Emmylou Babcock says:
We talk about Tulsa and why we're here. Spoiler alert: not my job. There is a zoo here, but I haven't been. There's also an aquarium near by that's supposed to be pretty cool.
Okay, so on the podcast today they were like, why did you move to Tulsa? And they thought it was because of your job.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I haven't gotten that far yet.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I was gonna explain that there was Tulsa Remote, which was a program that you can Google. You can just like Google Tulsa Remote and you'll see what it is. But I got paid $10,000 to move to Tulsa, and I had to like live here for a year. And I had to like sign a contract saying I would like stay employed remotely, and then we got $10,000. And I think for like the year I wasn't supposed to disparage the Great Land of Tulsa. But now that I've lived here for a year.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't matter, your contract is ended.
SPEAKER_02And two and a half months, I can say that Tulsa is a fucking shithole.
SPEAKER_01Not all of it. I am a Tulsa apologist in many ways.
SPEAKER_02But not every way.
SPEAKER_01Not in every way. There are some really great things about Tulsa.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's correct.
SPEAKER_01Some great things about Tulsa include it doesn't usually take very long to get anywhere.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like the longest it's gonna take you to get anywhere is gonna be like 25 minutes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And people fill their diapers over it. Um other great things about Tulsa. I mean, if we wanna hearken back to the old podcast, like it has a pretty skyline.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think the buildings are really pretty.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, we have nice friends here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Who aren't from here.
SPEAKER_01They are not we are not friends with anyone except for Oklahoma Bro, who's not in the program. Um that makes it sound like we're talking about AA, the program.
SPEAKER_02And our realtor, who's the greatest.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we like him. What's up, Dave? David Dunkelberg. Um ever need to buy a house in Tulsa. There's some good restaurants here, too, that we like. Dunk's your man.
SPEAKER_02Um Domino's buyerhouse and make some mean pie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the Bigfoot Dominoes, they're familiar.
SPEAKER_02Um, I'm not gonna like rant about the bad stuff. There's too much. It just is an awful place.
SPEAKER_01There's a lot of stray dogs and cats. That's an issue.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, the people here are crazy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They are out of their fucking minds. Um what else? Some great homies. Hey.
SPEAKER_02Some great homies on Discord. So that's nice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Who are some of them are from here. Some of them are from here. Um, it's hot. It's so hot and humid.
SPEAKER_01It's so hot. But I have a saying. I could I've complained a lot about the heat over this podcast, but I have a saying that I embrace the heat because the heat embraces me. Like there's no other option. You just have to deal with it.
SPEAKER_02Emmy also keeps saying, if you can't beat the heat, you gotta beat your meat.
SPEAKER_01I don't say that.
SPEAKER_02She says that all the time, but I don't say that. She comes in the house stomping her feet and she says, If you can't beat the heat, you gotta beat your meat.
SPEAKER_01Um, I there's like I kind of like getting in the car when it's really hot, like when it's been sitting out all day. Then you burn your elbow on the Yeah. I kind of like that. I think that's fun.
SPEAKER_02I have both in the car.
SPEAKER_01Um, Brahms. We love Brahms.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, shut up, Brahms.
SPEAKER_01We love Brams. You can get Brahms in Texas. Not that we're gonna move to Texas, we're not moving to Texas. Um negatives about Tulsa.
SPEAKER_02It's too many. We don't need to get into it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I think the big things for us, or the I mean, the big thing for me is the stray animals.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, stray animals.
SPEAKER_01Oh, another great thing about Tulsa is the airport. Love the airport. Bad thing about Tulsa, the roads. But also with the airport, you can't fly direct anywhere. Well, that's not true. You can go to Denver and Dallas.
SPEAKER_02It's convenient for us because we go to those two places.
SPEAKER_01But we've I've only ever flown to Dallas once, and it I felt like it's the Eddie. There's a flight that goes from one place to another place where Eddie and Catherine live, and they call it the Climate Criminal Express, and that's kind of how I feel flying from Tulsa to Dallas.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, to go like a 40-minute flight or a four-hour drive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you just gotta do the drive. But the roads are so bad.
