EP # 248: Healing Through Neurological Coherence: Dr. Cory Noll's Holistic Approach

Skip Mauney Episode 248

What makes Dr. Cory Noll  with Edgewood Holistic Chiropractic Center a good neighbor?

Ever wondered why chronic health issues persist despite trying everything? The answer might lie in your brain-body connection.

Dr. Cory Noll, owner of Edgewood Holistic Chiropractic Center, reveals his groundbreaking approach to wellness in this fascinating conversation. With 25 years of experience as a brain-centered holistic chiropractor, Dr. Noll explains how misalignment between the brain, nervous system, and body leads to conditions like anxiety, gut issues, sleep problems, migraines, and brain fog.

"95% of all disease is due to stress," Dr. Noll shares, "and the hormones of stress alter brain function, creating poor brain-body coordination." His unique practice combines brain-centered chiropractic techniques, energy medicine, and functional medicine to restore harmony and communication within the body's systems.

Beyond challenging the misconception that chiropractors are merely "back doctors," Dr. Noll discusses his comprehensive training in cardiology, neurology, radiology, orthopedics, and toxicology. What truly sets his practice apart is his use of objective brain wave testing and neurotransmitter analysis to identify patterns affecting health, some present since childhood.

The conversation takes a personal turn as Dr. Noll openly shares his journey through pandemic business challenges and personal loss coinciding with Hurricane Helene. His story illustrates how the very principles he applies in his practice—mindset work, emotional resilience, and proper nutrition—helped him navigate these difficult times.

When aligned with yourself and in coherence, Dr. Noll describes feeling "safe, whole, and balanced with earth." His goal is to help people maintain this state of harmony for longer periods, especially in our increasingly stressful world.

Ready to explore a different approach to your health challenges? Listen now and discover how addressing the brain-body connection might be the missing piece in your wellness journey.

Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Skip Monty.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello everyone and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. So I've got a very interesting guest with us in the studio here today and I'm very excited to learn all about them and what they do, as I'm sure you will be as well, because today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, mr Corey Noel, who is the owner-operator of Edgewood Holistic Chiropractic Center. Corey, welcome to the show, thank you.

Speaker 3:

Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2:

Very good. Well, like I said, we're excited to learn all about you and your business and what you do. So if you don't mind, why don't you kick us off by telling us what you do?

Speaker 3:

I'm Dr Corey Knoll and, as you mentioned, I'm a brain-centered holistic chiropractor, and what I do is I help people by aligning the brain, nervous system and energy system and bringing them into coherence with their body and energy system. And bringing them into coherence with their body, because when you're not in sync, it leads to health issues like anxiety, gut issues, sleep problems, migraines, brain fog and many more, because 95% of all disease are due to stress and the hormones of stress alters brain function, which creates poor brain body coordination, leading to chronic health problems. And so my approach is unique and I blend brain centered chiropractic energy medicine and functional medicine to restore harmony and communication in the brain and body so people can feel more joy, think clearer and heal and function at a much higher level.

Speaker 2:

Very interesting. How exactly did you get into this line of business, Dr Corey?

Speaker 3:

Well, all the way back in high school I was really interested in biology, and when I went to college I really was fascinated with the brain and nervous system, and so that was my studies throughout college. And then I worked in biology research at Caltech and my interest was in the neurosciences and I discovered that chiropractic was. The emphasis was on the brain and nervous system. So I decided to go along that track and I earned a master's degree of anatomy and then a doctor of chiropractic, and I've been practicing for 25 years.

Speaker 3:

Wow, so tell me more about how the brain-body alignment works. Well, the brain is the master, controller and coordinator of the body and it coordinates all systems of the body, your organ systems, your decision making and including your livelihood. And so it's always giving information to the organs and receiving information back from the organs. And if they're not coordinated properly, if the communication is off, there will be health issues because it won't be getting proper signals and proper information, and then the brain actually will adapt to things that are not healthy, because we can't be living in 10 out of 10 pain, for example, 24, seven. We'd literally go insane. So when things are quite off, typically the brain will adapt to that and be off as well. So then health issues creep in, because then it's a chronic poor coordination of the brain body communication system.

Speaker 2:

Well, what are some myths or misconceptions in the chiropractic, the holistic chiropractic business?

Speaker 3:

A lot of times people are thinking that chiropractors are just back doctors and I know the industry has kind of gone in that area. But we really study primary care practices. So we do learn about cardiology, neurology, radiology, orthopedics, toxicology. So we do study the whole body system and the emphasis is on the brain and nervous system. And we also learn about diagnosing and seeing some of those diseases that can crop up in any of those organ systems as a portal of entry so that if somebody is coming into the office that we can refer them to the proper specialist. And it's been emphasized, it's been focused on the nervous system since 1895, since it was discovered.

