Morning by Morning, September 16, 2025 – “Turning Point”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...
As I wait for Your leading this morning, the words “Turning Point” come to mind. Probably because nearly news article I’ve read and nearly every conversation I’ve had these past few days has referenced Turning Point at some point — the movement founded by the slain young activist Charlie Kirk. My understanding is the name was meant to speak of the turning of the nation from what it had become to what it was meant to be. And the name reminds me of a “turning point” in the heart of a people in desperate need referenced in Scripture in Psalm 107:
“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and He delivered them from their distress” (Psalm 107:6).
The phrase is repeated four times in four different, desperate situations of distress and destruction (v. 6, 13, 19, 28). In every experience, the people found themselves in desperate need of a Savior, in desperate need of their only Hope. So they “cried out to the Lord.”
In every experience, that was their “turning point.” No matter their circumstance, no matter their situation, no matter whether they put themselves in that position of distress because of their sin or their past, when they humbled themselves to cry out to You for help, You heard and You answered.
You “redeemed” them (v. 2). You “gathered” them (v. 3). You “led them” (v. 6). You “satisfied” and “filled” them (v. 9). You “saved them from their distress” (v. 13). You “brought them out of their darkness” and “broke away their chains” (v. 14). You “broke down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron” (v. 16). You “sent out (Your) word and healed them” and “rescued them from the grave” (v. 20).
Their “turning point” led to their thanksgiving and praise for Your “unfailing love” and “wonderful deeds” (v. 8, 15, 21, 31). “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever!” (v. 1)=
Our “turning point” is when we turn our hearts to You, when we cry out to You, when we humble ourselves in Your sight that You can lift us up and set our feet on solid Rock (James 4:10; Psalm 40:2). Trusting in You and You alone as our only Hope is our Turning Point (Psalm 62:5) — for our souls, for the soul of our nation, and for souls of the nations of this world. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
