Speaker 1:

Welcome, family, to another episode of Song of Cypher. I'm here with bro Roderick Came to bring us some music and talk about his journey, so let's go ahead and give him a cheering round of applause real quick. Welcome to the show, fam.

Speaker 2:

That's what's up.

Speaker 1:

Let's go. So Let me know, brother, how's it going fam.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it's blessing, blessing always and just pushing, you know it, just pushing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, what you doing nowadays, man. What's keeping you busy Taking care of?

Speaker 3:

the kiddos wife and staying grounded in the church home and just being rooted in my music and I was putting more artists out there, trying to find a niche for more artists out there. So eyes always open.

Speaker 1:

Great, great. So how did you start your faith journey? How did all of this come about? Let's start with you know. How was you saved?

Speaker 3:

Oh story, Picture yourself. Okay, I was always safety with with going with the gospel because I thought it was for good people and I just see good and where I was, my environment, so I didn't think it was ever for us. I didn't grow up in a church home and I wasn't in no Bible. My parents wasn't in no Bible. I ain't seen nobody playing, you know so. But what happened was like I met a girl and eventually, at the age of 27, I met this girl and I was intrigued by her. She said I'll give you my number if you go to church with me. I said, oh, I'll do whatever I mean she got you. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3:

She threw the fishing line at us. So I'm going like, hey, whatever I got to do, so in my world, you know, what happened was that I didn't want a church for the next day and the church was. I can say his name, because he very probably has a testimony His name is Bishop Fred Washington At his church. I went to that church and he preached the love of Jesus Christ and I never heard that message before like that. So my eyes went off on her and it was focused on Jesus, amen. I didn't even get with this girl like that. It was just like, oh, it's like God, use me I mean, use her to get my attention.

Speaker 3:

To bring you in, bring me in. Well, my attention was lust. But when I, when I when I, when Jesus, I was like I'm more intrigued with him. You know, yes, and I yeah. So then that's what I, my my faith started.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so let me ask you this what was you doing? Obviously, you said you know lust is what brought you into the church, right, Because you was interested in this young lady. She asked for you to go to church, and all of that. But what was you doing before then? What was your?

Speaker 3:

lifestyle, like there's some things you know I got to say carefully because I ran the streets. I put it like that yes, I was hustling, I was. I'm going to say it, I was a player, yes, see.

Speaker 1:

I don't think you should be ashamed of that, because I was also in the streets. You know what I mean. Most of us Christian hip-hop heads, rappers, most rappers, hip-hop rappers, period. Most rappers, hip-hop rappers period uh, we come from. You know street type life, or you know lives that aren't, aren't great. You know what I mean. Most of us, some of us, just in it, just because you know they like the music, and that's fine too. I'm not, I'm not coming for them people. But you know hip hop is almost rooted around uh, a negative lifestyle, you know, and it's and it's almost glorified in the music. You know what I mean. Uh, the negative lifestyle man, let's be honest here in the, in the secular rap. But you shouldn't be ashamed of that because that's a testimony to where you were at then and where you're at now. You see what I'm saying, so please continue.

Speaker 3:

It's something that God forgave me. The thing about it let me put it in this story here Money was my God.

Speaker 3:

That's a simple way of thinking Money was my idol, I mean money in front of it. Let's a simple way of thinking. Money was my idol. I mean money in front of it, let's do it. But I have limitations. I don't mean everything, but when it came to feeding my family and grinding or saying I do a little whoop, whoop, I will do what I gotta do.

Speaker 3:

But without a dollar I feel less of a man, because I was told growing up that if there's no money in your pocket ain't much left to wear in the pants. So that's so. The message was in my head all day. So if I had no money in my pocket, I feel like I can't get a girl. I can't get, I can't. I can't eat, I can't do, I can't, I can't eat, I can't do none of that. So I needed money, but without but. So I was in the streets, like that I was. I fell into the streets at 14 when I was doing things at 8 years old, 9 years old, stealing bikes whatever but 14, when I really got like reckless reckless with it, so let me take you here then, then, all right.

