A dry mouth at midnight can feel like a small crisis. That simple, human moment—stumbling in the dark to drink cold water—opened a bigger question for us: what do we reach for when our souls are thirsty? We trace that feeling to Psalm 63, where David names his desire with clarity and courage: my soul thirsts for you.  What are we drinking from? Where do we look when the day runs dry? We close with a simple invitation to seek God earnestly.

If this spoke to you, share it with a friend who might need fresh water today. Subscribe for weekday encouragement, and leave a quick review to help others find this space of worship and renewal.

This is Pastor Keith McMahon, and you are listening to Moments of Worship Tuesday, January the 13th. This podcast seeks to encourage you in the worship of Almighty God each weekday. Thanks for joining me on this Tuesday. Hope you had a wonderful Monday. The other night I woke up in the middle of the night very thirsty. You may have had those experiences before. Your mouth is super dry. Mine felt dry as a bone. And I wondered, maybe did I have too much salt at dinner? I wasn't really sure. Maybe I didn't drink enough the previous day. Well, when I got up, the first thing I did was, yeah, you guessed it. I drank a full glass of water, cold water. Man, that water was so good, it felt like the first time I'd ever had water. It was so good. And my thirst, yes, was quenched. But his thirst was for God. I thought about that that night in the middle of the night drinking that water. I thought about Psalm 63, where David says this, O God, you are my God. Earnestly I seek you. My soul thirsts for you, my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Friend, David rose early in the morning to seek God. He did. He was very descriptive for us in illustrating what our thirst could be for him should be for him. Yes, David struggled with the flesh as we remember the account of Bathsheba. But friend, you and I, we live in fleshly bodies, even though we walk in the resurrection of Jesus Christ if we know him. We need to constantly repent and turn back to God. David desired God in a desperate way. How desperate are you today, friend, for God, for his presence? To behold his power and glory in the sanctuary, as the scripture says in Psalm sixty three, and be satisfied as with rich food? What are you drinking of in your life for satisfaction? Only you and God know. Yesterday you may have feasted on the things of the world, but today, friend, is a new day with new mercies. Limitations three. Let's all draw near to God through Jesus the Son today through prayer, meditating on his word, and singing his praise. Last night I had the opportunity to spend time with some of the most wonderful young adults. I get to spend time with them a couple Mondays a month, and I'm so blessed. Liz, Luke, and Andrew, I am so proud of you, and I see God at work in each of you in unique ways. Thank you for being an example to me and others to take serious living for Jesus and seeking hard after him. Friend, this week and today, may we seek after the Lord through prayer, communing with him, meditating on his word every moment that we can. Well, until Wednesday and forever, may we worship Jesus Christ. Thanks for listening.
