Off The Hook
We are a group of private investigators, bounty hunters / fugitive recovery agents, and bail bondsmen that have been in this line of work for over twenty five years and have many stories to tell. We have traveled all over the country catching fugitives and bringing them back to have their day in court. With our years of experience we are trying to educate the public about bail and why it is a needed part of our judicial system.
Off The Hook
Bike Week In Myrtle Beach And Candy The Probation Absconder
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A loud Mother’s Day weekend at the House of Blues turns into something bigger when we shift from concerts and travel talk to the real work behind bail bonds. We start with family time in Myrtle Beach, Zakk Wylde doing double duty on stage, and what it feels like when a legendary guitarist steps into the crowd. Then we look ahead to a summer break in Las Vegas, why the Sphere has us curious, and why we’d rather spend money on a great meal than a casino table.
From there, we hit the headlines that have everybody on edge: airlines in trouble, people getting stranded far from home, and the bigger question of who pays when a bailout fails. We also get candid about “new virus” chatter, mask fatigue, and why trust in the news feels broken. Add gas prices and political promises, and it’s easy to see why regular people feel like they’re always reacting instead of getting real answers.
Then we get into the story that anchors this week: Candy, a drug probation absconder we’d bonded out before, who misses court on a sizable bond and runs across the state line. We walk you through the fugitive recovery process step by step, how we narrowed her location to Little River, South Carolina, the moment we spotted the blue Honda, and the risky driving that forced a quick decision. When we realized there was a child in the back seat, the job stopped being just “get the skip” and became about doing the right thing under pressure. The ending is a gut punch, and it’s a reminder that the criminal justice system is full of real people and real consequences.
If you value honest stories from working bail agents, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a rating and review so more people can find the show.
Mother’s Day And A Metal Show
SPEAKER_01What's happening, everybody? Rob here.
SPEAKER_02Chad over here. What's up?
SPEAKER_01Hey, I hope y'all had a good Mother's Day. I hope you had a good one.
SPEAKER_02Did we uh got to go down to Myrtle, see my mom, you know, uh me and my boy, cuz it just so happens. Oh yeah. Just so happens. Tell us about it, bro. Um, Zach, Zach Wilde, for those of you who don't know, uh, lead guitarist for Ozzy Osborne for several years until Ozzy passed. And and the lead guy for Black He started his own thing called Black Label Society. Yes. And also he has a thing that's a tribute to Ozzy called Zach Sabbath. So we saw them, and it was a dark chapel opened up for them and uh House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. They're out of Las Vegas. Um they were good, they were very good. In fact, the guitarists for them came and played. Um Zach did Double Duty, he did Zack Sabbath, and then he did um Black Label Society.
SPEAKER_01And um I saw some of the videos, man, that looked pretty cool. Dude, he came out in the crowd.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know if you know I didn't see that part. Yeah, so there was a part during uh and like he walked off stage and the band kept playing, and he walked off and uh he popped up right behind us. Oh yeah? There was like we were like real close to the center front, and um there was like three rows back behind us, and like he was he popped up in the middle there, and dude was like playing his guitar like over his head, uh-huh, you know, yeah, you know, it was it was it was awesome, you know. But the dude's he's one of the best, I mean, of all time. I mean to get to see the guy, you know. My son loves it, and uh we had a good time.
SPEAKER_01If you gotta open up for all these people and play with all these other people and Ozzy, you gotta be badass, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean you gotta be badass. He gets his pick of who he has play for him, you know. Right. So that says a lot. Right. But um, yeah, he's still jamming, man.
SPEAKER_01He played and that's kind of a cool Mother's Day little thing to get to get away.
SPEAKER_02Got to spend time with my mom. It's right down the street from Passablu. She's she lives close to there. So um, you know, to my boy. And it was bike week, so you know, it was it was something to see. They had like all these uh bike tents set up and they were customizing all these these Harleys and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01And um I hate bike week down there. I try to stay away from it down there.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, it was the beginning of it, so it wasn't too bad, but like everybody at the show looked like a biker. You know, we we we try to blend, but I'm too clean-cut looking, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, you don't look like a biker at all.