Speaker 1:

So now you know you, you made it to church. Uh, god seen that. You know, lust was probably a way to bring you in right. Yeah, she used the, the, that young lady you know, uh, to bring you in right and uh, she got you there, she got you in the door. So now, now you got intrigued. You felt, uh, the holy spirit work within you, felt, you felt god's presence. How did you get from there to your christian hip-hop? And you know your music okay.

Speaker 3:

Well, I'm gonna bring it back just a little bit and bounce the spring right forward. When I went to a church with a girl one time and she said I'll make you some cornbread. So that's my thing, everybody loves me, I know I love my cornbread.

Speaker 3:

So she said, I'll make you a plate of cornbread, I said, okay, let's go, I go to church with you. But when I said, okay, let's go, I go to church which. But when I went to church that day, I cried. I cried because everything he was saying the pastor was saying was conflicting me as I was sitting in bed. It made me feel like I was doing it wrong, or this is wrong, and I'm like I don't want to feel wrong. So I left the church and I said I never want to go back there. I don't want to feel guilty selling. So I left the church and I said I never want to go back there. I don't want to feel guilty selling it, I want to feel like this is the thing to do. Let me relax in my ignorance and make me feel like this is right.

Speaker 3:

So when I got to her in which then God was heard, it was more of my like I said lusty desire. It was more than to quench it. But now it's a lust thing and what got me from there was that it took me within that year to like learn Jesus. But the more I started learning of his word and his testimonies of Jesus Christ, the more I wanted the Holy Ghost. So I wanted 12 services like 12 services to catch the Holy Ghost. I didn't know how to catch it. I don't want to fake it. I said, okay, I want to pretend. How do I really get this thing? So I was asking questions and then I went to a church in Chata Temple in Minneapolis and I just went to a service.

Speaker 3:

They had a little conference going on and this minister stood up at the. They had like a new members class session going on. Before I let everybody leave, he says there's somebody in this room who's been trying to seek the Holy Ghost and just can't get it. And I said, oh well, you're telling me, you know. So yeah, he was like leave your. If you got your keys in the car, forget your keys. If you left some money at the house, if you got your money, don't do nothing, just go to the altar and just receive them, just just leave a free mind. So I went to the sermon passed the preaching. I was eager, just wait for him to do the benediction. I'm like, okay, I hear the word, but frozen thing out Soon. He said you might want to go to the altar. I jumped up, ran to the altar like I want to get this done. You know, I forgot about everything. I followed all the instructions and I received the Holy Spirit that day.

Speaker 1:

Amen man, and that brought me to God. Works beautifully, don't?

Speaker 3:

he, yeah and right there, brought revelation. So I went to my boys and I told them I said, man, I'm going to start rapping. He said what, man? Look, you can't start rapping, man, you know what I'm saying? I mean, you can save your life, you can change and everything, but don't start rap. I said, well, how do y'all feel about me doing Christian rap? They was like, uh, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

But then when I started doing Christian rap, they was like man, you still keep it alive in real life and they loved it. So I was still getting the street cred, even though I'm so.

Speaker 1:

they know that's my real life and I know my transformation so they respect it yeah so, you know, I I somewhat enjoy it a little bit when, when I talk about christian rap, right, and I get that response, uh, to people that don't listen to it and I enjoy it, because then, what I do, pop up this song and I pop up that song and sometimes I don't even tell them that it's christian rap, and you know I catch them.

Speaker 1:

Oh, this lot. But this is what gets me right. It shows me how much people actually pay attention to the words they're listening to, because sometimes they're vibing to the music, right, and they don't even notice that they're listening to Christian rap. So you're listening to all this secular rap music and you're listening to all these bad messages subliminally, pretty much. You don't know what you're taking in. You see what I'm saying. You don't know what you're allowing your mind to soak up like a sponge. If you're listening to Christian rap and you're thinking you're listening to regular rap, you see what I'm saying. You're not being aware of what you're listening to.

