What would you do if your boyfriend's roommate accidentally walked in on the two of you during a VERY private moment…only to realize you have to work with him the very next day? 😳

This week on the Mic Manifestation Podcast, a 21-year-old listener writes in with one of our most awkward Mic Drop Confessions yet.

She and her boyfriend thought they had his apartment completely to themselves for the evening, so they got a little too comfortable on the living-room sectional.

There was just one problem…

The roommate came home early.

Now she's completely embarrassed—but there's another twist: she and the roommate work together.

She's seriously considering calling out of work because she doesn't know how she's supposed to face him.

Should she apologize? Pretend nothing happened? Make a joke about it? Avoid him completely?

Her boyfriend says she's overreacting, especially because his roommate laughed off the whole situation and told him not to worry about it.

So who's right?

And is being accidentally walked in on actually more common than we think?

We're talking about embarrassment, privacy, awkward coworkers, how to recover from an uncomfortable situation and why sometimes the best way through an embarrassing moment is simply to stop running from it.

👇 WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Would you go to work the next morning and act like nothing happened—or are you using that sick day? 😂

What up? Okay, I need everyone listening to imagine this for a second. You and your boyfriend think you have the entire place to yourselves for the evening. His roommate is gone. Not coming home, so you get a little too comfortable, right? Actually, a little too comfortable. You decide the bedroom apparently isn't necessary because there's a perfectly good big sectional sitting right there in the living room. And you think you're alone. Everything is going fine until you hear somebody come through the front door. And standing there is your boyfriend's roommate. Alright, awkward already, right? But here's what it gets worse. You don't just know the roommate, you work with him. And tomorrow morning, you're supposed to walk to into work, look this man in the face, and somehow act like he didn't just see way more of you than any co-worker was ever supposed to see. Are you going to work? Are you go- are you calling out stick? Do you apologize? Do you pretend nothing happened? Because that's exactly what this week's listener wants to know. And I'm sorry, but this might get this might be one of the funniest and most uncomfortable mic drop confessions we've had in a while, baby. Let's get into it, let's get into it, baby. Thanks for tuning in, everybody. What's going on? Welcome back to another episode of Mike Manifestations Podcast. If this is your first time here, welcome. This is where we talk about relationships, life, uncomfortable situations, listener dilemma, and sometimes situations where they really isn't a perfect answer. And today's story, there's definitely no instruction manual for this one, baby. Right? We've all had embarrassing moments, right? You trip in front of everybody, you send a text to the wrong person, you say something stupid at work, and think about it for the next six months. But this is on another level, baby. Right? Because our listener is 21 years old, her boyfriend is 21, and his roommate is also 21. And she has to see this roommate at work tomorrow. So before the con before she considers changing her identity, right? Moving to another state and starting a completely new life, let's read what happened. So our listener writes in, she says, Hey Ben, she says, I need advice because I'm I'm so embarrassed right now that I'm seriously thinking about calling out of work tomorrow. I'm 21 and my boyfriend is also 21. His roommate is 21 as well. He said, My boyfriend's roommate wasn't supposed to be home for the evening. So my boyfriend and I thought we had the place completely to ourselves, right? They have this big section over in the living room area, and stupidly, my boyfriend and I decided to have sex there because we thought nobody was coming home. Well, his roommate came home and walked in on us. I wanted to disappear, but what makes this so much worse is that his roommate and I work together. What? God damn. So now I have to see him tomorrow, right? My boyfriend thinks I'm completely overreacting because I'm considering calling out of work. He talked to his roommate afterwards, and apparently his roommate just laughed, threw his hands up and said, you know, something like, Well, I saw more of your girlfriend than I thought I would ever than I thought I ever would. And basically told me Told him not to worry about it. My boyfriend thinks that means everything is fine, but I'm still completely embarrassed, right? What am I supposed to say when I see him? Do I apologize and say sorry you had to see me like that yesterday? Do I ignore it? Do I avoid him? Because I feel like avoiding him might actually make everything more awkward, right? And does this actually happen to other people? Has anyone else been through something like this? Is this normal? Please help because right now I don't really want to go to work tomorrow. Okay, well, I mean, first of all, go to work, man. Right? Don't