SPEAKER_02I'm not doing that drive. I'm flying on Monday.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, but you're going to California after that. It's not like your destination is Dallas. Yeah. Um is going berserk. Berserk. The weather is cuckoo bananas. I like the storms, they are kind of fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I just leave through the storms.
SPEAKER_01I I have a good time with the storms. The first one was very scary. The first, and like, we're not very good. I'm not very good at driving in the rain. So that's been take that's that was took some getting used to. But no, we didn't move to Tulsa for an aquatics job. You can get an aquatics job anywhere.
SPEAKER_02Moved here for the 10 grand, and now I realize I'm too old to have moved somewhere shitty for 10 grand, but I think it's okay.
SPEAKER_01Also, there are our friends, some of our friends who did it are older than us. I think it's good we move to Tulsa.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't really want to move back to Denver, but we still might.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I want to move to Western New York, or I want to move to Washington or Oregon.
SPEAKER_02And I want to go back to school more full time someday.
SPEAKER_01So I want to start school. I gotta actually I need to enroll in classes for the fall because I can't keep doing aquatics forever. It sucks.
SPEAKER_02How many minutes are we up to?
SPEAKER_01Um, I don't know. Six.
SPEAKER_02Oh, we're sitting on to the Grammy cutoff.
SPEAKER_01Kind of. They're gonna have to release this as a special app, but I don't think we're gonna do a Teams call this week.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, this we didn't do a Teams call last week.
SPEAKER_01No, we didn't, and I'm I'm teaching an in-service on Gertie.
SPEAKER_02Gurdy.
SPEAKER_01Our dog is doing rumpus at us.
SPEAKER_02She says, hello, Slicebird. Hello, Gator. My name's Gertie.
SPEAKER_00That's not what her voice sounds like.
SPEAKER_02Hello, Siceberg. Hello, Gator. My name's Gertie.
SPEAKER_00Hello, my name's Gertie. Hi. My name's Gorty. Hello, Siceberg.
SPEAKER_02We'll send a pick. We'll send a pick of Gertie.
SPEAKER_00Could you please have a pizza?
SPEAKER_02For the gram. Extra pepperoni.
SPEAKER_00I need the pepperoni, please. I like the snotted judge. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Extra pepperoni, please.
SPEAKER_01Um. Yeah. Another thing about my job that we did not move here for is that it's kind of a big a big demotion from other aquatics jobs I've been doing. So I'm doing a lot of grunt work. But that's okay. I needed a job when we moved here and I didn't have one. So now I have one.
SPEAKER_02And now you know Oklahoma, bro.
SPEAKER_01And now I know Oklahoma, bro, and I'm grateful for that. He gave me a cool sal. He gave me a bag full of vegetables I gotta bring home. Wow. Um his garden. Oh, dang.
SPEAKER_02Cool.
SPEAKER_01He grew a bunch of eggplants. I said I'd make Baba Ganoush. Oh, stunning.
SPEAKER_02Baba Ganoush. Baba Ganoush.
SPEAKER_01That's gonna be a long one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sorry. That's fine.
SPEAKER_01We don't care. We're probably not Teams calling. Yeah, we're bad boys. I know they talk about the Teams call because I usually look at all the chapters.
SPEAKER_02What's your cool podcast nickname gonna be? We got Gator.
SPEAKER_01Well, remember, we actually talked about this on a Teams call that I didn't submit. But if we're gonna make college-based um nicknames for ourselves, I would be Ralphie.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And you would be Grizz.
SPEAKER_02No, but I already have a nickname. It's Shell Dog.
SPEAKER_01I guess. So what would mine be?
SPEAKER_02M-bones.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, M-bones. No one called me that except for you.
unknownDang.
SPEAKER_02We'll keep working on it.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I guess I'll just turn it off now. Bye, love you.
