Morning by Morning, November 19, 2025—“Words of Wisdom” Discerned “Morning by Morning”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Align my heart with Your heart, my thoughts with Your thoughts, as I begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit. ...
“The Sovereign Lord has given me His words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will” (Isaiah 50:4 NLT).
My Sovereign Lord—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God—give me ears to hear what Your Spirit is speaking to my heart and forming thoughts in my mind. Give me humility of heart and surrender of soul, as You open my understanding to Your will and move me into obedience to Your ways.
Morning by morning, You waken me. Moment by moment, may You lead me. Step by step, choice by choice on my journey with You throughout the journey of my day.
Give me discernment to test what I believe I hear. As Your Word teaches us, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:19-21). As You’ve taught me how to test, how I now teach others to test, what I believe I hear as Your words:
1. Does it align with Scripture?
2. Does it bear witness with my spirit as words of Your Spirit?
3. What is its character?
4. What is its fruit?
5. Is it confirmed by the counsel of others I trust?
Your words of wisdom are weighty, powerful words. Your words of wisdom are living, active words. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
Lord, sanctify my heart. Sanctify me on my pursuit of more Christlikeness, just as You desire for each one of us in “spirit and soul and body” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Sanctify my tongue in the words I speak. Sanctify my hand in the words I write. For this is Your will for every one of us who are called by Your name and seek to follow in Your steps (1 Thessalonians 4:3). As You are, so are we to be in our world (1 John 4:17).
Let Your words first change me, first comfort me, before I ever attempt to allow Your words to flow through me to help comfort the weary, to awaken the discouraged, to inspire the committed, to shift my culture and make a difference in my world. We’re all to seek to hear what You’re saying to us and then also through us to help others, as You would lead us (1 Corinthians 14:1). “One who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them” (1 Corinthians 14:3).
Show me “what to say and how to say it” as an expression of Your heart and Your hope to those who are listening who need Your words of comfort and encouragement (John 12:49 NLT). As You waken me in the morning, I welcome You in my spirit to set apart my words to be an expression of Your words, as You make my heart more like Your heart, my thoughts more like Your thoughts, my will and my ways more like Your will and Your ways. I have far to go on that journey to further spiritual maturity, but I know I’m on that journey and You’re with me every step—morning by morning, step by step, as You waken me and walk with me.
You've given us all various gifts and graces to serve Your people and glorify Your name. And You give us the grace to grow in these gifts, to express them in love and see them bear fruit that honors You and Your heart in our world:
“God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to Him forever and ever!" (1 Peter 4:10-11)
I pray for Your weighty, powerful words, for Your living, active words to flow into me and to flow through me to inspire hope, to heal wounds, to break chains, to awaken courage, to save and sanctify souls, to advance Your kingdom and glorify Your name. I pray my words would be Your words, the words of the One who is the Word of God abiding in me (John 1:14 and 15:4).
So keep crucifying my flesh, keep sanctifying my heart, keep purifying my words, so that my character becomes more and more like Your character each day—“morning by morning” and step by step along the way, until I can say “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Then the words I hear and the words I share may be an expression of Your words to make a difference in me and my world. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