Speaker 2:

Steve Browning. Outside of work. If there is an outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Hiking in these beautiful mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hopefully we can get to there soon when the roads are fixed. I also like listening to live music floating in the rivers. Just exploring these beautiful mountains in the Appalachia and around Western North Carolina.

Speaker 2:

Very nice, same here. What, what genre of music or any particular genre is your favorite?

Speaker 3:

I've really been kind of getting into the Americana, the old-timey music which has its roots in this area, so that's been really fun. Of course, some bluegrass periodically, but I really like all kinds of genres of music. It's really a great, which is also some of the things that I do like about kinds of genres of music. It's really a great, which is also some of the things that I do like about the brain and nervous system, because music is a great expression of the human creativity. You know, music is also energy, so it's, you know, something that touches the heart.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely Well. I'm a bluegrass fan as well, so, but like you said, intermittently, you have too much bluegrass, too much banjo, that's dangerous for your health, that's right.

Speaker 3:

Sometimes it goes out a little bit long, that's okay.

Speaker 2:

That's all right. Well, let's switch gears for a second Doctor. Can you describe a hardship or a life challenge that you've overcome and how it's made you stronger in the end, Either professionally or personally.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that is definitely one of the things that I do work with patients as well, because we all, at periods of times in our life, experience hardships Some are not as big as others and some are pretty major and it's always how we respond and react to those hardships that gets us through it.

Speaker 3:

So definitely I would say in my business and even in the personal life, was the pandemic was pretty hard. So many people were affected, but my business, like so many others, was affected and I had to look elsewhere for income, otherwise I had to close my business and it got pretty dire at those times. And then, of course, hurricane Helene, the double whammy, um, that was also a big impact on the region. And then my mother passed away at the same time as the hurricane. So I was kind of being challenged financially and emotionally and so I've had to practice inner strength, mindset, things that I work on with the brain and nervous system and things that I help coach other people because, like I said, like the hurricane which we're still recovering from puts a big toll on people from the trauma and the stress, and so I've worked through that with mindset work and healthy nutrition just to kind of develop emotional resilience, strengthen the mindset and strengthen my body to overcome challenges and experience more peace and joy in life.

Speaker 2:

Amen, brother, I'm really sorry to hear about your mother. I can't imagine that happening at the same time as Helene is just horrible, you know, but it sounds like you've taken care of yourself. Tell me about nutrition. You mentioned nutrition as to help stabilize you emotionally.

Speaker 3:

How does that work Well. I've been practicing functional nutrition as part of my practice as well for over 20 years, and so, just as I mentioned before, when the brain and body gets out of balance and some of the organ systems get out of balance, like the gut, for example, or the heart and cardiovascular system, for example, or the heart and cardiovascular system, or especially the adrenal glands because that is really our stress gland things can get way out of balance. And so functional nutrition, functional medicine, is designed specifically to kind of regulate and bring that organ system back into balance so that the body and the brain can be more in coherence and function normally, as it should. And so you know, and of course, following what our mothers and grandmothers always said, you know, eat your vegetables.

Speaker 2:

There you go. I was waiting for that. Absolutely Well, dr Noel, if you could think of one thing that you would like our listeners to remember about Edgewood Holistic Chiropractor Center, what would that be?

Speaker 3:

What people don't usually know about me is that I do functional medicine but I also do some testing on the brain waves.

Speaker 3:

So I mentioned that I'm a brain-centered holistic chiropractor.

Speaker 3:

I also measure the brain waves with objective testing and then that way it can show some patterns that have been in the brain and body for a long period of time, since childhood and before.

Speaker 3:

And then I also do neurotransmitter testing once again because, as I mentioned with the adrenal glands, if the stress hormones like cortisol are just too high, it alters brain function and gets the body off of balance, and so I can do some things in the office to test for that, to assist bringing somebody back into balance, to bring in to harmony so that they can experience more peace, joy and bliss.

Speaker 3:

When you're aligned with yourself and when you're in coherence, when you're kind of in that zone we've all experienced that from time to time or even in that state of unconditional love, you really feel safe, whole, like a whole person and balanced, with earth as an example, and I've had that experience where I've adjusted and taken care of people and they feel just so grounded and balanced because they're really aligned with self. And so my goal is to try and assist and help people maintain that state for longer periods of time, especially in the stressful world, and so then I give them practices to assist when they're at home, to facilitate, to stay more in your true self, the way that you were born, without reacting, and so forth.

Speaker 1:

So those are some of the things that.

Speaker 3:

I do. That is unique in my practice.

Speaker 2:

Definitely unique. I would think there's very few other practitioners doing what you do, so if any of our listeners are interested in learning more, potentially could be a client needs your help. How could they learn more?
