Dog the Bounty Hunter is coming to Wilmington, and we’re finally saying it out loud. We’re hosting a live Off the Hook podcast at The Warehouse On Water on April 19 with Dog, Leland Chapman, and Cecily Chapman, and tickets are already moving. If you’ve ever wanted to see how a real conversation with a bounty hunter unfolds, this is your shot, especially with the VIP experience where you can sit in for the live show and ask your own questions.

We also pull back the curtain on what it takes to put a live event together, from sponsor support to the small details that make the night run smoothly. Then we pivot into the heavier stuff: a viral take on why politics has become so personal, how people handle disagreement, and why that tension spills into policy debates like bail reform and voter ID. Whether you agree or disagree with us, you’ll hear how two working bondsmen think about accountability, public safety, and the real world outcomes behind the headlines.

Rob closes with the story of “Lucy,” a $25,000 bond that goes sideways when she misses court and disappears into a rehab near Nashville. The solution is part street smarts, part paperwork, and part timing: a one way plane ticket to Raleigh, coordination with local police, and a fast decision at the airport when the picture doesn’t match the person. If you like true crime stories, bail bonds insight, and behind the scenes fugitive recovery, this one delivers.

Cold Open And Catching Up

SPEAKER_01

These are real stories, but the names have been changed.

SPEAKER_04

Hey guys, Rob here. I'm Chad. What's up? Uh man, it's another exciting episode coming to you. Man, hey Chad, how do you like my shirt I wore today for you? Oh Willie. Oh Willie, man. I did I bought this in Nashville, Tennessee. Okay. When I was there last. And I was like, you know what? I saw it. I was going through my Georgia's morning trying to figure out what kind of shirt to wear because I know we're doing a podcast. Yeah, I was like, ah, Willie. I gotta I gotta bring Willie in in in the in the picture here. So I can't wait. Uh I'm gonna think I'm gonna try to go see him when he comes to Wilmington here. Let's hope he makes it. Uh very slowly. He's like 95 or something. I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

He's old.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but he's still kicking.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But have you heard his son, uh, Lucas Nelson? No. Sounds just like him.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And very good uh musically, too. He's very talented.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I gotta check him out. I gotta I gotta I gotta introduce you to that.

SPEAKER_05

Um other than that, man, uh they canceled schools today because of uh it's supposed to be this Yeah, we got like a big old like storm kind of thermal wind thing coming through all the on the east coast.

SPEAKER_04

And really ain't much happening.

SPEAKER_05

Not at this moment, no. But uh I hope I hope it kind of goes somewhere else. Yeah, yeah. I just don't I can't I can't believe they canceled school because of it. Yeah, yeah, a lot of them did, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Because it's uh I mean school by have we done by now, it ain't but rained a little bit. Right, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Well I think uh at least um my daughter, she was doing online stuff.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah which is crazy. They've been back in school, and then like in one day you gotta figure out how to do how to sign in and do all the online stuff. Yeah, you know, it's been a while since that took place.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So you know to figure it out in one day and then return back to school the next day. I don't think a lot's gonna get done today.

Live Event With Dog Announced

SPEAKER_04

No, I ain't like I had so much going on. I th they're ripping out my kitchen right now, so it's yeah, I mean, I I was drinking coffee out of a styrofoam cup this morning, it sucked. I gotta do that for a few weeks. I'm not I'm not I'm not happy about it, but whatever. It is what it is. But we got some really cool news to tell everybody here. So this is we haven't even advertised it yet, have we?

SPEAKER_05

I mean you put it on the website, but you haven't really oh yeah, I just literally before we started this, I just changed uh I did the uh artwork for uh for our event. Uh I do them. And so I get to talk with dog and you know, kind of run some stuff by him, uh, Dog the Bounty Hunter and his his wife, Francie, and I'll send them, you know, some AI AI picture stuff that I do.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And uh they you know either say yay or nay, and then they'll share it if they really like it.

SPEAKER_04

Hold on. By the way, do you don't you hate having to wait because you use it so much you have to get a wait to play? Yeah, the 12 hours.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, those of you who use chat GPT know what I'm talking about. Because like if you use it, like it gives you so many times each day, and then after that it cuts you off and it tells you what time you can resume. In fact, I'm coming back up on my time I can resume. It's like 11 45, I can resume, and like it stops me. But like if you don't get your prompts right, right to get your picture right, you know, you're like try to correct it, and then it like says, Nope, you're done until unless you want to buy, you know. I'm like, I do, but I don't want another monthly payment on something stupid. No, right? That I can get this tomorrow if I just wait. So I can wait. A lot of people can't wait.

