasn't hit me until now. My my son, you know, he turns 17 on Thursday. Okay, cool. Uh no, no, next next week. He turns 17 next week, and he's signing his Coast Guard paperwork. And so it makes me very proud that my son's going into the Coast Guard, you know, doing something to support, you know, re representing the country. Right. And not being a damn woke purple headbull.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's a moose ring wearing. So few young men, and guess what?
SPEAKER_04And guess what? He's not gonna chop his penis off. Let's hope not. Like, what the hell, people? Like, come on, whatever. All right, so let's move on. We're not chopping penises off. That's it's uh it's a mental health issue. Yes. Uh matter of fact, while I'm here on the show, I award us today for you guys. Oh. My uh, which one is this? Is it is this the octopus one? Uh yes, it is. Yes. Oh, yeah, buddy. I'm telling you, if you ain't got an off-the-hook gear, you're behind, bro. You're behind, you ain't cool. You ain't cool. Yeah, you ain't cool unless you got the off-the-hook salty southern gear, baby. Woo!
SPEAKER_02It's about that time.
SPEAKER_04Yes, it is. You know what? Uh the reason why I wore it is because the weather's getting nice outside.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. You like the colors.
SPEAKER_04I like the colors. It makes me feel good. Hey, like it's happening.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, man. That's that's the area we're at, man. And you know, some nice, you know, the colors go good with the summertime because we're at the.
SPEAKER_04I mean, look at the hat. Look at your one side.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah. I wore mine too. Yep. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04We got we got the hat.
SPEAKER_02Oh, look. I had to mix it up with the Smiths, though. Our friends in the UK. Yeah. Smiths, what's up, Morrissey? Yeah, got a new album, by the way.
SPEAKER_04He is listening to he is a Smiths fan, bro.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh, so for Christmas, what a uh I got you that coffee cup.
SPEAKER_02It's got the yeah, uh, yeah, it's back there. Um, yeah,
Media Clips, Politics, And Hypocrisy
SPEAKER_02it was crazy though. Phil and Salmo, uh lead singer for Pantera, big Smiths fan. I had the shirt on when I met him, and he was like, and it's so funny. At the end of their concert, at the end of Pantera's Amon Amox uh concert, uh-huh, they play a Smith song, which is totally weird. Yeah, yeah. But I was the only dude wearing a Smith shirt to a Pantera concert.
SPEAKER_04Oh, right on. Uh huh. Yeah, but he appreciated it.
SPEAKER_02But Phil got it because he's like, he's like, he's like, yeah, brother. And uh he's got some of his titles to his songs come from the Smiths. That's how big of a fan he is. Is that Vulgar Display of Actually? Is a line uh from a Smith song.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. I remember you, I remember you telling me about that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um and Cemetery Gates is uh he got that title from a song, which is a very popular Pantera song.
SPEAKER_04I know we talked about it, but totally different. Did you know Metallica's going to the sphere, right? They're at the sphere. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Are you thinking about going? Possibly my son wants to go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02I we I mean That dude's doing my son's going on tour at 15 years old. Yeah. Um, he's yeah, he's going to Kentucky to go to this three-day fest.
SPEAKER_04Oh, really?
SPEAKER_02Three or four-day, I don't know. Something, yeah. Um, it's some big fest they're having up there. And uh, yeah, he's going there. Oh, yeah, that's the place he worked at. Uh, one of the dudes from Lamb of God came in last night.
SPEAKER_04Oh, right on! Which one?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. He just one of the guys that he works with was like, oh, that's the dude from Lamb of God.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Randy. I wonder I wonder if it was Randy or not.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. He came in, picked up some food, and um left, but he told me that when I picked him up. Right. That's cool. Yeah, that's cool. I was like, you know, you met Zach Wilde and Phil and Selmo and Rex Brown and Charlie, uh, everybody from Terrorist. But Lamb of God's cool too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, no, no. No, they're cool. They're they're they're awesome. Um yeah, well, speaking of the sphere, uh the sphere, uh Heather and I, I think we're gonna be going out there for her birthday in June to go see Kenny. He's playing during her birthday. So we've been debating, uh, debating about going. So But it's so expensive, man. I don't know if I want like it's cool.
SPEAKER_02The sphere's cool. Like I don't know if you looked at flights lately, man.
SPEAKER_04Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. And it's only getting worse.
SPEAKER_04Well, I tell you what, quit bombing Iran. Like, we're done. We take them all out. If they won't act crazy, let them act crazy, but don't come over here with it.
SPEAKER_02I think everybody agrees that they want, you know, they they know that it needs to happen what's happening in Iran.
SPEAKER_04Right. But it doesn't need to go over.
SPEAKER_02It's don't don't don't delay this. Right. Don't spend too much time in there, I believe is the general census of this.
SPEAKER_04Them people are crazy over there, man. I'm ready for this stuff to stop.
SPEAKER_02Anyway. So, anyway, the story that we're going to tell today, um, since we talked about the meet and greet with Dog and Leland. Yep, yep. That's a good transition into this story because it's about Leland. About Leland.