burn a sick day over this because I'll tell you right now, calling out is probably gonna make this situation feel ten times bigger in your head than it actually is. You know, she's embarrassed, and I get it. I understand why she's embarrassed. Absolutely, you know, there's certain levels of privacy you expect during an intimate moment, and having somebody unexpectedly walk through the door, that's probably one of the most moments where you five where you're where five seconds feels like five minutes, you know? And then what and then once it's over, your brain starts replaying everything, you know what exactly did he see? Did he see me first? Did he see my boyfriend first? How long was he standing there? Did he immediately turn around? And then your brain gets even worse, right? What is he gonna think uh when he sees me tomorrow? You know, that's where anxiety takes over. Because now you're imagining tomorrow before tomorrow has even happened, right? But here's the important part the roommate already talked to the boyfriend, and judging by what she says, he doesn't seem bothered by it. You know, he laughed, he made a joke, he basically said, Yeah, that was more than I expected to see tonight, and moved on. You know, honestly, you know, that's probably the best reaction you could hope for. You know, put yourself in the roommate's position, right? You know, let's flip this around. Imagine you're the roommate, you're supposed to be gone for the evening, you know, plans change, you come home early, you open up the door. Oh, wrong time. You turn around, you're probably embarrassed too, right? You know, that's the part she might not be considering you know, she thinks she's going to work, or she's she thinks she's going to walk into work and he's going to be staring at her, thinking about what happened. You know, meanwhile, he's probably thinking, please don't bring this up, please don't bring this up. Let's just do our jobs, right? And just go about our business. You know, the awkwardness goes both directions, right? Should she apologize? You know, this is where I'd probably where I'm probably going to disagree with some people. I don't think she needs some big formal apology. You know, don't walk into work tomorrow, like, hey, can we talk privately about what you witnessed last night? Nah, man. You know, nah, you're turned now you've turned a 10-second awkward moment into a human resources meeting, right? If you feel like you have to acknowledge it, keep it simple. You know, something like, hey, sorry about yesterday. We thought you weren't coming home. That was embarrassing. He'll probably laugh and say, Don't worry about it, you know, and you're done. You know, conversation over. Don't explain anything. He doesn't need the director's commentary, you know. And then go back to being co-workers, you know. Or should she say, or should she say nothing? You know, this might actually be the better option. You know, walk into work, you know, morning, say morning, good morning, and keep moving. You know, if he doesn't mention it, you don't have to mention it either. You know, sometimes two adults can signly agree. Yeah, that happened, and never speak about it again, right? There are certain moments in life where pretending something did happen is actually a beautiful form of communication, right? You know, he knows, you know, your boyfriend knows, everybody knows. We don't need a conference, don't start avoiding him. What I wouldn't do is suddenly start behaving strangely around him, you know. Don't see him walking down the hallway and immediately turn around. Don't hide in the break room, don't switch shifts, don't peek around corners before walking somewhere. Because that is when you're gonna make him think, okay, he's really uncomfortable around me now, and now he's uncomfortable. Just behave normally. You know, it might feel weird for the first 30 seconds, maybe five minutes, and then somebody at work is gonna ask you a question, the phone is going to is is gonna ring, somebody needs something, and life moves on, right? Now, I've got to defend the girlfriend on one thing, you know, her boyfriend saying you're overreacting. Come on, man. You know, easy for you to say, you're not the one walked into work, walking into work tomorrow thinking my co-worker has now seen me in a way co-workers are absolutely not supposed to see me. You know, her embarrassment is real. You don't have to understand why somebody feels embarrassed to acknowledge that they do. A better response would have been, yeah, that that's awkward, but he told me he's not bothered by it. You're gonna be okay. That's reassuring. Your overreacting usually doesn't help somebody who's already anxious, you know, and before we figure out where whether this kind of thing is actually more common than we think, quick shout-outs to the sponsor for the Mike Manifestations podcast, Kane3D Studio. Now back to the listeners, baby. Because she asked a question that made me laugh. Does this happen to people? Yes, of course. You know, you're not the first person in human history who's been walked in on, right? And you definitely won't be the last. Does this actually happen? Think about college roommates, apartments, people living with family, couples