Morning by Morning Daily Prayer Journey with Tommy Hays of Messiah Ministries
“Only Lights” - Morning by Morning, December 8, 2025
“The people who sat in darkness have seen a great Light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16).
I’m hearing in my heart right now the words of the worship song,
Light of the World
You stepped down into darkness
Open my eyes, let me see
Here I am to worship ...
Freshly written and sent out immediately "morning by morning" from the morning prayer time of Tommy Hays each day.
God bless you and you have a great day!

Morning by Morning, December 8, 2025 – “Only Lights”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You, as I listen and wait to begin my day taking time with You. ...
“Only lights.”
The words of a friend spoken at church yesterday morning come to mind. She’d had an especially rough year, looking forward to a new year soon, told us she decided her Christmas tree would have “only lights” this year.
She didn’t say it with a sense of discouragement or weariness or the sense of “I’m just too tired to do anything else.” But with a smile and a sense of simplicity, a priority of focus.
Without explaining, I knew what she meant. No glitter. No ice-cycles. No ornaments. Just the lights.
Just Jesus. Just the One who is the Light of the world.
No other focus. No distractions. Just Jesus.
In the many distractions of the Christmas season, help me keep my eyes on You, Lord Jesus. Help me keep You at the heart of all I see, all I do, all I am. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