SPEAKER_04Hey.
SPEAKER_02Leland Chapman.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So Leland Chapman also has got a TV show coming out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, by the time our our event takes place, I believe he'll have uh a couple episodes air. Yep. So um we want to shout that out for Leland. Check out his uh, I think it's on YouTube. I'm not a hundred percent. I think that's what I heard. Yeah, it's gonna be on YouTube. Yeah, um, he did a podcast with Laura Trump and uh discussed it, I believe. And uh we need to watch some of those, actually. Um I think he did, I did this. Uh why I want to say YouTube, it's it's for a freedom of uh speech uh thing that the reason he went with them. Right because he was kind of monitored when he was with A.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_04Uh so this story started out. Uh I was in Charlotte with Matt and a couple other guys. This has been years ago. Yep. Uh, and we were up there for like a week uh tracking a uh a few fugitives down for uh a bondsman up during a cleanup for him. Excuse me. Um, so
Military Pride And Family News
SPEAKER_04while we're up there, you know, we're doing our thing, we're a couple days in there, and I get a phone call from Leland going, Hey man, I need your help in South Carolina. And I'm like, what you got? And he goes, I got a skip. We know exactly where he's living at. We know exactly what he's driving. It's in Columbia, South Carolina. I was like, all right, let me see, let me see how far out I am from where the address is. I said, shit. I said, I'm only an hour away. I said, I can be there an hour, bro. He goes, I'm two hours out. I'm like, cool. I'll get the guys settled here. They're gonna keep doing everything up here. I'll tell I'll split off from them and come meet you down there, and we'll we'll go get them. All right, cool, no problem. Because he had like uh he had Bill Holiday with him and a and a few more other guys uh doing some cleanup.
SPEAKER_02And cleanup's when a uh a bonding company goes under and they kind of stick the insurance companies with uh a bunch of skips.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02So that's what a cleanup is.
SPEAKER_04So I get down there and we meet up behind like a Best Buy, I think. We meet up behind a Best Buy.
SPEAKER_02Didn't you say he was in like a beater? Oh, dude, he was like it as a little bit. This is cool. I mean, you know, that's how you do it, man. You roll up in an in like a nice vehicle. You roll up in something that you totally are inconspicuous.
SPEAKER_04He looked like uh it looked like a station wagon from uh uh National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. And it was it didn't come in rolling, it's smoking. I'm like, dude. I'm laughing. He pops a back trunk up and I'm like, what's up with this damn station wagon, bro? He goes, he goes, man, he goes, would you if you're on a run, do you think a station wagon gonna come get you? Smart, man. I was like, you are you this is true. I had to give it to you. Yeah, so he pops the trunk, he's got everything back there. It's it's loaded to the gill. And we sit there and talk about what's going on, like what we gotta do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So, all right, we uh we look at the apartment complex. All right, cool, cool, cool. This is where we're gonna sit. Leland jump in the car with Leland jumps in the truck with me, and Bill and them, they're in one, they're in the station wagon, and then me and Leland are in my truck, and they set up on one side of the apartment, and we set up on the other. And of course, we're sitting there waiting, you know, uh trying to see what you know what happens. It's at night, but I don't think it's late, so we're just kind of see if he comes out. If he comes out, we're gonna roll up on him and get him. But nothing. After about an hour, hour and a half, nothing. And then so, but between the hour and an hour and a half, me and Leland are cracking jokes, laughing our asses off uh for an hour, hour and a half. It was it was awesome. Leland's a great guy, he's he's a good-hearted guy, great sense of humor. Um, but it was fun. Yeah, so while we're sitting there, and I got this idea from you, dirt chad. Thank you very much. Okay, what'd you do? All right, so we're talking talking about like, well, he's hunkered in for tonight, he ain't coming out. How are we gonna get in that house as third party? So we're like, all right. I was like, I got an idea, guys. And they were like, What? We're on the speakerphone, right? And they go, What you got? I was like, go to the door and knock on the door and say, Hey, I think I hit your car outside. Oh yeah, done that one. And if he's a and if and if he's smart, he'd be like, Oh shit, let me go take a look, and he'll come walking out. They're like, Oh, great idea. I was like, Oh yeah, this is gonna work. And so me and me and Leland are there ready, we're itching. And so uh Bill sends one of his guys up there and he knocks on the door, goes, Hey, I think I uh I think I hit your car outside. It's not bad, but yeah, I think you might want to come look at it. Okay. So he positioned the car, a look like a way, like it, like he thought he hit it. Bro, when he started coming out and he started walking to the car, I saw Bill and his guys running from like a mile, it looked like a mile away. It wasn't a mile away, but I mean, like I said, a far distance. They were running, and dude didn't see him, but he would come from my so I said, Leland, I said, he's on my side, dude. I'm gonna drive up, I'm gonna slam on brakes, get out, and grab him. He said, All right, do it. So he comes up and he gets right in between two cars to his drivers. I come pulling up and he's blocked, he can't go nowhere. Sweet. And I jump out and I grab him. I'm the first one to him. I get him on the ground, get him a handcuff.
