Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Skip Monty.

Speaker 2:

Hello everyone and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast of the Tri-Cities. We've got a very special guest with us here today, whom I'm super excited to learn all about and all about her business and I'm sure you will be too, especially if you're in need of a roof or some type of restoration because today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, ms Roxanne Henley, who is the Director of Business Development for Pisgah Roofing and Restoration. Roxanne, welcome to the show.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, Skip. It's an honor to be here. I appreciate you taking time to talk with me today.

Speaker 2:

Well, we, like I said, we're very thrilled to have you, and not just because Roxanne is one of my favorite all-time songs and names, but actually I'm potentially in the market for a roof, so I'm super excited to learn all about you and your business. So, if you don't mind, why don't you kick us off by telling us what you do?

Speaker 3:

Okay. We provide roof installations, repair and maintenance on residential and commercial properties. We inspect roof for damages, we replace worn shingles, we fix leaks, we install new roofing systems like asphalt, metal tile or slate. We do quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. We also do storm damage repair. We did a lot for that for Helene. We're still repairing after Helene and we are really good at navigating the insurance process. And I want to add that Pisgah Roof and Restoration was voted number one roofer, metal roofer and gutter repair in the Johnson City Press Reader's Choice Awards for 2024.

Speaker 2:

Wow, well, congratulations. How long have you guys been in business?

Speaker 3:

We have been in business since 2016. They started over there in Asheville, North Carolina, and we moved over here in probably 2021, 2022-ish, and so they hired me to grow the business.

Speaker 2:

Very good. Well, congratulations coming up on 10 years.

Speaker 1:

That's quite an accomplishment.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, absolutely Well, roxanne, how exactly did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

Well, I was in the playground business and if you know anything about playgrounds, that is a construction. There's lots of ins and outs to that. So I know a lot about construction. And a friend referred me to the owner of Pisgah Roofing. His name is Jack Jack Bassett and she heard he was looking for a business development manager and we talked on the phone and he really liked me and he hired me. I have 18 years of service in the sales industry and customer service and I apply that to what I do every day. So, like you said before, I'm the director of business development for.

Speaker 3:

Western North Carolina and East Tennessee 18 years 18 years.

Speaker 2:

So you started when you were six, right?

Speaker 3:

I did. I am six years old, I was six years old. You learn lots of customer service when you're six years old.

Speaker 2:

You learn lots of customer service when you're six years old. That's amazing. So what are some in the roofing industry? What are some myths or misconceptions that you run into in the industry?

Speaker 3:

Well, a lot of people think that all roofing companies are the same. They are not. Think that all roofing companies are the same. They are not. There are different levels. Some people have been around longer than the others. Some people are just dipping their toe into it. A lot of people have a myth of the do-it-yourself roofing. They're like I'll get up there and I'll fix it myself, and they think that's a good way to save money. And and that's a myth. Another myth is my roof only needs replacing if it's leaking. No, that's not right either. If you have an older-looking roof, if you see granules in your gutters or if you're missing shingles, you would need to look into getting a new roof. And some people think that all shingles have the same quality, which they don't. There's different grades, and some people think that roofs last forever and they do not.

Speaker 3:

Roofs need to be replaced and you need to get them inspected, which we do.

Speaker 2:

Okay, very good, do. Okay, Very good, very good. Well, I for one have learned the value of a roof inspection and the need to replace one, unfortunately after Helene. So, wow, roxanne, what outside of work, if you have time, what do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Uh, I like to have fun. Um, I travel, I like to travel and, uh, my husband and I we eat. We like to eat out and enjoy good cuisine. Um, we like to go to UT games. I'm a UT alum double double alumni from there, so I um enjoy going back down to Knoxville. That's like my little home. Lord knows. I spend enough time down there. We like spending time with our neighbors and our friends. We have a little neighborhood here and we hang out and that's fun, and I just like reading and relaxing at home. That, I mean, that's what I like to do for fun. I like to relax.

Speaker 2:

Me too. So let's switch gears for just a second. Can you describe a life challenge that you've overcome, either professionally or personally, and made you stronger on the other side?

Speaker 3:

I've overcome lots of hardships, but I just keep moving forward. So I just keep moving, trying to be positive. So you just have to take the bad with the good and just keep going, keep going, but I can tell you about. Target customers and how to attract them.

