Sunday November 24th, Episode 34.  Why Celebrate Thanksgiving? I’m your host Zane Lawhorn.

As the season of Advent approaches, we stop for a day to return thanks.

Thanksgiving is a time to remember what God has done for us.

We want to discover the significance of Thanksgiving, a cherished tradition for patriotic Christians, celebrating gratitude, faith, and family.

Thanksgiving is a beloved occasion that holds a special place in the hearts of patriotic Christians. This cherished holiday is more than just a day for feasting; it’s a time for expressing gratitude, reflecting on faith, and strengthening family bonds. But why exactly do we celebrate Thanksgiving? Let’s delve into the rich history, spiritual significance, and the traditions that make this holiday so meaningful.

Thanksgiving traces its origins back to 1621 when the Pilgrims celebrated a successful harvest with the Wampanoag tribe. This event laid the foundation for the Thanksgiving we know today, symbolizing cooperation and gratitude. The holiday became officially recognized when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a national holiday in 1863, amid the Civil War, as a way to foster unity and thankfulness.

The Pilgrims, who were devout Christians, left England seeking religious freedom. Their journey to the New World was fraught with challenges, yet their faith remained strong. The first Thanksgiving was not just a celebration of the harvest but also a testament to their resilience and divine providence. For patriotic Christians, Thanksgiving is a powerful reminder of their ancestors' faith and determination.

It is a reminder that God Almighty was present as our country was born.

For Christians, Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate the many blessings bestowed upon them by God. This includes not only material wealth but also spiritual growth and familial love. The holiday encourages believers to reflect on their faith journey and express gratitude for the guidance and support they’ve received.

Many families incorporate prayers and scripture readings into their Thanksgiving traditions. This practice underscores the day’s religious significance and emphasizes the importance of giving thanks in all circumstances, as urged in

1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”

If you are not including prayer and praise in your Thanksgiving celebration then make it part of your day’s activities.

Thanksgiving offers a unique opportunity for families to come together, share stories, and create lasting memories. In our fast-paced lives, it's a chance to pause, reconnect with loved ones, and foster a spirit of gratitude.  It’s really hard in my opinion to celebrate Thanksgiving without family being together.

Each family has its unique traditions, from classic turkey feasts to volunteering in local communities. New traditions can help reinforce family bonds and ensure Thanksgiving remains a meaningful, cherished holiday for future generations.

Thanksgiving is also a day to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities available in our country. It encourages us to reflect on the nation's history, values, and the sacrifices made by those who have protected our liberties. For patriotic Christians, this holiday is a reminder of the blessings of living in a land where they can freely practice their faith.

Why Celebrate Thanksgiving?

We want to discover the significance of Thanksgiving, a cherished tradition for patriotic Christians, celebrating gratitude, faith, and family.

Thanksgiving is a beloved occasion that holds a special place in the hearts of patriotic Christians. This cherished holiday is more than just a day for feasting; it’s a time for expressing gratitude, reflecting on faith, and strengthening family bonds. But why exactly do we celebrate Thanksgiving? Let’s delve into the rich history, spiritual significance, and the traditions that make this holiday so meaningful.

The Historical Roots of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving traces its origins back to 1621 when the Pilgrims celebrated a successful harvest with the Wampanoag tribe. This event laid the foundation for the Thanksgiving we know today, symbolizing cooperation and gratitude. The holiday became officially recognized when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a national holiday in 1863, amid the Civil War, as a way to foster unity and thankfulness.

The Pilgrims and Their Faith

The Pilgrims, who were devout Christians, left England seeking religious freedom. Their journey to the New World was fraught with challenges, yet their faith remained strong. The first Thanksgiving was not just a celebration of the harvest but also a testament to their resilience and divine providence. For patriotic Christians, Thanksgiving is a powerful reminder of their ancestors' faith and determination.

It is a reminder that God Almighty was present as our country was born.

The Spiritual Significance

For Christians, Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate the many blessings bestowed upon them by God. This includes not only material wealth but also spiritual growth and familial love. The holiday encourages believers to reflect on their faith journey and express gratitude for the guidance and support they’ve received.

A Time for Prayer and Reflection

Many families incorporate prayers and scripture readings into their Thanksgiving traditions. This practice underscores the day’s religious significance and emphasizes the importance of giving thanks in all circumstances, as urged in

1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”

If you are not including prayer and praise in your Thanksgiving celebration then make it part of your day’s activities.