SPEAKER_02No, no, but we had a great time, man. Great music. But anyway.
SPEAKER_01Hey, good time, man. Got to see mama. How's my duke's my duke doing good?
SPEAKER_02Good, she's good.
SPEAKER_01Um, she's still she's I'm telling you, man, that that woman, you can't you ain't gonna be able to stop her, bro.
SPEAKER_02She's she's doing all right, man.
SPEAKER_01So um well, cool. Hey, mama, I'm sure you're watching. We love you.
SPEAKER_02Happy Mother's Day, so um man, uh got my pops coming this weekend, by the way.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah, got some. Yeah, he's coming Friday.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait to see him. Yeah, he's getting on up there, man.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, but he man, he's like more like he's old school, like you stick him in the woods, man.
SPEAKER_02Well, he lives in the woods, in the mountains.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you stick him in the woods and you leave him alone and he can survive by himself. You know, he's one of them folks.
SPEAKER_02He has for a long time.
SPEAKER_01And that's that's pretty cool. That'd be good to see him. So anyway, what's going on?
Vegas Plans And The Sphere Hype
SPEAKER_01So I told you, you know, we were talking about this morning. Um, you said Las Vegas, and it brought it come up to I can't wait. Because I'm finally going to take a little break and get away here in June, go see Kenny Chesney at the sphere in Vegas.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I'm not I guess I'm not a big fan of Vegas.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm not either. I mean, it's sphere looks interesting though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I want to go, it's 66,000 speakers in that place. Wow. So I mean, I want to go to experience one time and to go to the and to go experience with my favorite artists. Like, you know, like say if you went and saw like Metallica or or Pantera there, you know, and they did a show because Metallica's doing one there.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01It's pretty cool, you know. You kind of want to experience it. So yeah, I'm kind of excited, but I'm not excited about everything else in Vegas. Yeah. So Heather's been trying to get me excited about uh some of these places to go eat at. Like there's some cool places.
SPEAKER_02I mean Oh, oh, I meant to tell you, um, in Myrtle um at the uh Bass Pro, uh uh Guy Fieri's putting in a place. Oh shit. Yeah, I forget what it was called. Um, I was like, we were riding by there because it's House of Blues to my mom's is like the um the Bass Pro is like literally in the middle of it. It's in the middle in between those two. And uh we're riding by because we like going in there and um we looked over there and I was like, what is that? You know, it was like this big bright colored uh thing going up. I had no idea what it was, and then I you know got down there to my mom's and her husband was telling me that uh Guy Fieri's making a place, so that's gonna be kind of cool to check out.
SPEAKER_01I can't wait to check that out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, that's pretty cool. Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I thought I'd mention that.
SPEAKER_01Um, no, no, no. That's great. That's closer to home to Vegas is. There's a nice Italian spot. It's got every day's got some big pizza in down in Vegas. That she sent me a TikTok on it, and I was like, all right, we gotta go try it. At least, you know, go go eat at least. Um I'm not big of a gambler. Yeah. Uh I don't like throwing my money away. Um but it's whatever, we're gonna have a good time. So uh let's see, what's in uh what's in some news lately?
Spirit Airlines And Stranded Travelers
SPEAKER_01Um how about Spirit Airlines? You you're done.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, um what's gonna like all right? So I don't know, but flights have been kind of crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, the gas too, you know, and speaking, you know, and well so Elizabeth Warren and all of them did a bailout for this is what I'm understanding now. They did a bailout for Spirit Airlines to keep them running, right? Well, where they do it, and then they say, all right, well, Spirit goes, Well, we tried this with a little bit.
SPEAKER_02She's one millionth of an Indian uh heritage, right? I guess.
SPEAKER_01Remember, she told Pocahontas. Um yeah, I don't know what's going on with that. Like then they shut down, so all the taxpayer money got wasted. And then did you hear about all the people it's not their money, they don't care. They don't give shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But did you hear about all the people they stranded like in different like countries?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I didn't hear about all that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, people got stranded like Jamaica and like all the Dominicans, stuff like that. People got stranded and couldn't get back home, which I mean, it's like, what the hell do you do? When you're like, what do you do?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Dude, I'd I'd go straight in like fight mode if I was in another country and couldn't get back. But that's the whole reason why I've never flown it.
