This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Skip Monty.
Speaker 2:Well, hello everyone and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. So we have a very special guest with us here today whom I'm very excited to learn all about, and I'm sure if you're looking for somebody to help you print something, you're in luck, because somebody might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, miss Maddie Turn, with Printville Maddie, welcome to the show.
Speaker 3:Thank you, skip, for having us. We appreciate it, and thank you to those of us that nominated us to be here. We're excited to tell you more about Printville.
Speaker 2:All right, very good. Well, like I said, I worked in the print industry for a lot of my career, so I'm pretty excited to learn all about what you guys do, and I'm sure our listeners are as well. So if you don't mind, maddie, why don't you kick us off by telling us about your business?
Speaker 3:Yeah, absolutely so. I'm Maddie Turn. I'm the head of marketing and promotional sales here at Printville, and Printville is a full service printing company with seven locations across the southeast, and we specialize in everything from custom business cards to large format signage, promotional products as well as marketing materials, and our team has over 40 years of combined experience, and we take pride in offering high quality products with personalized service. Whether you need banners for events, branded merchandise or custom signage, we've got you covered.
Speaker 2:Awesome. You guys do a lot, it sounds like so. Maddie, how did you get into this business?
Speaker 3:So Printville's story actually starts with our owner and founder, john Long. His father was involved in the printing industry in the Atlanta area and that experience stuck with John as he pursued his dream of opening his own printing business. And he started right here in Asheville, north Carolina, launching our first location in the Biltmore Park area with the help of Nathan White, who is now our head of business development. And from there Printville took off, growing into a company known for its quality, customer service and ability to adapt in an ever-changing industry. And being part of that business with such a strong foundation and growth story is inspiring and I'm proud to carry on carry that vision forward as we move the business forward and grow even more.
Speaker 2:Change is definitely something. Technology is constantly changing in the print industry. I know the technology that what you print with and now digital technology I'm sure has impacted everything you guys do, I would imagine.
Speaker 3:Oh, absolutely, and it's always changing.
Speaker 2:Absolutely Well as far as in the promotional print business. What are some myths or misconceptions that you're aware of that people may have?
Speaker 3:Yeah, so, especially in the printing industry. One common misconception is that printing is becoming obsolete, and we've heard this for a long time, but in reality, print is evolving, like we said, and businesses still need high quality printed materials for branding. And businesses still need high quality printed materials for branding, marketing and customer engagement. And digital marketing is great, but print adds a tangible, lasting impact, whether it's a business card, direct mail or signage for a business. And another common myth is that printing is always expensive, and I'm here to tell you that's not always the case. We work with businesses of all sizes to find cost-effective solutions that will fit their budget, whether they're looking for something small or something large.
Speaker 2:Very good and very true. Print is not that expensive actually. Well, maddie, outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?
Speaker 3:So for me, I personally, I love learning new things, whether it's diving into a new book or picking up a new skill. I'm always looking to expand my knowledge. And outside of that, I'm a huge NASCAR fan and whenever I get the chance, I love to go to races, because there's nothing quite like being at the track.
Speaker 2:Wow, you don't strike me as a NASCAR kind of person. I guess it's nice being so close to Bristol.
Speaker 3:Yeah, especially because there's so many tracks in the Carolinas, it's nice to go spend time there.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, absolutely. And you got North Wilkesboro and Bristol and then Charlotte and the other Martinsville, martinsville, that's right, that's right, very good. And you like to read? Here's a question for you. I like to read, uh, here's, here's a question for you. I like to read too, um, but I'm a, I'm a print guy, so I read books and magazines.
Speaker 3:How about you? I like a good book, whether it's like a book on a skill, like a certain skill that I'm trying to learn, or if it's just like a book with a fantasy world involved. I love all types of books.
Speaker 2:I love the way a book smells. You know the print, the ink on the paper. Yeah, I'm an old guy. Surprising. You're young, so that's surprising.
Speaker 3:But although my daughter is 22 and she, she loves to read books, loves books books, actual books.
Speaker 2:Yeah, there's nothing like it.
Speaker 3:I I mean the tangible is always going to be there and it's, it's always going to be important for readers and for customers that's right.
Speaker 2:That's exactly right well let's switch gears for just a second Maddie. Can you describe a hardship or a life challenge that you've overcome, either professionally or personally, and how it made you stronger coming out the other side?
Speaker 3:absolutely so. So as a business, we had Hurricane Helene that came through in October and that was a major challenge for our business, as well as other local businesses as well. Many of our locations were either closed or affected during that period of time and it took a lot of resilience to navigate that. And keeping operations open and also ensuring our team's safety was really important to us, and through all of that we learned the importance of adaptability as well as everyone else in the area and strong communication. It definitely reinforced our commitment to our customers and showed us just how strong our team and community really are.
Speaker 2:Wow, Now was your plant or your facility affected by the floods.
Speaker 3:So we had some of them that were closed. Thankfully, none of them were catastrophically damaged or anything like that, so we were able to open pretty quickly, but with everything in downtown Asheville, some of our locations took a lot longer to open than others.
Speaker 2:Wow, wow, well, it sounds like you guys are pretty resilient and made it through and and are definitely stronger on the other side. Yeah, for sure, for sure. Well, if, maddie, if you could think of one thing that you would like our listeners to remember about Printville, what would that be?
Speaker 3:I would want them to remember just how much we can actually do. We're more than just a print shop. We offer branding solutions, from promotional products to event signage. We help businesses create a strong, cohesive image. And we're not just about printing we're about partnerships. We work closely with our clients to make sure they get exactly what they need and exactly what they're looking for.
Speaker 2:Gotcha. Very good, good thing to remember. Absolutely Well, if any of our listeners are interested in they need a banner, they need they've got a big event coming up that they need a lot of signage and a lot of printed material. How can they learn more about Printville?
Speaker 3:Absolutely so. The best way to connect with us is through our website, printvillenet, where you can explore our services and you can also request a quote. Speaker 3:Yes, Gaffney, South Carolina.