Celebrating Family and Togetherness

Thanksgiving offers a unique opportunity for families to come together, share stories, and create lasting memories. In our fast-paced lives, it's a chance to pause, reconnect with loved ones, and foster a spirit of gratitude.  It’s really hard in my opinion to celebrate Thanksgiving without family being together.

Creating New Traditions

Each family has its unique traditions, from classic turkey feasts to volunteering in local communities. New traditions can help reinforce family bonds and ensure Thanksgiving remains a meaningful, cherished holiday for future generations.

Embracing Patriotism

Thanksgiving is also a day to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities available in our country. It encourages us to reflect on the nation's history, values, and the sacrifices made by those who have protected our liberties. For patriotic Christians, this holiday is a reminder of the blessings of living in a land where they can freely practice their faith.

Conclusion

Thanksgiving is a multifaceted holiday that goes beyond the table laden with delicious food. It's a celebration deeply rooted in faith, gratitude, and family values. For patriotic Christians, it's an opportunity to honor their history, express their faith, and embrace their community in a spirit of thankfulness. As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, let us remember to reflect on the good, cherish our loved ones, and offer thanks for the many blessings in our lives.

If you are not doing these things then it’s just another day of football and gluttony……

Call-to-Action

Reflecting on why we celebrate Thanksgiving can bring deeper meaning to your holiday. Consider starting a new tradition this year by incorporating a moment of gratitude before your meal. Share this article with family and friends to inspire thoughtful conversations about the true essence of Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving, Christians have a lot to be thankful for. The election went conservative with Donald Trump winning the presidential election and the Republican party taking control of both houses of Congress.

Praise the Lord!

Already, the mood of the nation has changed with the impending changes coming that are long overdue.  Hopefully, fiscal restraint will return to our government.

After being declared the winner, Trump told the packed crowd that;

“God spared my life for a reason”

&

In an article dated November 11th, Trump posted on Truth Social, "THANK YOU GOD! WON ALL SWING STATES, & THE POPULAR VOTE BY ALMOST 7 MILLION VOTERS..."

Back in the summer, an assassin tried to kill Trump but missed hitting him in the right ear, which fulfilled a Biblical ordination.

Trump went on to say that his presidency will be and I quote “truly be the golden age of America”  unquote

Which is a huge bold statement considering the mess the nation is in currently.  In order for that to happen, a Revival of Jesus Christ has to take hold of our nation.  The election results is a good step in the right direction for that to continue to spread across our nation.  I have been reporting on the spreading revivals in earlier episodes and will continue to focus on the need for revival in the coming year.

Trump went on to ask “every citizen all across the land to join me in this noble and righteous endeavor.”

He went on to seek unity by saying “It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us.  It’s time to unite, and we’re going to try,…..Success will bring us together……”

We must pray daily for Trump to do God’s will to the glory of God Almighty.  Trump is inheriting a federal government that is in shambles.

A November 13th Natural News article reports the Biden government borrowed $ 255 Billion in October alone.  This ‘out of control’ spending behavior has to stop.

The good news is, thankfully, the Trump team appears to be dedicated to cutting wasteful spending.  Time will tell but we have some confidence that at least the issue will begin to be addressed.

I am encouraged by what I am seeing.

God’s Truth says: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”  --Proverbs 1:7

We have had 4 years of foolishness, it’s time to listen to God’s wisdom and instructions.

And for once the talk is more about ‘peace’ than ‘war’ for a change.  While we still hear rumors of World War 3, at least the narrative has changed a bit towards a peaceful resolution.

One article reveals that Trump has spoken with the German leader, Scholz about ending the Ukraine War and returning peace back to Europe.

Other articles, this one from US News.com reads and I quote “trump promises to bring lasting peace to a tumultuous Middle East but fixing it won’t be easy”

I don’t expect it to last even if peace does come for the Bible says while people are saying “peace and safety” destruction comes:

God’s Truth says:

“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

1st Thessalonians 5:1-4

The first part of Revelation chapter 6 goes into great detail about the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse and that they will take away the ‘peace’ from the earth.  Read more about what this stands for on my website link included in the transcript.

One problem, President Trump will face is that there are countries in the Middle East that DO NOT WANT PEACE.

A headline from End Time Headlines reads “Turkey has officially severed relations with Israel”

If you have been following the news and/or this podcast you have heard where the leader of Turkey WANTS WAR WITH ISRAEL.

So, while the talk of peace may be making headlines, the undertone and end result will still be that World War 3 is continuing to loom on the horizon.  It is only a matter of time before this war breaks out because God’s Truth tells us war is coming.  And Israel will be the centerpiece of this war.  But many nations and a whole lot of people will be involved.  Millions upon millions will die.

