From speech therapy to symphonic music: Andreas Iacovides on a lifelong love of music and a broadcasting career
In this episode of the Alumni Voices Podcast we sit down with Andreas Iacovides, Class of 1978, a retired classical music producer, editor, and radio presenter, to discuss his inspiring journey from an academic upbringing to a fulfilling creative career.
Growing up in a musical family, Andreas developed a passion for music but pursued speech therapy to meet societal expectations. While working at the School for the Deaf, his love for music remained strong, leading to a chance opportunity at CYBC, where he spent 34 years making classical music accessible to a broader audience.
Andreas reflects on the power of music, the resurgence of vinyl, and his love for stage musicals like West Side Story and Les Misérables. He also shares insights on AI in music, advocating for the irreplaceable human touch in broadcasting.
His advice to young creatives: follow your passion, no matter what. He encourages aspiring musicians to pursue their dreams and explore opportunities like the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. Now retired, Andreas remains active in choirs and vocal music, proving that creativity never fades.