SPEAKER_04

So so anyway, um get back to our yeah uh news.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, dog contacted me yesterday, was like, hey, I want my daughter to come to the event, Cecily. And so um, she is uh she is gonna be at the event. If you are familiar with the show, you'll know who Cecily was. And um, are you showing the new artwork? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So I I'm gonna switch over.

SPEAKER_05

This hadn't even been put on social media yet.

SPEAKER_04

Exactly. So you guys are the first one. All right, so there's my computer here. All right, yeah. So dog the bounty hunter and Leland Chapman and Cecily. Cecily Chapman.

SPEAKER_04

Uh, there's all kinds of if you if you want, you know, it if you want to come out.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so just pay attention to our uh social media. You know, we'll be putting out more of this, and he will too, as as well.

SPEAKER_04

Um as he do you know, do you know are you do you have any questions you're gonna ask? I mean, I know we we've known him for years.

SPEAKER_05

I've known him for years. There's an episode that me and my wife laugh at when we used to watch it. I mean, as a bondsman, you know, bounty hunter, whatever you want to call us, right? You know, we kind of watch it and like some guys don't like them, and you know, and a lot of it is entertainment. Um, but it's real, it's it's real, you know, how we do stuff kind of, but you know, there's different reasons, you know, people like or dislike it. Um, but there was one episode in particular that we used to think was hilarious. A dude, okay, so dog always catches the guy, and then he's and he rides in the backseat while his his wife at the time, Beth, would drive. He's back there, you know, hanging out with the guy, giving him a cigarette, you know. It's it's kind of what we do. We we calm him down when the when it's all over. Yeah. Because you we want the car ride to be a nice ride back to the jail.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So you you kind of like sit back there and you know, he gives them cigarettes and you know, whatever, and hey, little pep talk, why why'd you do what you did, you know? Right. Trying to, you know, change their ways. And uh, there was one guy in particular that got caught. Um, I think he was with a with an escort or a hooker.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah, I think I remember you telling me.

SPEAKER_05

He goes, hey man, you know, why why'd you why'd you pick up a hooker? He goes, you know, sometimes if you want to change it up, you just gotta put a wig on her. I was like, love advice from dog the bounty hunter, man. He's had like 20 kids. I was I was like, um, but it's fun in your house. Here, put this on.

Sponsors Shoutouts And Thanks

SPEAKER_04

I have no, I have no idea. I haven't really thought about it. Uh, because we, you know, we talk I talk to Leland all the time. And uh, you know, dog, you know, I I haven't really thought about any questions. I'm gonna have to try to figure that one out. Huh. That's uh that's gonna be interesting. But if you guys come and do the VIP experience, you get to ask them yourselves live on our podcast, which will be aired on YouTube and Spotify and all the other good little things that we're on. And it's uh you know, it's gonna be fun. Uh I think we're gonna have like some we'll have food drinks. Um oh, speaking of, I got we gotta say hello and thank you to our damn sponsors. Yeah, we can't forget we Yeah, we've got a couple like so we have a couple of new sponsors. Um but some of them are not up here because we don't have the artwork yet. But uh let me switch this over real quick. Boom! Off the hook bell bonding presents all of our sponsors, the NCBAA, thank you very much.

SPEAKER_05

Pink Monkey monitoring. Um, thank you guys. And the NABA, Michelle Eskonazzi, thank you very much.

SPEAKER_04

Guitar pickers, boys. Thank you so much. You they they take care of me every time I go in there. If we all are your guitar needs, thank you, thank you, thank you.

SPEAKER_05

Momentum distillery. Um, our friend Hunter, he's uh he's gonna be there. Yep. Uh and uh Gross Law Group. Gross Law Group, yep, yep.

SPEAKER_04

And McGee Law Firm, baby.

SPEAKER_05

They're the new ones. McGee. Thanks, Jimmy. Jimmy, Jimmy, and Jimmy, he's the manager. Come on.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, uh, and one more is uh Cousins Deli up here at the Pizzeria.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Cousins Deli.

SPEAKER_04

Uh there they're sponsoring us, and we want to say thank you again for all of your support. If it wasn't for these guys right here, all these sponsors here, yeah, we would not be able to do this. And I want to say thank you to every single one of them from the bottom of our hearts, me and Chad's tiny.

SPEAKER_05

Thank you guys. Thank you for helping us put this event on. We want, we hope we have a great event. And uh anyway, well, let's jump off of that.