So please pray for the safety of Christians all around the world.

And be thankful that we serve a merciful God.

As riots erupt in Amsterdam with mobs chanting ‘cancer Jews’ as the hatred for God’s chosen people escalate around the world.

Breitbart.com reports that ‘Pogrom’ attacks are continuing to escalate.

While we shouldn’t always approve of what the Jews are doing, we still need to stand by Israel for it is God’s land and God’s people.

While the old order covenant may have changed the new covenant still includes the Jews.

Ezekiel records “Take off your jeweled crown, for the old order changes…Destruction!  Destruction!  I will surely destroy the kingdom.  And it will not be restored until the one appears who has the right to judge it.  Then I will hand it over to Him.  Ezekiel 21:26-27

This was recorded in the time of Judah as the remaining kingdom was about to be destroyed and exiled away from the Promised Land.

So, President Trump has a huge mountain of problems to contend with.  It won’t be easy no matter how devoted our new administration will be.  It will involve sacrifice and most people are not willing to give up anything.  But patriotic Americans will.  That is my personal opinion.

Bureaucracy hates spending cuts.

True bureaucrats, and most politicians fall into that category, Democrat, Republican and Independents, can’t cut spending.  It is political suicide and most don’t have the fortitude to limit their own careers to cut spending.  Even when they know it is the right thing to do.

That’s one of the reasons I ran, clearly stating I didn’t want to be re-elected again.  I want to be a one-termer.  Now that President Trump is in his final term, hopefully he will wave that banner high himself.

In other news,

The Pope continues to favor the world over Biblical values when he names a Pro-Gay cleric as the preacher of the Papal household.  First question I have is why there even a ‘Pro-Gay’ cleric to begin with.  Shouldn’t that sinful stance be cleansed from the Catholic leadership?

This article comes from End Time Headlines and shows how fallen the Catholic leadership has become.

So, then the Pope proclaims the Jubilee Year of 2025 starting December 24th of this year and for all of 2025.

Jubilee restores things.  So, does this mean that 2025 will be the year restoration through Revival comes to America?

Let’s hope so.  Until we know, we should be thankful for all the blessings we now enjoy.  America has a brighter future than what was possible before election day.  Praise the Lord.

In a few days we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day.

We are told in Psalm 100:4 to “enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.  Be thankful to Him, and bless His Name”

The verses leading up to this proclamation encourages us to make a joyful noise and be happy.  It reads;

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!  Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come into His presence with singing!”

This Thanksgiving praise Him from who all blessings come.  Sing and make a joyful noise in worship.  Thank God Almighty for all the blessings we enjoy.

The phrase ‘enter into His gates’ means come into the Lord’s presence.

By doing so, it is an act of worship.  It is an act of humility and reverence.  To fear God is to be in AWE of HIM and REVERE HIM.

Be glad.  Let the turkey cool a bit on your plate as you return thanks.

Why? Because the Lord is God! The answer appears in Psalm 100:3: “Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his”

We enter His gates—we come into His presence—by recognizing that He alone is God.

and we belong to Him: “We are his people, the sheep of his pasture” --Psalm 100:3.

The Psalm continues on in saying “For the Lord is good, His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.”

Whatever we face, whatever we are enduring, know this the Lord is WITH US.

Be Thankful!

Jesus told us to enter through the narrow gate (Matthew 7:13-14)

For broad is the path to destruction.

As a Christian we are heirs to the Kingdom  (Romans 8:17)

Serve the Lord with gladness.  Praise His Holy Name.  Be Thankful.

Thanksgiving is not about football, eating turkey and dressing.  Although I can’t wait for some of my wife’s gravy, that’s not what the day is about.

The day is about entering His gate with thanksgiving.  Think about all the ways God has blessed you.  How He has answered your prayers.  Thank Him in your own words.

Returning thanks to God doesn’t have to be an A+ Thesis.  Just be honest, straightforward and thankful.

Thank you Lord, for being my savior.  Thank you Lord for my wife and family.  For our home, this wonderful feast of a meal, friends, our military, our nation.  Thank you Lord.  For everything you do named, and unnamed.  In the name of our precious Lord, Savior and King I pray Amen.

You see, a thankful prayer doesn’t have to be perfect.  I didn’t mention my health, my job, Christians in other countries, there are so many blessings too numerous to count.  Yet, God knows beforehand, He just likes to hear us enter His gates with praise and thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  Until next week, Be Thankful.
