EP# 273: No Chemicals, No Pain, All Gain: Meet Your Threading Expert at Asheville's Threading Place
What makes with Roshni Barot with Threading Place a good neighbor?
Dive into the ancient art of threading with Roshni Barot, owner of Threading Place in Asheville, as she unveils the secrets behind this 6,000-year-old beauty technique that's revolutionizing facial hair removal in Western North Carolina.
Threading isn't just another beauty trend – it's a time-tested practice dating back millennia in India and Middle Eastern countries that provides unmatched precision for eyebrow shaping without chemicals or harmful side effects. Roshni skillfully dismantles common misconceptions about threading being painful, causing skin sagging, or affecting hair growth patterns, explaining why even the most sensitive clients become devoted fans after their first session.
What makes Roshni's Threading Place special goes beyond technique – it's the community she's built. As fellow guest Kahlani Jackson notes, Roshni hasn't just created a business; she's developed lasting relationships with clients who return year after year. Her success stems primarily from word-of-mouth referrals, with satisfied customers spreading the news about this natural alternative to conventional hair removal methods.
While threading has become ubiquitous in major metropolitan areas like New York and Los Angeles, it's still gaining momentum in Asheville. Roshni's passion for educating newcomers about the benefits of threading – from its remarkable precision to its gentle approach – has steadily expanded her clientele since opening in 2017. For anyone seeking the perfect eyebrows or freedom from unwanted facial hair without harsh chemicals, Threading Place offers a solution worth discovering.

Speaker 2:Well, hello everyone and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. So, today I'm excited to have a couple of very interesting and special guests in our studio and I'm sure you'll be just as excited as I am to meet them and learn all about them and their business, because today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbors.
Speaker 1:Miss.
Speaker 2:Roshni Barot and Kalani Jackson. Roshni is the owner operator of Threading Place and Kalani is the owner of Asheville Pro Lash Ladies. Welcome to the show. Hi we're, like I said, super excited to have you on the show and to learn all about what you do. So if you don't mind, why don't you kick us off by telling us about your business?
Speaker 4:Well Threading Place. It's a station where I do eyebrow threading and facial hair removal unwanted hair. Initially threading place in Asheville. It started in 2017 and I'm I am specialized in removing the unwanted hair in a natural way, no chemicals used, no side effects, and I want more people to know about it. The threading place oh, very cool.
Speaker 2:So I know hair removable hair removal can be painful, is that? Or is your method less painful than say?
Speaker 4:yes, yes it is. It's just like pinchy fast pinching thing. For some people it is not at all painful.
Speaker 3:Wow.
Speaker 4:They enjoy, they enjoy. It's like the acupuncture kind. They like it.
Speaker 3:Oh nice nice. It's really beautiful because it's actually more precision as compared to waxing. So, like when you look at it, as far as like doing your eyebrows, it's a more chiseled precision eyebrow. So a lot of people need to check it out, sure.
Speaker 2:Absolutely Well. How did you get started in this business?
Speaker 4:How did you get started in this business? In 1990, after my high school, back in my country, india, I went to beauty school and first technique I learned was threading, and which I loved it because again, there was no chemicals used. You just need a nice thread cotton thread and you're good to go. You can do it anywhere anytime if you have a thread and that perfect eyebrows no other stuff can give you like threading. So I just started my career from that.
Speaker 2:Very cool Is threading. Is that a pretty common thing now, or is that a new approach?
Speaker 4:In Asheville it is getting popular, but other than Asheville it's very popular, Like if you go to New York, California, Chicago, every street has two, three threading places.
Speaker 2:Oh, wow.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it's that popular Initially it started 6,000, 7,000 years ago in India and in the Middle Eastern countries.
Speaker 2:Oh, wow, oh, I did not know that so what are some myths or misconceptions about threading?
Speaker 4:First thing, people think it's very painful, which is not really. It really depends on person to person. Even the most sensitive person after getting threaded, then it's not so painful. That's what they answer. So it's just like pinchy, tiny pinch, like you get those injections Right, right like the mosquito bites, you can say so it's not painful like people have.
Speaker 4:That it's a mite, it's a big mite. And then other might they have that the skin goes saggy, it becomes sagging and you lose your dryness I mean moisture and everything. No, it's not. It gives you the same skin. It does not damage your skin layers and also the hair growth is the same when it regrows. No harsh hair, no unwanted gray hairs, nothing. That's another mite for gray hair. So it's genetic, nothing to do with the hair removal.
Speaker 2:Oh, interesting. Well, who are your target customers for threading?
Speaker 4:All customers that are above 13 years of age and want to get rid of their unwanted facial hair and get better eyebrows.
Speaker 2:How do you typically reach market to those people 13 and older?
Speaker 4:typically reach market to those, those people 13 and older.
Speaker 3:Uh, it's word of mouth, my customers, they love it, they spaz the word, they share their reviews on google, yelp, social media and I go get more and more clients something that I love um about roshni is just seeing like the repeat customers and how she's built like not only a culture but she's also just built like family with Western North Carolina and I think that that shows who she is as a person to maintain a beautiful clientele where you know what's going on in their lives because they've been coming to you for so long. So that's something that I admire.
Speaker 2:Well, you best kind of advertising you can get is a word of mouth by far because you got to do a good job to get a good word of mouth. So obviously you're doing a good job.
Speaker 3:You can also find Roshni on Facebook at the threading place.
Speaker 2:The threading place? Awesome, very good. Well, outside of work, roshni, what do you do for fun?
Speaker 4:I enjoy cooking, watching movies, indian movies and web series, and relaxing.
Speaker 2:Just relaxing. Do you like to cook Indian food?
Speaker 4:Yes.
Speaker 2:I love Indian food. Love it, love it, chloe. What about you?
Speaker 3:Oh my goodness, this is going to sound crazy. I like to work, so I work for a nonprofit sisters caring for sisters, and we are a birthing doula agency in Asheville, north Carolina, so I deliver babies. Medulla Agency in Asheville, north Carolina so I deliver babies. We're working on a rural expansion project which is helping moms get some maternal doctor's appointments and things like that to make sure to ensure that they have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy birth. So that's kind of from my heart center, something that I love to do. So it is working, but I enjoy it so much that it does not feel like working.
Speaker 2:Well, I've always heard if you love what you do, you don't work a day in your life, right?
Speaker 3:Yep, yep, yep, yep, for sure.
Speaker 2:Sounds like you're there Very cool. Well, Roshni, if you could think of one thing that you would like our listeners to remember about you and Threading Place, what would that be?
