Update And New Due Dates

SPEAKER_00

Good morning, this is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for January 11th, 2026. First, the City of Waynesville is aware of a recent mail delivery issue that delayed the receipt of utility statements. To accommodate this delay, the due date for all utility payments has been extended to January 20th, 2026. Please note that the penalties for late payments will now be applied beginning January 21st, 2026. And thank you for your patience as we navigate this issue. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the utility billing department at 573-774-5217. That's 573-774-5217. I'd also like to take this moment to share with you that we recognize this has been an ongoing concern in our community. And it appears that nearly every month there seems to be a delay in the delivery of the utility buildings. But rather than placing blame, I want to share some steps that the city is taking to address and mitigate this issue. First, we're pursuing legislative solutions to help ensure that the local mail remains local. Our goal is for the mail that originates in the city not to leave our areas, such as going to a regional distribution center, only to return for delivery. This process not only costs the city additional funds, but it also impacts our credibility when bills arrive late. Second, we strongly encourage all residents to sign up for e-billing so that you are not solely dependent upon the mailing system. We encourage citizens to build systems of redundancies just as the city is doing. If you have any questions, again call 573-774-5217 about ensuring that you receive e-billing. Sign up for e-billing. We encourage everyone to do so. Our goal is always to provide a premium level of service to our community. So please feel free to share this information, spread the word, and do not hesitate to contact the city council, your city council members or city hall if you have any questions. This week, the city of Waynesville will have its regularly scheduled city council meeting that will take place on Thursday at 5 p.m. That's Thursday at 5 p.m. We will have our regular scheduled city council meeting. Everyone is always welcome to attend. And lastly, I want to share that City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 19th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. So we will reopen on January 20th at 8 o'clock and our normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. With that said, thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