Speaker 1:

Now, when I turn around and tell them, I'm like you know that was Christian rap, they're like what you see and I like. I like that response because I'm like you couldn't tell a difference. Or or, even better, I was like man, who's that? Because a lot of the christian rappers man, I mean to be honest, if you ask me, they're more talented than the mainstream secular rappers that are in straight up, real talk. You know what I mean. So, yeah, I got your, I got your video here. I want to play it for the people. This was called let it rain. What was the inspiration behind this?

Speaker 3:

let it rain was uh, the inspiration by the rain is. I wrote it when I was going through an AA program and and learning. I was in Atlanta, georgia, and I was inspired because they were all like going through a situation. Everybody got their own story, their own journey.

Speaker 3:

What I learned from the understanding is that if you just let life reign, you know, like you know when it said accept the things you cannot change. What is the difference? When you accept the things you cannot change, you have a life that be life. It's just a way of your perspective, how you look at it. And when you start seeing idealistically how you got through life and you hear the TED say love, let love be love, let love be love. God is with you the whole way through. You know what I'm saying. You're going through these pains, you're going through this agony.

Speaker 3:

What broke me to this song is my relationship with my parents, the bitterness I had against them. I reestablished that relationship. I said I forgive you and I forgive myself on the hurt that I caused. I forgive the girls I was in love with. I mean, I was loving too hard, maybe I was doing too much, but now I'll let love. So this is a break free. So I'm saying like let let life be life and let love be love, and just let it ring amen to that brother.

Speaker 1:

Let's let the people, let's let the people feel that love Dan brother, let's go. Let me put this up over here this is my grandma's grave site Go away.

Speaker 2:

No, let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Rain, rain, go away.

Speaker 2:

No, let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Rain, rain, go away.

Speaker 2:

No, let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

My, my past is my past. But now them days gone. It's all good cause I moved on. It's a whole new day and a whole new song. Praise ye Lord. That's my song.

Speaker 2:

Forgive my parents for what they've done. There'd be no story if I wasn't their son. They hurt all cause the family. I forgive myself. I was just going through a crowd full of hell. So many relationships your boy has been through. I come to realize your boy had issues.

Speaker 2:

All I wanted was love, but way too hard. I won't press to the end till it broke our hearts, not today. I choose to humble myself. Let love be love. Less trouble on myself. I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'd rather let go and let God enjoy my life.

Speaker 2:

Rain, rain go away.

Speaker 2:

No, let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Rain, rain, go away.

Speaker 2:

No, let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

Let it let it rain all day. Thank you, jesus. All glory to God. I can trust you always when the rain's hard, no longer do I strive, just going for the ride. Do away the keys. God is my guide. I can sit here and tell you all about my life At the same time, tell you more about Christ Cause. All what I've been through. He's been there Today, so beautiful cause. He's right here In the midst of it all. He does not deny me To the end of my road. He stands beside me. Poverty, depression, all that above my testimony, is in the power of the blood. Jesus died and rose to the cross for a cause, sent us a comforter and love for us all. He led, I followed, he brought me this far Today. I rejoice. Thank you Lord. Rain, rain pour away. No, let it rain all day. Let no, let it rain all day. Let it let it rain all day. Let it let it rain all day. Rain, rain, cold wind no, let it rain all day. Let it let it rain all day. Let it let it rain all day, let it. Let it rain all day.

Speaker 2:

In his word I entreat In him. I believe I succeed. As I breathe, he'll give me what I need. No longer shall I dwell on the past. Don't think about how long the good's gonna last being in his light. Being in the blind Cause, I can see now the blessing in disguise. When it rains, the pause, but for showtime. So it comes through the night. So I sleep just fine. Let it rain, let it rain.