Speaker 2:

Okay, how do you do that? Tell us.

Speaker 3:

Okay, I like homeowners that have experience with roof damage that I can help them. I can help somebody that has a roof that's near the end of the life and people that need to upgrade their roofs like older homes. I like recent home buyers Everybody's always looking. They're getting their roof inspected. I like people that are prone to severe weather conditions, which we are. Those people in Irwin and Elizabethton got hit really hard with Helene. I had a lot of leads come in there. I had 50 leads come in there that last Friday, September 27th, I think. Yeah, it was crazy. We advertise on the TV. We get the word out that we attract people. We have commercials. We have billboards there. Everywhere you can see the little dog on it it says Roof, Roof and that's Walter and Walter is one of our owners' puppy and so he likes to put. We like to put Walter on our billboards. We sponsor local sports teams.

Speaker 3:

We sponsor Science Hill High School and they announce us on the radio when they have games and stuff. I'm in two networking groups. I spread the word that way. I'm a member of, and very active in, five chambers around here. I spread the word that way. I do trade shows. I get the word out that way. We do SEO optimization. We do social media engagements. Media engagements. We are Instagram and Facebook active. We do educational information about roof maintenance, for example. On TV they'll have an informational segment that we just try to educate. You can go on Google and see our customer testimony. That's another way to get the word out.

Speaker 2:

Testimonies are great. Yeah, for sure Some of your best. It gives you the best word of mouth too.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes Word of mouth, that's another good one. Okay, so in one neighborhood, most neighborhoods were built at the same time and most of those roofs were put on at the same time. So therefore, if one roof is not doing well and we replace one roof.

Speaker 1:

They tell their neighbor, they say oh, we use.

Speaker 3:

Pisgah roofing, and so they call us. And so, yes, word of mouth, I do not discount word of mouth at all, especially in this, in this area.

Speaker 2:

People trust their neighbors.

Speaker 3:

Yes, sir.

Speaker 2:

Which is which is why we have you on the Good Neighbor podcast.

Speaker 3:

I love the Good Neighbor podcast and Skip is doing a great job running Good Neighbor.

Speaker 2:

Oh well, thank you, Thank you so much. Oh well, thank you, Thank you so much.

Speaker 3:

Well, Roxanne, if you could think of one thing you would like our listeners to remember about Pisgah Roofing and Restoration. What would that be? That not all roofs are created equal. I have more than one Skip.

Speaker 3:

That's right when Helene hit there was a lot of fly by night over companies that came in, tried to move in. I call them chucking a truck. They're just trying to pop up after storms and trying to get. You need somebody that's licensed, insured and established, which we are. We're big on insurance claims because we help people navigate the insurance business, so I know they can be tricky. The homeowner usually doesn't know their rights and so we work with the adjusters so people can get their coverage and they don't overpay.

Speaker 3:

We don't like people taking advantage of us, so we advocate for the actual roof owners. And people need to keep in mind that preventive maintenance saves thousands of dollars. So you can't ignore your roof until you have a major problem. You probably need to have a yearly inspection and we do that at no cost with our estimators. They're professional estimators so you could prevent leaks and mold and costly repair. Roof damage isn't always obvious. Like I mentioned before. There might be missing shingles or granules in your gutters. You might have small leaks that have hidden issues. So you have to realize that a new roof is an investment and it's not an expense. So it boosts your home value, it improves energy efficiency, it prevents major water damage and you can't cut corners by buying cheap material or labor costs. You'll end up paying in the long run. So you have to go with a credited company, an established company.

Speaker 2:

Just like.

Speaker 3:

Pisco Roofing and Restoration. And like on a billboard, walter, we remember, you remember, walter. He's a little dog Roof roof. So that's my tagline. Oh, we have another tagline, our other tagline we're the roofing company that actually calls you back. Was it a fact? You can call me and I will take care of you personally.

Speaker 2:

Awesome, awesome, very good. Lots of stuff to remember, but very good All of it. All of it, and I say that from personal experience. Well, roxanne, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking time out to be on our show. And oh, I forgot to ask how can our listeners learn more If they want to give you a call, get an estimate?