Political Clip On Tribal Behavior

SPEAKER_04

So let's get on with the I found this thing on, you know, I go on YouTube and I'm looking at little videos that we can kind of show everybody, you know, kind of give everybody their own thoughts and views, right? Right. And uh I thought about you know how you know how in my family, it we have a lot of conservatives, but you have some liberals in there also.

SPEAKER_06

Uh huh.

SPEAKER_04

And I've got some friends that are liberals, but we but we we all get along, you know, we don't hate each other of it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But I saw this video and I thought it was very interesting. It was another like a YouTuber um that came up with this. So let me see if I can I'll get this started. Come on. There we go. All right, here we go.

SPEAKER_00

Blessing. More and more people are finally waking up.

SPEAKER_07

When I was a liberal and I would confront a conservative who had different beliefs than I did, 99% of the time, they would engage me with the ideas. They would tell me what they thought and why. Or they would maybe just kind of brush me off like, okay, classic liberal. They would never come for me personally, like my character or any sort of like ad hominem, and they certainly would never cut me off as a friend or a family member, whatever. It has been the complete opposite experience as a conservative. So not only have I had friends cut me off, like lifelong friends, I have family members cut me off because I have conservative views, they don't even try to engage me on points, they just cut me off. But I have never, truly, like never had any liberal really engage me on a point, on the central point. But it's actually hilarious how publicly those liberals will stitch me and be like, oh my gosh, this girl, she's like so gross and how she looks, and uh, where's her man and all these things? And it's like, you know, you're just publicly showing the world that you have no backing to your idea and that you have nothing intelligent to say to my points. Like the worst you'll hear from a conservative in my experience is like you're a liberal snowflake, whatever. But I mean, it is like cruelty of the left. It's actually insane.

SPEAKER_00

And this is not a surprise. In case you didn't know, CBS News published the result of a study proving that indeed liberals are three times more likely than conservatives to block and infraint people over politics. I'm telling you, it happens, man.

SPEAKER_04

I'm telling you, I I saw that, I was like, very interesting. Um, because it it's like that, man. Like conservatives here, you know, we'll pick on your purple hair and your damn and your damn nose ring and and and you know, and say whatever snowflake, and just keep on moving. But liberals, if you disagree with them, they're gonna come up and you start screaming, yeah, try to run you over like they did, you know. Like it it's it's bad.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I'm just listening to a uh podcast on uh Stephen Crowder that has a valid liberal liberalism and and like how you see most of them, like up in Minnesota, right, are mostly white females.

SPEAKER_04

That that's the problem with America.

Nashville Crime And Bail Reform

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, well, it we know that, but like they go into depth on what's what's going on with them. It's pretty good episode.

SPEAKER_04

Well, speaking of liberals and how they like backing everybody else but us, yeah. Um uh there's a story I've I've read it a few times, it's shown it's come across my feed, and I think I I've got to share it, man. Uh uh, because it's exactly the reason, reasoning why North Carolina did away with bail reform. It's because of this shit right here. So this story comes out of Nashville, Tennessee. This came out last week. I don't know when it happened, but it was here lately. And just surprisingly, so and I hate it for the lady. This is um a 34 the 34-year-old woman was raped to death on the front steps of a Nashville, Tennessee church in public under street lights, caught in progress by firefighters. Her accused killer, you know what he was? Somalian. A 39-year-old Somali repeat offender with multiple identities and 16 prior sexual battery, indecent exposure, trespass, drug offenses, and more. Wow. So you tell me uh and look at him.

SPEAKER_05

He's that was put out by David Harris Jr. Yeah. So I mean that pretty legit source.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. It's been all it's been all over my feed. So I mean if we can't get behind, all right, all right, so the people in Somali, they live different than Purdue. They live like uh they're they're they're cuckoo for cocoa puffs. How about that one?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I mean, is there really like some kind of genetic thing going on with them? I mean, they kind of have like certain traits that you can like a big head? Like a big head, like a yeah, like a watermelon head. Yeah, and like them little like shark teeth, little baby foul teeth. Man, I don't know. Dolphin teeth or whatever they got going on.

SPEAKER_04

I tell you what, Ilian, Ilian Omar Omar.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But it sounds like when she talks, she's like hawking a loogie if you know. I can't stand her. I can't stand that woman. I don't know why she's able to even run for public office. I mean, for I for for a long time I thought in order to run in our government, to be in our government, a congresswoman, congressman, whatever, or House, that you gotta be a US citizen. That's what I thought. But evidently not. Right. Why the hell not? Other countries are not doing it. Like, why why are we doing it? It's just because I think because of that, it gives opportunity for other people in other countries to take advantage of the US and our and our tax dollars. And that's what they've been doing all these years.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah, and I see that.