SPEAKER_02So what's the um the next thing uh we're gonna talk about with this this new virus?
New Virus Talk And Vaccine Skepticism
SPEAKER_02Is the timing couldn't be better, right? Yeah, all right, couldn't be better. Let's get ready to lock up America again. So I know, I know a bunch of Libby's are getting ready to get their mask in their 9,000 mask out. I'm waiting to see a Darth Vader helmet, you know, with the breathing, you know, they're gonna have that on.
SPEAKER_01Um uh I'm ready, I'm ready to see what happened.
SPEAKER_02What is it called? I dude, I literally took a I I heard something about the meaning of the word. Is it honavirus or what is it called?
SPEAKER_01I I don't know. It it's it's weird.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, okay. So the actual HANT H-A-N-T-A, and I said hanta definition in Google, and literally it says hanta means nonsense, a lie, a scam, a hoax, or something totally fake. Okay. It is use colloquy to dismiss a story or situation as garbage, similar to saying full of crap, load of bull or rubbish. So that is literally the AI definition of it.
SPEAKER_01Do you think that the virus is bullshit?
SPEAKER_02I'm I'm I'm I'm I don't know, like I won't be getting any kind of shot from it. So and I and I don't think a lot of people will.
SPEAKER_01I didn't do the first one or the second or the third or the fourth. Neither did I. I didn't get none of them, and guess what? I've never had I'm still here.
SPEAKER_02I'm still here, and still healthy. Yeah. As far as I know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, so I did I like I wondered why I always wondered why I never got it. And the only thing I can think of and that I read that's been like like studied is I have O positive blood. And so co COVID, the the virus does not like to attach to O positive blood cells.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's a good theory.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I mean it is. I I mean I'm over here with my little aluminum hat on, you know, you know, firing over here, but you know, who knows, man, because you don't know what to believe. Yeah. I mean, you know, you the damn the news
Gas Prices And Trusting The News
SPEAKER_01is all fucked up from both sides. You can't figure it out in either way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just like this whole thing with Trump supposed to be like cutting the the federal tax on gas to make it cheaper. I ain't seen a damn gallon come down yet.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I I just heard that and I don't know if that actually got approved or whatever. I heard he was working on getting that done. So at this moment we're recording this, that's what I had last heard.
SPEAKER_01But I hope so. Shit. I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It cost me $225 the other day to to move a tree from uh Leland to Hampstead and fuel.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Who knows? Who knows? Who knows?
SPEAKER_02But I mean, it's amazing. I got into some stupid argument online with people that are complaining about gas price. I get it, I get it. But do you know it also was very high under Biden. It was. It's high now, but it was really high under Biden. And like I had people literally telling me I didn't pay more than $2.30 under Biden. Bullshit. You weren't driving or something.
SPEAKER_01But here, but here, I I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna play the devil's advocate here. You know, you like I've said it before, you ran on affordability, you ran on getting the gas prices down, and now this shit's happening. Like, come on, did he not know he was gonna attack Iran?
SPEAKER_02Dude, he said way back about Iran. There's comments of him saying that. I mean, listen, we're we're gonna tell you the truth one way or another. I mean, I remember seeing video of him saying, you know, that I re Iran would be um taken over back in the day.
SPEAKER_01You know, and I like like who are they talking to, like doing negotiations? That's my my question. I'm I'm gonna ask some simple, simple questions. All right, who are you talking to over there? Because you've taken out everybody under the sun. So who do you talk to? Oh, yeah, what's left? What's left? What are what are they what's actually going on over there?
SPEAKER_02I've been out of the loop of news, man.
