Psalm 63:1 declares, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” David, in the wilderness, expresses a deep longing for God—not merely for relief from his circumstances, but for God Himself. His soul thirsts, his body faints, because he knows that true satisfaction is only found in the presence of the Lord.

Verses 2-4 remind us that worship flows from experiencing God: “So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.” David’s response to God’s steadfast love is worship—praise that overflows from a heart captivated by the goodness of God.
