Well, what are they doing? Well, actually are they going to camp or anything? Yeah, actually, this week Betsy is at rock camp. And Georgia is not. Or she just like paints rocks. It's not that kind of rock. But uh they do it. There's like a week for the older kids, right? So Betsy is old enough now. Actually, she's not even tight. That week is supposed to be 14 to 17 year olds. And Betsy's still 13. They let her in early. They let her in early. So Betsy's in the at Rock Camp this week, and then in two weeks. What does she play? Uh this year she's doing guitar. Okay. Last year she did drums. Um they switch it every year, yeah. How to play it. Yeah, exactly. That's part. Like in the mornings, they do um like uh lessons, and then the afternoons they get into their bands and they write and practice the song that they're you know writing during camp.

I see. So they're gonna teach them one song. No, they have to write it.

Right, she's going to the same camp, but it's the week for the little kids, you know, 10 to 13. Uh-huh. And that's in like two weeks. Uh-huh. But yeah, they got other camps lined up, and they're, you know, it's summer. Summertime is here.

It was funny you mentioned that because we uh I had a conversation with her about this very topic yesterday. And what'd she say? She said something like she's not good at reading or she doesn't like to read, and I told her that that was complete horseshit and that she should pick up a book for 10 minutes. I said, 10 minutes is like I said, add up all the hours you spend on your phone.

And I said, I said, I won't accept it. Like, you just gotta read. Yeah. And I think I guilted and shamed her enough that she picked up a book. And uh But do you help her find a book? I do. Uh as a matter of fact, she she read the book that I was reading, which was recommended to me by her sister. But what about young adult? Like well, that's what this book is. This is a very much a oh yeah, you gotta wait for this car. Actually, they're probably gonna turn in right there. Do you know that car? Yeah, I see I see them enough that um turn on the first time. Um this is a one-way road, yeah. Sure is.

Yeah, most of the time. So he's gonna go open the gate. He needs to get a little solar panel on his gate. Right. Like you got the gate with the buttons with the solar panel. Yeah, they just installed this fence in this gate, like not too long ago. Oh, he's got a gate opener. It's his kid. Right, right. It's not the kind you're talking about, but yeah, um Right, so this book is super good. It's called A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. I'm sure it's very well known in like the young adult fiction world. And um, and anyway, so yeah, Torgio has started reading that. Oh, good. And it's super good. It's really good. I'm glad I read it. You read it. I read it because Betsy recommended it. She said, Dad, read this book. Okay. And of course, at first I was like, oh, I'm not gonna read this, this kid literature. Uh but I was like, you know, I'll keep an open mind. And I'm so glad that I did because it was super good. Yeah. Uh and I can't wait to pick up the sequel. But I haven't started. I just finished it yesterday.

Well, my daughter is also having a little summertime. She's been going to school, I think, pretty much non-stop since high school. Okay. And she graduated college in the but she went the last three summers and graduated college. Uh I guess almost early, really. I mean, anyway, I all I know is that she hasn't had a summer off since high school, which would have been right because she was she was probably going to summer term, even though. Yeah, she went to summer school. Yeah, she went to summer term because she wanted to get done. Right, she wanted to knock out the credits. And so now it's her first summer, but shh when she she's going to law school in the fall. Right. And then they're gonna have her busy every every summer. First, second, third summer. I mean, first, second summer, third summer, she's gonna get a job.

And they told her at law school, they said, you really need to rest before you come here.

So she's going with me on this trip uh tomorrow, um, going to Denver and then LA, and so that'll be fun for us. So she's got something to do. But she said, speaking of books, she goes, see this book. I said, Have you been reading a book? I was sorry yesterday, I was kind of joking around because I didn't think she read too much. She said, She said, I read it this book during the semester, and it was like, you know, uh however many pages, 250 pages, 300 pages book, whatever. She said, It took me all semester to read that book because I was in school. Right. She said, I read a book 30 pages longer yesterday, like today. Like yesterday, which would have been the day before. Right. So now she's got so much. I read this book and I read this book yesterday that was even longer than that. Right. So she's got so much time she read a book, an entire book in a day. Nice. Which I think is pretty good. I mean, now you're basically just sitting in bed all day at that point, which I think is what she just loves to do.

Yeah, but there's no you can't beat that. A good book where you can escape into another universe, you know, for a day, like you know, that's you can't beat that. That's the best.

You know it. My my sister joined the book club when she got out to her new apartment complex out there, and she's enjoyed it. I think she enjoys having no, you know, meeting people, hanging out, have something to do, and make some friends.