Speaker 1:

Nice, nice. That's what's up brother, that's what's up man. The beat to that was fire man. I could hear that in my in my car radio bumping crazy right now, brother. So if I can ask respectfully, who were the two people in the headstones? Was that your parents?

Speaker 3:

parents. No, that's my, it was. This is a crazy story. My, my, my grandmother and my close homeboy died the same year. Oh, okay for some reason, my grandma my grandma was buried right there.

Speaker 1:

Okay, sorry for your loss yeah, I, I appreciate it.

Speaker 3:

And then my homeboy was buried next to her. I didn't know that. My brother, we go to funerals these days. Let's go to my funerals to see my brother. I said, okay, let's do it. And I was like dude, my grandma was right next to him. We were like what? So it was crazy how that happened, but both of them right there. So it was an honor to deal because I missed both of them yes, yes.

Speaker 1:

So let me ask you this um, what rapper inspires you before being saved and what rapper are you listening to or inspires you after being saved? So before and after? Or who are you listening to before?

Speaker 3:

before. I would say, when I first started rapping, it was sebo-Ball, c-ball, c-ball was mine.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, ball hit nut. You know, back in my well, a few days they called me C-Bird, you know. So I was like C-Bird, c-bowl I was. You know I'm talking like. You know what I'm talking about, but Feel it. But when I got heavy in the rap game, I you see that style and the flow that I didn't let it rain in. It sounded like a DMX, but what happened was that respect the DMX. You know what I'm saying. Yes, he, I. I didn't even follow the man music, I followed his life. I know his man history. I knew him as a best friend and I all the stuff they say like I knew him as a best friend and I'm, and it's for y'all, it's all in the next series, all the stuff they say I knew him personally. I knew him. I feel like I know him.

Speaker 3:

And I wasn't like that, you know. So the Amics became like a real fan. I became a fan for him yes, and then became a fan for him to him, yes, and then. Then I started listening to 50s and then you know, love to pod, yes, so, but dmx was my guy and then, after being saved, I started following along with like bizzo uh, this was a hard one, man, man, this was was that dude brother. Yeah, and Brian T.

Speaker 1:

Brian T. I just did a recording yesterday, as a matter of fact, with a Christian hip-hop artist by the name of Corey Binks and we talked about Brian T. He actually went to a revival and met with Brian T and stuff like that, and it was ironic that at the same night last night, at the time of recording this video I was on a live stream where they're submitting songs you know I try to drop in these live streams that they're submitting christian hip-hop songs so I could network with some people, you know, see if I could get some people to come to the show or whatever. And I write poetry and uh, I, uh, you know, something in me told me. I was like you know what, let me reach out in the chat room and write up and see if they'll take poetry tonight and all I had was something I had recorded on my iphone.

Speaker 1:

All right, there's no production behind it or nothing. I wrote this, I recorded on my iphone and I shared it with a couple people at church. You know, everything's good, everything they like it, whatever. But this is what I had. What they're submitting to this place is is productive production, stuff like you, just like we just watched with you. So I'm like, uh, they probably ain't gonna take this. Dude said it was all right, I sent it, they loved it and come and find out, you know. The guy said you know, I'll do something with you and stuff like that. He's part of brian t's camp. And I'm like I was just talking about brian t with somebody I recorded with earlier in the day. He's part of brian t's camp and now you're bringing that. Now I'm taking this. As you know, something gonna happen here with brian t. We might have him on the show man. I'll bring you back back up to the show man. We have him on the show over here. Huh, what's?

Speaker 3:

up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but you're listening to Brian T Bizzle, who else you got in your um.

Speaker 3:

Well, I was in follow, follow behind that Before that. As my journey went, I was. I fell in love with the 116, you know the prey Tadashi Flame. Okay, uh, kb, you know, uh, so, uh, kb, you know, uh, so. Yes, when that, when the whole clique was coming together, I was like almost all their shows. They don't say like oh, okay, I was at the conferences. I just saw that in the parade like a short time. I've seen kb a few times, you know and um, uh, I didn't know anything about that group.

