Speaker 1:

Hello everyone, welcome back to another mini-sode. I really liked this week's episode with Jake Thurston. What did you guys think? Do you still think you don't need friends? Maybe you are convinced that you have the perfect friends. Maybe you're in that season where you're still trying to figure out what kind of friend you are. I know I've been in and out of that season.

Speaker 1:

Trying to make friends as a mom is very difficult. I mean, that's just a general. I've heard that from many different moms before and yeah, it's. Making friends as an adult is not easy, which is interesting because we have more ability to do things together. We just were so busy. We don't socialize, we don't use social media the way it's supposed to be. We doom, scroll through all these people who are showing us the highlights of their lives and we think, oh, they're better than me, so I don't want to have anything to do with them. Or you compare yourself to other people, so why would you want to be friends like that? So there's many different barriers that we keep ourselves from in order to not have friends, and this episode that I just did with Jake Thurston was a really good opportunity to confront those. I don't know if you've had a chance to read his book, but you really should. It's an amazing book. I loved it. It's very relatable, very easy, but full of so much wisdom and research. So if you haven't gotten a chance to get his book, you Need Friends. You definitely should, and the link will be in the show notes for the episode we did together and it'll also be there for this episode.

Speaker 1:

Today I want to talk about how important it is to stay close to Christ. That is the biggest friendship we need to work on. I have not always done it well. I'll be honest, and anyone who's listened to me share my testimony would know that I'll be honest, and anyone who's listened to me share my testimony would know that. And anyone who knows me well in person also knows that. But it is a daily struggle to try and make time for God. We've got all this other stuff going on in our lives. We've got children, we've got husbands, wives. We've got everything going on our jobs. We're going, going, going constantly. So we don't make time for the most important relationship we'll ever have, which is with Christ, and I have been trying to be more intentional about making sure he's first.

Speaker 1:

Once I open my eyes for the, I say a prayer of thanks for being alive. I've been trying to work through different Bible verses that I've been memorizing. I try to pray for people who come to my mind first thing in the morning, and I'm not perfect. Sometimes there's days where that's just not how it goes and those things get put aside until I remember that I did or didn't do something, and that's okay. We shouldn't be doing that on a consistent basis, because I can be the first to tell you that life is so much easier to handle when you don't do that and put God on the back burner. He is that constant friend. He sticks closer than a brother. That's what the Bible says, and it is true. He is there for you all the time. When you are stressing and you can't get a hold of your other friends, god is there for you. You can reach out to him and say I need your help, please help me through this, and he's there. He's there to pick you up when you fall.

Speaker 1:

Part of what Jake was talking about towards the end of our conversation he mentioned one of his chapters was called Naked and Afraid. No, that's the beginning of the chapter and he mentioned it in the episode, but the moral of the story is that we need friends to help pick us up in the middle of our crap, is what he called it. And it's true. We need that. And guess who is the ultimate friend to help us through all of that? Jesus Christ, our living Savior, our loving Father, our Abba Father. He is the lifter of our head. He heals us from our broken wounds. He turns our junk into beautiful treasures. He is everything we need. It is the most important relationship we will ever have is with Christ. So we need to steward that relationship better than maybe we have been.

Speaker 1:

We're not going to be perfect, but each and every day we need to strive to be the best version of ourselves by the end of that day, because that is all we really have. We don't know if we're going to have the next day. We don't even know if we're going to have that day. So I dare to say, in whatever moment you are currently living, be the best version of yourself and put as much time into your relationship with God as you can. In that moment, even if it's just a quick prayer of thanks, even if it's just an acknowledgement of something he did for you the day before or earlier that day. Just put God first and see how your life is easier to handle. It's not gonna be easy. It will be easier to handle the difficult things because you have a friend who sticks closer than a brother, who loves you, who is there for you, who knows everything, who knows where you've been and where you're going.

Speaker 1:

He has seen you at your worst. He has seen you in the future. He has seen you at your best. He knows everything past, present, future. He knows it all. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Speaker 1:

Hebrews 13, 8. He knows you. He knew you when Jesus died on the cross for your sins. He knew who you were because you weren't born then. You're not that old, you weren't born then but he knew you. He knew what you were going to be up to and he still wants to be your friend. He still wants to be your father. He wants you in his family.

Speaker 1:

He still died for you. He didn't die for the world and not Anna. He didn't die for the world and whoever's listening. He didn't die for them. No, he died for the whole world, not except anybody. He died for all of us, all of us. There are no exceptions, except for those who choose to live their lives and reject that gift. I guess you could say that's the only person, but even still, he still died for them to have that opportunity to come to him. Some people just don't want to take it.

Speaker 1:

So here's your question for this week Are you being a good BFF to Christ? Are you being a good best friend forever to Christ, who you call your BFF? I know I have not always been. I'm trying, I'm still learning. I'm not perfect, you're not perfect, but are you at least trying to make an effort to be a good friend to Christ, your Savior? It's the most important relationship you will ever work on and because of that all other relationships will be easier to handle and to work through the tough issues on if you can figure this one out. So that's your question for today Mold that over, chew it over, talk it over with God and figure out a plan to be a better friend to God. All right, everyone. Have a good day, god bless.