SPEAKER_04

And the Democrats and Democrats want to vote. And that's how they do it. Or just let you get away with it, just vote for us.

SPEAKER_05

Right. Right.

SPEAKER_04

So well It's like this like the voter fraud, like the uh what's that um the new uh law that's being passed right now? Uh the voter ID. Voter ID, okay, yeah, yeah. So I mean they're they're saying it's uh it's racist and everything. It's not racist.

SPEAKER_05

I saw a video they walking around asking you know people in you know lower income neighborhoods, you know, what do you think about IDs? Have an ID. I got an ID, you know. Like, are you capable? Yeah, I got an idea. Yeah, it was it was common. Everybody they asked. I mean so it's kind of BS that you know they come up with this rule, this you know, and I think the other one was cause of married like spouses or something, and yeah. Um it's it's ridiculous.

Voter ID Talk And Foreign Policy

SPEAKER_04

But yeah, well, you know, it I mean, what's the difference between flying an airplane and driving a car or going to an event that you gotta have your ID for? Oh, yeah. Going to a bar.

SPEAKER_05

That's right. Yeah, you know, ID.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think it's all it's all just yeah playing with stuff. So uh other than that, man, uh did you hear that in Iran we keep taking out the leaders?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I hear they elected a new one or appointed one, and he gets taken out. He lasted about a day, I think, if that.

SPEAKER_03

When are they gonna learn, bruh? You just gonna keep it. Your next buddy. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Daddy Trump, Daddy Trump, no, and don't don't shoot.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I need they need to they need to be done with that over there, though, honestly.

SPEAKER_04

Um yeah, because I'm tired of paying these gas prices.

SPEAKER_05

Well, Jesus. I mean, everybody wants the best. I mean, they want this and that, but they there don't there is there is sacrifices that will happen, unfortunately, right for the greater cause of what is to come, you know, what you're in hopes of to me though, that's the last thing you need to do is jack up oil prices, especially when that's it, you know. Yeah, it hinges on everything, food, you know. I I get it, I yeah, you know, but that's where where we're at. So we they do need to get out of there, I think. Um they you know, make sure that they've done enough to ensure that they're not going to we see Bill Maher. You know, Bill Maher was like, hey, so very yeah, I saw where he said about Trump if he does uh Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran. Correct, all three that he should get the Nobel. Wow, you know, take them out. Yeah. That's right.

SPEAKER_04

So our story of the week.

Lucy’s Bond And The Forfeiture

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so we're gonna do Lucy.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, well, Lucy.

SPEAKER_05

Lucy the drugie that uh she was at Meth Head, I think.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, heroin, is a meth or heroin?

SPEAKER_05

This is one of the two those felony charges, yeah. Um decent bond, not incredibly big, but if I recall. Um, but yeah, this was kind of I think I helped you on, but I wasn't I don't know if I was around when you you had to go do this one. Right. So you started off, what what all what all went on?

SPEAKER_04

All right, so I get this I I knew I I've known this girl for a long time. So me and her cousin went to high school, grew up in school together. Yeah, I remember living and uh I knew her through him, just like her coming to the house when she was looking, because she was like a couple years younger, younger than us. So she lived down here and she had gotten in trouble a couple times, you know, like small trouble.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_04

And we bonded her out. And the first time she was like, hey, I'm I'm such and such because I'm like, Oh, I ain't seen you in front. How you been? Yeah, what are you doing in there? You know, get talking to her, right? Yeah, so let me let me explain to you something about Lucy here. Lucy is cray, cray. Lucy called me one day from the jail crying. I we because we ain't we ain't heard from her for a while. And she did everything and she did everything she was supposed to. And she was like, hey, I got all this money. I just you know, I want a lawsuit and blah blah blah. I got money to pay it. I know my you know, I got I got co-signers and everything. I'm like, okay, cool. Well, I mean, all right, I'll I'll get you out because I know you now one thing you always told me, Chad. What's that? Don't do a bond unless you feel like you can put your hands on them. Right. Right, right. Right. I've always there's there's a few key little things that Chad's always told me that's stuck with me. That's one of them.

SPEAKER_05

That little pearl was from uh David Beasley. Yeah, he told me and it stuck with me.

