065: Charlie Kirk's Assassination and What It Means for America: Honestly, It's Always Been This Way...
My producer and close friend, Taylor Leys asked me to sit down and have a real conversation about the assassination of Charlie Kirk and how our country responds when tragedy explodes across our feeds. You may not agree with everything we say. That’s okay. The point of this episode is dialogue, not victory laps. We talk about free speech, political violence, and how to show up as fathers, husbands, and friends when the world is shouting.
I share stories from my own family—conversations with my adult kids where we don’t see eye to eye, and what I’m learning about listening without categorizing people. We dig into why debate isn’t dialogue, why anger isn’t the enemy (sin in our anger is), and how the algorithm trains us to behold what breaks us. We also explore the pastoral side of this moment: praying simple prayers, caring for our local people, and choosing unity inside the Church even when we disagree on policy.
This isn’t about picking a party. It’s about picking the harder path: love that tells the truth, refuses to dehumanize, and keeps the table open. If you’re feeling the weight of all this—politics, social media, grief—this episode is an invitation to go first in your home, with your people, and in your community. Let’s choose intentional thought, honest conversation, and relationships that outlast the news cycle. If you disagree with us, drop a comment. We’ll read it. We want dialogue, not dogfights.