Kind of I kind of guess I would like to I'd rather listen to a book so that I could do other things. Now that's an interesting question because I I've been meaning to get on Reddit. I I don't really I get on Reddit and I scroll a little bit, but I'm not very like um I don't post anything really. Yeah. And I've always felt a little guilty about that. I want to, you know, I feel like I want to be more engaged with the people. Yeah, yeah, right, exactly. And I've been for like years now, I've been meaning to get on Reddit and ask this on the uh Oh, I forgot what subreddit it was, but it's the appropriate one. If you listen to an audiobook, can you say that you've read that book? Well because technically you have not know that you have to ask Reddit because I'm right here. Well, I could ask you too, but I want to also ask Reddit. My son is dyslexic. Okay, and he only listens to books because he can't read very well. Now, what he so when he finishes listening to a book, does he say, Oh, I read? He always says he read this book. But he didn't read shit. He listened to it. Yeah, well, it counts. You can ask my question. Yeah, yeah, it counts. Yeah.

Then I started watching the second game. Okay. And I didn't watch the whole second game. I was a little frustrated because it looked like the Knicks were gonna win again. I'm like, I want it to be back and forth, right? That would be more exciting. And sure enough, the Knicks win the second game. Then I started to watch the third game, and I realized, like, first of all, these games are late for us out here on this coast, right?

Like you're already talking about your team. But now that the Knicks are like, you know, about to clinch? About to clinch the the the finals, it's just like, you know, all right. A better idea is to try to turn it around and like find out something about them that they're interested in, and then when you see them, ask them about that thing. And at some point, you're gonna turn out to be like they're gonna want to tell you that they're they want you to be interested in they're complaining because they they don't have enough friendships or special, you know. I think that there's a way that you could turn it around and become their friend.

Love is Blind, they can't see each other, and they want to get married, and they go through this whole marriage thing. Love Island is a totally different beast. Love Island is just a hookup culture on an island with young people. Right. It's totally gross and totally like terrible, bad. It's like everything about it's bad. It's bad stereotypes of men, bad stereotypes of women, total garbage, hookup culture, all everything it's just awful. The way it works is for six weeks, these people are they make an episode a day and in real time. Okay, it's in real time. Two days a week. They don't show on Wednesday and Saturdays, they don't have the episodes. But every night they have these episodes, and you're it's an hour long, and you're following these s couples as they hook up with their people, and then maybe they switch and hook up with somebody different. So the guy's like, I don't like you, I'm gonna go this other girl. Right. A girl might be I don't like you, I'm gonna go to this other guy.

It's Florida friendly. It doesn't mean it's native, it's Florida friendly. It's just Florida friendly, yeah, right? And so he doesn't plant lantanas normally. He he plants as much native stuff as he can, but some things are not native and they're still do really well here. But uh he's um he's also into butterflies, he goes travels the world to collect butterflies. So he loves anything that's a nectar source, he's really into things that are gonna draw butterflies. Right.

So I mean maybe you do if I waited another month or two, I don't know, but right now it's about knee high, and I'm out there just and I'll just I can spend hours pulling up ragweed from my yard. I bet you could. Pope weed. I pull up the poke weed. Um, I pull up the uh uh it's called uh what's that one called? Nightshade. Okay. I have to pull up nightshade. I have to pull up the the potato vine. Yep. There's so many things I'm eradicating from my yard that are really, really bad. Smilac. The smilac is that's the one with the thorns. Yeah. I hate that. It's a vine that we have smilacs coming up the size of my little finger, right? That are coming up in this field.

It was this in it wasn't a square, but I mean it was just this enormous, massive root. I wish I would have got a picture of it. It was but he's digging those up all the time. Every time we come to a smile, the roots have been down there for 40 years. They're enormous. Yeah. And you can't just pull them, you've got to dig them up. Oh, but it's a good thing. Can't even poison them. Why not? Anyway, uh well, because you you can poison the if you poison this tiny little vine, it's not gonna go down and kill a root that's as big as you know, uh a watermelon.

Yeah, and I and because is and and I had and and and and and I remember because today I was on my riding lawnmower and I was thinking of it. Oh yeah, somebody wants to know my thoughts on the lawnmower. And I started to gather them at that point.

But the zero turn is great if you have to go around a lot of trees or you're going in and out. Like if you if you have a big just a big square yard, uh-huh, I feel like a regular riding lawnmower is fine. You go down, you turn around, you go back, you go to back. So you turn around, you go, you make a big square, whatever, right? But if you have a like my yard, which is full of trees and all kinds of things in the way, I need I don't that thing would just be inefficient. You want maneuverability. I have maneuverability. Now, I would last time I was at Lowe's, I happened to see the riding lawnmower out front, and they want about three grand for it. I'm sure it's like a three, three thousand dollar gas package riding mower, yeah. Right. Um, and if you want a zero turn, you're probably gonna spend four grand on one, you know, or five grand according to how at least, yeah. But I'm all for it. I love my I I love my zero turn. I got the electric one or the battery powered one because it was on it was a sale and it had a five-year warranty for batteries and everything. Yeah, covered everything five years. I'm like, I'd get a five-year warranty. Sure, yeah. So it does everything I need to do in a charge and it's quiet. And it's uh it will but it was five grand. It was five grand. I'm sure it was, yeah. But I'm on my third year now with it. And how's it working still? Today was the first day that I was just like, what is up with that? Like I went, I went to get in it and I turned it on and it came up to 76%. But it should have been full. It should have been 100%. I can understand if it's at 99 or 98 because of, you know, it's been a couple years, but it should be at 76. Uh-huh. So I'm gonna try check it again, and if it's if it doesn't, if it's does that again where it's in the 70% range, I'm calling my warranty in. Well, that's what it that's what it's for. Hey, dude, this thing ain't charging. Now, I went out and mowed everything I needed to mow, and I still had 25% left, so it's not a big deal. Right. But it should be able to charge. But anyway, I would hope so. Yeah. It's supposed to be a two-eight, it's supposed to be two to three acres.