SPEAKER_04

And another one is just because the light bills do don't mean you have to do it. Yeah, a little bit up front mean a lot in the rear. Yep. So I mean, so these little things have like stuck with me over time, all right. So all Lucy here, um we go get her out. All right, it's a$25,000 bond. Okay, it's an it's a hefty little bond. Yep. So we do we do the bond and and she puts her, you know, she paid off house. Brand new house off on Gordon Road up here. So I'm like, all right, so she put you know our house up for collateral. I'm like, all right, so we're collateralized, we got the money, we're good to go, right? Feel good about it. All right, feel good about it. Well, some time goes by and I get a forfeiture in the mail, and of course, you you know, you when you get them, you're like, oh my god, it's Another problem. Well, you open up the envelope and I see the name and I'm like, you gotta be shitting me. I'm like, damn it. Now, like, what are we gonna do? Well, I figured because I knew her and you know, and everything that that we had, we we kind of figured, you know, what's going on? Well, uh sounds like to me she went and got some money off of her house and she got like she didn't pay the money back, so the bank took her home. This is the whole time we were like, you know, before she missed court. Right. And we didn't hear nothing. So the bank took her home, so I'm like, oh God, now we gotta, you know. Yeah, so now we gotta figure this out. So I'm calling around, I talked to her mama. Her mama goes, Well, she got bad on drugs again. Well, no, she know. I'm like, so where's she at? Well, she's in a rehab here in uh right at in Tennessee. It was in Tennessee, it was it was near Nashville. So another reason, you know, where's her today? So I'm like, all right, so what what's up? And she was like, Well, she she wants to handle this. She's she's about to get out any day now. I'm like, okay, great. So what do we do? And she goes, Well, see if you could talk to her about coming back to handle her stuff. I'm like, all right, well, this is gonna be a pain in the ass. So it took me about two to three weeks to convince her, hey, come on back, uh, and when you get to Raleigh, just let me know, and I'll, you know, uh we'll have uh a van to pick you up so you can do your uh your rehab here. Because she was gonna do it here too.

SPEAKER_05

So Raleigh, for those of you who don't know, is about two hours drive for us. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, so this is good stuff. Uh I'm getting to the good part.

SPEAKER_05

It's a airport. We have another airport here, but Raleigh's a larger hub.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was it's the capital, North Carolina.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So here comes the good part.

SPEAKER_05

Uh-huh.

Airport Pickup And Handcuffs

SPEAKER_04

She goes, okay. She goes, well, I ain't got no money. I was like, I'll buy you a ticket. Yeah. And she goes, Well, you do we you would do that? I was like, You damn right I would.$25,000 bond, you betcha. I'll buy your ticket. So I bought her a ticket. I I took the chance and bought her a ticket. The whole time I'm telling, I'm telling Chad about this, right? He's like, Well, I hope it works. I'm like, Yeah, me too, because if not, we're going to Nashville. Yeah. So uh, so I get her a ticket, and I knew when she was landing. I kept up with it the whole night. So I get up there to Raleigh early, right? I let RPD uh uh the Raleigh police. Yeah. So I let them know what's going on. And they were like, all right, cool, no problem. We're gonna we're gonna get her up from the terminal. I'm like, all right, cool. So I'm gonna sit here and hang out by the exit where everybody walks out. I said, if you're gonna be up at the terminal, this is what she looks like. Did not know that she didn't look like her picture.

SPEAKER_05

Really?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, dude. And they she got past them.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm sitting there because I ain't got much faith in local PDs.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we've had bad experiences with them guys.

SPEAKER_04

So I'm sitting at exit looking, I'm like, I thought they were supposed to get her. And she's walking towards me. I'm like, huh. Well, ain't no time like the present. Ain't nobody around. I'm glad I got my cuffs on me. I'm like, hey, Lucy. She's like, what? What are you doing here? I'm like, yeah, show me your hands. And I'll put her in handcuffs. And they see, no, here come all the cops from we oh, I was like, Yeah, yeah, here she's right here. Well, she don't look like that no more. I'm like, I told you she might not, but whatever.

SPEAKER_05

So they Did you only give them one picture?

SPEAKER_04

I I gave a couple pictures.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, okay, because I mean that's one thing is like, you know, give people like a picture, and like they just it's gotta look exactly like that. That's why I give variations of right if you can. Right.

SPEAKER_04

You know, so uh so okay, so um, so I get her handcuffs and she's mad, boy. She's mean mugging to hell, and you I can't believe you done that did this to me. I'm like, look, I can't believe you went all the way to Nashville, didn't tell me, didn't miss it.

SPEAKER_05

You left the course jurisdiction without permission.

SPEAKER_04

And I was like, you and that's 25,000. Well, I had to have my house. I was like, you ain't got your house no more.

SPEAKER_02

He already paid it, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

But we can't get them to go to court to fix it, and we're running out of time. Yeah. What would you do? What would you do?
