Hello and welcome to Daily English, as it’s the weekend, we learn English through stories.

Today’s story is about a woman who lost something incredibly precious—and refused to give up.  For years, she held out hope—and that hope finally paid off.

What Happened? In 2016, a woman in California named Nicole Grimes lost her beloved dog, Chloe. Her family had to give Chloe away when Nicole was a teenager. It broke her heart, but she never forgot her.Years passed. One day in 2023, Nicole was browsing a local animal shelter page online—and she saw a dog that looked exactly like Chloe. She adopted the dog, and after a vet visit and some old microchip data… she discovered the impossible: It was Chloe. The same dog—seven years later.

Nicole said she had always held out hope, even when it didn’t make sense. And somehow, that hope led her back to her childhood best friend.

Phrasal Verb of the Day: “Hold Out Hope”To hold out hope means to keep believing that something good will happen, even if it feels unlikely.

Have you ever held out hope for something that seemed impossible? What happened?
