Holiday Hoops: A Basketball Tradition in North Central Missouri Showcasing Small Town Teams on the Big Stage!

Jeff Crowley, Host, Kris Ockenfels, Co-Host Season 2 Episode 24

A lively review of the creation of the North Central Missouri College Foundation Holiday Hoops Classic.  Since 2005, 266 teams from 3 states have participated in the annual event in Trenton, MIssouri.  Highlighted by David and Goliath matchups where small schools challenged quality teams from much larger schools and non-traditional matchups of teams from different conferences.  Committee members Brent Wyant and Mitch Dougan join Kris and I for some stories about starting the event, years where it was the largest classic in Missouri and some of the great games and matchups over the 20 year history (one including North Mercer and  Penney High School that sold out the arena!)  It's not just about everything happening on the court; we talk hospitality rooms, t-shirts and brownies in this mouth watering episode!

Show-Me Sports Legacies takes a story approach to learning about high school, junior college, D2 & D1 college sports and our beloved professional franchises in Kansas City and St. Louis. We talk to people who have made their mark as coaches, players, scouts and business people after coming from small towns or little known communities or neighborhoods. We talk to people who are seeking to establish their reputation and break into sports career success. With a fan's perspective we look at how to encourage and support people who have that sporting dream.