SPEAKER_01Me too. Well been trying to, man. This is where this is where we need to go sell coconuts on the island, man.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
Listener Thanks And Story Setup
SPEAKER_02I mean, you know, this this show is it's about us telling stories and going to go get people. We throw in a little bit of current topics, you know, that we see. Um, we like your input. We're getting some more input, especially since the whole dog event. Oh, yeah, and by the way, we have reached a plateau another level, excuse me. Uh, with our show. Thanks you to all you people that watch. Thank you. Keep watching. Yeah, um, we thank, you know, thank you for that. But um, yeah, that that's put us in another place. So we're gonna we're gonna continue to improve on things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, thank you very much. Uh thank you for subscribing. Uh, thank you for liking and watching all of our videos. Keep doing it and spread the word.
SPEAKER_02I always feel weird asking people can you like subscribe? You know, I feel like one of those people, but we do appreciate you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I know. You gotta, you know, you gotta do the whole dog and pony thing, you know. Anyway, let's get on with our on to the uh story of the week is uh it is Candy.
Candy Misses Court And Disappears
SPEAKER_01Candy. I forgot the name for a second.
SPEAKER_02Candy, the probation, drug probation absconder.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02And uh yeah, so do we we have an intro or anything like that?
SPEAKER_01Or do we hold on? Ready?
SPEAKER_02Story time. I can I can tell story too much. That's it. There we go. That's all you get. We don't want to strike. Nope. We like the intro.
SPEAKER_01Nope, because we like the monotone. Anyway. So, all right, so Candy. All right, so let's talk about Candy for a minute. Candy, uh, we have bonded out uh a few times. Yep. And she was always she would get in trouble uh uh a couple times, then get out, and then go, you know, she would get her kind of knew Candy was gonna be a return person with this problems.
SPEAKER_02Um you hope not. I mean you never can tell. We try to help the best we can, and but some people it just won't change.
SPEAKER_01Just on the register. Yeah, yeah. So Candy here, she misses court on us, and it's a pretty hefty bond. I won't say it was a 10 or 12,000. I it was somewhere around there. Right. And of course, we get it in, I'm like, all right, this should be easy to handle, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you would think so. Negative. Yeah. Things change over time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So of course, Chad and I start doing our due diligence, unlike some other agencies in our area that don't do. Hey. Hey, had to throw that one out there.
SPEAKER_02Uh we just I'll leave. Yeah. You did get a check on reality check on our competition here lately.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, not much of a competition.
SPEAKER_02Tell me what's wrong with you guys. But go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Candy. Uh, we were doing our we do our due diligence because that's what we do. And uh we find out she's not in the Brunswick County area.
SPEAKER_02No, so for you guys listening, you gotta keep in mind people don't know where she is.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Um, so we sit in Wilmington, Brunswick County is like across the Cape River, Leland, not Chapman, the city. Yeah, it's and and it extends down to the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina line. Yeah, it's where that that county is. That's where she lives. So it's not too much of an ordeal for people. They do it all the time. They skip over the state line and go down to Myrtle Beach.
SPEAKER_01That's where I think they're safe down there because they think they think we can't touch them, but we can always go over to Myrtle Beach. We we have that right to uh cross state lines where cops don't so uh with the due diligence that we were doing, uh we found out she's not she's not in Brunswick County, she's in Ory County. Right, which is the county that's the first county you come to when you come into South Carolina. And so we we're we're talking to we're talking to some family members and we're talking to the a the baby daddy or boy ex-boyfriend or something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she had she had a small child.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I get I can tell you, all right, so the boyfriend's gonna come in at the very end of the story. Uh and the ex-boyfriend or whatever he was. He's coming in at the end of the story, and it's it's gonna be a shocker. So you know it, but um, it's gonna be a shocker for the end of the story. Right. So anyway, so we're talking to him and he's like, Yeah, I know where she's at. You know, uh she he was also under a domestic violence order where he wasn't supposed to contact her, but he they still contacted each other. It's like, you know, it happens, you know, they get they they get a strain order out on each other, they still contact each other. Happens all the time.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes they're waiting out in the parking lot for him to come out of jail. Yeah, I know, right? Who they got the order against.
