“There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death….
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death”
(Proverbs 14:12, 27).

Morning by Morning, August 6, 2026 — “A Way that Seems Right” and a Different Way that Is Right

Good morning, Lord Jesus. The sons and daughters of God are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14). I watch and wait for You to lead me now and along every step of my day. …

“There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death….
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death”
(Proverbs 14:12, 27).

Show me Your way, Lord. There’s a way that “seems right” and there’s often different way that is right. Sharpen my discernment to recognize the difference. And one of Your keys to discernment, according to the wisdom of Your Word, is “the fear of the Lord.”

The ways of the world, the flesh, and the devil lead to death. They may seem right and wise in the moment, but for the wrong reasons, going down the wrong path, and headed toward the wrong destination. But there is life in the fear of the Lord, in honoring You, looking to You, seeking Your will and Your way and Your leading.

As You have warned us all:

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

Help me be willing to look foolish in the eyes of the world but be found faithful in Your eyes. Help me be humble to seek Your face, to listen for Your voice, and follow Your leading. It won’t be the way that “many” choose to go, but it will be the way that the “few” who take time to surrender to Your will and follow Your ways in the fear of the Lord will find.

By the grace of God, I choose to be one of the “few,” one of the seemingly foolish who put You first, seeking to honor Your will above mine and Your ways instead of mine. As I rise now to go about my day, I’ll be trusting You and Your Word, that “You make known to me the path of life” (Psalm 16:11). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