Speaker 3:

As a group, as as a band, as a squad, they collectively stood on standards. You know, yes, and my first time when I've been, you know, you know you would do secular music. It ain't about marriage, it ain't about you out there doing your own thing. What I seen for my first time was a bunch of men with rings on their fingers, bunch of men honoring their wives, I said, dang it, I don't want marriage.

Speaker 3:

I didn't get married until I was in my 40s. I didn't want no marriage because I was like I don't know how to do that. But when I started getting introduced to men who honored their wives, I didn't know how to do that. But when I started getting introduced to men who honor their wives as a rapper who honor their wives more on like it's different. Some rappers who honor their wives at home but in their music they glorify other women In their music.

Speaker 1:

They don't. They're living two lives, man. They're living a lie. You see what I'm saying and that's a sin all by itself. You know what I mean. Your, your words are lies, um, and you know these men like kb, I've seen him, I like a lot of his music, but I've seen him actually preach the word.

Speaker 1:

And man is anointed man when he talks. Brother, you know what I mean. And brian t, I mean talking about him, not to bring him back up, but yesterday on the show the guy talked about that brian t. We listen, we hear a lot of his music, but that when he's preaching, it's all about the preaching. His music is very small and his sermons compared to what he's giving out as far as the word, and what he's feeding the people around them and trying to, you know, lead people to christ. See, we see all the music because that's what he has out here and that's what we're seeing.

Speaker 1:

But you know, he's really like trying to bring people to the kingdom, man, and that's what's up, man, because you know, we're supposed to be different, right, it's supposed to be all about god and the morals and the values, man, that we stand so strong with man. You have to walk that path, man. We're so. Big ups to them, people, big ups to you, man. And so next question all right, so what are your go-to scriptures? Do you have any that just hold on to you? That's your scripture that you always go to. Yeah, I go to.

Speaker 3:

Luke, chapter 6. I go to Matthew 6 and 33. I go to you know it's honor your mother and your father. You know I have to learn. That's the first I go to. You know, honor your mother and your father. You know I have to learn. That's the first I have to learn Like, okay, I'm going to honor my dad.

Speaker 2:

That's my good heart.

Speaker 3:

No, but I have to say okay, you know you got to love him, even though he did me wrong. You know what I'm saying. Neglect him, you gotta, you gotta. And he's like I had to love him even though he did me wrong. You know what I'm saying. So it's like yes, so if, um? So it always reminded me of Matthew 6, 33. Luke said Luke, chapter 6 always reminded me of a character. You know what I'm saying. Like, don't let your left hand drive you to do it. It's better to give than receive. And another one sticks out to me Proverbs 14, 25. A true witness delivers souls, you know so. The more, like you said earlier, the more, when you come real, you tell your testimony. You know that delivers souls, more than you just try to fabricate to look cute. You know what I'm saying. Yes, to look cute. You know what I'm saying. Yes, tell your truth. You know what I'm saying. And that's what always sticks out to me. You know what I'm saying. I don't have many more, but I could go through. I could go through shifts.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yes, I mean, there's so many of them, one that I've always you brung up Proverbs, I like. I hold this one really close to my heart. It's Proverbs 3, 5, and 6. I have it right here in front of me. It's trusting the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, and all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight. And I think that just applies to everybody. Man, it gives me, it raises the hair on my arms. Man, it gives me, it raises the hair on my arms. Man, every time I hear that, because it's a whole, you know it encompasses so much. You know what I mean. Yeah, yes, sir. So what are you involved with as far as you're in your church or in your community? Are you doing anything actively right now?

Speaker 3:

Right now I'm involved in a church Foundation Church in New Hope, minnesota, pastor Jordan he. I just got involved into prison ministry, yeah, and then I'm, then, I'm, then I'm, eventually I'm supposed to be also in part of youth leadership.