SPEAKER_01Right. So um I look at Chad, I'm like, Chad, we got enough information from mama and from the ex that we know the roundabout where she's
Tracking Leads Into South Carolina
SPEAKER_01at. She's in Little River, South Carolina.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so this is in a hotel. This is right across the state line. And Little River's not big. And so that's so Little River is the beginning of Myrtle Beach. So it's where there's a lot of fire fireworks stands. I mean, a lot of people know Myrtle Beach. It's like a very transient place. You know, people come from other states to vacation and stuff like that. So Little River is just where you start to get into Myrtle Beach and it's crowded. There's a tag on boat with a canopy. Never mind. It's like it's it's a drinking boat going by. Anyway, um, so um, yeah, so there's a lot of hotels, motels, bars, you know, like all kinds of little CD joints that you know, anybody's not much there though. Yeah, it's not as far as like she's not working.
SPEAKER_01There's only a few stoplights in this in this office office 17, and everything office 17 is like houses.
SPEAKER_02So we figured out a certain area that we were told she was in. And I remember we went there, there was a gas station, so we're gonna go back to the room.
SPEAKER_01We're going the back way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's a back road, there's a light, there's an intersection, and at that intersection is a gas station.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02That's a prime place for someone like her to go get their cigarettes, their vapes, or whatever the hell. It all comes from that little corner store. Right.
SPEAKER_01You know, so and so we're sitting at the stop by we come in.
SPEAKER_02Oh, hell, hold on, before we get there, we go to the we go to there, you know, and we show her little pictures on the phone on her phone of of her. And, you know, depending on who's working, you know, you say, Oh yeah, uh I've seen her, you know, we get positive. Yeah, I've seen her come in a couple times. And um it's you know, enforces what we thought.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02You know. And so we sit there in the parking lot for a while, wait, and open she'll come in. We ride around, we leave there, we go through this. I remember it was like a little neighborhood up the street. Then we're coming back, and we were in line at the light, and we're sitting there trying to figure out our next move, and we had had a make and model of the car. Yeah. It was like a little blue Honda.
SPEAKER_01There were stickers on the back of it, remember?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. So those are identifying marks. It's just like tattoos on a person plate. Yeah, we had a license plate. And we're literally sitting there at the light, and I'm like, hey Rob. What's up? What's up, buddy? It's a it's a blue Honda Accord, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02About a about a 92. Yeah. And uh Wow, what's up? What's that license plate? Because there's one right there. I mean, look. And uh that's it. I mean, there's a lot of cars in this area. I mean, you gotta understand Myrtle Beach is very busy. And this was, if I recall, it was late spring, kind of like now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it was about the time.
SPEAKER_02So this is when things are happening down
The Blue Honda Chase And Block-In
SPEAKER_02there, you know, warmer it gets.
SPEAKER_01Evidently, she sees us the same time we see her. And she remember she jets through the yeah, she took a quick write at the light, which you can do. No, she she went through the gas station.
SPEAKER_02Oh, she cut through the gas station, that's right.
SPEAKER_01And we didn't, we just sat there and we're like, where is she going? They did see us. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So we made a right. Yeah, got behind her. She had a good little jump on us, got was going down the road and like weaving in between traffic. Because I mean, I think this is like a four-lane.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and as soon as, like, as soon as we we get, you know, get you know, in on 17, not far after that, she gets in a turn lane and it makes it.
SPEAKER_02She whipped to the left. I thought she went down the road. It's like a loop.
SPEAKER_01No, no, she did a Yui first, yeah. And then when she because she was coming towards us, so I just kind of got in a turn lane and and turned around and got behind her. And then she turned off into a neighborhood, which we won't speeding. We were going down to a neighborhood and she would jet down. But what the problem is the neighborhood, there was no way in or no way out.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01There was only you you can only go.
SPEAKER_02She was panicking, you know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I was like, hey, Chad, I'm gonna cut over because she can't get out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I'm gonna cut over. And what did we do? So we cut, or we cut over. Here she comes flying up right in front of us and passes us. Yeah. And so I get in behind her and she's stuck. And so I get in, so she's stuck there, and I go
Child In The Car And Next Steps
SPEAKER_01around her and I get between the car in front of her and her and like block her in. I get out, yeah. And I'm like, what are you? I'm screaming at her, going, What are you doing, you crazy lady? You're gonna kill somebody.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it turned out she had her kid in the back seat, too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And um, so we get her in handcuffs, we get the car out of the road, yeah. Um, and then she's like, Well, I got my little boy in the backseat. I'm like, what the hell are we gonna do with a little boy? Uh we can't leave him here.