I'm not really even looking at the festivals. Well, most of the time, if you're in a big city, these are big time festivals, right? And so they're not just showing like weird sh experimental shit that I'm making. Yeah. I'd I'd I'd submitted to all these festivals, and I was trying to pick ones that were like the date was soon because I don't want to wait till December to find out if I got into some festival or not. This project is over. It's not that big of a problem. It's not like I spent my whole life making this movie and I gotta get it out there. I'm gonna, you know. I was basing on where it was. My friend who's in Oi, who does movie, like film, they make movies. She was visiting right when I was done smitting. I was like, I can't submit to anymore. This is crazy. And she goes, Oh, I talked to her about the movie. She said, Oh, you need to apply to verticals. What you're doing is verticals. Have you heard of verticals? So verticals is the new thing, right? But I didn't, I was, I had been spent a couple weeks doing it, and I was just like, I spent a bunch of money because you have to pay to for the festival. Sure. I said, uh, forget it. It doesn't matter. I don't have any energy to be like putting into this. I don't even think like I didn't even realize well. So as time went on, I realized like, and you're getting rejected from festival, rejected for rejected, rejected. And I was like, oh, like these, and I look at these festivals like, oh, these are like these are like canned. Film festivals, right? And so I'm like, my film is like made on a phone, it's real like thrown together or whatever. And so I was like, whatever. I'm not gonna so I decided what I would do is at some point, maybe around my next birthday, maybe I rent the Hippodrome, I invite people in town. I'm gonna have a show. Great idea. One of the things about my movie that I think is interesting is when you you know, like when you go to a movie, everybody's like, put your like, put don't have your phones out. Like the last time I watched a movie, like don't have your phones out, don't talk, blah, blah, blah. They're real strict. My movie's the opposite. It's an experimental. Hey, if you want to talk, you can talk. Sure. If you want to have your phone out, take your phone out. Like, this is because it's a silent film, there's you can have a conversation with person next to you, you can pull your phone out and check. I don't care. Like, that's the kind of movie it is. So, so I think that that is just another thing that makes it interesting. Anyway, um they so the these festivals are happening. I'm not, and I'll but I but I haven't if I have it in town, I would tell people, like, hey, whatever, just no, no big deal. So I had given up on the festival thing, and then all of a sudden I get an email. It's like you've been selected to be in this festival. Yeah. I'm like, whoa, and it's in Toronto. I thought that'd be cool. Yeah. And so I went to um I went to the place where you um I went to the it's it it the it's a site where you fit you're looking, you submit to festivals and they tell you about festivals and stuff. And um, and so that's where I and and I said, let and and you can read um you can read reviews of the festival, right? This is called the Toronto Arts and Entertainment Film Festival. Okay. The Toronto has like a big film festival. This is a new festival, it's only in its second year. Okay. We're two years running. So uh I went to read a review, actually, my wife did, and she read to me, and I it's such a good review. So here's a review of this festival that I'm going to, right? I know nothing about these festivals. You don't know what you're getting into, right? The festival is a two-day festival, June the 27th and 28th. So at the end of this month. This June. Yeah. So they're telling me right now, you've been selected to a festival in two weeks, right? Now you don't have to go to the festival. You can do your movie can get shown. You don't have to be there, right? But I the whole point of me submitting to festivals is so I could go to a place and be like, hey, you guys can you guys can do whatever you want during my movie, and after the movie, let's have a discussion about time because it's about time. What do you do with your time? Da-da-da. And uh, and so I thought that would be the fun part is is that part. So I um so then Caroline looked into it and she found out that she's like, okay, this festival is happening in this theater. She, I don't know where she found this information, not from the place I'm about to read, but she just found it's happening in a theater that usually only shows Bollywood films in Hindi or whatever, right? And they've rented this theater for two days. Yeah, they have like this festival supposedly has like 15 categories experimental, horror, sci-fi, whatever, shorts. How are you gonna show that many films in two days? You know, you've got 15, 20 different categories, right? And then you've rented this Bollywood theater, which is fine, but it's like it's just it it that's just that it's not like it's all over town at different theater, it's at this one theater two days, right? In two weeks, right? Right, but this is the this is the um, it says why this guy writes, while I am grateful always to have a film accepted by a festival, I'm sorry, but this festival was not a good experience. In order to do better next year, the showrunners of the festival would need to, you ready? Oh, I'm ready, stop talking to each other constantly in the theater during the screenings. Stop using brightly lit cell phones in the theater during the screenings.
