Morning by Morning, June 2, 2025 - Revival Fire that Consumes all “Complacency. Compromise. Cowardice.”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead me in Your way for You are “the Way and the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). ...
“Sleeper, awake!
Rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you!” (Ephesians 5:14)
As I was praying and preparing to speak on Revival at The Empty Cross Prayer Garden in Kerrville, Texas this weekend, these words came to my heart as hindrances to our personal revival and revival in our land:
“Complacency. Compromise. Cowardice.” ...
Forgive us and free us from our “complacency,” Lord. Wake us up from our spiritual slumber. Where we’ve grown weary, even in well-doing, refresh us and renew us. Like the ten virgins who were the bridesmaids who had all grown sleepy when the bridegroom was delayed, fill us up with the fresh oil of Your Holy Spirit, trim our lamps of the Word of God we hold in our hearts to burn brightly again with the Light of Your Glory and Revival Fire (Matthew 24:1-13). We must “Keep awake, therefore, for (we) know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming” (v. 13).
Forgive us and free us from our “compromise,” Lord. We’ve compromised too much with the ways of the world, with the desires of our flesh, with the influences of our culture. We’ve not fully heeded Your Command, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness; rather, expose them” (Ephesians 5:11). We’ve let too much darkness and defilements of the temptations of our world taint and turn our hearts from the purity and holiness of heart and life You desire as our God jealous for our affections alone, with sincere and pure hearts, wholly dedicated and consecrated to You (2 Corinthians 11:3).
Forgive us and free us from our “cowardice,” Lord. It’s a strong word. But it speaks of any degree that we’ve given into the spirit of fear and intimidation that would hold us back from the boldness of our faith and witness, demanding we sit back and shut up about our Lord and the hope we carry in our hearts for all who would put their faith and trust in You. You’ve not given us a spirit of fear, but rather the Spirit of Your love and power and sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). As declared in the NKJV, “For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.” Let us not forget that the first to be cast into the lake of fire at the end of the age with be “the cowardly” along with “the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars” (Revelation 21:8). Let us not be found “among those who shrink back and so are lost but among those who have faith and so preserve our souls” (Hebrews 10:39). Instead, let Your Perfect Love cast out all fear and fill us with fresh faith and fresh Fire, with Revival Fire! (1 John 4:18)
Yes, Lord. “For indeed our God is a Consuming Fire!” (Hebrews 12:29) Come consume everything in us that is not yet like You. Consume every measure of “complacency” and “compromise” and “cowardice.” Set us ablaze with Your Holy Fire, Your Revival Fire, as Your burning ones, burning with a passion for You and for the souls of those who desperately need You in our world (Daniel 12:3; Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:5). O Lord, let the Fire ablaze on the altar of our hearts never burn out, but burn forever brighter in us and all for You. As Your Word commands, “A perpetual Fire shall be kept burning on the altar; it shall not go out!” (Leviticus 6:12; 2 Timothy 1:6) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
