Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Skip Monty.

Speaker 2:

Hello everybody and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need? Do you run a small business, and are you possibly in need of some administrative help social media management, email management but we may have a solution for you and it's a cost-effective solution that doesn't necessarily involve adding staff, so I know that that's a positive. So with that, I have the pleasure of introducing your neighbor, Ms Jerisha Bushyhead, who is the owner and operator of JB Virtual Services. Welcome, Jerisha, Hi. How are you today? Who is the owner and operator of JB Virtual Services?

Speaker 3:

Welcome, jerisha Hi.

Speaker 2:

How are you today?

Speaker 3:

I'm doing great on a wonderful Tuesday All right, very good, very good.

Speaker 2:

We're very excited to learn all about you and your business. So, if you wouldn't mind, just tell us a little bit about your company.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely so. Jb Virtual Services does exactly what the business owners don't wanna do. So I do all of the boring, not so hard work, like the administrative support, the project management, the email organization and, of course, all the paperwork. So no business owner likes paperwork, but I love organizing and sorting through paperwork. I love organizing all of your 4,000 emails. So that's basically what we do. We do the back end while you handle all the front end.

Speaker 2:

Wow Very interesting. And I hate paperwork as well. So how did you get into this type of business?

Speaker 3:

Well, so my very first job at the age of 14, I worked in the state of Virginia at the city hall, and my job was to organize paperwork. Of course they were like we just want to give you something simple paperwork. I learned from there that I enjoyed paperwork. I enjoyed the emails. I enjoyed reading them, sending them, replying. I enjoyed it all. So over time, I found myself in the habit of getting jobs that involve assisting with some sort. Well, I recently just left a corporate job that was, of course, assisting a management of job, and I was like what is it that I love doing the most? Well, paperwork. So I started volunteering with some small businesses and they were like you know, you should do this. And I was like I don't know, they're like you're great at it, you should do it. So I did it and I was like no one is going to just hire me single-handedly to just do their paperwork. Well, here we are almost a year later with 17 clients and have now officially booked a Honolulu Hawaii business as well.

Speaker 2:

Wow, wow. Very cool and hopefully you get to visit that client non-virtually, yes, non-virtually, at least once right.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

So are there any? I mean, this is a unique business model. Are there any myths or misconceptions about virtual help, that that you know of?

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, absolutely. So. When I first started I had to find a niche of am I a virtual, am I just virtual, am I a personal assistant? Am I a business assistant? And I learned that when people hear assistant, they automatically assume well, you're going to handle my laundry, you're going to call in my dry cleaning, you're going to virtually walk my dog. I don't know how, but people think it. And so I want to let everyone know, like when you hear virtual assistant yes, we are virtual. Yes, we work through the computer. Yes, we have your emails, but we also work as if we are your friend, like we are here for you. We still need to be a part of your life, your social, not you're walking your dog, but we still need to have like a conversation here and there because I am handling your baby, your business. So don't ever think if you have a virtual assistant, that means you just contact them for just the emails and that's it, or just social media and that's it. We are more than that.

Speaker 2:

Wow, very, very interesting, excellent Outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

I travel and I turn it into work.

Speaker 2:

Oh, there you go.

Speaker 3:

Well, I book these vacations and I tell myself I'm going to go with my children and we're going to go on vacation. But the entrepreneur in me goes on these vacations meet other business owners, go to networking events. Other business owners go to networking events and I find myself having more fun when they tell me how many emails they have and how many I can help organize.

Speaker 2:

Wow, wow. Well, how many children do you have?

Speaker 3:

I have seven children, seven Wow.

Speaker 2:

Seven. Yes, vacation with seven children could be interesting as well.

Speaker 3:

It's something I don't know if interesting is the word, but it's something.

Speaker 2:

It is something. Well, let's change gears. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge that you rose above and can now say you're stronger and better off for it?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. I wouldn't say that I rose above it just yet. So recently this year my husband passed away and he was my biggest motivator. He was the reason that I kept going with my business. He was the reason why I even remotely had an idea to quit my corporate job and keep going with my business. So he passed this April and I just knew that I was going to quit, that I was done, that I could not do this anymore. But my clients, they love me, I love them. They have reminded me that he wanted me to sink or swim. He would not have wanted me to quit, he would have wanted me to keep going. And the most reminder I have is I get to travel, I get to be with my children. They need me more than ever now. So there's no way that I can stop doing what I'm doing and I know it gives me the freedom to continue doing what he would have basically wanted me to keep going.

Speaker 2:

And I am sure he's extremely proud. I am sure I'm sure he's looking down on you saying, yeah, keep going. Sure, I'm sure he's looking down on you saying, yeah, keep going. So can you tell us something that our listeners, one thing that our listeners should remember about JB Virtual Services?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. Jb Virtual Services is your friend, I am your friend, friend. When you see me in public, you need to say hey, friend, because we are friends but, I also tell them you don't always have to hire me as your virtual assistant. Some people don't need assistance. They need advice, and to me advice is free. So if you're trying to figure out if you need a virtual assistant or not, I will tell you you could be like friend. This is what my issue is. Do I need you Friend, yes or no?

Speaker 2:

Very cool, very, very cool. So how can our listeners learn more about JB Virtual Services?