SPEAKER_02Right, right. She says, I remember she's had uh she was staying at a hotel down the street. Yeah. And she wanted to uh I don't know, was it There's somebody there or no, she had to go get his stuff. She had to get stuff from there. I remember that. But I was trying to remember. Did she call a family member or something to get the she called, she called mama, her mama. Yeah, so grandma. I don't know how mom grandma knew where she at, right? You know, the whole time, but not.
SPEAKER_01But she was but she was telling us little bits of information that that uh we were picking out, going, hey, this is the truth, this is not. We know us what. So of course we're uh we were like, all right, uh, Candy, you you know us, we know you. We'll we'll go and get your kids' stuff. Right. And we'll pack it in a car, and I'll put his car seat in it, and we'll take it to grandma's house.
SPEAKER_02Eventually she accepted that the thing was over. Right. You know, so she she kind of cooperated from that point.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And so we we went we went to uh grandma's house after yeah, she packed up her stuff, and we we took her over there, we and we got the kid to let her say goodbye. You know, we won't we were not assholes. Right. Not every not all of us are assholes. I mean, yeah. Right. And um I remember McNichols meeting us out there.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so he had a warrant. And yeah, I mean take her off her hands for us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so so McNichols comes out there and meets us, uh, it takes him from her, and then the the ex-boyfriend was out there also at the same time. It was weird. And I'm like, don't ain't there a restraining order, but you can't be around her, but now she's getting locked up, so it doesn't matter. Like, I don't get it, right? So Candy goes to jail, she gets out, and she gets her stuff together, and then we see her, she gets arrested a couple more times after this, and we don't bond her out no more because we're we're done with her, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, once we have to do that, it's like you know, you kind of burn your bridge.
SPEAKER_01And then come to find out Candy ex-boyfriend, they they moved in together, or they they got back together, they moved in somewhere towards that
The Shocking Ending After Release
SPEAKER_01the the the North Carolina, South Carolina, somewhere around there. And she went missing, and come to find out he murdered her. Um not too far from the house. They found her body in a laying in a field somewhere. And the ex-boyfriend, or the boyfriend, whatever you want to call him, went to the boyfriend. The guy we saw. Yeah, I know, right? And then so now, now, you know, of course, she was pretty young, too. I think the little boy's father is like in prison or something, so that little boy ain't got nobody now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like there's some sad cases, man, where you know.
SPEAKER_01It is, man. And and it's all because of drugs and alcohol.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's usually how the story is.
SPEAKER_01Like heroin, meth, yeah, lickle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, lookle. I've never had a story that started with I was eating a salad and then I smacked a bitch. Yeah, no, hey. No, it's always I was drinking or something, you know. That's that's how the story goes.
SPEAKER_01You know, it's it's weird, man, because you know, uh as older as as old as we are now, and the older we get.
SPEAKER_02I prefer seasoned.
SPEAKER_01Uh seasoned, yeah. More salt than pepper. Um uh yeah, the older I've got, I've noticed that I, you know, I can't drink no more because my blood pressure medicine, but every now and I like I have a few beers every now and again, but but man, I don't I don't care for drinking no more. I don't care for like the hangover, I don't care for none of that.
SPEAKER_02Sets me back too much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I'm too tired. I got other important shit to do. And plus, I like to be in bed by nine o'clock every night. Right. I don't know about you.
SPEAKER_02Uh on occasion, though.
SPEAKER_01On occasion. On occasion. Yeah. Even during the weekends, I'm like, oh, oh, I'm like, I'm I'm yawning, I'm like looking at my watch going, damn, it's 9 30.
SPEAKER_02K Wright Bonds, if you've been drinking.
SPEAKER_01I know, right?
