This episode reflects on the pain of rejection, from childhood experiences like being the last picked in a game to more recent disappointments such as missed opportunities. It acknowledges how rejection can lead us to question our worth, but emphasizes that human rejection is not a measure of our value.
The central truth is that believers are not rejected by God. Scripture reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, chosen in Christ, and adopted into God’s family. While people often judge based on outward appearance or personal preference, God sees the heart and His evaluation is perfect and rooted in love.
The episode encourages listeners to combat the fear of rejection by grounding their identity in Christ, recognizing the limitations of human approval, and trusting in God’s unshakable purposes. Ultimately, it points to the greater reality that, though we may experience rejection from others, we are fully accepted, chosen, and loved in Christ.
Welcome And The Fear Series
SPEAKER_00My friend, welcome to Moments of Worship on this Thursday, March the 19th. I'm your host, Pastor Keith McMahon. This podcast seems to be an encouragement to you in the worship of Almighty God each weekday. And this podcast is brought to you by AbidingGod.org. We continue our series on fear. Do you remember those childhood moments playing kickball? You know, with the big red ball, everyone lined up and two captains were chosen, and one by one they picked their team until only one person remained. No one wanted to be that last pick. Even as children we felt it, that sting of rejection. Or maybe for you it's more recent. Maybe you're a musician, and you didn't get that solo you had hoped for. Someone else was chosen. And in that moment the thoughts began to creep in. Why not me? What's wrong with me? If only I were more like them. Rejection is painful. It causes us to turn inward, to analyze and question our worth. But often rejection is not a verdict on your value, it is simply a choice, a not this time or not this role. But here's where we must anchor ourselves in truth. You are not rejected by God. Scripture says, I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139, 14. And even more in Christ, you are not just created, you are redeemed and received. Ephesians one four through five. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ. Think about that. Chosen, not overlooked, adopted, not rejected. We often feel rejection so deeply because people loom large in our minds. Their opinions can feel ultimate, but Scripture redirects our focus. The Lord sees not as man sees. Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. God's evaluation of you is perfect, intentional, and rooted in his love. So how do we combat the fear of rejection? First, remember who you are in Christ. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come. Friend, your identity is not defined by who chooses you or overlooks you, it is defined by Christ. Second, understand the nature of people. Apart from God's grace, people make decisions based on their own interest, preferences and limitations. That's simply the reality of a fallen world. Their choices are just their preferences and not indicative of who you are in Christ. As Paul reminds us, if I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Third, rest in God's unshakable purpose for your life. What God has planned for you cannot be undone by someone else's decision. What God has planned for you cannot be undone by someone else's decision. Hear the scripture from Job forty two two. I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. And again, we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good. No missed opportunity, no overlooked moment, no human rejection can cancel what God is doing in you and through you. So take heart, dear friend. The rejection you feel from others is small compared to how Christ was rejected and the acceptance you have in Christ. You are chosen, you are known, and you are loved. Thank you for joining me on this episode of Moments of Worship. I look forward to seeing you back here on Friday, March the 20th. Until then and forever, may we worship Jesus Christ. Thanks for listening.