Speaker 1:

Okay, nice, and I see you have your, your label or your logo behind you. What's all that about what we got going now sacrifice music, right, yeah, sacrifice music is hang up your cross and deny yourself.

Speaker 3:

You know that's my slogan. You know saying the Lord says do your cross and deny yourself. That's my slogan. You know what I'm saying the Lord to actions that do so. Clunkerfightermusicnet is my website. You can find all the information and, for the record, I'm writing music, I'm polishing the artists and I'm creating my own website. So there's some scratches and edges in there, but I don't get to all that. I get it too, man.

Speaker 1:

Hey, I'm trying to wing this whole podcast thing. Man Don't feel bad.

Speaker 1:

Hey, we're getting it around here we're going to make it happen, though, in Jesus name, man and for all of his links and everything. I just want to let the people know. For all his links and everything I just want to let the people know, for all of his links and everything. We're going to have it in the show notes so you know, after the show you guys could go down there and link up with the brother over here, man, and wherever he's found that. I'll have it in the show notes. But continue what you were saying, brother.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. So the sacrifice, music, the name came about as I pray about everything. So when the Noah came and sacrificed, I said what brought me to Christ? What sermon did I hear that saved my life? And then I'm down on the, the cross, that ultimate sacrifice. And then once you learn that, you learn you know he didn't just die for you. It's bigger than that. You know, yes, and when you start, when you build that relationship and you simmer that into your soul, you realize that this life is not your own. So you pick up the cross and you deny yourself daily because wherever it happens to a life, why me? But we always got to draw back and say we chose this life, to say, no, I'm with you. So sometimes we forget our assignment. We got to go back to our assignment and, yes, some bad things might happen to you. Yes, a loved one may pass away. And you say, why my loved one? Why my child, why my mother, why my situation, why my finances? But we're here to be used. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 2:

That's the only way you can tell me.

Speaker 3:

Everybody has a story. Everybody has a story, but you're here to tell me your story. Everybody has a story, but you here to tell me your story.

Speaker 1:

That's a gift we're supposed to be disciples of his word, good stewards of his word, and lead everybody to Christ. And what I think about for us to really submit right, we need to trust right. I think there's a big trust issue. I think some people are intimidated by change and you know the Lord's been giving me some stuff, man, because you know I want to share this at my church one time you know soon when, whenever I get a chance to speak up there again. There was one time I was up there and I had came up with.

Speaker 1:

If somebody's going to, if I ask you right now to borrow a thousand dollars, you might not let me borrow a thousand dollars because you met me online and you don't really know me. But if I was to ask my pastor to borrow a thousand dollars, he must like the hand handed right over because he knows who I am, he knows my character and he knows that I'm a man of my word. Right, there's that trust right there. The only way we can truly submit to God is if we trust right. And if I was gonna get a thousand dollars borrowed, right, the person has to trust me to give it to me, right, because he knows me right. So, and we. That's that's valuable right. Thousand dollars isn't, isn't no tongue change doesn't valuable. But how much more are we valuable we? We are working so much more money doesn't amount to what we're worth. So, in order for us to submit us to God, we need to know him in the only way, the only way we're going to truly know Jesus is in the word, because Jesus is the word. So this book right here, this book right here, this isn't about us, this is him, this is about him and this is how here. This isn't about us, this is him, this is about him and this is how we go to know him.

Speaker 1:

Man, and if we're not getting in this book and reading it and knowing and building relationship, the submission is always going to seem hard and the change is always going to seem hard. But when you're in there, it just happens by itself. It's not even no effort. You know what I mean. Because you give in, just because it's just it flows. And you know that was what I spoke to that day, because you know that's that's what God gave me in my heart, man, for me to give up. That's what God gave me in my heart, man for me to give up. But you know, I just hope that anybody that's listening to this podcast or video or wherever however you're getting this, you know that they get something from your words today, bro, or you know from whatever I said, and get in that word, man, because you know that Jesus is the only way you know what I mean. Amen.