Bail Industry Drama And Standards
SPEAKER_01You know. So uh yeah, uh of course there's one bondsman here that did it, but I don't know if I don't think he's a bond.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we just heard about that. Yeah, at the class. We we so we get continued education that we have to attend every year to maintain our license. And uh we just had it uh this past week. Um we normally we have it in our office. Um since I was a board member, we have it in our office. But this time we decided we were gonna go hang out with the other bonds, but for some reason that's usually something I don't like to do. But I just I just prefer not to get in that. There's a lot of drama with these people, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yes, there is, and a lot of stuff they were talking about pertain to some of these folks for sure.
SPEAKER_02And uh, you know, I also whispered in your ear and they're like it's like the whole class heard it, and like it was funny because it was aimed at one particular person that was sitting catty corner from it.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and yeah, because Julie was like, So, what is it, Robert? I'm like, uh, it's him over there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm not saying, but but you know he knows uh he knows he knows he's garbage, you know, but whatever.
SPEAKER_02We'll say no name.
SPEAKER_01I'm telling you what, man, I don't know. There's some folks that be letting this business I'm just like, hi in the hell did you get your bonding license? Right. I don't know, I don't know if they could even read. I mean, it was it's that bad.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes I'm going There's good and bad in every profession. Yes, there is, you know that in everything. Yes. So some some are just more prevalent, I guess. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, if stupid had a name, it would be some of them people.
SPEAKER_02So that's the story of Candy, the drug probation drug um absconder.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, hell, I mean, I hate that.
SPEAKER_02Unfortunate she had a very bad ending, um, not on our watch, but I know, and I think she got I think she actually gotten cleaned from what I was told.
SPEAKER_01I think she actually got clean.
SPEAKER_02We you know, we like to hear successful stories.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we don't like hearing them them type of stories. That it's uh it's
Sponsors And The NCIC Rule Push
SPEAKER_01horrible. But oh, we gotta say uh what's up to our our sponsor, bankers and NCBA.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Again, um sorry, it's been a it's been a minute. We've kind of forgotten.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, we're trying to get back in the groove of things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're trying. Um, but thank you, Banker Surety, for being a sponsor. Yes. And also the NCBAA.
SPEAKER_01So if you're a bondsman and you listen to our our podcast, make sure that make sure bankers can can be a surety in your state first. But if they are, reach out to them. Bankers they've been good to us. They've been great for how many 28 years?
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, I've been with them for quite a while. Yeah. 20 plus years. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I mean, great people to work with. Um I would highly recommend. And in NCBAA, we got you know, Julian and that they're you know, Woody, Julie, all the people.
SPEAKER_02They're working on a lot of good things for bail agents in North Carolina.
SPEAKER_01And I'm I was I was ha I was kind of glad to see them both because they're both from the mountains.
SPEAKER_02Yep. They made the trip.
SPEAKER_01They made the trip and they're and they're doing everything they can to help out. You see the new rule that they're trying to pass?
SPEAKER_02No, what's that?
SPEAKER_01The one where if the uh the state won't put them in NCIC, you got to get to relieve us off the motion. Wow, that's big.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's uh I'm hoping Yeah, because it's an act of Congress for us to get in NCIC. I know. And uh, you know, for those you don't understand what I'm saying, NCIC is a national crime index that basically, if you leave a state, you committed a crime and you leave the state and go wherever. Right. It follows you if you get stopped for anything that will show up in NCIC. And they they can't arrest you um for that charge in that state that you're not in anymore. But a lot of crimes do not get put in it. And some of them I understand it's it's not worth it to do because because you have to face extradition and the state pays for that. This is where bondsmen come in. We pick up that tab, we go get them. We don't the state uh has to pay police officers and things like that to go chase them. You know, if there's a bond attached, they know that bondsman's gonna be.
SPEAKER_01But if you can't go to Illinois or Kentucky and those are issues too.
SPEAKER_02Those are states that we're technically not allowed in.
SPEAKER_01Technically. Technically. Technically. I'm not we're not gonna. That's another episode. I don't know. I don't know.