with roommates, hotels, vacations. People come home early, plans change, doors that somebody thought were locked. It happens. It is something you want. I mean, it is something you want to happen. Obviously, not, right? Is it something you should be ashamed of forever? No, you know, you're two consenting adults who thought you had privacy, you made one questionable decision, and I think we all know that what that decision was, right? The living room. That's the lesson. Not never be intimate with your boyfriend again, right? The lesson is you know, maybe don't trust the roommate's schedule enough to turn the sectional into the honeymoon suite, right? Bedrooms have doors for a reason, right? The roommate actually handled it pretty well. I also think uh we should give the roommate some credit here, too. You know, based on what she told us, he didn't make it weird, he didn't get angry, he didn't start telling everybody, he didn't make some inappropriate comment to her, you know, he laughed it off with his friend and essentially said, you know, don't worry about it. You know, that's probably his way of trying to make everybody comfortable, you know, and if he behaves normally with her at work tomorrow, you know, follow his lead. Let the moment die. You know, what if he jokes about it at work? Now here's where I draw a boundary, you know. If he privately says, hey, don't worry about yesterday, fine. If you both laugh once, fine. But if he starts making jokes around co-workers, no. Now, now we're uh somewhere different, right? She has every right to say, hey, I know yesterday was awkward, but I I'd appreciate it if we kept that private. You know, that's completely reasonable, right? And what happened at home doesn't need to become workplace environment or workplace entertainment, you know. If he's a decent guy, he'll understand that immediately. You know, what if he tells other people? You know, same thing. That would that would change my opinion of his roommate because right now I'm saying he walked in accidentally, he laughed it off. Nobody did anything malicious. Okay, but if tomorrow she walks into work and three co-workers are laughing because everybody knows, now we have a different problem, right? Then she absolutely has the right to tell him, you know, that was private. I don't appreciate you sharing it, but don't punish him today for something he hasn't done tomorrow, right? Give him the opportunity to behave like an adult. And now, and I and I don't mean that disrespectfully, you know, I mean her imagination is probably making tomorrow worse than tomorrow is actually gonna be. That's what embarrassment does. You know, you replay the moment, then you imagine everybody else replying to it, but most of the time, other people more other people move on much faster than we think they do. We're the ones we're the ones keeping the embarrassment moment alive, right? There's actually something freeing about real realizing, you know, people aren't thinking about us nearly as much as we think they are. Everybody has their own life. You know, their own problems, their own embarrassing moments. So, what should she do tomorrow? You know, here's exactly what I would do. You know, wake up, get dressed, go to work, walk in like you normally do. If you see him, say hello, don't run, don't hide, don't suddenly become fascinated by the floor, right? If he doesn't mention it, don't don't mention it. You know, if he says something like, hey, don't worry about yesterday, say, yeah, that was embarrassing, sorry about that, laugh, move on, and that's it. The more normal you make it, the faster it becomes normal again. And please learn one thing you know, next time your boyfriend says, My roommate won't be home tonight, you look at that bedroom, you look at that living room sectional, and you remember this podcast, and you say, We're hitting that bedroom tonight, baby. Right? Because apparently that roommate schedule cannot be trusted. But I really want to know and really want to hear from everybody on this one, you know, have you ever been have you ever been walked in on? Or maybe you were the unfortunate person who walked in on somebody else? How did you handle seeing them? How did you handle seeing them awkward? Did everybody laugh about it? Was it awkward? Did you pretend it never happened? And what advice would you give to our listener? Would you acknowledge it at work tomorrow? Or would you say absolutely nothing? Let me know in the comments. And you don't have to give us all the details, right? Keep something between you and the universe, right? Here's what I want our listeners to remember embarrassment feels enormous when you're the person experiencing it. But an embarrassing moment doesn't have to become an embarrassing relationship, and it definitely doesn't have to become an embarrassing workplace situation, right? Something awkward happened, nobody intended for it to happen. The roommate seems to understand that, your boyfriend understands it. Now you have to give yourself permission to move past it as well. You know, go to work tomorrow, hold your head up, act normal, and remember, sometimes the fastest way through an awkward moment is to stop running away from it and maybe lock the bedroom door next time.
